I've seen a couple of these, so I thought I'd start my own...
Hopefully I can post more stuff as I have time.

For now, here's a Spiderman skeleton I drew at school for my Anatomy class (I go to the Alberta College of Art & Design.)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v475/dukerjay/spideyskeleton.jpg

BTW...this drawing is about 4 X 5 feet.

It is nice and weird isn't it? I'd very much like to see Mr. Fantastics skeleton in a similar 'X-Ray Action Pose".

Funny you should say that...I had some plans to draw another four for my final project in that class. Nightcrawler, The Hulk, Wolverine and none other than Mr. Fantastic. I ended up going a different direction, though.
Who knows, maybe sometime this year.
The only problem is that they're so big. Kind of labour intensive.

I'll post a couple of pics right now.
I hope nobody's too mad that they aren't all exactly connected to comics.

This one's a drawing of an old photograph of my dad and uncle...(about 4 X 2 feet).

These are pics of a two-page spread I'm doing of my cousin as a Jedi Knight.
Obviously, they aren't close to done, but they're coming along.
(Not the best reproductions because I'm currently not in posession of a scanner...these are all from a digital camera.)

Any plans on what you're going to do once you get out of school?

Decided I couldn't wait for a scanner, so I started colouring this one. Still a work-in-progress, but even the flat colours help to bring it alive a little more.

In response to Midknight:
ACAD is a pretty good school. Lots of good instructors. It's one of, if not, the top schools in Canada and I would guess North America. I'm not bragging, this is just what I've heard...remember Todd McFarlane went here for a couple of years and also, John Byrne way back when. I think, more than anything I'm lucky because I happen to live in the same city as the school.

I don't know what I'll do after school. Comics would be a dream job, though.

once you go tablet, you never go back. :) Good stuff. I'm not a fan of the black background, but it's not my choice. I like to bring the colors out more by making a light background.

again, just personal preference, it reflects nothing in the characters and drawing. Keep it up!

Are you kidding? The artwork of today may be a lot better than McFarlane's work, but he revolutionized the Spider-Man comics. Compare a pre-McFarlane copy of ASM to any McFarlane issue. You'll notice the difference. The man's a genious.

I just lost all respect for you as an artist.
Why would you say that? We wouldn't have the modern Spider-Man poses like the one in the first post if McFarlane didn't have his crack at Spider-Man. Like I said, since he had his shot at Spidey there's been people who've built on his ideas and done it a million times better, and that's why Erik Larson got ASM while McFarlane got moved over to the crappy Web of Spider-Man. McFarlane's art in itself may not be incredible, but his ideas that were first fleshed out in his art were incredible. I mean he invented the look of the webbing, for Pete's sake. Before he came on Spidet swung from net, not strings of webbing.

LOL, that's all I was saying, anyway. McFarlane's work is awful in light of the artists out there today, I just meant if you compare what he did to what came before him, you'd see how he was a very necessary step on the ladder to the evolving look of Spidey.

And man, I love the art in this thread, but my fav is still the skeleton. I just can't get over how much that rocks.

Sweet artwork, man. You say you go to an Art school in Alberta? Maybe it's the same one I found online when I was searching for Canadian Art schools. I would have to disagree about the best in USA...maybe Canada, I've heard of your school, its not too shabby actually. I go to SCAD, down here in Savannah, GA. We're the best internationally, but yet there are other schools who are better than us, like NYC Academy of Art....I think thats the name, or California school of Art

dansker
02-09-2005, 12:54 AM
I am from Canada and there are better known schools for art. I had never even heard mention of ACAD before (not entirely surprising). The fact the McFarlane went there wouldnt necessary connote greatness in a school. In fact, with art you could make a name for yourself coming from anywhere...

Duker Jay
02-09-2005, 04:02 AM
Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that I thought ACAD was the best school in the world...what I meant was that it's one of the top in North America.

And, I know having McFarlane go to your school doesn't make it great (although I'm still confused as to why McFarlane gets no respect here). Why didn't anyone mention John Byrne...the man who saved the X-Men?

One more thing I'm confused about. tyler...if your school is the best internationally...how could anyother school be better? Maybe I just read that wrong.

Very nice work. The only real criticism is with Captain Canada: The costume is WAYYYY too complex, especially if he were to beome an active comic book character. Curvy plastic armor is unusually difficult to draw actively, and really, something like Vindicator, who is very less-is-more in design, works out better, and gets the Canada part across better.

and as a corrolary, Captain Denmark seems to be exactly the same character.

On the whole though, everything else is fantastic.

A couple of things to put up.

First, a little graphic design for everybody. This is a logo I created for our hockey team. It got made and it's on our jerseys...unfortunately, we still haven't won a game.

http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/3135/gearjammers7we.jpg

And this one here is one I did for the colouring contest on the board. THIS IS NOT MY LINE-ART...I JUST DID THE COLOURING. This is a bigger one than I posted in the actual thread...don't know why I mentioned that.

Anyway...here it is.

I was looking at Ronnie Thunderbolt's page where he has drawn a bunch of Marvel heroes in the X-Men:Evolution style. I really like what he's been doing over there. Here's his link:http://www.medinnus.com/rt_art

Anyway, I've been waiting a while for him to make some of my favourite characters...mostly the FF...but he hasn't made it there, yet.

I decided I might as well go ahead and do it myself.

So, here's the first of my Steve Gordon-esque heroes (blatantly ripping off Ronnie Thunderbolt's idea.)

The Thing:
http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/4016/thinganimcurrentfin7sx.jpg

I've got the rest of the Four in the works. Along the lines of what Ronnie's doing on his site, I'll probably flesh out the array of costumes for the FF...including Ultimate and other alternates.

I did make up the character...well, the costume, anyway. I never had any kind of character development.

I made that around the time that a bunch of different national "Captains" started popping up in Ultimates 2 and I wanted to take a shot at what a Captain Canada might look like.

It's SUPPOSED to be nothing more than a blatant rip-off of Captain America et al's costumes in that book.

Well, so they say. It's designed by Tony Stark and kind of augments some of Spidey's powers. I'm thinking it'll only last for Civil War...

Did you freaking draw that spidey I love it so much more than the crappy one they released.

Uh...I manipped McNivens drawing. I basically had to go in and erase the lines within the costume (webs, designs, etc.) and get it to a point where it as basically blank with shading. Then I drew in the new design and coloured it and blended to try to get it to fit with the rest.

Holy crap duker jay i've completely missed your new stuff really great man i was thinking the same thing about ronnie's site of character i wish he would do, like MOONKNIGHT! or Darkhawk

Well...since you asked.

My cousin and I are in the process of writing a comic book arc for a character we've created. It's based off an old Danish legend and I think the story's a winner.

We're still writing it (it will be a six issue arc) and when I get a good chunk of time, I'm going to start drawing it. I've also got to finalize the character designs and all that.

I don't know that it's going to make us rich and famous but it's been fun so far and I'm pretty sure we'll be proud of the results.

I did some Spider-Man drawings in the X-Men: Evolution style. I know Ronnie Thunderbolt has some on his page but he was just a little too small for my own personal liking.

I've got three so far...

The first appearance Spider-Man:

The current costume:

http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/6812/spidermananimcurrentfin2gf.jpg

And the new "Iron Spider" design, which I will go on record as saying I like, if only for the reason that I know it's not going to last longer than the Civil War story and seems to have a purpose, storywise. Actually, I think the design is pretty cool, too:

So, of course I had to do the symbiote costume. Here it is:

http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/3038/spidermanblackanimfin7zt.jpg

And, I also came across this one on a website and I went and read the issue it comes from. It's tough to get a definitive idea of the design but I tried. It's Spidey's second insulated suit for fighting Electro:

http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/8963/spidermanelecanimfin1rx.jpg

It really doesn't look as cool as I thought it was going to...oh well.

I'm not sure which one you're talking about...PM me a picture if you have one.

In the meantime, here's another armour once worn. The hard thing with these is finding pictures of what exactly they look like...I had to guess on some of this one:

Duker Jay

Yeah. But, like Captain Canada, he's got no background and was mainly made up as one of the international rip-offs of Captain America in the Ultimates 2.

Well, obviously it's just personal preference but I like the new "Iron-Spider" design. It makes sense considering it's from Tony Stark. Also, there's something about that silver one that doesn't sit right with me...I don't know.

Anyways, I'm just finishing up some more recent alternates...I should have them up by the end of the day. Actually, more like the next couple hours.

Duker Jay
01-20-2006, 04:55 PM
As promised, here's some more recent variations for Spidey's costume.

And, as ArtistSean suggested, these ones come with turn-arounds...just because I thought the back of the costumes were cool enough to show.

First up, his House of M suit:

After being praised for my simplicity, I'm busting out this one.

It's Beast in his Astonishing get-up. The shading got more complex and away from the style slightly...but I thought it looked better like this rather than more simple colouring.

So, here we go:

Despite the fact that you use the same poses in each one, I like your Spider-Designs. ArtistSean did one not too long ago for the "What's Spidey's new costume?" thread, and it was really cool. Providing he gives the okay, think you'd be willing to do that version? I could probably whip up a cheap-ass "Peter Parker, Agent of SHIELD" story.

Duker Jay
01-22-2006, 03:19 AM
I'm always open to requests...I can't guarantee it will get done in a timely fashion but I could give it a shot, I'm sure.

Sorry about all the same poses...that's basically the only way I can do each variant as quickly as I can.

I may have a Wolverine up in the next hour or so...depends on how fast it comes together.

A'ight.

So...before hit the sack, here's the Wolverine I was working on, in both a masked and unmasked version.

Again, Ronnie Thunderbolt DOES have a Logan of his own but there are a few tweaks I wanted to make...not the least of which is his costume...this one comes straight out of the pages of Astonishing X-Men:

The only possibilities are illegal, I'm sure.

What I meant was to design your own or something. What do you do for a living?

Duker Jay
01-24-2006, 07:02 PM
Oh...I've gotcha.

Well, right now, I work at a homeless shelter for a living. I'll be doing this until the summer when I'll go tree-planting and then I plan on going back to school next fall. I've completed two years of a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree at the Alberta College of Art and Design and I think I want to finish that up.

But, yeah...it'd be a dream to be able to do something like this professionally...someday. I do have ideas kicking around in my head and I'm currently working on one whenever I can get the chance.

Who knows, though...who knows?

Thats cool, I went to the Laguna College of Art and Design.

Are you going to make a group shot of the X-Men, or of all the spider-men?
Id love to see an action shot of Spider-Man versus Venom or a close up of the things facial expressions or something but I know your probably busy with your own stuff too, like school.

Anyway...here it is.

http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/6596/swordfinished9tz.jpg how do you have a pic that has been colored this well... but all your other coloring does not even scrape the surface of this image?

I thought of that...it'll probably happen eventually.
