This place needs a little more octopus. So here it is. Fan art of the good doctor - because even villains need loving. :D
I suppose this first one here doesn't count as art; all I did was scribble on a milk moustache and add text. Oh well.

And if Ock and Spidey were the same age in kindergarten:

That guy with the hat and the cig is a character I created eons ago and haven't really developed much since, sadly. :\ I should get back on that. His name is Moose and he's a warrior monk. Kind of an oxymoron, that is.

I make this up as I go. Hahah. Spontaneity is sometimes the best way to go. If I think about something for too long it loses whatever it is that gives it the funny. I've got an idea for Eddie. But I've got to finish this bit with Otto and his new 'equipment'.
If this weren't about kids that last sentence might have sounded dirty.

Good web-weaving gosh!
I have just checked this thread for the first time, and it is by far my favorite one.
There is some amazing stuff on this board, but this is definitely the very best, Jennifer!
The drawings on the first page were very good, but your talent really shines in the Boy Genius comic.
- genuine talent: simple design, very clear and efficient; lots of emotions, whether through Spidey's mask (having him always in mask is quite funny), Ock's glasses, or the tentacle's attitude (and snarls and hisses)
- wonderful humor & writing: characterization (you've given them much personality, and this only within a few comics!-- new, lovable personalities), staging, setting up the gags, details; truly hilarious moments, sweet touches
- very good dialogue : it flows nicely, sounds perfectly natural, and there are lots of funny bits
- great concept, well carried-out: it's odd Marvel / DC et al haven't done such comics yet; I'm afraid they will just steal your idea
Whatever success you meet with will be highly deserved. :)

Wow, if I do see it I'll be picking that up. Funny how you've turned young Spidey into this sort of whacky, feather-brained character-- taking his wise-cracking attitude to the extreme. It does make for a heck of a lot of humor-- this, and having me always in his mask, which makes him really weird, and helps playing him off Ock's straight character.
The tentacles are great too-- the one taking a cookie in the bag! :D
I'd be curious (make that: eager) to see your take on young Goblin or even a young, brooding Batman (in the same strip)
Note:

Hi guys. You're all closet admirers of Doc Ock, aren't you? ;)
I'm glad these tickle your funny bone. I've got some ideas about GG and why he's so crazy, and a one time gag for King Pin. My main problem? I'm afraid I don't know much about characters like Juggernaut or Batman, at least, not enough to dig out qualities that I like about them to completely blow out of proportion into a comic strip.
Spidey, for example. I take all his joking and that heart of gold and expand on it. Otto is a big brain, and lets his companions know it too, but yet he's still a little kid. GG, well, I've got an idea for him, and I do believe it's going to be a love it\hate it response with how I handle him. :)
I do think there is a lot of potention for more interaction with just Spidey and Otto, too, so I'm in no rush to take on more than I can chew.

The key word for Batman: brood.
I know it's for marvel characters and all, but, the thought of a kid version of Batman is just hilarious, in my opinion.

I have no problem with only those two characters.
Idiotic as it was, I stated I would like to see how she would handle a young Batman, but I'm not giving orders or strongly wishing that.
Of course, the strip is perfect as it is.
Of course, Jennifer should keep doing only those two characters until she feels comfortable with them and has another good idea for a character
Of course I was not idotically dictating her to add another character.
I meant it as "that would be funy" or "I wish I were you (talent and all), because I would like to do this with that character".
Reading her strip and replies here, I think Jennifer is intelligent enough to understand this and to do whatever she likes, and defeinitely not an "idiot" than might take such wishful thinking and "propositions" from "a million idiots" as so many orders.

did i say "Oliver, stop being an idiot"? no. why is it, that any time i make a post like this, people go "i didn't do it!" as if i was attacking that individual. i was pointing out that fans (in this thread and others) will often suggest something, and if the artist says "nah, not feeling it" the fan then tries to convince the artist to do it anyways. "but! it would be so cool! LOL!"
so this is how it goes. as for my last post, if you are someone who makes a suggestion, and then the artist says "no" and you then keep suggesting it, then that post applies to you and you are an idiot. if you suggested something, the artist said "no" and you said "okie dokie, you're the artist here!" then the post doesn't apply to you and you can stop taking it as a personal attack on you.
but you're right Oliver. that entire post was about you.

I may have overreacted, but since I remembered I may have been the first to make a comment of the "having x in it would be funny", I did take it personally, especially being a newbie here.
And being waken up early by some stupid phone call when you literally spend nights working certainly doesn't help.
Checking the previous pages, I see I even said it was better to have two good characters than a bad bunch of guest stars. I could have been clearer on my "suggestion" though.
Sorry.

let her draw whatever the hell she wants to draw. sheesh. she's got an obsession with guys with more than one appendage...that's what she likes drawing. so let her draw him and his little adventures and his appendages. me...i like drawing girls with multiple mouths.
You know why I love drawing Otto as a little kid? Because it's absurd to imagine him as a little kid, with his tentacles already, sitting in school with a boy who insists on wearing his Spider- Man costume to class. It completely craps on any semblance of continuity and logic, and I like it.
And the absurdity shall continue. :) And go on with your bad self and multiple orificed women. :p

let's not ruin any chance of artistic integrity by throwing in a bunch of needless characters.
end of rant.
Thanks, Bob. It does get overwhelming, for one big reason:
As an artist with a strip that entertains people (for whatever reason) I want to give people what they want so they'll still be interested. But the minute you start throwing in what everyone suggests, you lose what it was you liked about the whole thing to begin with. That and as we all know so well, you can't please everyone.
Not to say I don't like feedback or suggestions - I do. But I really don't want to try putting in other characters if I don't know how to bring out the qualities that would make them amusing in the strip.
I suck at trying to explain stuff. :(

I imagine if Doc Ock ever saw this strip he'd beat me maliciously for even suggesting he'd want to play on a swingset. Sorry, I had to do it.:)

I suck at trying to explain stuff. :( the explanation was perfect. especially the last part. when people request some character i either don't know or don't like, whatever i draw would lack any emotional attachment. and without emotional attachment, no matter how talented an artist, it just won't look as good. and this applies even more so when it comes to writing a character.
anyways, i'm going to stop spamming this thread with my long winded crap.
i think the swing set comic is my favorite of them all. with the pacing at the end after the kids go inside. cheers!

It's not long winded-crap. It's intelligent posting and I like it. :) This one was definitely a cavity inducing strip.

That show and tell strip is my favorite because of Otto's expression in the last panel. It works well, I think.

Well, i didnt want you to introduce any new characters, i just wanted, maybe when they are in lab at school or somthing, you can have ock doing his thing with the speghetti hat, and in the back ground, maybe eddie with the cancer suite, thats what the symbiote was in the ultimates, some sort of medical experiment, and it could get on eddie, or somthing like that and you can see him change, then in the next pannel it carries on with the story as if it never happend, you know just a cameo, I never meant to overwhelm you, or lose what you like in the first place, i just think a kiddie venom would be f*ing histerical.

I fixed the comic where Spidey sings the "Henry the Eighth" song and reposted the strip. I think the last panel works better now.
