Let me know if either would be interested in taking over my team. As you know, I'm not expecting to have time for season 3, but I've tried to keep a decent team together, including some top ubers like Paragon, Zoom, Firestorm (Fire elemental), and Dr. Strange (Man-Thing). Of course, they could make whatever changes they wanted after taking over, but I'm also happy to pass on any info about the charaters I've got. Sounds good.
Why do you of all people have to go? Hobbit, fah, I can deal with. But you? :(
Thanks, it's good to be appreciated.:) I'll try and at least stick around for voting and discussion.
Just to let people know, I'm pretty much 100% sure I'm dropping for season 3 once I find someone to take my team over. I put a lot of work into putting the team together, and I'd rather that work benefit somebody. (Although, of course whoever takes it over might well end up dropping most of them anyway, which is their perogative.) And since I'd prefer the team go to someone who'd use it well, I think I'll let people who come recommended (like X's friends) have first dibs.
So at any rate, as far as the count of returning owners is concerned, you should probably put me as "seeking replacement" or something. I'm hoping my team will still be around, albeit under new management.
Short reason for why I'm dropping out: Grad school takes up all my time during the week, and my girlfriend takes up most of my weekends (since she lives over an hour away right now and I can only see her on weekends.) I may end up rejoining for a later season if that stuff gets more manageable, though (either by my workload getting a bit lighter and my girlfriend getting a job closer to where I go to school, or by me flunking out of grad school and my girlfriend dumping me. Whichever. :D)

OK, just for fun, here's a little chance for everyone to brag. Quote for me your favorite thing that you wrote in a DTL writeup all season (whether it's how you had one character beat another, or a clever preptime concept, or even just a great one-liner.) It doesn't even have to be your favorite thing, just something you were proud of.
If you don't have your old writeups saved on your computer, remember that all the matches can be found in the update thread. Also, try to keep the quotes to no more than a short paragraph or two, please. No one wants to reread your whole writeup. :D

OK, here’s a couple of mine to get things rolling. Not necessarily my best stuff, but some of the stuff I remember liking from recent weeks.
First, the prologue (http://www.superherohype.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5785969&postcount=3) for my match against Hobbit, where I decided to temporarily suspend the no preptime precognition rule, to let Dr. Manhattan see that he was going to betray his teammates in the upcoming battle. (It was later revealed that he did so due to telepathic influence.) I thought the whole thing was pretty good, but here’s my attention grabber intro:
– Tomorrow –
Only now do I see the truth. All along I’ve been fighting the wrong battle. But it is strange that I should make such a mistake. After all, is not the knowledge of what is to come one of Dr. Manhattan’s greatest powers?
But at last all the lies that once blinded me have been made plain. Warlock and the rest have betrayed me. They are my true enemy. I despise them.
And now . . . I’m going to kill them all.
I also amused myself with this snippet from the All-Star Match:
Galactus has of course been aware of the ten intruders since the very moment they arrived on his ship. But much like the ants in my apartment, he simply doesn’t consider them enough of a threat to warrant his attention. Especially since I’d probably have to get off my ass and clean the place. But I digress.
You honestly had the best and most original write-ups, if you ask me, Tim.

So let me make sure I am getting this right, your team must consist of at least:
1 MR
1DR
1F
at the very minimum? Meaning if you wanted you could have a whole team of regs but not Ubers or Mediums. With a full team consisting of at least:
1MR
1DR
1MM
1DM
1F
1MU
1DU
With the rest of your team made up of whatever you want. The rest Uber as long as you have the above?
Also is Multiple Man allowed? I know he isn't a MU, maybe a MM but most likely a MR but he can create many many duplicates of himself so I don't know if he is allowed because of the 10 character limit?
Also Bloodstorm is an alternate version of Storm?
wiegeabo
06-20-2005, 02:51 PM
At maximum your starting lineup must have 1MU, 1DU, 1DR, 1MR, and a middleweight or third regular from either company. There is also a new rule that states if your middleweight is from one company, both of your regulars can be from the other company (i.e. if you have an MM, you can have two DR's). And at least one member of your starting lineup must be a female.
Your reserves can be of any weightclass or company you want. But the more you mix your reserves up, the more options you have for your lineup. And you must put at least 10 different characters in your lineup during the course of a season.
You're right about being able to downgrade positions in your lineup. So you could replace an uber with a middleweight or regular. Or, you could replace a middlewieght with a regular.
Multiple Man is an MR. I believe he and other regulars can create as many dupes as they possibly can as shown in the comics (which is 120 or so, with regards to Multiple Man). Ubers are only allowed to create one duplicate of themselves, middleweights have a slightly higher limit that I can't remember.

Now who taking pop shots while the other person ain't on line?
It was just one insult, not plural, and it was obviously payback. Call it poetic justice.
Excellent pic btw, Tropico. :)
XFanTim
06-20-2005, 03:34 PM
Simplified, but (I think) equivalent rules for starting lineups:
(1) Your starting lineup must consist of five characters.
(2) Your starting lineup must contain at least two characters from each company.
(3) Your starting lineup must contain at least one female character.
(4) Your starting lineup may not contain more than one uber from each company.
And that's it. All this business of downgradable ubers and two regs the same contingent on the medium being different is just confusing matters. What I've said amounts to the exact same requirements. Unless I've made some mistake . . . but you can try it for yourself. If you can't find a lineup that's legal under these rules and illegal under the way we were saying them, or vice versa, then we might as well say it this way.
wiegeabo
06-20-2005, 03:37 PM
Seems to be logically correct to me. Finally, a very simple and straightforward breakdown of the lineup rules.

The Leaguer

Only two ubers per starting line-up. You can have up to seven ubers in your reserves, as long as you always have what it takes to make a legal starting line-up.

Only your starting lineup each week has to follow the classification rules. Your starting lineup can be put together however you want as long as you maintain a legal starting lineup when you swap characters from the lineup with reserves.

So, if you know what his powers are, then they are pretty much useless? For instance, if a character on my team had info on him, and told his teammates about him and what he can do, then they'd be pretty much immune to his mental powers?
I saw that someone has Optimus Prime, isn't he TUBER?

Well optimus from what I've read about his Bio would be in the class 400,000 in terms of strength. Yes that is what I said 400,000 tons is what he can lift. But i've only seen one bio of him but if others can provide info on him I am more than happy to see it.

Hey, can anyone help me out with Indigo/Brainiac 8's powers? I looked through the comics myself, but I just want to be sure I'm not missing anything.
- flight
- super-strength/durability (takes Thunder's full-density kick and shrugs it off easily)
- auto-repair/regeneration (regrows her arm in a few seconds after Starfire blows it off)
- create offensive and defensive force fields
- energy blasts (from her eyes, hands, and the gun she forms out of her right hand)
- minor shapeshifting (turned her right arm into a gun and a giant, telescoping hand; changed her whole appearance)
- teleportation (she teleports away at the end of her fight with the Outsiders)

Okay, I know I'm new to the League so forgive me if this is a little incorrect. From what I know there are only 2 incarnations of a character allowed.
But I noticed that there are 3 GLs
Chaos Theory II (Owner: Harlekin)
Green Lantern (Raker Qarrigat) (DU)
The He-Naners (Owner: Roughneck)
Stan Lee’s Green Lantern (DU)
Chaos & Order (Owner: Wiegeabo)
Green Lantern (Kyle Rayner) (DU)
Now is this 3 incarnations or does Stan Lee's GL not count because it is associated with Marvel?
Also did I ever get a ruling on Grey Man?
The Leaguer
06-22-2005, 07:56 PM
In the case of the Green Lanterns, each individual person can have two incarnations. For example, there can be two versions of Kyle Rayner, or two versions of Hal Jordan.
And I think Grey Man is uber.

No, it is a max of two in the League, but a character is identified by their true identity, not by a codename. So Kyle Rayner would not technically be classified by "Green Lantern," he would be classified as "Kyle Rayner." Flash is not technically "Flash," he is "Wally West" or "Barry Allen."

The Leaguer

Exactly. It's the same person, but something basic is different. In that case, it's the cosmic power. Sometimes it's a different reality, sometimes it's differences in powers, sometimes it's a dramatic difference in personality.

You can trade for them.
Just to add to that, you can propose a trade for any character currently on someone else's team (by posting it in the Transactions thread), but it doesn't happen unless the other team posts their approval. For ownerless teams, it happens automatically.
Of course, it's always a good idea to discuss a trade with the person you're trading with (via private message) so you're not cluttering up the transactions threads with trades they're never going to accept.

You can also put a character you want to trade off of your team on the trading block. Just announce in the transactions thread you're willing to give up this character (you can also ask for a specific type of character like DU or MM or DR or whatever) and if anyone's interested, then they'll offer you a deal.

I have a question for anyone who has the Excalibur: Sword of Power mini-series. Does the Black Knight have the Ebony Blade in that mini? Because it distinctly looks like he does on a couple of the covers. I have #2-4 of the mini, and there's further evidence to back up the idea that it's the Ebony Blade: 1) it's black, whereas the Sword of Light is silvery white, 2) the Shield of Night is nowhere to be found and Dane's always used them as a package deal as far as I know, and 3) he sticks it in an energy field to destabilize it; granted, that could be the Sword of Light's ability to cut through mystical barriers as easily as it could be the Ebony Blade's ability to absorb energy, but coupled with the other evidence it seems to indicate it's the Ebony Blade. So my question is, does anyone who has the first issue of the mini-series know if there's a specific mention of the sword being the Ebony Blade?

Need a 'tuber or not tuber' ranking on a fellow I knew existed but hadn't found proof until now, which is the Super Skrull with the Power Cosmic.
The story is Doom somehow traps the Silver Surfer and sets up a machine to siphon off his Power Cosmic so Doom can put it into himself, but alas, Super Skrull is masquerading as his #1 Henchman and takes the power for himself. He puts the hammer to Dr. Doom and the Fantastic Four and not until the Invisible Woman redirects one of Super Skrulls cosmic blasts back into Silver Surfer are they able to revive the Surfer and have him take the drained Super Skrull out.
He seems to have the same powers as before, he can imitate the powers of the Fantastic Four, and I would presume he still has his basic Skrull powers(shapeshifting and hypnosis), and beyond that with the Power Cosmic he shoots out purply blasts from his hands.
Here are some comic examples 1 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/roc4u/SSkrull0.jpg) 2 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/roc4u/SSkrull1.jpg) 3 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/roc4u/SSkrull3.jpg) 4 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/roc4u/SSkrull2.jpg) 5 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/roc4u/SSkrull4.jpg)
So beyond the shooting the purple cosmic blasts out of his hands, what else does getting the Power Cosmic give him? I know that different heralds have different power sets, so I am confused.
Then also, is this version of the Super Skrull a legal uber? It would seem he would be even or below the Silver Surfer from what he did in the comic.

He didn't really do much in the series. In fact, I think Raab only added him so that Captain Britain could steal Strider and fly around. Allows you to manipulate the electromagnetic spectrum, basically.
Valiant character called Solar, Man of the Atom was a master of this, and his schtick was pretty much doing everything and anything. Because, well, almost everything is based on and around energy.
Seriously though, the power cosmic is a plot device. The most typical things it does are the cliched cosmic blasts and the like, but Norrin's done some crazy **** like infusing Shalla Bal with the power to create plants wherever she walked on their home world.

Thanks. So what are your thoughts on the Power Cosmic Super-Skrull?
No problem.
It boils down to the Super Skrull himself I guess. He didn't seem more compatent than usual (He only used The Thing's power) so, with the power cosmic, I say he just barely makes it into the DTL.
Lets look at it this way... His Fantastic Four powers are basically back up powers. His main schtick now is the power cosmic. The Human Torch? Well, I've seen the Surfer's blasts more than once described as throwing out more energy than some suns. Hell, The Kree said that about him once when he was weakened! The Thing... PC users can amp up their strength to just about any level... Stretching? Useful, at times, but kind of redundant with the power cosmic. And Sue's force field? I once saw Norrin make an invisible sphere around the normal Supre Skrull's head, and he began to tighten it, threatening to crush his skull. So, yeah, it's not an assumption to say he can do what Sue does, he actually has done what Sue can do.
Not saying the powers he has from the FF are useless. The flame of The Human Torch is pretty versatile, I never saw Norrin lasso a flame around someone. Maybe if someone attempted a power drain he could fall back on his original powers. He's pretty much The Silver Surfer without the speed or versatility, or raw durability I'd imagine, though that's nothing to be ashamed of. Super Skrull with the PC explicitly reminds me of Morg or Terrax, without the badass edged weapons. Hell, definitely let The Super Skrull with the PC in.
wiegeabo
06-27-2005, 05:56 PM
Not only would the Skrull have the power cosmic, but it stands to reason the FF powers he had would be cosmically amped up as well. Look what happened with Cosmic Storm. Now, SSkrul might not be able to see through illusions or the truth about things, but he could reasonably have the amped up forcefield abilities Johnny had. Along with amped up Thing durability/strength, amped up flame, and let us not forget...Cosmic Stretching!

Seriuosly though, in chat X made the point that his FF powers would become redundant and marginalized next to the cosmic power feats he could now do, so in that case if SS and the other heralds are allowed, I can't imagine Cosmic Skrullie wouldn't be also.
For me though, I would not forego his FF and shapeshifting powers for pure Power Cosmic feats just because this is the Skrull we are talking about, and a Skrull that JUST got the power. Just like what he established in the pages of the comic, he would probably just blast people with some cosmic blasts but still utilize his traditional powers too, though amped up to a degree(which should be fine, don't think anybody considered him a high uber anyways).
The only feat I would utilize beyond that would be Cosmic awareness, which I would imagine he would feel, but would need time to understand fully, so over time it would be come a useful tool. Beyond that I really don't think he would be able to manipulate the Cosmic Power to the level of a seasoned herald, so no transmutations or the like.

Is energy manipulation really a given with the Power Cosmic? Firelord seemed to just have his one schtick of manipulating that fire-like energy he used. Johnny didn't appear to have any sort of energy powers. I think Terrax relied mostly on his earth control powers and used only rudimentary energy powers.
Basically, I think Super-Skrull with the Power Cosmic should be taken at face value, since the Power Cosmic has been shown to have different effects on different people. Same powers as before, maybe amp him up to class 100 strength instead of Thing's class 85, and give him the energy blasts. That seems more reasonable than just making him a Silver Surfer clone and saying he keeps his FF powers in his back pocket "just in case."

This is all true. Morg and Terrax are raw powers types, and regardless of whether they can transmute things or not, they never worked on it at all. So, it's a no no for the league.
Super Skrull with the PC is basically like Morg or Terrax. With the amped up Thing's strength he's in the same vein as Terrax or Morg. Terrax has physically dominated Thing, just to let that be known. And, Cosmic Super Skrull already showed he had very powerful raw power blasts, and the like. So, yeah. Basically he's a herald, Morg style.
You know, there was another Skrull guy, had some pretty serious super strength and a nice, extremely tough axe. He was cutting The Professor Hulk with it. Give your cosmic Super Skrull one, Prime.

I never said I wanted him to be a Silver Surfer clone with Super Skrull benefits, don't know where you got that from.
Obviuosly getting the Power Cosmic comes with some basics, and the only one I was shooting for beyond shooting generic cosmic blasts was the whole Cosmic Awareness thing, detecting energy and the like. Maybe somebody can clarify what Cosmic Awareness actually entails.
Also, Super Skrull's strength from the get-go was 100 tons, and later he was augmented to higher levels.

You were using Norin as an example a lot, "Surfer did this, Surfer did that, stands to reason Skrull could do that too"

Talos the Untamed? I didn't even check the link... No Shapeshifting, but near-Hulk strength.

You were talking about SS's blasts and Sue-powers, yeah, that's exactly what it was.

Yeah, if what X holds true, a weapon that can actually 'cut' a hulk.
This is a pretty powerful Skrull too, the Skrull Assassin (http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/skrullassassin.htm) Gladiator level strength and durability sound good, turning into a dinorsaur is kind of cheesy though :)

Hrm, color me confused. So by mentioning Silver Surfer's blasts(which I never specifocally mentioned) and Sue Storms powers(which Super Skrull innately has) that equates to me saying I want a clone of Silver Surfer with all of the added Super Skrull powers?

Wow, I hope that was sarcasm.
Drop: Super Skrull (MU)
Pick Up: Super Skrull w/ the Power Cosmic (MU)
Yeah, I was messing with you. :D
And wrong thread. :p

Just a heads up. I think it may be obvious but I am actually Roughneck. The DTL participant. Just letting you know that I am still coming back with the He-Naners despite my absence.
I'll be around.

I got banned for something very very minor. But I am back and that is all that matters.

Lets just say I was banned for saying something about a certain part of my body being rubbed on a certain part of a certain Ford product.
That should be clean enough.
Oh and then I cam back with another Identity and it was banned and Roughneck was forever Banned.

Anyway due to the initial ban being so weak I was rewarded with my original Name back.. So forget all that other stuff I said. It will be Roughneck (the original) helming the Naners in season three.

anything heard from Jason CC yet?is he changing his team or can we stiffle it?

Huh, well, I guess the ban is why I couldn't PM you. :D
Anyway, good to hear you're still going to be around. You have a roster spot to fill; you lost Dr. Midas due to the lowering of the Uber bar.
And, as for Jason, I PMed him a few weeks back about the DTL, and he said he was still in. He came in, posted a small post, and that was it though. So, if he doesn't show up and start participating more regularly by this weekend, I'll mark his team as ownerless.
As it stands right now, we have 20 teams. If Jason goes, and with Tim leaving, we'll be at 18. Now, if we can get the number back up to 20 teams, who'll participate consistently, then that'll be perfect for Season 3.
You said you had two people who were interested, X, correct? Well, you should be lighting a fire under their asses to get them moving.

Hate to see this thing bloat back up to 24 teams then have the 1/3 of inactive teams like last season :(

Nuh-uh. Check again how many teams are SURE that they'll stay. I'll drop out to take it back to 16. A bigger DTL is NOT a better DTL, IMO!

06-28-2005, 01:28 PM
yeah cant we stick with 18?so long as its an even number we should be good to go now then yes?
wiegeabo
06-28-2005, 01:45 PM
The number has to be divisible by four because we have four divisions, otherwise divisions will have different numbers of teams.
I don't have a problem with going to 20, or even back to 24. It's a lot of reading, but with the new participation rule, there shouldn't be all that dropping out and teams that do nothing.
Nightwing.

I really think the DTL would benefit by sticking to 16 or maybe, if we have a crop of really, really dedicated people, 20 teams. If I've gotta go to make room for someone who'll devote more time to the DTL than I will, I'll do it.

The three, well, two of the three people I've been talking two are dedicated beyond belief. Both have huge post counts at other comic boards, and are, well, the cream of the crop of comic fans.

Dedicated to comics does not equal dedication to the DTL.
True. But they're also reliable regardless.
