OK what does everyone really think? When I first heard the idea I kind of liked it. After all if Ben can turn into rock then why not Vic into metal. But what I don't understand is where the bolts come from. And what's with the hooves?

They should have just kept it simple

Hooves=evil. As for the bolts...who knows? I suppose you could ask Warren Ellis.

Bolts?

LordChaos
07-07-2004, 05:04 PM
well those could have been actual feet and they just looked like hooves. I do like the new look though, it makes him way more evil looking.

ThorneFox

I think the were hooves, if you look at the way he's standing and at the shape of his legs, they are designed for hooves.

i don't like it. Ellis has yet to impress me.

I think it's a good call. I mean if the heroes all turned into natural things (air,water,rock and fire) why can't the villain turn into an artificial thing like metal?

ThorneFox
07-08-2004, 08:21 PM
but isn't metal natural too?

bizarro#1
07-09-2004, 04:39 PM
I don't think so Thornefox. 'cause metal is forged or created through a process while rock and water is found everywhere...

Any way I think Ultimate Doom is a good idea. :)

Ain't the Earth's core supposedly solid metal?

I finally saw the pic of U DD, it looked really cool. I like the hooves.

Actually, if you think about it, it makes perfect sense for Doom to be made of metal, or at least to the same extent as the others.

In some form, all of the elements, and the two lesser accepted elements are represented.

Reed = Water
Sue = Air
Johnny = Fire
Ben = Rock

Doom = Metal
Man-Thing (Presumably) = Plants

I was quite impressed with the art work on U FF the face was stunning. i, like many of you seem to be a bit unsure about the effect of the hooves. i think i gonna have to see more of it and the whole of doom before i can make up my mind. :)

So is Doom made of metal? I was slightly confused when I saw him unwrapping the tape from his hands and all of a sudden they're metal...did his skin become metal? I kind of like it, but then again I always liked the horribly scarred guy that wore a mask.

Not too sure about the hooves though, now he's going to look like some supercharged metallic faun (half man half goat).

Oniwago 18

Yeah, I liked the idea of him being human, but scarred beyond recognition, but I also like Ultimate Doom (sounds like a video game). He just looks awesome. I like those hooves.

Are there any pictures online of Doom with the hooves?

I dont think hes made of metal, I think he was just burnt and scared really badly and some of his bone and flesh in his hands were destroyed so he replaced them with metal.

Flameswordsman
07-21-2004, 04:59 AM
He replaced all his damaged or competel bunt off skin wih metal

Ellis is yet to impress me at all with Ultimate Doom. Metal skin instead of a suit is OK, he may not have much room for any Dr. Doom style weapons [gravity distrorters and the like]. I didnt like the look of his face when it was shown at the end of #6, his face looked rough and jagged wth all he sharp metal

Hooves on Dr Doom= Ridiculous. The Ultimate verse is all about change, turning one of Marvels best villains into a half man, half horse hybrid is stupid

I dont get the name either,to me, Dr. Doom never seemed like a ridiculous name because his name really was Von Doom. I dont know why he's called Von Damme [shout out to Jean Claud?], but the name sounds cheesy now, like he feels the need to big himself up by calling himself 'Doom'

Webber
07-22-2004, 09:35 PM
Are you sure the expirement didn't turn his skin into metal?

Flameswordsman
07-24-2004, 11:58 AM
I havnt read it yet, but presumable he lost his legs in the teleportation accident aswell, i dont think he would have replaced well working human legs with horse legs if they hadnt been damaged

Only one of his hands needed to be covered in metal, and he had little bits of flech over his mask, so yes, i am sure his body wasnt transmuted into metal [interesting idea though]

Oniwago 18
07-25-2004, 02:08 AM
It was difficult to tell what was leather or cloth and what might have been disintegrating skin. The fact that he has hooves has to mean something. It can't be just some demon thing, because that's too easy. And, like FSM said, why would he replace human legs, metal or not, with damn horse legs? There's absolutely no reason for it.

As for the skin, I'm gonna have to say that some part of his body turned to metal, and there was dead skin starting to dry up and peel off of him with no moisture, or need.

Is UFF different from normal? Reed's power being water-based seems like a bit of a stre- *Suppresses horriffic pun.*

I never read FF, but the Air and water etc thing was quite clever.

Also I didnt know Man-Thing was involved in the explosion, or whatever it was. It looked like there was only 5 humans and that it :confused:

After the accident, DOom's skin started peeling off and underneath was metal. His body now resembles a suit of armor.

Flameswordsman

Couldnt his legs take being metal then, surely he didnt purposely replace them with horse legs?

In issue 7, page 4, middle panel to be exact (I had to look it up or I would've gone crazy), there is a picture of Reed and Sue, below them are Johnny and Ben, and then Man-Thing (who looks like Cthulthu) and Victor.

On a side note, before UFF came out, I wrote a rough script for what I wanted to see, and the whole elements thing played heavily into it I'm going to have to find and post it. It borrowed a little from the Mangaverse, meaning that Johnny was a girl, but the first villain/ally was Namor, not Moleman or Doom. I'm glad that they figured out an origin that avoided space, considering mine just barely did.

TheSumOfGod

But still, what the hell was Man-Thing doing there? He's very cool and all that, but... wtf?! Does he come from the Negative Zone? Is he an interdimensional traveller? Was someone else transformed during the accident? Nice cameo, but unless they bring him back later on and explain why he was there and how he shares his origin with the Fantastic Four, it shall forever remain a rare WTF moment.

For the most part I was enjoying the UFF until they began concentrating on Doc Doom. Personally, the character has comepletely lost the essance of what made him unique. Not to mention the most impressive and intimadating villain in any comic universe. Doom's a brilliant, ego driven, self righteous man. His lack of true superpowers (other than sorcerous abilities) added to his entire mystique. His genius level IQ and his indomitable willpower were more than enough to make him the match of any character in comics. And most everything they seem to be doing with him in UFF is a huge reversal of what made the character so great.

Although I do like this Ultimate Doom, before Doom was introduced in UFF, I thought it would sort of play out like this: Ben Grimm gets super-strength and a rock-hard body, Sue receives invisibilty and shielding, Reed receives flexibilty and elasticity, Johnny gets the abilty to turn to flame, and Van Damme receives a mutilated body. It would be more dramatic that way, I think.

Now his transformation to metal makes me think of the Thing's transformation to rock.

Ultimate Doom... what words could I use to describe this...?

How about;
Craptastic! Craptacular! The ruination of the best concieved character in comics!
Of course, looking at my screen name, you can tell I'm a little biased!

Totally agreed.:up:

C. Lee

Most people are saying he has horse feet....the comic I saw showed him with "cloven" hooves....like Satan, or a goat (which is also represented as evil in some mythologies) so I see it as the Evil symbolism.

Flameswordsman
08-03-2004, 11:42 AM
He didnt need evil symbolism though did he? Dooms always been a figure of power and ruthlessness, they didnt need to make him a complete freak to accomplish that

Spinned is right aswell, his skin transforming to metal sounds stupid, the appeal of Doom was always that he was just a man, a bitter genius of a man, but still just a regular human who took on the likes of the Fantastic Four and Avengers with his cunning and strategy

Him walking the streets like a beggar wasnt that good either, i havnt read any of my Ult. FF's yet, but he looked like a homeless mess in that big green cloak

Since it's UFF, he's probably the illegitimate Love-child of Reed and Doom or something that makes EXACTLY that much sense.

I bought the Ultimate Fantasic Four hardcover Vol 1. today! I really like the story! It's totally different then their original origin! Vol 1. only covers issue 1-6! I haven't read anything after issue 6! Are they good? They focus on finding Victor right?

turbyfill
08-05-2004, 02:26 AM
I wouldn't say they FOCUS on finding him. The first issue of the arc focuses on his history, but the rest includes a great deal of the four. A lot having to do with Ben Grimm still adjusting to his new situation. In fact it isn't even until the very end of the last issue that Victor even becomes an issue.

In other things Dooms just worn a metal costume, but maybe now they are taking that theme to its extremes. :doom: Whos knows? And the hooves, maybe their trying to send across a demonic sort of figure. I dunno. lol

Ratcrawler

While I'm not really fond of the cloven feet myself, they are starting to grow on me. I think they would have looked better on Nightcrawler, but whatever. Ben Grimm lost his pinky digits I guess because when your hands are the size of baseball gloves, coordinated fingers just kind of go out the window. Perhaps it's all some kind of metaphysical mutation process? I suppose Doom's legs are now faster and much more powerful then before. As for the bolts on his face, they're not really bolts at all but rather some sort of threat disPlay. Like those lizards with sPikes over their eyes. They don't really do anything.

I think the whole "Van Damme" thing was pretty well explained. He descended from Vlad Dracula and his ancestors kept changing their names. He will keep up that tradition by changing Van Damme to Von Doom. It's an interesting and symbolic change. As for his little village, "The Keep", my guess is that this will become Latveria. That country doesn't exist in the real world, so maybe they're presenting the birth of a nation? Doom's undergoing a literal rags to riches transition. And sorcery? It's his twisted view of science as he explained in Doom:1.

Don't give up on Ultimate Doom yet, you guys.

Who read the newest issue? Interesting developments with Doom.

Doom can apparently from metal spines from his body and fire them out at people. He also can breathe out a poisonous mist. They definitely seem to be making him more demon-like he pretty much handed Ben, Johnny, and Sue their asses on a platter. We'll see what he does against read next issue

as a virtual newbie to the Fantastic Four world i read issue 1 - 11 of Ultimate today. i have to say i didnt reall like doom. the thing i didnt like was his mask i dunno there is one picture its on the bottom right of a page and its a close up but he just looks so kid-ish

Ultimate so far has tried to make things more realistic but to me this throws that out of the window. Doom dosent look right IMO the older incarnation which i have only previusly experienced in Spidey's verse was way better and was essentially one of my fav's

I didn't like the way they interpreted Doom. Altho from the sounds of it, they try to fix him up to better suit the classic variation, I haven't read those particular chapters yet. I would've perfered him to be a more global threat. He def. didn't live up to my favourite villain's reputation, that's for sure.
