i didnt think the deltoid (sp) looked correct on the batman wip that he was making, it looked to comic bookish, if it was drawn more realisticaly it would make the pic look better. and the phoenix pic: her left leg's thigh seems too thin and if someone's arm is as thick as their leg it just looks weird. and the solid snake face looks awkward, but thats a sketch so its pointless to break it apart with criticism.

and for you 2 year-olds i was joking about the phd in anatomy. i actually have a phd in nuclear physics. and i can also fly.

I wouldn't bother arguing with DJ: his first post made it clear that he has some sort of personal vendetta going on against DorkyFresh, and this actually has nothing to do with the art at all. Most probably, he's jealous because DF is simply better at figure drawing than he is (judging from his DeviantArt account).

I mean, I don't like DF either--we had several run ins on the Begins boards that didn't go so well--but I'm not going to pretend his stuff sucks because of that. His work certainly outclasses mine.

DJ just needs to grow up.

before i start...just letting ya'll know, i know how to take constructive criticism and i took notice of what you guys typed and i'm not saying i'm right or you guys are wrong, i'm just giving my reasons why i made the design the way i did. :)



about the cape attachment...i didn't want something that looks like he just tucked it in. i love the way Donner's Superman has his cape attached, but i wanted something different...something that would convey Superman's SUPERness and that's when i remembered sketch of Kirk Alyn's Superman (you're exactly right, Wushuboy). the artist drew the cape attachment in such a way that it looked almost like a uniform and that's what i wanted Supes' costume to look like....a Kryptonian/alien uniform. i'll make another drawing, later, to show you what i mean.

i have to disagree about Superman without red underwear....there have been redesigns out there that get rid of the undies while still keeping the Superman LOOK. i don't think any design will ever replace the underwear, but i think Superman is still Superman if he forgets his undies.


well...i'd thougth about doing a cross between a Kingdom Come \s/ and the original, but when i look at the original (even the hybrid Kingdom Come/original shield) it still looks TOO much like an "s" to me. i know it's a far stretch to think an alien could look and act exactly like us, but it's even further of a fetch that they have a character in their language that happens to look like an "s" as much as the current \S/ does. my brother was looking at one day and said something that stuck in my mind. the diamond shape with one diagonal line running through it looks much more like an alien character than the original shield does...and that's why i love the idea so much, because it still looks like an "S" while making it look more alien. i know a lot of people aren't gonna like it but i'm just giving you the reason why i made the "S" look like that.


thanks and yes, i did that on purpose. i tried making the colors more dramatic but in the end....the subtlety made it look better i think.


the yellow piping was something that i had to struggle with. at first, i wasn't going to add it....but then i got to thinking about Supes' colors. i wanted Superman to look almost....royal. and red and blue alone didn't make him look much like royalty, plus...adding yellow makes him look that much more like Supes....so i added piping. admittedly it still didn't turn out as good as i'd hoped, but i think that's just because i didn't draw it right. i'll probably do another sketch. as for the cape attachment...see my reply to Wushuboy, hehe.

and i WILL post this is in the DC thread. thanks again, guys, for checkin' out my stuff (that didn't sound right, haha!)

Seriously, though . . . you have a keen attention to detail, Dorky . . . but I see one fatal flaw, because it's a flaw which I share with you . . . the inks/rendering/proportion is all GREAT . . . but you've started focusing on details before the piece is really drafted . . . this can lead to serious problems if not drafted properly . . . but like I said, I do the same thing all the time . . . . I get hung up in the detail, cuz before that, I don't really see my work "coming to life" . . . . . I would recommend finishing the other figures, and giving the characters a ground before moving forward, but also like me, you'll probably not heed my advice and continue inking anyway . . . . cuz that's the fun part! :cool:

thanks DV8, you're right...i don't wait till i'm done with the basics to start on the details. i have the basic pencils down (positions, clothing, etc) but as far as like wrinkles in the clothing and other detailing, i form them when i'm inking...which is why i can never let anyone else ink my drawings because i don't put those kind of details in until my pen it.

unfortunately, i haven't touched it in a while because it was on my old harddrive and it crashed on me. luckily, my sister sent me a copy on cd a while back so i have that copy...but it just sucks because there was a lot more work done to it on my harddrive than at the time my sister sent it to me. so i have to redo that work...

...but once i muster up the feel to touch it again, i'll definitely post more the progress.

The only big problem I see with it is the actual postion of Wolverine in regards to Sabertooth. He's crouched down at exactly crotch height. And with the way sabertooth appears to have his eyes closed or staring down at Wolverine, it's just kind of... odd.

i've come to realize that unless the suit looks 95% like the comic book version (ala Spider-Man) there will always be people who ***** about the suit/look of the respected character. most of the people *****ing about the suit in the TDK forum have all expressed that they want a more faithful Batsuit than even the one in Begins so i try to pay no mind to them. i, myself, like change...i want to see something different...not the same. i want the FEEL to be the same but not the details. as long as they got the feel of the character then the details are just filler.

as for the explaination to his new suit...someone at the batforums brought up a good point. there's gotta be a connection to why he got a new suit to go with that new bike ;)

I think Shia's hand holding the allspark as well as his other forearm look a bit wonky. I think also that megan's eyes aren't jelling with the perspective at which we're viewing her. They should follow the curve of her face a little more. Last thing is that optimus kinda looks a bit...short? I'm not sure how far back he is in the background, but based on the low angle that we're watching megan and shia run, shouldn't optimus extend a bit further up into the sky? he doesn't look more then ten feet high.

All that being said, you nailed the boobies. Which is the most important thing.

thanx for the critique starvingartist. i agree about the hand...i struggled with it a lil' bit but i think his forearm is just fine. not sure what you mean by Mikaela's eyes, but again i think they look fine. as for Prime's height...well, i couldn't exactly draw Prime too tall otherwise his chest and head would be out of frame. not sure why you think he only looks 10 foot tall...Bumblebee is right behind Mikaela, in front of Prime. nosebleed got the right idea...Prime's not fully kneeling but he's definitely got his right leg bent.

hey great work but i want some tips how you do metal look on optimus prime
i can't really explain my process very well, but all i can say is pull up a bunch of different pictures of metal from the net and try to duplicate their effect. i found that the more you put reflections and shines on an object the more metallic it looks. so if you're drawing a metal object, try to envision where the light source is and how the surrounding area would effect the look of the metal. use a lot of contrasting colors (white for the lighter reflections and shines, black for the darker reflections and shadows). a lot of the time it helps to just draw straight lines side by side in black and white. just look at metal and how it reacts to it's surroundings and try to draw what you envision metal to look like. hoped that helped a little bit. if not, then you'll just have to wait because i'm gonna try to break down my TF drawing in a couple of months and show you guys my process.

yeah...they said they were gonna make him scary, so hopefully he'll look similar. i'm pretty sure they're nixing his antennae though...
