What kind of boots give you three inches in height? Frankestein monster's ones?
Routh's close to 6'3. So with those boots, he looks about 6'5.

You know they can also put lifts inside the boots that would add about 2-3 inches without making the boots platforms....you can buy them at most convenient stores.

You seem to know a lot about this, maybe you can help me out. I know Reeve, Christopher Reeve wore lifts that boosted him up, but I'm not sure what they boosted him to. Was Reeve naturally 6'3 and he went up to 6'4 or '5, or was he already 6'4?
Reeve was reportedly 6'4" in real life. Any lifts he may have worn would have put him over that.

I don't think Reeve's boots had lifts. Go watch STM. The boots are more like socks at the sole which is how it was drawn in most of the comics in the 50's 60's 70's. Brandon is only an inch or so shorter. They really don't need to add lifts unless they want to for a particular look. They can make him look taller with camera angles and stuff.

After having posted some info on the suit, I'm going to spill some stuff about BJ.
He stands around 6'5" as Superman due to the boots.
He looks like a, and I quote, a "gorilla." He has HUGE biceps. He is, and I quote again, "ginormous."
His abs are similar to Pitt's abs in "Fight Club" in that when he flexes, the ab muscles pop out. Even without the muscle suit underneat the actual suit, you can see his ab muscles through the suit when he flexes.
His hair as Superman won't look like Reeve's. Instead of one shellacked curl forced into an S, he will have one or two strands or pieces just placed on his forehead. It will look...natural. His hair won't be as short as Reeve's. As they haven't done Clark Kent tests yet, I have no idea how his hair/attire will look.
He will wear blue contacts. The blue is pretty hard to explain. It's a blue that doesn't contrast with the blue of the suit. Kinda hard to explain. Either way, it will be blue. It won't be some completely alien blue.
Many many people are impressed and excited with how big BJ is right now. He looks intimidating, even moreso when he puffs out his chest.
Two months before Routh was officially cast, Singer knew he was the guy. Remember that convo they had at Coffee Bean in LA? That was pretty much the deal-maker. Singer showed the WB Routh's test as CK with a certain Lois candidate (not Bosworth) and told them how important it was to have Routh cast as Supes/CK. We know who the studio choices were...
So much for him being smaller than Reeve... :p ;)

I don't think she did. It was described to her. Enigma is describing it to us also. Sometimes stuff gets lost in the translation. Look at the kerfuffle over the Collar. If people knew the difference between a neckline, and a collar a lot of confusion could have been avoided!

?? So if the contacts don't contrast with the suit, then they are the same as the suit, No?? Or they compliment the suit? Yours sincerely Confused. Stephen ;) BTW. If your contacts have seen him all done up as Supes, Surely they can give us a clue as to when WB will issue a picture?

That's a cool quote from Spacey! BTW I was thinking if Routh stands 6' 5" in the boots, that means (He is in real life 6' 2" or 6' 2.5") he has 2.5 to 3" heels. Those are pretty big heels. If Reeve was 6' 4" wouldn't an inch or so heel be sufficient? He is already pretty tall so this smacks of overkill imo.

How could the contacts know when WB will issue a picture when it's not even clear whether the description is for the final suit?

Dude... I'm from Spain. Spain has NO prime minister. We call him "Presidente del Gobierno", which technically means he IS a president. And no... we didn't choose Zapatero because of that. We chose him because the former government lied about who had done the bombings of the train the 11th of March (elections were the 14th). The former government was saying it was ETA when everybody already knew it was Al-Qaeda. All the polls were giving them as the winners up until then, in fact the only doubt there was was if they would have absolute majority or not. In 8 years of government the ONLY mistake of the former government had been the Irak thing and we weren't going to kick them out for only one mistake. They screwed it in 3 days (from the 11th to the 14th of March) by trying to gain power by any means which included lieing. Since we had a dictatorship not so long ago we were quite susceptible in that matter and it hurt us in such a way that we just HAD to give them a lesson about democracy and kick them out though the oposition had NO programme... now the current socialist government is paying the consequences of this and although they were popular for certain decisions (Soldiers coming home, gay marriage...) their popularity is going down because those popular decisions don't mean crap when the economy is going to hell and the prices are shooting up like a rocket. The former government party is already ahead again in the polls (and most probably will win the next elections if this continues lik it is) and if there is (God forbid) another Al-qaeda attack in Spain (since the socialist party promised that we would never suffer islamist terrorism attacks) it'll mean the anticipated end of this government... the other day the current socialist Defense Minister was beaten up in a protest in favor of the terrorism victims for the concessions they're making to the Bask nationalists, tat's the real situation of Sapin right now. In the government change Iraq had NOTHING to do, and if you think it's a stable government you're very wrong. The international press has been feeding with a lot BS and misinformation regarding our political situation. What's more scary is that we're leaning towards a radicallity of political thinking that is too similar to the ones that lead to our Civil War... we just don't learn about our mistakes...

It was. There have been already 150 detentions (one of them was the boss of Al-Jazeera in Madrid... talk about impartial press... :o ), although 6 of them bacame suicide bombers in a flat in Leganes killing a policeman when they were about to be arrested. It was a ramification of Al-Qaeda named Islamic Group of Moroccan Combatants. Most of them were from Morocco and were also responsable for the attack in Casablanca the year before. Their boss was arrested in Italy (Milan, I believe)... his name was Mohamed "The Egyptian". It seems they were planning the attack since way before 9-11 according to what he said to the police.

What's frustrating is that there will still be naysayers complaining about how Routh isn't somehow "big enough."
But from what Batgirl has said, things are looking good. Huge biceps and abs that could stand out through the suit when he flexes is always a good thing (especially if you're of the female persuasion). Add the height to it, and he'll look the part, when all is said and done.
And needless to say, I can't wait to see Routh do this ... :supes:

You know, I hate to perpetuate another Welling rant, but how the hell can anyone go so far as to say Routh looks NOTHING like Superman and say Welling does? Welling doesn't have a square jaw, his nose is wide with constantly flaring nostrils, and his lips are ginormous. Superman.....doesn't.....look.....like....that. Period. He has in general hardly ever been drawn with any of those features let alone all of those features together. Sure an artist here and there may have put their personal stamp on their rendering of Superman by giving him whatever feature; but all around, Superman has thinner lips, a big square jaw, and a smallish nose sans raging bull nostrils. They chose Welling because he has a boyish face and would attract female fans because Smallville is Dawson's Creek but with Superman. Not because he was the spitting image of Superman per se. Routh's Jaw is huge, his nostrils aren't gaping, and his lips aren't nearly as Jolie as Wellings. Welling could very well be "an interpretation" of superman (he's not even superman, if anything he's the equivalent of superboy) but that's it. Routh fits that generic Superman look so much more, not to mention his voice is a hell of a lot deeper then Wellings.

Don't you mean, "How could they do this to Smallville fans?"
Look, I think Tom Welling is certainly attractive. But come on. Saying that Brandon Routh looks "nothing like Superman" at this point is just fanboy bitterness on parade (especially if Batgirl's description of his ripped body is anywhere close to accurate). At least wait until the movie comes out before you talk about Singer's casting of the role being a "disgrace."

Uh...I hate to break it to you, but WELLING DIDN'T WANT TO PLAY THE ADULT SUPERMAN. He had his chance and turned it down repeatedly.
If you're going to be a "Superman fan," the least you could do is respect Welling's decision. If he didn't want it, Singer was well within his rights to cast someone else. (And as for this Superman fan, I would have avoided this film like the plague if it had been a Smallville spinoff, so color me pleads that Wellign turned it down.)

This is an honest question to everyone here. Do you think we'll get a Routh's own take on Superman/Clark Kent or do you think he'll just try to mimic Reeve's performance? I'm not sure what we should expect, if BJ really is a fan, I'd hope he'll bring something else to the role, but I have this horrible feeling they want a Reeve impersonator (more or less). I don't know if this is true or not, but I thought I read somewhere that he does a great Reeve/clark impersonation. If thats right, I personally hope thats not why he was chosen. I want to see the character's portrayal evolve.

I doubt he'll impersonate Reeve's Clark Kent, considering that Reeve played him a bit over the top and it seems that this film won't be campy like the past ones. If anything I bet we'll see a more mild-mannered Clark Kent instead of the bumbler, but we'll probably see a shy and soft spoken CK, which is a couple of the characteristics I see in CK.

You lost me. Like seriously lost me.
I'm assuming you're implying that this circle jerk is no differnent then previous circle jerks that might have involved Welling. Slight flaw in your logic if that is so. Nay BIG flaw. First the 'circle jerk' refers to EVERYTHING about this movie, not just selective casting. You can't say a negative thing about the film if you previously supported Welling, cause it's just going to come back to that. And I don't recall you being driven away from the Super forum as a result of a Welling 'circle jerk'.

I hope so. Im not sure why people are worried about a camp factor with this movie? Just cause Singer is using the first two as vague history (whatever that term implies ) doesnt mean he's going to use that element of them. He's never made a campy movie before, if anything he went out of his way to avoid it in the X-Men movies, listen to the commentary of them and he expresses this.

I personally don't understand your logic...You assumed that, given some time, more people would start to be more receptive to the idea of Welling in the role that Routh won than they were BEFORE Routh won it? Particularly given the fact that subsequent exposure to Routh in the Cold Case clips, various manips, and insider reports have been nothing but encouraging?
I don't see why people WOULDN'T get fed up with self-righteous "fans" claiming they will boycott the movie because their choice isn't the star. Please, people, a physically-appropriate actor with a respect for the character is not going to hurt this movie in the SLIGHTEST. It's just asinine narrow-mindedness why some people REFUSE to accept another actor in the role when they cannot even make a compelling argument for WHY Tom Welling should be Superman. Because he already plays a young version of the character on a TV show? There is nothing definitive or benchmark about Welling's portrayal OR the show in general, nor is there any reason why the show should be connected to the movie. Sure they've done some things well and different, but that is at LEAST balanced by the mistakes and cliches. Besides, no reason to disrespect the Superman character to the point of making him a TV-spinoff character.
Smallville and Tom Welling have no bearing on Bryan Singer's Superman. Least of all in terms of ticket sales. People will go see the movie in droves so long as it 1.) has a compelling story, and 2.) is entertaining. I'd go so far as to make a blind bet that it will succeed in both those areas.
If you want to see SHAZAM!'s Superman, or if I want to see Zo's Superman, or if Joey Finkleberry wants to see Joey Finkleberry's Superman, then I encourage you (or me or Joey) to pursue screenwriting, filmmaking, comic book writing, etc. and translate your vision. Exorcise the demons. If you want to see a modern, differentiated and entertaining take on Clark Kent as a teenager, go enjoy Smallville. I know I do. And if you want to see a professional and respected filmmaking team's take on Superman and be entertained, then wait a year and a half and go watch that big beautiful red S on Brandon Routh's chest fade in on a bigass ole screen. I know I will.

Tempers are still short despite the fact that lensing starts in a month, I have my own theories on why that is, but again it's best not to bring up other potential actors in Routh's thread, if you can help it.
I will sometimes debate still, but it depends on the sitch and who I'd be debating with....

ok, wait... Sage, I can understand how you didn't agree with the
previous comparison between Routh and Welling due to the fact
that the poster chose a weak Welling photo.
But you can't honestly say that this photo is a better likeness of TW
and therefore more acurately depicts what Welling would have looked
like in the super-suit.
In this photo, TW has undergone such extensive manipulation that it
looks more like Christopher Reeve than it does like himself. If anything,
this is the 'worst' photo you could choose to show as TW because
it is so misleading. He'll never look like that no matter how much he
works out. Unless of course the entire budget is going towards
reconstructing the size and shape of TW's head to make him look more
like Superman.
Anyhow, TW ain't superman, he never will be, c'est la vie.

Routh will be the big screen Supes,
just like everyone sees Reeve as the Ultimate Superman,
the new generation will view Routh the same!
is it that bad to be known as superman? In my mind, Reeve WAS a Superman, on screen and off screen,
and Routh will also be one in years to come,

fact this movie won't beat spiderman. it just has too much going against it
fact Routh will never be immortalized as superman, not when reeve passed away less than a year and half of the movies premire.

Well, since he was the one who turned the roles down, I'd imagine he contributed to the outcome of his own career, no?

Reeve wanted to be in roles opposite of anything like Superman. He wanted to do strange films in fear of typecasting. He later admitted that maybe it was a mistake on his part that he had such an adverse reaction to the types of roles he was offered after Superman.

Ok, I'm not a huge Schmelling fan, but I have to address some of your points. You're right - many times Schmellign doesn't look like Superman. He does have features which aren't traditionally drawn on Superman (I stress drawn, because that's what Superman is - a drawing - how can anyone look identical to a sketch of a fictional character?)
But Routh is in the same boat. Routh doesn't look exactly like Superman either, from the pictures we've seen. You see, that's where costume designers, trainers, makeup and artists come into play.
Routh is putting on pounds of muscle to make him have more of Superman's physique. I'm sure he'll meet up with a hair stylist at some point which will crop that mane of his and give him the signature curl.
Bottom line - BOTH Routh and Welling need changes made to themselves physically in order to look more like Superman. You can argue all day long that Welling doesn't look like Superman, but at the end of the day, neither does Routh until they are groomed. If you put them in the proper attire, with the proper physique and the proper style, they BOTH look like Superman.

The square jaw mind you definatly.
But Routh has still big lips, especially his lower one, and a big nose and very wide eyed, Superman is not wide eyed.
But he does look more like Superman then Welling. It is only because Welling has become accepted so much by being on Smallville for so long. If they had cast Routh on Smallville then he would be far more accepted as well. I remember when I first saw the pic of Routh when he was cast I though 'I could see him being cast in Smallville too' but we got Welling there, and he suits the role and we have just grown acustom to his face, hehe.
But he is not Superman. Although I'm sure he could be made to look alot older, he would still not look as good as Superman, IMO, and he most definately could not pull it off acting wise. Although his acting has improved andprobably will continue to he is not that great.
I don't know how good or bad Routh is mind you, but I DO know that Welling is not good enough.

Nobody thinks Routh is a great actor. I mean, come on, it's not like anyone was petitioning the guy for the role, much less had anyone even heard of him before. It's impossible to judge his acting, because we haven't seen him deliver more than, what, 10 lines of dialogue? However, we all just want to give him a chance to prove himself before writing him off, simply because he IS in the role, it's his, no questions about it, and just by that fact, he's key to the movie's success. And ultimately, we'd all like to see this movie break every kind of record (which no one can say it won't, seeing as we have NO reliable info...not even a correct WB press release!...on the film's content yet). Why do we all want to jump on the bandwagon? I agree with you completely, Zo.
Unfortunately, the people taking a consistently negative view towards the film aren't going to see it that way. Usually it's because (a) they didn't get their choice for Superman and will complain bitterly until the film is released, or (b) from what little they've heard, these people are convinced that the movie is going to be a disaster. Anyone who suggests that it's best to wait, or that the people who are consistently griping about the movie are simply being pessimistic to the point of headache-inducing repitition, is called "narrow minded" or told to "shut up." On the flip side, there's also been a lot of Tom Welling bashing going around, when quite honestly it's a dead subject and shouldn't be used to start flame wars in this thread (that goes for all parties on both sides).
Look, I have no idea what this movie is going to be like. I know that I love the original "Superman: The Movie." I love the character. And he's been out of sight for too long. I'm staying positive that the movie will be a fun and sweeping moviegoing experience that will hopefully make us all feel like kids again, even if it's just for two hours.
As Zo says, there's nothing wrong with that.
Keep your collective chins up. Singer is a good director, and his writers are quite capable.
As for Brandon Routh -- again, there's no way of telling what he'll be like. We've heard that he loves the character (Spacey), that he's been working out like a demon and has a ripped body (Batgirl), and that he gave a great series of auditions. Again, I'm going to do the smart thing here -- and I guess it comes down to three little words:
Wait and see.
If the movie comes out and you hate it, then you can let loose with all the cannons firing. But until then, give it a rest.

I'll certainly agree that there is a lot of narrow-mindedness on these boards--from both camps. A chunk of the Routh supporters have already branded him as the ultimate Superman of all-time, and those against him constantly conjure up thin reasons as to why he'll be the lamest person to ever be on screen in the history of the universe.
That said, what drives me nuts is that the negative people treat the positive people like sheep, and the positive people treat the negative people like trolls. You know--and this might come as a shock--both camps have valid points, so everybody needs to quit moaning about it. Debate is fine, but in here it always degenerates into mud-slinging.

No. There's a huge difference there, because Christian Bale is an experienced actor, whose acting can be viewed in a slew of roles and a slew of films. We've even seen him act in roles that are somewhat Batman-esque (John Preston, anyone?). Moreover, we've seen him as Bruce Wayne and as Batman in both pictures AND footage. You see, there is reasonable basis for people to make assumptions about Bale's performance.
Routh, however, has only been seen in old pictures and miniscule parts that provide little opportunity for him to demonstrate anything we can judge. As such, it's silly to say "Routh will kick ass" or "Routh will suck" because there's simply no information to base that on. With Christian Bale, that is not the case.
And in any case, I don't see how the bat-fan opinion of Christian Bale has anything to do with the Super-fan opinion of Routh.

I hate the idea of Routh, and I cringed at the idea of Welling (Thank G-d we dodged that bullet, among many others…Smallvillians need to face the fact that he’s a crap actor), but I've decided to put my feelings aside and SUPPORT THE HELL out of this movie. This is SUPERMAN, not a movie about Routh [or another name you please] and it's about a character I LOVE, and have done so unrelentingly since I was three. Yeah, Spider-man was OK, so were the X-men and Batman, but they all PALE in comparison to my Superman - always and forever! I know this movie will score HUGE, it’s Superman! He's etched in the worlds' consciousness, unlike any other. June 30, 2006...a man with clouds between his knees…It’s about time! I say bring of the X-men or any other would be stooge, just bring it.
We have great actors, a determined production company and a studio that’s been wanting this time in history for a long time!

Passing by and thought I'd mention something you guys might be interested in....
I showed a girl (who obviously isn't a comix-nut, but like everyone else in the world, she has a sub-conscious idea of what the general superman looks like) the pic of brandon routh standing against that grey wall (in the official press release on this website). She replied, "Woah! If Superman was real, that's what he'd look like."
So I think that's a VERY good sign of the public's reaction to routh. Let me know what you think :supes:
EDIT: sorry, if I can truly recall the quote, it was "that's REALLY what he'd look like"

We should all hope this movie does well for Superman's sake above all else. Even though I find myself having doubts, I still hope it scores well. The character has been shat upon for long enough, a popular move along with an already popular TV series would be welcomed

Well done.
Not because anyone thinks Singer is the second coming of Orson Welles or Stanley Kubrick...But because - dammit - the public needs a good dose of Superman again! It's been long enough!
I ask you, all the people who complain about "narrow-mindedness" in this forum...Is that so wrong?
 hope everybody can understand it.

'Maarten' says the Superman cast is starting to arrive for filming:
Got some information from the MX newspaper here in Melbourne, dated February 11th, and I thought you might be interested;
"US Actor Kate Bosworth, tipped to play Lois Lane in the new Superman flick, has flown into Sydney.
Filming is not due to start until next month so it seems Bosworth has some R&R planned."
Stay tuned for lots more on the production.

Well keeping the whole mom thing out of it. I guess it could be a way that gerneration could view the film. I certainly have had mixed feelings from people that are in that age range. I could see some reluctance in accepting anyone other than Reeve in the role. But that is a problem that the film will face no matter what.

cause our moms represent the fans that made Chirs Reeve an icon , our moms were those females who went crazy for Reeve as superman. Hence its good to get reviews from the older generations escpecially if singer's superman is in touch with the original superman.

I assume that when people are comparing Routh and Reeve, they're comparing their "unknownness."
Not even that is alike... Routh had done like four or five things and maybe ten people knew who he was.
Reeves had been a working pro actor in the best known summer rep company (Williamsport Theatre Fest) in the country since the age of 16...
He was a working and well respected actor since he was a teen. So, maybe he hadn't done much TV and only that one bit part in Gray Lady Down, but he was far more known in some circles than Routh was...
What had Routh done: a soap, a few bit parts and a local dinner theatre?
Not even in the same league.
:sigh:
Oh, I give up.
Believe what you want, but they are nothing alike, except in general appearance.

Not in the East Coast theatre circles anyway. He was on broadway and worked steadily as a pro actor.
I'm not dissing Routh, but I think it's disrepectful of Reeve to lump him in with Routh as just another "unknown"...
Maybe he wasn't well known outside New York, but he wasn't an unknown.

For all of Reeve's acting background, he landed a soap and a bit part in a film before landing Superman. (I assume he did these plays and what-not before getting actual tv/film gigs.)
For Routh's less-than-Julliardian background, he landed a soap, some tv spots, and a bit part in a film before landing Superman.
That's how I look at this. That's what I see when I look at their filmographies. Although their acting backgrounds are different, the jobs they landed because of those backgrounds are eeriely similar.

Yeah, I can see that but their acting backgrounds are world's apart and even though Chris was "relatively unknown" he had a fairly high profile in certain circles.
I'm not sure the same could be said of Routh. Maybe he had a relatively high profile among casting directors, it probably took quite a bit of work for him to get the parts he did, and soap fans prolly loved him.
But he still isn't in the same league acting wise as Reeve.
Not to say he's not talented, I'm not trying to diss him, but Reeve had a serious and very impressive acting CV which Routh does not have.
