Calling All Super-Writers!

[The Singularity]

I'm thinking of doing a series of Superman animated short films. Think Clone Wars but with Superman. What I'd like is about 12, 1-3minute episodes written by various people (AKA YOU!)... no dialogue. The idea is for each episode to be no longer than 5 minutes and have no or very little dialogue. I have a treatment for the first 8 episodes. The plan is to have the episodes written then have the animation done by a few other people to air on bluetights.net every month. Anyone interested post here.

Justin over at Bluetights offered a while back to do the animation and someone else offered to do storyboards for it. Hopefully, because the scripts are short the animation shouldn't be that much of a strain to do. And should be quite quick. But at this point I'd like to get the writing done first. Then I'd start to seriously think about animation.

Not yet. He's currently on holiday in the UK so its going to be a while. I'm concentrating on getting the scripts together first. Then I'll see how easy the animation thing is going to be. Hopefully, it will be a breeze for someone like Justin to do. The scripts are short and each episode will air every month through BlueTights.

I'm glad to see that Reaper will be writing one also. I've read his work on previous projects (Otherside most notably) and i must say hes on heck of a writter. In fact he's been a massive help on my Batman: The End project. Without him i don't think that the story would even be half as good.

And I havent read DarkKnightJRK's work before but i am looking forward to it.

Glad you liked. If anything I was worried that there is too much dialogue. It’s so damn hard to write something so small that still has story points and a sense of character. I just couldn’t make Luthor seem evil without some dialogue. I hope it was ok …

Wow, I didn't really think much of my writing one script a day, now that I see people dropping out due to time issues. I really just whipped mine up in an hour or so. And the possitive feedback maked me feel even better.

Let me know when these are ready I would love to see them, or help with season 2. Or if anyone is doing anything similar to this I would love to help (Especcially if it is Marvel, I really don't know much about Superman beyond the usual common knowledge)

All the episodes are now done. BlueTights is managing the animation. He's got a list of artists and designers we're going to use. All the scripts will be online soon, so I'll pm the writers the link so you can read all the episodes.

Sorry for the delay. BlueTights has been super busy getting dc-on-film up an running. Look for that new site to be fully operational in mere hours. Anyway, the site isn't up yet but I want to get some feedback from you guys... so pm me email adresses and I'll send out all 12 episodes for your perousal. I want to know if the story is coherent and works. I've already got some feedback from someone who's going to direct a few of the episodes.

The episodes are all great. I love especially how 5 and 6 tie together, and 6 makes the events of 5 (which, I'll admit, I wrote VERY abstract) more clear. One question; I realize this isn't his cartoon, but what happens to Batman after episode 5?

Orson Welles has a great voice. He gives that episode a deep and menacing ambience.

All the episodes kind of pair off together. Glad to hear that it flows.

Also, what kind of style is the animation going to be done in? Is it supposed to bridge to the new movie? So is the design going to resemble Brandon Routh? Yes I will keep doing so every few months for the next twenty years if I have to......I am damn proud of the two I wrote.......and I think they were a great way to start this of.....

Maybe we should post out scripts so we can at least all see where this was actually going before nothing ever happened with it.....but I still hold out hope

Here is what I did for Episode one, it was basically just supposed to be a quick teaser to set the Series up.


INT. CLARK KENT’S APARTMENT - NIGHT

WIDE: a small one-bedroom place. Sparse rather than cluttered. Pale moonlight streaks in through the large windows.

Clark walks across the room, takes off his glasses and sits down on his bed. He looks at the clock.
The red glowing digital clock beside his bed reads 4:35 am.

Clark lies down to go to sleep.

JUMP CUT TO:
ALARM CLOCK: 7:30 AM.
The alarm BLARES.

In an instant Clark is up to switch it off, not looking tired at all. Clark sits up and gets out of bed.

CUT TO:
EXT. SIDEWALK - DAY
Clark, in his classic blue business suit carrying a briefcase and sporting a fancy matching fedora, walks down the busy sidewalk. He comes to a group of people all looking up worried, heads carried towards the sky. Clark joins them in looking up.
He sees a building under construction and near the top is a construction worker hanging over the edge and holding on for his life.

Clark peaks into action.

Clark jogs over to a nearby phone booth and prepares to rip open his shirt in the classic “Superman” style but is interrupted to see an OLD WOMAN nattering away on the phone.

With a discouraged look on his face Clark looks around him to see if anyone is watching him.

Everyone seems focused on the events overhead.
In an instant he drops his briefcase and flies upward…
As he is soaring up his hat falls off… Clark keeps flying and puts the man safely back on the ledge and in a flash is back on his way down. He grabs his hat on the way down and lands beside the phone booth in time to catch his briefcase.

Clark once again looks around him, as he puts his hat back on, and a quick adjust of his tie, with a boyish grin.

INT. BUS - DAY
A crowded city bus. Clark sits at the back near the window, keeping his eyes on everyone in front of him. Out in the street up ahead he notices a YOUNG THUG grab a WOMAN’S purse and run off. Clark stands up and prepares to rip open his shirt “Superman” style again, but looks around and sees all the people. So, he just sits down and pulls down his glasses.

The thug runs down the street with the woman in pursuit behind him. Suddenly a small red beam of heat vision cuts through the strap on the purse and it falls to the ground. The thug keeps running as the woman stops to collect her purse in total bewilderment.

Clark smiles to himself – the same boyish grin.

CUT TO:
EXT./ INT. DAILY PLANET - DAY
Clark steps off of the bus in front of the Daily Planet building and look sat his watch. It reads 9:10 am. He hurries into the front doors.

CUT TO:
INT. OFFICE - DAY
The busy office. He makes his way over to his desk. LOIS peers round from the other side.

LOIS
Geez Clark, maybe you could show up on time one day.

CLARK
Sorry, Lois, but I’m not the Flash.

Clark then reacts to a BANK ALARM off in the distance through his SUPERHEARING. He turns and manages to slip away.

CUT TO:
EXT./INT. BROOM CLOSET
Clark looks around him one last time and then enters the broom closet…

ZOOM IN on his chest as he finally rips his shirt open Superman style…

Our music builds…
