I love the illustration.... I'm not really into that, mainly because I suck at it... but I'm in Graphic Symbolism, and mostly commercial art... I tried to learn this but I can't even draw a simple hand right....

foreal though, BGs get me too, so don't beat yourself up over it. however, if you learn to draw backgrounds as good as your subjects, then you'll definitely be on your way!

no, i'm not in any art school. in fact, i've never gone to one. i took art in high school but my teacher sucked so a lot of my skill is self taught. i attended ITT Tech for 2 years and learned how to work photoshop but they're not an art school. anywho, thanks for the kudos and what not...

and yes, i do MOST of my art in photoshop. every now and then i'll bust out the clip board and kick it old school with a pencil and eraser.

oh yeah, FF's ships are badass....specifically the ones from 7. i've never considered developing vehicles professionally. like i said, that's not my forte'. maybe one day i'll get into it, but i've always been more a character artist than a vehicle or environmental artist.

anyway, i dug up an old project of mine. it's not a drawing or illustration, but i managed to upload my final project from college for my multimedia class. the assignment was to come up with something that utilizes everything we had learned (3D, Photoshop, Video and Audio editing, and Cameras) and i decided to do a Star Wars fanflick. well, it didn't quite turn out the way i had hoped. i don't like to make excuses so let's just say we were extremely limited on manpower and resources. the idea was to have 2 Jedi land on a planet and survey the area. they eventually encounter a Sith and fight him to the death. that main premise survived, but a lot of details didn't.....so we ended up with this...

....anywho, hope it's the slightest bit entertaining. i had fun making it and i'd love to do another if i ever get the chance. btw, sorry for the crappy quality. a lot of the quality got mucked up in the converting process.

yeah i actually quite like the way i came up with the "S". i used to be a fan of no briefs, but Superman's suit just isn't complete without them imo. glad you like the way i made them though. most people don't, saying it looks too much like a jock-strap or thong :dry:

hey Wade...i've dabbled in period pieces, but i never finished any of them. the only one i really remember was a "Gladiator" drawing i did back in high school and i gave that to one of my buddies. i've done a couple of Lord of the Rings pieces, one that remains unfinished and another that i'm not too proud of honestly, hehe. thanks for checking out my work! :)

I like this. Superman's sleeves are a real problem--they just sort of end, making his outfit look like a sweater. The changes you made are small, but they really help shift the design away from that. I prefer a solution like this to your other design with the red cuffs. The legs and boots are also really sharp.

I'm not sure the seams on the chest are working, though.

I love how you mixed the shiney blue with the matte, and the yellow in the cape's pretty cool... but i think the second one is awesome. the chest seams work for me actually. the boots, the cuffs, belt the 's', all dope. it's a great update to the costume without re-inventing it.

nope, never did...just lost steam and died. if i ever revisit it, i'll probably start from scratch. the layout could've been better.

thanx X-Fan. i appreciate your compliments :) sequentials are a very interesting art form. it's more than just making pretty pictures. it's almost like storyboarding (telling a story) but you also have to design the panels to flow well.

Very nice Supes pic! There's one thing I noticed, though, and I've seen it in the last few of your pics, is that you're starting to emphasize the lower lip on the guys, and it kinda looks like they're wearing lipstick. Wolverine's face in the panels on the previous page has it too, and it's something that immediately sticks out to me. I think it may be because your faces are so expressive that anything out of the ordinary really throws me off.

I think you can get away with just that little line at the center of the lower lip to express the fact that it's there, but not so much that it outlines the lower lip. You went much lighter with it in the panels of your comic and I think that it really helps when the male characters don't have a fully defined lower lip.

keith_v, yeah i've been drawing the lower lip a lot lately...i just like the way it looks. i can see what you're saying about it looking like they're wearing lipstick though i don't necessarily agree. i guess what i'll start doing is to only draw the single line for the shadow on the lower lip for the further shots, but for the closer shots i'll draw the lower lip. that way it's a happy medium :)

:woot: The other day I read the article about a potential Batman/Superman crossover movie, and I thought how cool it would be to see them flying through Metropolis or Gotham side by side, with Bamtan in the Batwing.....so I went to google and discovered that no such image exists.

So good sir! I challenge you to create said image, full colour and detail! if it's wallpaper size, even more praises will be poured upon thee! :awesome:

Something real, but not too dark and ominous. I would really like a colorist who can present it in a real way, but be able to use the pallet to create an overall mood to each scene....plus someone who adds to the overall art in a way where you are not paying attention to the colors... Basically something that enhances without distracting.

In terms of technique, I'm somewhat open to anything. A whitewash, watercolor, etc
