View Full Version : Batman or Superman

I've come to the conclusion that there are two people in this world. Batman people and Superman people. Lots of the Superman fans think Batman is a psychotic B****** and lots of Batman (and marvel) fans call Superman an overpowered boy scout that gives Batman and bad rap when he comes in to help Batman. I just wanted to know what kind of person you are. So vote and reply. It will be interesting to see what most of this board is.

I'm a Batman fan.
But if you look more into my persona.
I'm more Supes, I can't hurt a fly and I always wanna help people.
But I'm also the guy who want's to run the show.
So it's like 30% Bats and 70% Supes.

Either one wouldn't be the same without the other. It's a symbiosis really. Superman is the goody-two-shoes boy scout because Batman is the psychotic bastard and vice versa. It's like Alpha and Omega, ying and yang, two sides of the same coin... and naturally drama goes better with angst and Batman may have better stories cause he's nuttier then a fruitcake but all in all I just don't believe one is better then the other.
so I'm sticking with Wonder Woman... yeah. I'm a wonder woman person. :D

The Batman

Batman's not psychotic....or least not the batman i remember...

Herr Logan
10-10-2004, 11:07 AM
Yes, the Batman is not psychotic, he's merely neurotic. Psychotic means a break from reality. The Batman is very much in touch with reality (as far as the DC Comics universe goes). He is the ultimate pragmatist, except for the aspect about choosing not to kill people. This flaw in his logic, however, don't not make him psychotic. It merely adds another layer onto his obsessive-compulsive nature in that he's being extremely careful. The fact that he thinks he can safeguard life by considering all life precious is a delusion, but not a psychotic one.

Oh yeah... the question. I'm a Batman type of person. :batman:

He's not "normal," that's for sure. Paranoia, obsessive-compulsive personality, possible case of megalomania... Even, if he isn't a few sandwiches short of a picnic, he certainly brought some unusual sandwiches.

True, true.

I think most of the problem is stupid people picking thing up from second hand talk. The "Prep Time" cliche is such a ****ing worn out line, I want to throw up every time someone uses it to try and be funny. Reed Richards repulses Galactus and goes to Heaven and yet Batman gets the **** end of things because his exploits are more commercial and recent, most of them anyhow. Man I hate some people.

People in general tend to be morons. Anyone who holds a tribalistic, competitive stance against other characters than their favorite is an idiot. This applies to all characters and every other thing that people might like. Your labeling bat-fans is a bit confusing, considering your name, but if you're only going by your own behavior, it makes perfect sense.

Well, okay, maybe nowadays I have realized that Batman might not be able to beat EVERYONE, but he's still my favorite character. But I still do think there might be a way to for Batman to beat Superman. And I have a question:

If Batman had access to magic, could he take away Thor's powers?

If Batman had access to magic, could he take away Thor's powers?

Even if he did, I doubt it. The only power Thor has that anyone would be able to take away is Mjolnir's inherent abilities. I mean, he could still do his unfettered might attack or his god blast even without Odin's enhancements. I don't think Bruce is partial to magic at all either, he's kind of like Reed with it.

And Batman could beat Superman, but not if Superman is evil and wants to actually kill him. Yes, Superman has always held back against Bruce, whether you want to admit it or not and there have always been circumstancial things going on between the two. From DKR to them "fighting" in 86 during the DC Relaunch, the Man of Steel mini... Doesen't take much away from Bruce, still very impressive. He's beaten Prometheus, White Martians, he had some pretty ingenius plans and what not to take out the JLA and others, yadda yadd yadda. But he's also gotten his ass kicked by Deathstroke and he's been stalemated by the KGBeast. :D ;)

Herr Logan
10-10-2004, 06:04 PM
If Superman meant business and was willing to kill, he would easily destroy the Batman, period.

By the same token, if the Batman meant business and was willing to kill, he could very well take out most of the metahumans in the DC universe, including Superman. The Batman would indeed need prep-time and external forces and devices to make that happen, but he has the resources and the intelligence. His contingency plans for the JLA are a perfect example.

X
10-10-2004, 06:12 PM
I think when you really look at what happened during Tower of Babel, what Batman did losing a bit of it's "wow". I mean, you had Ra's men doing all the work, that's more people right there that are in the Bat's family. And, if Batman was trying to take out a good part of DC Earth, I don't think he could get the Bat's family or any others to work with him. So what, he goes after people like the MM to stop a telepathic warning from getting to others?

The MM doesen't even have a fire weakness for the most part anymore... The Flash is faster then ever. I don't think the plan he cooked up for Wonder Woman would work a second time, and so on. I think the world in general is a bit more aware of The Batman and what he's capable of. If things did start to get really bad, I'm sure someone like Deathstroke would be called in once they found out it was bats. Someone who trumps him in strength, reflexes, toughness, yadda yadda yadda. He's just as good a planner with almost as much money, and so on. At the very least just Deathstroke could throw a serious wrench into the workings of Batman's plan. And don't say Batman would take him out relitivley soon, I'm sure Slade has plans in case Batman ever came after him again...

Herr Logan
10-10-2004, 09:47 PM
All right, all right... I never read the whole "Tower of Babel" story, I just got the highlights off this forum. And I have no idea what this Deathstroke person is capable of. Are you happy now? :(

The Batman is incredibly dangerous in similar ways as Dr. Doom, although on a much smaller scale. He's brilliant, calculating, rich, and ruthless when he needs to be. I didn't say he'd be invincible, I said he's capable of a frightening amount of damage. If Superman went homicidal before the Batman did, he could very easily destroy the Batman before he could mobilize any kind of attack.

X

The Defenders? Meh. Great idea on paper but they almost always got stuck with really ****ty villians who were way too weak for them, and after Sal Buscema left, The Defenders pretty much just flat out sucked. Lot of other problems as well. So no, I'm not very partial to them either. :(

I think I wouldn’t want someone to think of me as a ‘Batman’ type person. I mean Batman is cool in a comic book sense but in the real world if I sat next to a guy like that in a bar and he was being all ‘Batman’ I would think “What an a$$hole!”.

A lot of people are voting Batman because they would like to be cool like him. I would prefer people saw more as Superman than Batman. I’m not saying I’m anything like Superman. I’m not perfect. Not near it. But I’m more like Superman than a dark phantom of the night. I genuinely try hard to be a nice guy even when other people are being a$$hole’s to me. I always try to give someone the benefit of doubt. I always give my seat up on a bus or train to someone who needs it more. I don’t hold a grudge. The whole ‘do unto others …’ thing. That’s me. Sometimes I think why bother because no one else does but I’ve got to try. I hate people being inconsiderate and unsocial just to fit a trend. I feel sorry for those people. It’s not a religious thing, or particularly the way I was raised, it’s just the way I am.

And I hope there if people are being honest with this poll then they too will admit to being more of a ‘Superman’ than some over-angry, untrusting, a$$hole. Batman is a great character but I don’t want to b like him. Ever.

Bat Andy
10-12-2004, 03:02 PM

Well, I would rather BE Superman than Batman (Most people would rather be Superman than anybody, really). But I prefer Batman the character. They are both awesome in their own way, but I think Batman has more......I don't want to say "depth" to his character, because I don't want to degrade Superman in any way. But Batman has more to enjoy, as a franchise, in my opinion. Purely my opinion.

If you want to talk in generalisations, it would seem that Marvel fans would like Batman MORE than other DC characters, because he is very much like the old Marvel staple of "brilliant but flawed" superheroes. That's IF you want to judge purely by DC only and Marvel only fans. Rather than the more common "person who reads both".

Mischievous
10-14-2004, 03:49 AM
of the two, i picked Batman just cause i like the complexity of his character. I also a bit bias because i have a problem with the guy everybody looks upto. I've always enjoyed villains, and Batman's probably the only heroic character other than Wolverine that has the ability to make a great villain without changing their personas.

Just wanted to add a little something here since this is the DC comic book section instead of the batman or superman section. Lately i've been thinking a lot of what if batman became a villain, but i also thought of something else. Instead of Superman vs. Batman, what would the fight be like if it was Superman...wait for it....wait for it...vs. BRUCE WAYNE. Bruce in all aspects is pretty much similar to Lex Luthor plus an alter ego. If he used his billionaire status, wouldn't it be an interesting battle between he and superman?

Bat Andy
10-14-2004, 04:35 PM
Bruce and Lex are very similar with the only difference coming from their personal goals. Lex- world domination Bruce- erradication of crime (ie - his world domination). Nice deduction Mischievious.

Indeed his is. He's probably affriad or in denial that deep down in side he likes Batman too. That he actually finds something appealing about the character. Or perhaps he can't grasp the concept of the character, and instead of trying to understand the character, he would rather just bad-mouth it to no end. OR perhaps he's just really jealous from mere fact that Batman's a more interesting character with a conflict. Where Superman.. there is no conflict.;) Whatever the case, I like both characters. But Batman has always been my favorite. I feel no need to visit the Superman boards and lambast the character just to make the one of my choosing look better.

Batman is the cooler character but there are just so many really interesting stories you can write around him. With Superman it's almost infinite whether it be in the comics or in the animated tv shows. Even in the movies Superman has gotten the upper hand in terms of storytelling.

You do realize all the prep-tim stuff is joking around, right? The reason Batman fans think Batman can beat Superman is...he has. :oAnd you do realize most of the time I and joking only sometimes I like to piss off Bat-Fans most of the time I could care less about which one is better.

bats, but only because of the supermen that give me that sense of balance. my own concept of a perfect world depresses the hell out of me and without a clark to remind bruce of the light that exists within everyone, including himself, the batman ideology would either lead to an out of control depression or need to be abandoned in favour of something totally new - an even scarier concept.

yes i'm batman, but only because of the supermen, and i thank you all for being there.

batman first and only......but never without superman!I can't imagine one without the other one.4 me they are the 2 faces of the same coin...and I choose the side depending of my mood: I can't be always superman-like and it's easier to be brooding and dark...but not always.Personnally I voted Superman but I'm both!

Because people are expecting DC and WB to pay them off but the thing about it Superman is worth more then Millions. Seriously think about the bidding war that could go on for The Superman family if they take him away!!!! I mean you would have Marvel going for him, Image, everyone and trust me they will pay top dollar

definately superman,i love his outlook and super-gentlemen-ness(is that a word?)of him his ideals are parallel of that of captain america to uphold the ideals of truth justice and to do it in the most pure goodness way he can.
batman hold the same ideals but plays on them so differently he is more kick ass than supes and will threaten and instill fear, whereas supes instill more respect than bats does i think.
though in all fairness when they are together they truly are the worlds finest superheroes...i cannot think of a better team up of heroes in any comic that is bettter than bats and supes.
but superman is my favourite by far.

Wow, this thread has evolved into a real heated argument, instead of one question, there are three; which hero are u? who do u like most? and who could kick the other's ass? Personally, I would fall under the Superman type just because I'm more of a optimist/idealist, however i think Batman is the better hero by far. He has such a greater story, and there is that one flaw that he is controlling and obsesive, but he did witness his parent's death. While Superman on the other hand was raised on a farm by loving devoted couple. Hmmm...who has greater motivation? I also can't stand the fact that only indestuctable/nearly invincible villians can make Superman sweat. While Batman faces real psychos and dark villians, Superman is so freakin perfect with all those powers that he can only fight imaginary unrealistic bad guys. And for the last question...Batman could kick Superman's ass...if given prep time. Lol, jk. In seriousness, that isn't really a question because Superman is the stupid man of steel, fast as a speeding bullet, etc.

Batman has always been my favorite character because I've always felt I can relate to him best. I've found myself withdrawing from individuals when tragedy hits me, relying on myself and being one track minded. I've also always had a much darker personality and outlook on life.

A year ago I would have said Batman no problem but you know what? I have too many problems with Batman. My Batman is the animated series version. A detective and street-level guy, not a superhero. I pretty much get my fill of a street-level hero done right by reading Daredevil. I think Supes is overpowered but guess what? Writers never have him use half his powers anyway. So big deal. I'm a Supes guy:)

Superman of course even though he's lame
that's why his girlfriend’s name is Lois lame .

As for the batman, he's too much of a Joke
And that's why his greatest opponent is the Joker.
