The laser on the prototype can only cut through small non solid object but the boys down at Octavius labs are tweaking it for me.The crush strength of the claw is promising tho, it wont yet smash an energized teen with superhuman-spider like abilities but could easily damage a small child or pet. :)

Or much would they be for the entire set?

suicideking15
03-22-2004, 11:29 PM
its all resin with bits of plastic and epoxy. The light is actually a phased down LED that will plug right into the wall. Anyone interested in an entire set (that would include two arms and two legs) would probably run about $1000.00 (i know its a lot but they take so damn much time) i am making a smaller prop version for ebay that is about a two foot length mounted on a nice black laquered stand, it has a plaque stating it is from the labratory of DR Otto Octavius it will appear as tho our friendly neighborhood wallcrawler has torn it from Dock Ock and you ended up with the souvenier. That would probably be about $300.00

What are you thinking a about doing? I also just finished a clay sculpt of Hellboys right hand that i am casting in foam. I have been working on a replica glider from the first movie. That is a project let me tell you. but when finished you wont be able to tell the movie one from my replica. I was thinking of adding some more Batman accessories to my hall of heroes as well.

Incredible. May I also suggest the Infinity Gauntlet for your wall?

personally, I was wondering what sort of tasks it would be for you to create a Gunblade from Final Fantasy 8. Vash the tampede's Gun, Nicholas Wolfwood's cross, or if you've ever read Transmetropolitan, a Bowel Disruptor gun, or his sunglasses (a company made replicas of his sunglasses a few years ago, but they're impossible to find, ungodly expensive, and peices of crap in quality). I've always been very curious to find somebody who could just, you now, MAKE stuff for you. I'm not extremely rich, but I can certainly gther up the money necessary to pay you forsome of these.

suicideking15
03-24-2004, 03:46 PM
Im not familiar with final fantasy but if you sent me clear pictures i could definitely give you an idea of what it would take to make.

Elijya
03-24-2004, 07:43 PM
here're some pictures of some other replicas, and from the game. I wouldn't be looking for actual metal, probably some kind of plastic (but I don't know anything about making this stuff. if you have any ideas on how you could make it, and about how much it might run, with this or any of those items, I would be very interested). If you enter "gunblade" into google image search, you can find some other images. I like the third one down best in terms of proportions

suicideking15
03-25-2004, 09:27 AM
The "gunblade" doesnt look too difficult it would be made in cast resin (closely resembles white plastic) it would paint up just like the model on the bottom. Ill do a web search on the engraving. its likeness would be the most difficult. Is the handle made to accomadate something other than a human hand or is the sloped back look just for cosmetics?

WallCrawl
03-25-2004, 09:53 AM
It's meant for human hands. I think the handle is like that so it can be grabbed two handed and used as a sword, as well as having enough of an angle pull the trigger. Not sure, never played FF8 myself.

suicideking15
03-25-2004, 10:03 AM
The thing with casting a prop is this: if you are only making one that one is expensive but you can make as many copies as you want for what the first one cost to make (if that makes sense) one would probably be in the $150 range (that is a finished price) if we could find 2 or 3 people that are also interested we could get that down to $100-75 dollars depending on how finished a piece you want. If you are willing to paint sand and glue the cast pieces together it would be cheaper. I started a mold from an airsoft 357 magnum for the body and will sculpt the handle this week. the blade will be the easiest part except the engraved portion but I am confident we can pull it off.

Elijya
03-25-2004, 03:13 PM
you've already started it!?!?!? and it'll only run about $150?!?!? DEAR LORD IN HEAVEN THANK YOU!!!!!!! I was worred it would run like $1500

as for other people being interested, I'm fairly confident you could sell those on ebay for a couple hundred each if you keep the molds. There's tons of die-hard FF fans, and the japanese replicas are impossible to find and cost a few grand, so I'm certain fans would be willing to shell out for a much more cost-effective model.

as for payment, do you have a pay-pal account?

suicideking15
03-25-2004, 04:40 PM
You cant collect enough comic book crap to fill a room in your house without a paypal account. Is the etching on the blade a griffin?

here is the finished product ready for display/Ebay I need one for my hall of heroes so there will be more than one made. the laser ended up perfect. the display got finished today. The gunblade is progressing nicely. I had to order some more resin for the blade ( i used it all up making the second set of tentacles) I cast the 357 last night and will rework the trigger guard.

awesome collectoin suicideking. im just starting mine up but i dont know how to display them.

one question.. where did you get that display stand for your batman cowl? and how much is it? i've been looking for something like that but dont know where to get one. right now i have a makeshift one consisting of a foam ball stuck on top of a lamp . hahaha.. ghetto but it works.. let me know where i can get one of those display stands for the cowl.. thanks!

suicideking15
04-01-2004, 07:05 PM
I made the stand. It has a batarang on the front so it looks more complex than it is. A number of places sell what are sometimes refered to as a "wig head" it is basically a styrofoam head. I added a wooden black laquered base and some simple plumbing fixtures and it ends up looking real industrial and professional is the same thing you see the Magneto helmet sitting on.

email me your address i will send you one of the heads. the ones i have are for displaying military gear and are tan and the face has good features. Most of the heads i found look like marilyn manson without makeup and are stark white.

If you see one of these goblin heads on ebay it was probably made from my castings. I made this mask when the first teasers came out for spidey 1 and now everybody is making them and selling them and i know no one else is sculpting them from scratch
(but you cant collect like i do and be in it for the money, it has to be for a love of the characters and comic books)

that's very generous of you.. but im not sure if itll fit. I think the cowl i have is smaller than usual.. i cant even fit my head through it. Right now Im using a small foam ball that's definately not the size of a human head. It barely fits thru the opening. Im really more interested in how you made the stand for it but i think i have a pretty good idea now. Just need to find a base to screw on that piping. Then i'd just mount the foam ball on top.

I am not independently wealthy just "comfortable" I am always willing to help out another enthusiast. I hope your project turns out. My only other suggestion is not to use natural wood for the base, use the manufacturered pre-primered (usually white) wood found in the trim section of your local hardware store. It will paint alot smoother and not warp with time.

Hey Suicide King (that is a great movie btw), you do some great work! I built my own Jango Fett costume and it turned out really well, if I do say so myself. However, I just bought a fiberglass goblin helmet, and am looking to do the whole costume. But I can't seem to form sintra to the right shapes, regardless of how much bondo building I try to do. It looks like I'll have to go with vaccuformed styrene. Do you, or do you know of anyone who does this armor? I don't have the room for a vaccuform table. Also, what paint did you use, or was it a powder cast? The "soft" part of the costume looks to be a pain too. That's going to take a THICK needle on the ol' sewing machine!

PM me if you want to keep the info from prying eyes. Marvel tends to be jerks when it comes to copywrite infringement. Heck, they won't even let people make skins for the game "The Sims" anymore. Lucas used to be the same way with Star Wars stuff, but so many people keep doing it, he's started slacking off. :D

Oh yeah, my wife wants to know where you got the Cyclops visor.

Thanks for any info you can give.

Oh yeah, I noticed you're working on the gunblade. Will you be making the keychain-thing hanging from the grip too?

I actually have a full set of Goblin armor cast in resin that you might be interested in. I sculpted the raised pieces and cast them in a plastic like material that should now make perfect latex molds. i was considering casting them in polystyrene foam (like the hulk hands are made of) But if you had a vaccum form table that would be ideal. they would then be light weight and could be attached easily. The gunblade is under construction and i assume yes i will have to add the keychain attachment as well I sculpted and cast the visor it is a one off as i destroyed the mold when making it but could recast it if needed. I attached a picture of the goblin armor and some of the molds i used for the dock ock arm.

The gunblade will be finished in the next few weeks. yes you are welcome to one. I believe the finished version will be about $150.00 or so. (unless you want to finish a resin kit yourself) The overall length will be about 38" the body of the gun is a standard 357 magnum the blade is about a half inch at the thickest point and 1/4" at the tip.

suicideking15

The other tentacles i have not added any torn wires or a stand to at this time. I also added a more worn or yellow strip along the inner side of each arm. With each model I try to add small improvements to each one. I had toyed with making a long version (4-5 feet) but the cost was quite prohibative. The smaller models will have to work for now.

i think Vash's gun (the comic book style) would be a rather simple project in comparison to the gunblade. The TV style gun would be a much more complicated cast but either one could be done ( i hope)

Resin is a very hard plastic. It could be damaged if you were to strike something with it, but it is far from fragile, the most likely thing is you would scratch the finished paint.

the green is the engraving done in reverse so it will show up in the mold.

This blade turned out awesome. I used a little heavier resin so it actually feels like a weapon when you "wield" it. I hope to have 5 completed resin kits by this time next week. Then i put the molds away and paint one up all nice and pretty. :)

cool, you should make a smaller sort of super deformed version of the arms that have a tiny led light on the hands and not a big one. one thats not to pricey and easy for you to make.It also could be warable, a light werable version that is on a strap or somthen. Now theres an idea.

suicideking15
05-04-2004, 10:18 PM
here you go Elija. laying the case out for the gunblade. I havent yet fully assembled the gun (i may have to ship that way) but you get the idea. The top is still drying for the case but it has a sliding clear cover for the ammunition. I dont have any clear art to put on the case so it is just plain old black. i added some texture to the grips but still made them shiny like the pictures i have seen. I got a trade paperback today of Trigun and there is layouts for alot of different weapons I think would be fun to try. including a huge cross that houses a machine gun. But i digress...Enjoy!

Beautiful paint job.

about trigun, I was gonna ask you to take a look at some of that stuff next, but it seems you've jumped the gun on me. The Cross in question belongs to Nicholas D. Wolfwood. The long end splits to reveal a machine gun, the short end houses two rockets, and the arms slide out and reveal a rack of handguns

Also, really curious if you have any idea how the Infinity Gauntlet might be appomplished? Medieval gauntlets seem to clunky to use as the basis, thanos gauntlets seem so elegant in comparison. Was really curious if you had any thoughts

The catalog of drawings so far is about 14 pages for construction. This is the sketch for the basic shape

Are you just making the casing or will you also be casting all the weapons that are supposed to be housed inside?

the machine gun in the long part will be inside as will the rocket launcher, i planned on the left side of the cross having a sliding out drawer that houses some airsoft guns (automatics). The gun will sound like a machine gun but no projectiles of course. Have any of you been to a cosplay or anime convention? i was wondering if this would be admitted inside or not?

You can't be that big of a moron, can you?

I have no idea, but since it's illegal in certain areas to brandish toy guns in public that look real (most toys now have an orange cap at the end of the barrel or look toyish), I would assume not. It's not that big of a deal, the person who commisioned it could always empty it out for conventions and such.

undoubtedly. I have seen many pictures of cosplayers going as Nicholas carrying their homemade crosses, yours will undoubtedly be the most advanced and wellmade, though. But, yeah, cosplayers pretty much carry anything they want to cons. Swords, guns, everything

hey, does anyone know about the legality of me carrying the gunblade around in it's case? I'm not gonna carry it like everyday, but I was gonna take it to show it to a few friends when I got it. Is it illegal to carry? I mean, it is a plastic replica, I doubt I could really do more damage with it then, say, a baseball bat or a pool cue, which would be ok to carry, though suspiscious. I live in philadelphia, any law expoerts wanna check on taht for me?

:(

The punisher cross is going to be quite a project, but since it is a one-off it will be challenging, (that means you cant throw out your mistakes).

Some projects:

After some quick sketches (and alot of cursing) I find a likeable Riddler cane head.
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-9/391748/DSC00557.JPG

Print the paper out, glue it on some foamboard and follow the pattern. I already have a ball and the bottom grip portion from wood.
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-9/391748/DSC00559.JPG

Now the fun part! Sanding until your lungs bleed pink.

heres some gunblades ready for packaging to happy E-bay customers. (Can you believe ive sold 9 of these things so far?) before the project i had never heard of Final Fantasy (except the movie) and turns out everyone else on the planet had.

You're also gong to get some major mileage out of that Wolfwood Cross you're making. There's many anime fans who'd love to own that. Making more FF paraphernelia is another sure bet (Cloud's sword comes to mind).

Most know exactly what it is, or what its supposed to be I suppose. Alot of questions are whether the web picture that is actualy a digital creation not a prop is the same gun. There was another gunblade on ebay the same time as mine but was not as accurate IMO He was asking 400. That might have helped me too.

05-19-2004, 11:49 PM
well, what was his made out of?

have you definitely made a profit from this, SK? If so, I'm very happy to have helped

suicideking15
05-19-2004, 11:56 PM
his was made of wood and fiberglass (no lion on the blade either)
I liked the way he handled the handle but the body of the gun was wrong
and yes it has been a profitable venture

Original materials and molds: $185.00
9 kits (less materials) $865.00
Give or take a few bucks $780.00
Not bad for a months work LOL

and I guarentee you'll sell them all year long, too

Vash's gun, which we've also mentioned, is also completely unavailable in the states. the replica they made in japan was a WORKING replica, I've discovered, which blows me away, it is so cool. But I feel cofident you could sell a boatload of those, as well

suicideking15

Ill have a mold made for the top and probably use wood for the lower portion. if you are interested I can make one for you that you can get your own wood dowell part. It should paint up real nice. Some of the pieces that require glue are hard to paint because the paint wont stick to the glued portions but this will be a one piece cast. I will make you the same agreement i made with elijya for his gunblade. you pay for materials (approx $25.00)

Irongl. The money i make from selling props buys more material and tools is about it. My weekly box at my local comic book shop runs $850 a month. so its not exactly paying the bills if you know what i mean. I work full time for the man just like everyone else.

There are at least 4 different models I have seen on Ebay made from resin kits from both movies, and the comic version. There are no manufacturers that i am aware of except a bulky haloween version from the first movie that looks like a halloween costume.
Good luck

I never saw any prop webshooters from Spiderman the movie. His webs were organic and didnt require any mechanical device. I have the Factory-x pewter set and a couple i made myself that mimic the ones from the TV series and the comics. All non-working of course

The cross is laid out and most of the pieces are cut now it needs assembly. that will be the longest part Im sure.

other projects: Riddler cane: cast, waiting for paint

Vash gun: still assembling parts and molds, but it is looking good
