I've redone my list of Fan Films..

--------------------------------------------------------------

Archangel

Download: http://www.collorastudios.com/projects/archangel/media/archangel_med.mov
Rating: 5/10 (Beautiful Cinematography)

Not actually a fan film, but still a film by a fan film director.. so I thought I'd put it here..

Review: Before he made "Batman: Dead End", director Sandy Collora made a pretty odd film called "Archangel". I'm not too sure what the story is, or even what is going on... But, there are 2 scenes in this movie that are just Awesome! One is a kid's eye zoomed in turning from red to black and the other is a man standing in the rain, and it's a dark blue all around him, and then he opens his wings and looks up into the sky - Makes me think of Shawshank Redemption when Andy looks up after he escapes. Bondage and Nudity are present in this film so take warning and make sure you get permission and all that good stuff. Enjoy the film, if nothing other then those 2 scenes above.

................................

Reaction

Review: Reaction was made in 2002 by Nick Kougioulis and is a fan film focusing on Bruce Banner's first transformation into the Hulk.

The movie starts off as Bruce's reaction with gamma radiation, which causes his transformation into the Hulk, in a military facility in Utah. Bruce leaves the building, alarms sound, and he aims to leave the base. Boiling on his last nerve, Banner tosses aside the gate guard and drives off. He soon gets stopped by some military personnel which is where the Hulk is unleashed. Reaction has good CGI (Done by Nick K) for a fan film, and accomplishes what it sets out to do. Released a year before the Hollywood version, it's a good taste of the Hulk on film.

When "Batman: Dead End" was first shown at Comic-Con 2003, and the reviews started coming in online... many fans, including myself, had to see this film. Was it worth the wait, in fact - it far exceeded my expectations and also had some surprise cameos. Sandy Collora can make a great film, with some excellent action scenes making it one of the best fan films I've seen to date.

.........................

Green Arrow

Site: http://greenarrowfanfilm.com/
Trailer Download: http://greenarrowfanfilm.com/GATrailerMedium.mov
Rating: 8/10

I'm not sure when this Green Arrow fan film is due out, but it does look very good. Many shots look very good, and is shaping out to be a great film. One complaint by some fans is that Green Arrow is killing people and has a sword, not sure what's going on there - but it does make for some nice scenes.

............................

Batman: Dark Justice

Site: www.BatintheSun.com
Download: Contact Me and I'll try and get the video to you
Rating: 7/10
Size: 16.5 mb

With a good Batman suit, and a story behind the fighting... "Batman: Dark Justice" is a great film made by Aaron Shoenke - who also directed "Batman Beyond: Year One" (Which I have yet to see, but have heard good things about). Batman and Commisioner Gordon team up to get Barbara back from evil-doers, and it turns out pretty good in the end. Behind "Dead End" in my opinion, but above most others... Dark Justice is a must see for all Bat fans.

Review: GGLS was made in 1992 by Dan Poole and is over 50 minutes in length, making it the longest fan film I've seen so far. The story follows Peter Parker - Spider-Man, and Norman Osborn - Green Goblin who attacks him for revenge of putting him in an institute from a previous fight. Made with only $500, GGLS has some great Spidey swinging effects and webbing around but a mediocre Goblin costume to me. The Spidey suit is not bad and Dan's acting as the lead in Parker is quite good. He directed, wrote, and edited the movie making it one of the first great fan films. It's worth checking out, just because it is a classic and almost started the fan film craze. It's not too bad of a story either, and the ending scene is even borrowed in the Hollywood version directed by Sam Raimi. My favorite scenes were the beginning of Spidey chasing down robbers escaping in a car, and the final battle with Goblin. There is also an "Extras" clip which features the highlights of the film and some stuff that didn't make it - Such as Mysterio and Bullseye sequences. Look at the Extras video first and if you like it, then you'll probably like the movie as well.

Death of Batman

Site: http://www.thedeathofbatman.com/
Download: http://www.thedeathofbatman.com/media/pointer/death_batman_56.mov
Rating: 5/10

When the movie first came out, the director posted on a message board I visit and was nice enough to send me a copy of the DVD.

It was an OK film that had lots of potential, that wasn't fully reached in my opinion. The Bat suit looks good, but it's definitely not your typical Batman fan film involving action and mainly composed of dialogue.

An Interesting idea, but I wish they did more with it.

........................

The Ratrix

It's a Matrix parody with Rats.

The scene that "The Ratrix" is based on is the office one from the Matrix where Neo is trying to escape the agents (Who are Mouse Traps in this case) and Morpheus is on the phone helping him. There is also a funny twist at the ending that I don't think Neo had to deal with.

Rating: 8/10

...........................

Super Precinct

It's about Superheroes working in a police station.. and has some funny moments in it such as the Flash as a speed trap, and Superman riding a bike, along with many others. Super Precinct is a funny fan film with Superheroes, what else could you want.

Budget: $200
Filming Time: 3 Days
Rating: 8/10

The CGI at the beginning of the film is excellent (esp. for a fan film) and the lightsaber duel is good as well. There isn't really a story, other then there is a Jedi and a Sith in the same spot at the same time, and they fight - which isn't a bad thing. If you want to see a fan film with action, and some great effects... Proof of Chaos is one you need to download.

.....................

Batman: Year One

Site: http://www.mourning-after.net/yearone/
Trailer Download: http://www.mourning-after.net/yearone/release.html
Rating (of Trailer): 7/10

Although seeming like a short film rather then a trailer, it does have good footage and follows Batman and Robin as they fight against Joker, Catwoman, and Clayface. Bruce Wayne's family is murdered at the beginning and Dick Grayson's family later on during their trapeze act - bringing them together to form the Gotham City crime-fighting duo.

There is some CGI involved.. which looked pretty good for a Fan Film.. not near Proof of Chaos, but not bad.. whenever a fan film uses CGI it impresses me to a degree..

I think a different trailer would've been better. but it does it's purpose, and makes me want to see the full movie to see how the scenes flow and how the movie goes..

Focusing on the origin story, Batman: Year One doesn't currently have a release date, but I'll post the link when it comes out.

First Round

Review: 5/10
Download: www.CoreySosner.com

First Round was recently released, so I had a look at it. The film follows Punisher who kills a lot of people of the mob, and then has a go at Wolverine. The movie has its moments of bloods shots and death scenes, and Wolverine doesn't look all too bad having the facial hair anyways. The film is mainly the Punisher just walking around killing people for no real reason, due to the lack of a storyline partly. It's worth checking out if just for the Punisher - Wolverine fight at the end.

Well Ive seen all of them except Green Arrow and I have to say that Dead End is the best, although green goblin was pretty good effects wise for 1992. I thought Dead End was the only one with decent acting. All the other ones were super exagerated and just really bad.

Wow! I have to say my all time fave is Green Goblin's Last Stand. Batman: Dead End comes in very close as 2nd.

Is there anymore Spider-Man fan films besides this one?

Superman

The "Grayson" fan film (http://www.untamedcinema.com/) looks real good.

Plus Bat In The Sun's "Batman: Madness" looks like it might be good.

Then there is the "Nightwing: A Knight in Bludhaven" fan film. (http://www.twomanmovies.com/) That looks like it might be good too.

The best IMO so far has been "Batman: Dead End" but I think Grayson is going to beat it.:)

My top would be Batman: Dead End then
Grayson following a very close second.

The rest I have mixed thoughts about.
Not saying that they aren't good...a lot of them are very good. I just don't know where I'd rank them just yet.

My incredibly biased opinion is that Green Goblin's Last Stand is the best fan film. I challenge anyone to do that with only $400 and your own insanity.

i just watched Batman: Year One and i thought it looked pretty bad.

there were some really good parts. the whole beginning with showing the deaths and the bat busting through the window was good. Also the closeup of the eye of young bruce that faded with the eye of older bruce was good.

everything else was horrid. whoever plays robin is a horrible actor. everything takes place during the day. the fighting looks so fake and joker is horrible looking. plus the cgi of clayface was an utter waste of time.

but this is just the trailer. so maybe they could work some of this out.

To add even more to it he made this film prior to huge upgrading of camcorders that we have now.

I think Batman: Dead End is really silly. I appreciate the work gone into replicating the Aliens and Predators, but... why are they in a Batman movie??? Batman should be gritty and about the streets, not about freakin' aliens. Either do an AvP movie, or do a proper Batman movie.

Greyson and World's Finest are definitely the best I've seen. The Green Arrow one is also quite good. (No, I don't know why he has a sword either, but it looks cool ;)

I was at a convention this weekend and picked up a couple of DVds of fan films. Here's my take on some of them.

"Grayson" - Fantastic. If I was a big time movie producer, I would give this guy 50 - 60 million dollars and you would have one of the best comic based movies ever. For the low budget, only working on weekends, and no name actors....this is one of the coolest things I've seen. The film (made to look like a movie trailer) manages to tell a whole story in a few minutes...and show decent representations of the characters; Robin, Superman, Joker, Riddler, Wonder Woman, Catwoman, Batgirl, and Green Lantern.

"Batman Dead End" - Great. The "non rubber" cloth material Batsuit looked real good. Clark Bartram made a good Batman....and the Alien and Predator suits were very well done.

"World's Finest" - Fantastic. These guys too worked miracles with a limited budget. The actor playing Superman looks like he stepped out of some comic like "Superman: A man for all Seasons"....the effect of him lifting a tank was very convincing. It also has Batman, Lex Luthor, and Two-Face. It's another "trailer" film that manages to pack a lot into a short time.

"Batman Beyond:Year one" - I found parts too shrill...others too boring. just didn't get into it.

"The Death Of Batman" - I wouldn't call this a "Fan Film"....I'd call it a "I hate Batman Film". Batman is captured by a petty crook (who uses a stun gun on Bat's testicles)....who chains him up, hooks him on heroin, and over a month gives him daily beatings while analy rapeing him. Yep...this was made by a "fan". Avoid this at all costs.

"Star Wars:Contract of Evil" - great. Darth Maul proves he is worthy to be Darth Sidious' apprentice by taking on two Sith wantabes who have been defeating others who want to advance up the ladder to be a Sith Lord. Very good martial arts lightsaber action....very good makeup (all the characters are of Maul's race, but with different tatoos and horns) and the actor who plays Maul, strips off his shirt to show the full from the waistup body art they did on him.

"Star Wars: Duality" - neat. Two Sith wantabees fight to the death under the watchful eye of Darth Sidious in an arena. Good martial arts fight, lightsaber effects, and spaceship effects.

I picked up the "Luthor for President" DVD...but haven't had time to watch it yet.

Superman: Luthor for President

While not the best fan film you'll see....you have to give them a thumbs up for the fact that they made it feature length (around 85 minutes) instead of the 10 to 15 minute length of most.

Picture is a little grainy, not the best sound quality, and acting/casting that runs from fair to bad.

Opens with a montage of shots of Lex steadily getting more angry at people's love of Superman. He is very obviously jealous of his fame...and when he sees a quote from Superman saying that he will always be there to do the bidding of the President of the United States...Lex hatches a plan. While running for Prez...he hires "Bane" to steal a Kryptonite meteorite, that he makes into a ring. Batman calls up Superman and expresses his unease at Lex running for office. Lex wins. Batman shows up and tries to pressure Lex into giving up the ring (it doesn't work). Batman then meets with Lois and convinces her to help him break into the White House to get the ring. Superman shows up and tries to stop them (because they are breaking the law)....and in the insuing confusion....the ring is switched and Batman gets away. There are a couple more little items that I will save for people to see on their own.

Lex Luthor (Jason Bailey) a little pudgy, not a great actor, tends to overdo the facial expressions.

Superman (Michael Walters) is good as Clark....but doesn't fit the bill as Superman. He's a guy of average build...doesn't look like a superhero.

Lois (Cerris Morgan Moyer) proper makeup would have helped her look a lot....but then you would still have had her bad acting.

Batman (Alan Booth) Ok actor...but too skinny for Bats, and the Batman suit was very bad (Cowl too big, eyeholes too large and sunglass lenses in the eyeholes, a utility belt the size of Rhode Island, surprised he could move with that thing on).

Mercy (Keely Rusk) decent actress, nice looking (she should have played Lois).

Bane (Enrique Arce) Was Bane a Hispanic in the comics...because he definately is here.

Final redeeming quality:
If you watch it all the way through the end credits....it has a title card that says "Dedicated to the real man of Steel...Christopher Reeve"....then shows a picture of Michael Walters (Superman) with Chris....and asks you to donate to the Christopher Reeve Foundation and gives a number and address to do so.

ocd productions

yes, bane has always been hispanic (in the comics and the animated series at least). i believe that he was not hispanic in the batman and robin movie. we wanted to be more accurate and true to the character with our rendition which is why he was hispanic in our film.

ocd productions
11-02-2006, 05:02 PM
the performances in our film are very impressive. most other fan films are shorts and trailers which allow for very limited performances to even be judged.
