View Full Version : DC Information Websites

DBM

I created a thread like this in the Marvel Comics Forum and people seem to react well to it. So on a suggestion I'm creating a DC one also.

Basically this will be a list of good websites about DC comic characters. I need help from others to make it though because I'm not that big on DC Comics.

I'm going to edit the new links into my original post to keep all the information at the top. Check out the Marvel version of this thread (here (http://www.superherohype.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=108478)) to see what it is like.

Just a question..

That atlas has Metropolis in Delaware...is that really the location? I know in Smallville the TV series, it is part of Kansas....and I suppose I just assumed it was part of a bigger state when reading the comics...

Supergirl
05-13-2004, 08:42 PM
Smallville isnt continuity, no it should be a big city in a state that doesn't actually have a big city same with Gotham

DBM
05-17-2004, 11:40 AM
Smallville doesn't match up with the comics.

Metropolis, and Gotham, have never had their state identified in the comics explicitly in continuity. The Atlas gives approximations of their location based on references and inferences. It is firmly established that both are on the east coast of the US and and more than likely in the Northeast on the coast due to their ports.

Some updates have been added to the Index Post.

So what do you want? Us to tell you who to pick?

Take some time to actually look through the sites in this thread and you'll find all you need.

I'll PM you a list of DC characters. You won't know their abilities but at least you'll have some names to look up.

And I'm only doing this to get the League going. Not to help you.

And try to only post things that are on topic in this thread please.

http://dcu.smartmemes.com/

Found that site while I was looking around for stuff on the DC version of the war between the Titans and the Olympians, of all things. Anyway, it's pretty much a perfect counterpart to the unofficial Marvel chronology site (linked to, I believe, in DBM's Marvel Info Websites thread) and has good entries. I'm not a huge DC buff, so I don't know if it's totally accurate, but what I saw seemed to correspond to a lot of the post-Crisis history bits I do know (stuff like the dates of the Amazons' creation, since I just read Perez's Wonder Woman post-Crisis relaunch). Also, it's got a wicked-cool section on DC characters' birthdays that actually differentiates between characters whose dates of birth are set in stone (Alan Scott, Dr. Occult, most of the rest of the JSA) and characters who are presently on a "sliding" timeline (Nightwing, Superman, Batman, most of the later Silver Age DC characters). It's great.

Cool. Also, you may want to put up a link directly to the official DC forums. Click on any character's board and you're pretty likely to find someone who's asking questions similar to the ones you have, and multiple posts that'll usually help confirm certain details.

The two best are probably

http://www.dcuguide.com/

But even those aren't nearly as good as the Marvel Directory. Your best bet for DC characters is to look for an individual site about the character.

Tom Morrow's Who's Who has a good number of characters, too.

The problem with DC sites is that there's no single site to find all your characters. Marvel's got http://marvelbook.topcities.com even though they're under renovation at the moment. You can find practically anyone there. For DC, a combination of the two sites DBM posted and the one I posted has worked nicely for me.

This is the question thread, for stuff like this.

And now I'll go ahead and answer your question. There's no easy way to tell really. You could go to www.comicspriceguide.com and look up the comic, which would probably be the easiest way. They stay pretty up-to-date and would list that information.
