just ditched the trench coat all together). Couple that with the fact he
was selling personal merchandise (Man-Faye T-shirts) on Con grounds
without a permit. AX immediately had a meeting with Man-Faye, which
included Mr. Ono (Because all things Cosplay fell under his
jurisdiction) and some of the Board Members.

During the Meeting, Man-Faye produced a very solid defense. He was very
well versed in what he was talking about. One key factor remained. He
made a verbal agreement to wear the trench coat to AX staff, and when he
broke that rule he forfeit his right to wear the badge. And so after two
hours of deliberation, Anime Expo revoked Man-Faye's membership.

Now, this meant Man-Faye was no longer the responsibility of Anime Expo,
and therefore he was free to congregate in public areas outside of Con
jurisdiction. However, once he stepped into the Anaheim Convention
Center, he was theirs to deal with as they saw fit. (How they did, I
don't know. I heard the APD [Anaheim Police Department] was called.)

On the Monday Morning, somehow AGAIN walked into the ACC, even though
they told him before to not step foot inside.

The last I remember, Man-Faye was still walking around though.

sorry, CGHS, gotta disagree with ya. Most cosplayers MAKE their own costumes, which is time consuming and impressive, even if they happen to look embarassing. I remember I saw a Thor at a con once, and the guy had forged the Hammer himself. I held it and it must have weighed close to 50 pounds.

To me (who could not be less interested)....3 things make a good cosplayer
1) Appearance: there was a Wolverine a page or so back who illustrated this. I myself, were I to dress up as Cyclops, would be another great example. Looking the part is key. To many fat guys dress up as Batman, Superman, the Flash and X-Men. I cannot take that seriously. You have to look the part. Don't pick the 140lbs, 6 foot 4 guy to be Batman, its a disaster waiting to happen. You might say "hey great costume", but you're thinking about "when Batman decided to stop eating". Not Good. Also examine your face structure. If you have a face like Eliyja you're perfect for several heroes including Nightcrawler, Flash, Spider-Man (possibly) just to name a few. If you are square jawed and tall like myself Cyclops, Superman and DareDevil might be your route
2) The Costume: Yeah its important, D'uh. The trick (from the ones I see at conventions) is the good ones look like the originals without looking cheesy. They may add elements of realism to detract from an otherwise cheesey looking costume. Some great TF costumes I saw added "mechanical" attachments to enhance the robotic look and made for a better costume
3) Character: Whether you believe it or not it is important. If you slouch, look sullen, or uncontrollably giggle perhaps you should do something about that. No one will buy a Nightwing who looks like he just took a large dose of Joker's laughing gas. The costume heroes at Universial, the best ones (like Spidey), did well because they acted the part. Sure they were all bodybuilders, so they looked like their hero. But the Captain America guy, for his size, fraternized with more teenage girls than R kelly. Not great. Spider-Man was so great as he spent his entire time talking to the kids, reminising old Doc Ock fights and generally being a nice guy.

Since the term "cosplay" is of Japanese origin, and they used it to refer to dressing up as Japanese manga/anime/game characters, would you actually refer to someone who dresses up as Batman to be a "cosplayer" since Batman isn't a Japanese character? :confused:
