View Full Version : Marvel Information Websites
I think this may have been done before but I searched and didn't find it anywhere.
I use several websites a lot to get information about Marvel Comics. I thought I'd share them and so could other people if they have good ones that I didn't list. Check out the DC version of this thread here (http://www.superherohype.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=111073).

I will give credit when someone else suggests a site. It will only go into the index list if I feel it provides something new or is overall a good site. I'm simply doing this to make sure we have the best resources available and not a lot of sites saying the same thing.

Nope, I don't mind, the whole point of the thread was for people to contribute. Plus to help keep newbies from starting a thousand useless threads.
And no worries about others learning. I imagine that only comic fans come on here to look any way.
I'm going to edit the new links into my original post to keep all the information at the top.

Family problems caused Coley to run away from home when he was 13. He lived on the streets earning a living as a hustler, then artist model and exotic dancer. On a trip to the Caribbean, he was kidnapped by a voodoo cult who forced him to take part in a ritual which imbued him with sexual powers far beyond those of mortal men.

Try some links under the General Marvel heading and look for Shang Chi or Iron Fist. They're the two most well known Marvel martial artists. Elektra, Stick and the Hand are also people and groups you might want to look up.

I have to agree that this site is awesome.
I knew/have read a lot of the information within it but this is the first time I have seen it presented altogether in chronological order. I've read up through the middle ages and can't wait to read more but sadly I have to go do some work.

Yeah, same problem. I've read a bunch of this stuff before but having it all laid out chronologically is really helpful in making sense of it historically (as much sense as fictional history makes, anyway). I'm gonna start up a list of all the stuff I want to read based on this. I know I want to get my hands on the Thor annual with Atum/Demagorge the God Eater and I'm becoming increasingly interested in Otherworld and Captain Britain...

Now you know.
And knowing is half the battle.
The other half involves blowing up a lot of stuff.

blowing stuff up, but never anyone dying, and only once (in the movie) getting shot.
Does anyone else ever just pick a link out of this thread when they are bored and then read it for hours?
Recently I've read all of the

A Guide to Marvel's Pre-FF #1 Heroes
The Unofficial Chronology of the Marvel Universe

Sorry, I guess i didn't notice them. The Witches one will go up but not the Spider-Girl. Mostly what I'm putting in the thread is links to information websites that have either history, bios, or the like. The SPider-girl site doesn't seem to have much of that.

Not often, but I think you may have just found me something to do during work today. Provided my supervisor doesn't give me some crappy, time-consuming task to do like she did last Friday. I had to look up addresses all day while my Eastman & Laird TMNT collection languished on the counter. :(
Also, some of the websites listed (one for the Celestials, the Encyclopedia Olympiana, and one for Thanos that I saw) are actually just parts of the bigger Sersi's Loft site: http://www.geocities.com/brenni_au/index.html
I don't know if you want to reclass those or what. If not, this section is an excellent Sersi info site:

I did know they were parts of bigger sites. I more or less just enter them as people submit them. Sometimes I'll make a judgement call and leave them out. Eventually I'll probably go through and eliminate the ones that are part of the same site when I have time.
Put in some updates.
www.comics.org is a good site for cover scans and writer/artists information. They have 56,000+ cover scans. It also list some summary information for issues.

I scour the darkest corners of the internet in search of quality sites using my keen detective skills, honed from long hours as an undercover CIA operative.
Actually I often just use search engines. I just type "Thor Marvel" in Google (for example) and then look through the sites it gives me. I try all of the major search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN, Altavista, etc) because they often give different results.
Whenever I find a new page, I also always make sure to check if it has a "links" section. If it does I go through all of the links to check them. Almost all of the major comics websites have a links section.

Try working on the DC version. It's a lot harder to find good DC websites.
TheCorpulent1
07-14-2004, 12:30 PM
That's because fewer exist. DC websites mostly suck. :(
FlameHead
07-14-2004, 01:33 PM
DC mostly suck.
TheCorpulent1
07-16-2004, 01:34 PM
It's partly because DC power descriptions don't exist in the kind of detail that Marvel's do. If you look at Superman, it'll say he has super-strength. If you look at Aquaman, it'll say he's got super-strength, too. There's no range.
Martion Manhunter's almost as powerful as Superman, as is WW. M'onel is as powerful as Superman. Orion is as powerful as Superman is not a wee bit stronger. That's how DC usually does things. Then again, it does allow a bit more versatility, without people really having anything to pick on. "Aquaman's strength level is only class 50!" or whatever...
TheCorpulent1
07-16-2004, 02:03 PM
It also provides the leeway for DC to keep edging its characters' powers higher and higher, like they've been doing ever since the early '80s post-Crisis relaunches. Wonder Woman's much more badass now than she was then, Batman can beat God with prep time now, Superman's almost back to moving moons, etc.
Meh, whatever. Supermans one of the most powerful beings in the DCU (non cosmic of course) let him do insane things. God knows Thor and The Hulk have destroyed enough celestial bodies, done enough insane things. Everything's always going to be up down, with a little bit of consistency in between. I'm sick of trying to fight it I guess. :o
TheCorpulent1
07-16-2004, 02:18 PM
I don't have a problem with it, I'm just saying that that's part of the reason DC doesn't set power levels in stone. Marvel doesn't really do so either. If you look at the current Handbooks' power ratings, they have really huge ranges that makes it much more difficult to pin anyone at any level. A "4" in strength now means being able to press between 850 lbs. and 10 tons. :o
Personally, I don't really care. I like not having things absolutely set numerically. I don't need Marvel to determine that the Vision can project blasts of microwaves from his solar gem at 3000 degrees Fahrenheit. "The Vision can project focused beams of microwaves from the solar jewel on his forehead."
I agree with you completely.

It's been in the listing for a long time but I never really paid any attention to it.
But god damn is is a good website. The monster stories that came before FF #1 are short and fun. Plus they have the great art by Kriby a lot of times. I'm always surprised when I read his stuff as to how much I enjoy his art. Even though by today's standards it is far less detailed, I enjoy it just as much as anything on the shelves today. There are quite a few scans of Kirby's stories here (http://monsterblog.oneroom.org/collectors_corner/kirby_monsters_never_reprinted.html) if you've never read them. Fun stuff.

Just wondering, is there a Marvel website that show the character's power levels, or power ratings?
I know maybe 5 years ago, Marvel.com had just about every character listed with their power ratings.

Nope. Notice how the last post before your trifecta was from over a year ago, and the previous one was from almost a year before that? ;)
