The more I think about this rumor, the more plausible it gets, but that might just be my wishful thinking. Bruce Willis - Unbreakable & Sin City - possibly a comic book fan *ahem* and might be familiar with SV. Was on That 70's Show and probably knows Ashton CBTD Kutcher... I dunno. I'm trying not to get too excited. Every time I do, somebody pops my bubble. :(
He knows Ashton, of course, Pat. He's married to Demi and they've been known to vacation with Bruce and the girls together... It's even been reported that Bruce and Ashton like each other a great deal.

Another thing I realized after logging off last night, Die Hard is a 20thCF franchise. Welling already has a working relationship with that studio.
But y'know what? I'm gonna stop thinking about this now 'cause ONE site with potentially erroneous information is not enough to hang my hat on. That, and, I question whether Tom would even have enough time to do a film of that size. He said he shot The Fog "in a fog" (LOL), mostly at night because he was still working on SV, and that the CBtD2 folks only had him for 10 days. Principal on a Die Hard film would take upwards of two months if not more - and the LAST DH film was shot in NY, not Canada. We probably should put this rumor to bed until something more definitive is discovered or announced.
Tom in Die Hard would be WAAY better than that homo Justin Timberlake. I duno why he was considered.
Ashton teamed with Willis in the movie though would create some interesting buzz/controversy.

Well, you've made some good points... Tom doesn't have much free time built into his schedule so doing this film would be a hard thing for him to do.
I hope it works out but it's probably just a rumor at this point.

I do not care for the description of Justin Timberlake that you have used. I think its inappropriate in a public forum.

Die Hard 4 has been in pre-production for so long that they've probably considered pretty much every actor you care to name, Tom included! It's Fox. That's good. Bruce and Tom have more than a few friends in common, so I have little doubt that they know one another. That's also good.
So it IS plausible. But don't get those hopes up too high just yet. (Poor Pat. :()

What the...
Okay, that Die Hard 4 rumor has serious wings (pun intended). It's currently propagating through the Net like wildfire. This reminds me of Muscles' 15 minutes of fame last year with his SR "scoop." ;)
Can somebody (Hulk?! :p anybody?) PLEASE debunk this rumor before I have an aneurysm? Or better yet, CONFIRM the bloody thing so I can die happy. Heh. Get it? Die happy? *giggle* I kill myself. LOL
LOL I may not be much help unless someone dies or gets married in the next few months. Other than that I know as much as you...probably less :)
As for the age thing, that seems fairly accurate from stories I've heard.

Vote for Tom.. that 6% is pathetic. Even if these things are stupid.. there's a principle involved here. A Tom principle. :)

Go Wentworth. Black power...well sorta. Actually Im not black, just wanted to say that.
OK I voted but it's not fair to put him agaisnt actors from much higher rated shows. Besides we know he's hot I hope he starts getting recognized for being a good actor.
Looks are in the eyes of the beholder. Personally I dont find Wentworth attractive at all. Sure he can play intense (which is part of his uniqueness) and a really good actor.... but when he grows out his hair, he looks like sideshow bob.

Did you get to see the special I think it was their 2000 show special. Anyway they did all these little snippets of their favorites. I didn't see Tom. I was just wondering if someone else might have seen it. They did it all week and I only caught a couple of them so they may have shown him, but they mostly focused on the really big stars like blech! that other Tom guy.

I saw this over on DTTW....I know shame on me, but it was just too sweet not to share.
Here’s the quote from Marsters: “I’m ashamed to admit this, but Tom is a lot more intelligent than I was prepared for. It is the same prejudice with people that are that good-looking, which is I have to be smarter than them. It was wonderful to find Tom is smart, well-read, and funny. We’ve had wonderful conversations about acting, politics, and religion”.
It's from the new Smallville magazine.

I guess living in L.A for 5 years made me hyper sensitive to flaky girls, lol. They make me cringe now. She seems nice, but you know, I just stopped being interested after that, but I do like her enthusiasm, and she fits in well with what seems to be a nice friendly cast.

There's an honesty to his face, I think. I don't mean metaphoric (though there's that too). What I mean is, his look isn't a facade. We know they cake him with make-up, but it's really only done to de-age him slightly - smooth out the pores, cover up the blemishes, stuff like that. I see a hint of copper eye shadow and lip color in that cap. There's a barely perceptible line under the eyes. Could be eye liner, could be natural. I can't really tell. And of course the mop is tamed. LOL So my point is, other than losing the age battle, the make-up folks aren't trying to change him. Pretty much, WYSIWYG: That's HIM. Preternaturally large and striking, translucent blue/green eyes, expressive and emotionally tender eyebrows, high cheek bones and no harsh or weathered features to elicit feelings of dishonesty or vague intentions. Welling was blessed with a naturally guileless look and young, innocent face. In other words, he's...

Kreuk aptly summed it up once, and I don't think anybody has ever topped the simplicity of her statement: "he's freakishly good looking." I think a lot has to do with the his eyes, which can be highly expressive.
http://www.patcostello.com/temp/solitude.jpg
Take the last episode, for example. Welling knows how to use his eyes to convey just the right feeling in context with the scene. Subtlety is definitely one of his fortes.

link me :up:I think she said it a few different times. One was in a radio interview. You can read the transcript Here (http://www.allstarz.org/~kristinkreuk/articles18.htm).
The other one was from Kristin's first day on the set, though I don't know which publication it was originally printed in - or if it was a recorded interview for that matter. In any case, James has the transcript reprinted on his site - in an annoyingly blinking text  :p - so I'll just cut and paste it here to spare you your eyes LOL...
Kristin about her first day on the set meeting Tom: "I remember I was really shy and tongue-tied. He’s quite stunning in person and was so cool with his stubble and ripped jeans; he looked like a model. Our chemistry was great, and that made me really excited to play this character."
"Tom is beautiful. He is. He is freakishly good-looking!"
"My kind of guy? My boyfriend! I like sweet guys, nice, reassuring, and with dark hair. I'm not attracted to ''bad boys.'' I need to be charmed and impressed. Tom Welling absolutely corresponds to that profile, but he is a friend and moreover he is married. Anyway, I have to admit he is very cute."

LOL!!! Leave it to James.
That's just awesome. (It's the small things in life, doncha know? LOL)
Hee! Look up. :D
I think she said it a few different times.
I just love reading this sort of stuff. :)
I really enjoyed the little article by James Marsters in the latest Smallville Mag. His comments on Tom were amusing and entertaining.
I agree it was so honest I have suspected forever that people think Tom is kinda a himbo and he faced a certain predjudice because of that. The same thing that has opened doors has made him have to work alot harder to be respected. That's one reason I'm glad he's doing things like directing an episode.

James posted an item on a French language web site who had an interview with Glen Winter. He suggested using Babblefish to translate it, which didn't work all that well I found, but here's the interview for those of you interested in it:
http://planete-smallville.com/dossier/itw_winter.php
Here's what James posted about the interview:
Glen has some nice things to say about working with Tom; however he also mentions that during the filming of ‘Cyborg’, Tom fell quite seriously ill for the first time in five years of shooting the show:
”During the filming of ‘Cyborg’, Tom Welling fell sick for the first time in five years and we had to stop filming for four days. Because Tom couldn’t work we all had four days off. Tom felt very bad about being sick for the first time in five seasons while I shot my first episode, and I had to say to him: ‘Don’t worry about it, it’s important that you get better.’”
Glen also mentions the usual things, such as Tom working longer hours than the rest of the cast, and still being the same person he was when the show started five years ago. However, of particular interest to me is that as Smallville’s director of photography, Glen notes that his very next task after completing ‘Cyborg’ was helping Tom to prepare for his own directorial debut.

Do we have a general music video type thread here? If not, we should. LOL
I was perusing YouTube this morning, and MAN... there's quite a lot of SV videos there. Mixed in with the ton of shipper vids, trailers, bloopers, scene excerpts and fully-ripped episodes was this one...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqG71SGHROk
It caught my eye because it was so... um... different. It's 3:15 minutes long and set to the song "Some Kind of Monster" by Metallica. It's a perspective of what Clark would have been like if he became evil instead of good.
I'm telling you guys, we NEED a "Mirror, Mirror" episode of SV. A parallel universe or dream episode where Lex is the good guy and Clark is evil. I think it would be a lot of fun for both the cast and the audience. :D

I don't know if this has been posted elsewhere. If so, I apologize in advance.
Anyway, the latest ish of Sci Fi Channel's Newsletter has a nice interview w/ Welling and Schneider. It's nothing we haven't already heard. Though I thought this bit with TW commenting on a major summer blockbuster would pique a few people's interest:
As you know, Superman Returns will be coming out in theaters this summer. Do you see that as having any impact on the show?
Welling: I wish I had a better answer than "I don't know." [Laughs.] I really don't. We'll have to see what happens. I mean, from what I understand, it's a very huge project. There's everything behind it. It's got everything going for it. We'll have to see.
Not exactly a ringing endorsement, is it?

Welling's definitely a big man, no doubt about it, but he's not Ahhhnuld sized. LOL His improved physique over the last four years is undoubtedly due to improved instruction and increased training for his SV character. How much spill-over there was in preparation for the film role is debatable, but he could probably step into the role right now and be fine. An interesting advantage.
Sage, you kill me. ;) I *know* what you meant, but Welling already IS a "full fledged" actor. It's not like he's been kicked off a soap opera or something, y'know?

Anyway, to get back on topic... AYE FREAKIN' GAIN... Welling was recently quoted about his opportunity to direct a SV episode, and he mentioned wanting to do the SV series finale. Here's what he said:
"I wanted to direct a season finale. I actually wanted the series finale, but they didn't buy that one. But who knows? I figure if everyone in the world watches my episode, then I might have a shot."Now, I *thought* he was joking. But I'm starting to wonder if there wasn't some actual desire there. As I've recently come to learn, John Schneider actually directed the series finale for The Dukes of Hazzard, and that was with ZERO directing experience at the time. Interesting.
This might not be a pipe dream for Welling after all. http://www.patcostello.com/smileys/ponder.gif

Okay, shots for maniping purposes, or just as a guide to his physique for maniping like Zing does? ahhh... the smaller size made me thought that was a behind the scenes shot of him in the Barn with nail marks but WITHOUT the bloodThere were quite a few publicity photos released from that act in Spell. Depending on the scene (before or after Chloe scratches him) some photos will have more "blood." In the composite I put together, it was before the scratches (but after he was tossed around a bit), so he had a bloody lip and a few bruises on his face.
Here's the largest pic I have of that scene with him standing next to Jason:
1502x1002 (http://www.patcostello.com/temp/spell2b.jpg)
There will probably be a nice selection of photos (screen caps and hopefully a few promos) that will come out of Hypnotic. Given the spoilers, it sounds like it has the potential to be another one of those love-em/hate-em episodes. Clark Kent the sex slave? Oh, baybeeee... sign me up. LOL
As to more shirtless shots from the ole archives, well, the further back you go, the leaner he tends to look. Now that's not necessarily bad mind you, but I think a properly airbrushed Superman suit would look better on this:

But that's JMHO. He's not THAT much different, but you can see he's beefed up his neck and traps a bit. Welling's not entering any body building contests, so he just needs to be big and bulky, and jeeze louise, he IS! LOL

As to more shirtless shots from the ole archives, well, the further back you go, the leaner he tends to look. Now that's not necessarily bad mind you, but I think a properly airbrushed Superman suit would look better on this:

Or you could just tell me what software you plan to buy, and we'll skip the software store phase of the plan.I wish I knew which one. I was just going to go into the store and ask for a software package that will allow me to do nice BIG screen captures from my computer's DVD player. The DVD playback software that I currently have bypasses the memory buffer on the video display board, so I can't use any "conventional" screen cap proggies unless I go analog from an external DVD player, and that's not nearly as good. You want something BIG and high res, yes? The only way to get that is to cap it right off the DVD, direct to digital. But I'm not even sure I can do it with my current video display. :(

Why not just do as I suggested and try to adjust your security settings? I block hotlinking because bandwidth is pretty expensive, but if your security settings are too high it can cause everything to be blocked. It's one of the unfortunate problems that nobody has yet figured out how to resolve ...
If you adjust the settings everything on the site should show up perfectly and you'll never need to bother anyone about it again.

I started subscribing to HDNet around Christmas time, and Smallville is on every day at 12.00 with Season 4 episodes airing every Monday at 8.00 You wouldnt believe the quality that you get with that, so much better than DVD. I honestly cant believe how good it is.
Forever was on last night and you remember the scene where Clark is signing the year book for the girl at the Talon. Well I've never been able to make out his signature before but on HD Net, you can see it as clear as day. Its really wonderful.

Looking at those last four just makes you realise how vulnerable Clark can be. I like that aspect of his character and Tom does such a great job of portraying it.
I think that that was what I was looking for when Chloe found out about him, and I hoped that they would be able to expose that side of him a bit more.
But I havent really seen it, and I was just thinking that Lana would bring that out him and why I probably so desperately want her to find out.

Looking at those last four just makes you realize how vulnerable Clark can be. I like that aspect of his character and Tom does such a great job of portraying it.I agree. He pulls off the anguish well and makes it very believable. Acting out physical pain is difficult when you're just standing there and the director shouts, "okay, NOW, you're in pain. Drop to the floor," or something like that. But in those scenes from Unsafe, there's an internal pain that has to be emoted without making it look like you're frustrated. That can be even harder to express. It's a fine line and very nuanced. And it's NOT over-the-top. It's the kind of acting that shouldn't be obvious as "acting." Hard to explain. The audience has to know that the wheels are turning without actually seeing them move. Y'know?
I think that that was what I was looking for when Chloe found out about him, and I hoped that they would be able to expose that side of him a bit more.In general or are you talking specifically? They sort of touched on his concern with Pete, so I'm wondering if doing the same with Chloe wouldn't seem more like a rehash?
But you do make a valid point on another level. Clark is over concerned about Lana knowing because, in his words, "there's always gonna be someone trying to find out about me and as long as we're together, they're gonna be watching her every move." Well scheeeeeit, Clark. What's Chloe, chopped liver? LOL He hangs around Chloe as much as he does Lana.
But I haven't really seen it, and I was just thinking that Lana would bring that out him and why I probably so desperately want her to find out.Yeah, I'm sure she will. Eventually. Probably won't be till the end of the show though, especially considering the events of Reckoning.

I've always said Tom Welling is a natural actor. He becomes the character that he is acting and that's why he can make those scenes so believable. He doesnt pull any strategies out of the acting pot to enable him to do what he does.
In general or are you talking specifically? They sort of touched on his concern with Pete, so I'm wondering if doing the same with Chloe wouldn't seem more like a rehash?
Its not quite what I meant.
I know we've seen him go to Chloe for advice on several occasions throughout the season, but its all been very rationale. She puts his mind at ease with logic.
I want to see him having the emotions and thoughts that he feels and resolving them with some emotion.
I guess I'm not making much sense?

I think his justification with that is that Chloe found out by herself, so that puts the responsibility on her. Not that he doesnt care for her welfare as much.
With Lana he put that responsibility on her and she suffered for it, that's why he felt the guilt.
Yeah, I'm sure she will. Eventually. Probably won't be till the end of the show though, especially considering the events of Reckoning.
Actually I disagree. I think Lana's arc for this entire season has been building up to her finding out about Clark herself. Reckoning was a teaser.
Why did they have Lana see the ship and the Kryptonians? Why have her working on the meteor showers etc? The only conclusion that can come from it is that it all relates back to Clark.
They may not tie everything together the way people want, (stones, Isobel) but they always conclude the arc.
Time will tell I guess. ;)

Yeah, something like that. I like seeing emotional Clark but I also like to see the other characters help him deal with it. I think Lana is the only character who is going to be able to give him the responses that I want to see.

I think that's what its all building up to. Once Lana breaks up with Lex the only logical thing that is left for her character is to help Clark towards his destiny, as a friend. I believe a couple of seasons of that would work really well.

Nicely put, avid. It's always kind of bothered me that, on the surface, it could be interpreted that he's not as concerned about Chloe's welfare because he's okay with her knowing about him, but panic-stricken at the idea of Lana knowing. But we all know that he's just as concerned for both of them. He couldn't prevent Chloe from knowing, but he can Lana.

Oh man...
*checking calendar*
Gah.. it's a Monday? That weekend is "Mom's Weekend" at my son's college. Probably shouldn't blow that off for Tom-Watching. :D Although my son is a big SV fan, and he knows his wacky mother, he'd probably understand! LOL...
Still..that's over on Sunday.. Hmmm.
Nah, probably cutting it too close. You'll just have to go and cheer him on yourself. Try not to get arrested. Although, if it's for a good cause, I'll happily contribute to your legal fees. ;)

That street scene from Void got a mention over on Vancouver24hrs...
The star of the long-running hit series Smallville recently proved he didn't need the help of a stunt double while shooting on location downtown near Robson and Homer.
Tom Welling, who plays a young Clark Kent in the series, performed several stunts himself, even walking on a wire for one scene. Welling was caught on film by paparazzi during a break in shooting near the library.
The 100th episode of Smallville recently received good ratings south of the border. Cast and crew will continue shooting season five until the end of April.

Gosh.. what would I spend to play golf with Tom. That's a little scary.
As an aside.. do you realize how many reeeally funny metaphors can be made with golf terms? It's true. But Cindy and I will just keep those in IMs so we won't offend any delicate sensibilities. ;) :D

I don't think Brad's ugly.. but he doesn't hold a candle to our Mr. Welling. Not even a votive. :D
I remember when Brad first started showing up on my radar. He was adorable in Thelma and Louise. Now that was a great first role. He wasn't the lead, but it was a hugely memorable role for any woman who saw that movie. I think Brad has had extremely good movie-choosing advice steering his career. Roles like Kalifornia, Se7en, Fight Club, Twelve Monkeys, Snatch.. took him well outside "pretty boy" roles and gave him a bit more cred. He still had his Legends of the Fall, and Meet Joe Black-type roles that showcased his good looks though.
So.. Tom, call Brad. :)

Personality after his behaviour over the last 18 months? Very ugly.I'm out of the loop on that one. I don't follow celebrity gossip at ALL, unless it comes under my radar in forums like this. I'm lucky I "get" the Tom Cruise Scientology jokes. Honestly. Consider me as living under a rock when it comes to what celeb said what, who they're dating, who they're divorcing, etc. etc.

I think his marriage had already basically ended by that time, in his defence. And what he has with Angelina wasn't just an 'adulterous fling' I think it was probably more meaningful than people think. I mean, they have adopted a kid and having a kid of their own together. It seems quite special.
I still think it's wrong though. I'm just playing devil's advocate. As long as Jen had that ring on her finger and they were still 'together' it was WRONG!
