Either way, green, blue, hazel, blue-green, grey-green, etc. Tom's eyes are beautiful!!!

Yes, they are!

Thanks for posting this, Pat. Maybe it's just me but I still see green eyes even in the first panel. Two, maybe three, of those could pass for blue (the ones with the pinkest skin tone) but the rest look green to me. Is this a big deal to some? Green eyes are a lot closer to blue than brown, if you know what I mean. :cwink:

Either way, green, blue, hazel, blue-green, grey-green, etc. Tom's eyes are beautiful!!! :heart:Oh, they're definitely green - and I LIKE them just the way they are. :D

I wouldn't want to see make-up try to change his eye color (either through contacts or CGI in post) for Superman. I'd rather Superman's eyes look "alien" because they're preternaturally beautiful, not because they're freakishly unnatural. There's a soul to the eyes that you want to stare into - not avoid...

Oh crap, I'm probably not making any sense. Maybe I should just say I like his eyes. Full stop. Don't fix 'em; they aint broke. :O

I have to say (and I'm not bragging at all--it can't be helped for the story) when I saw them up close I stared because they didn't look green or blue or anything, there were elements of both and flecks of gold in them, and they were gorgeous so I made a fool of myself standing there trying to decipher his eye color, lol.

Quoted for truth!

And I think you're making sense...

But then again, I just might be as crazy as you.

But if being crazy about Tom is a bad thing, I don't care.

I have a distince feeling that if any of you ladies got see Tom's eyes up close i dont think you girls would live to tell the tale.

"Hey what happened to Trip and Pat?"
"Well they met Tom the other day and both of them got their chance to look deep into his eyes, and well Trip had a heart attack and Pat's brain hemorraged. They were pronounced dead at the scene." We are all upset over their loss but we find comfort in the fact that they died happy :) lol

Actually, I'm on my lunch break so maybe I can get the general sitch but probably not the details...

It's not like you haven't told me about the meeting enough times, but my memory ain't what it was...

Anyway, as I remember Mel was with a friend at a drug store (I believe) in LA and she and her friend (a big Smallville fan) get behind Tom at the check-out...

Her friend knew who he was, but not Mel (not yet) and but of course she knew the quality just by looking at him.

Her friend was bold enough to start a conversation and Mel admitted she'd never seen the show. I believe Tom made some remark about Mel having to give the show a try...

She's told me a time or two that his awesomeness is bigger than he looks on TV and more handsome, although I find that hard to believe.

I mean, how can he be any bigger and more handsome than he looks on TV? He looks ginormous on TV, even with the girls standing on boxes, and he's about the best looking guy I've ever seen on TV.

How can he possibly look better than that in person?

It's not humanly possible, but that just might prove that he isn't (in fact) human.

Thanks so much Trip!

I have heard that very thing before, that, believe it or not, he's knockout gorgeous in person and much taller than you'd think. Like he towers over everyone. I know they try to shoot him in angles that don't show that but ocasionally you can even see it on the show.

Melly, at your convenience, if there's anything more to add I'd love to hear it. Talk about being in the right place at the right time!!! I wish! :woot: That would of been me over a year ago. I wouldn't have known him then but I'm sure I would have noticed!!! He's definitely the best looking man I have ever seen. And he just keeps getting better!!!

And, thanks RakuMon for the pic. They had to have Tom in mind for that. :yay:

Thanks:) Things slowed down for a little bit....it was at the Rite Aid on Sunset in L.A across from my home. I'd never seen Smallville, he was in town filming CBTD (I guess) it was summer after Season 2. I thought he was the most beautiful person I had ever seen, seriously, couldn't believe it. He was very tall. My friend is a chatter box so she talked to him, he was very polite and I was amazed at how unaffected he seemed, thats the first word that came to mind. He asked if I watched the show (probably because my freaky ass was staring at him!) and I said " No but I will now!" and he smiled and chuckled a little and blushed, which killed me. He was wearing a baseball cap, can't remember if it was the infamous one or not, a tee and jeans that were a little tattered, and sandals. I thought he was about 21 or so when I saw him, and I know people who've seen him since, recently even, that say he looks younger in person, I tend to agree. So thanks Trip and hope that helps:)

To compare, I met Michael on the set of Sorority Boys (friend was script supervisor, other friend had crush on Barry Watson, boring story)and didn't realize I'd met him untl I'd been watching the show for about 3 months:)

I think that's what I love about him too Twistim. I mean sure he's good looking, good looking as in God's Gift To Women Good Looking, :woot: but its his charisma and just how grounded in reality he is, that makes him so appealing.

Its rather ironic though, because those appealing qualities about him make you want to know more about him and live in hope that we'll get to see his face pasted on the front of every magazine cover at the Supermarket Checkout, but if we had all that available to us, then he wouldnt be this person that appeals to us so much. :hyper:

Hair products:) lol. I used to see quite a few celebrities at that Rite Aid, not sure if it was because of its location, across from Bristol Farms and on the corner of Sunset and Fairfax, I have no idea why that one seemed to be popular, lol, maybe because of its proximity to the hills?. I used to see alot at the Griddle too, where'd I have breakfast on weekends, which was right next door.

Oh and I didn't start watching the show like I promised, lol. It wasn't until I happened to be at The Grove (outdoor shopping mall in Los Angeles) where they were doing a premier event for Smallville and Angel and saw Exile on the big screen did I really start watching.

That's a great story, Melly.

I don't know what I'd do if I ever met Tom. I think my number one priority would be to try and not gush like a fool. I'm sure he gets that all the time. I'd like to be composed enough to sincerely let him know how much I've appreciated his work and what it's meant to me personally. Since it's doubtful I'll ever meet him personally, I am actually going to write to him, and Kristin, and tell them that way.

I bet after the initial shock wore off (mine), he'd be a pretty easy going guy to talk to. At least he always seems that way in interviews.

What a fun story, Melly! :-> I sure haven't met him or anyone else from the show. If I did, I'd probably either say something stupid (like, incomprehensibly so) or just "hi" or just sort of peek without trying to look like I was watching. It's definitely nice to hear that he doesn't come across as a smooth, jaded type - that would be a downer.

Ok first off he's a clone of Superman (A some what version on Conner Kent / Superboy / Kon-EL) The reason his eyes are Green is because of Green Kryptonite . The Robot K3NT found a piece of superman's hair and mixed his DNA with Kryptonite, creating a Superman clone that was immune to kryptonite radiation and so Kell-El / superman x was born .

Usually when sups has green eyes in the cartoons or comics, it means he's under a some form of Green Kryptonite mind control .

Are you saying that they should change Tom's eye color if he were cast as Superman?

I don't know about you, but contacts don't look real. Routh's eyes just looked creepy to me in SR. They had thought to put in contacts on Daniel Radcliff since his very blue eyes weren't Harry Potter green, but they didn't because Dan (at 11) couldn't stand the feel of them. They then wanted to use CGI on his eyes to turn them green after the fact but that didn't test well...

Even when they did it on Smallville with the alien Ken & Barbie in Arrival, it looked fake....

However, with Tom if they want his eyes to look more blue they can cheat a bit with lighting and color correction.

His eyes sometimes look blue on the show, like in Crusade when he was in the cave.

Even if they don't fool with Tom's eye color, should he get the JLA job, I wouldn't care.

Who cares if Superman's eyes are usually blue in the comics? Tom's eyes are green, and a very lovely shade at that....

Cain's eyes are brown and they didn't bother with changing them for Lois & Clark....

I don't think you need to be totally accurate along as everything else is right, and Tom is right for the part in every other way.

Oh, KE8:

You should resize those images or only have thumbnails... stretching the page ain't cool.

Well, I know you're a big proponent of the Timm-verse, and while the cartoon's not a comic (though they did spawn a JLU comic for kids) the Timm-verse Superman doesn't have blue eyes:

http://www.worldsfinestonline.com/WF/superman/bios/heroes/superman/09.jpg

That is true (however Timm explained why, so I didn't have a huge problem with it . Since it he gave a pretty damn good reason . I accepted it) He did however still remain true by having Lara still have Blue eyes same with Kara .

I'm sure it wasn't intentional. Well actually, I'm *not* sure it wasn't intentional, but they DO look similar. The LOSH Superman looks very much like a stylized comicbook version of TW as Superman, w/o being overly obvious about it. Other people's mileage can and will vary...

Thank you so much!!!

So he had the time to go down to LA! I think it's unusual at this time of the year for him.

I know he hates having his pic taken like this, but I can't help to be happy. We get to see so little of Tom as himself. :( Are there any more candids? There should be.

I love these little glimpses of him in everyday life. I would never want to intrude on him or harass him but I know some fans can be so rude and insensitive. I think its made him protective especially of his wife. This pic was cropped. It's part of a series of six shots of him and Jamie. I saw them on another site but when I went back they had been removed.

I totally agree with you. I would never harass him either, but I understand how frightening some fans/stalkers could be and I understand his need for privacy. Famous or not, I'd go mad if I felt I was being followed every time I set foot on the street.

Now I'll have to go on a hunt for the rest of the pics. What can I say! I am Tom-greedy (from afar!)!

Edit: I found them. I understand why that other site decided to remove them. Tom looks angry in some of those pics. Poor Tom! He's with his wife and he clearly hates the intrusion. :(

He looks gorgeous but I'm sad for him. I too hate paparazzi!

March 15 , September 9 and this last weekend till Tuesday. And that's only what we know of for sure because there are pictures. She probably has been there more...there aren't always pics.

MR was just to an event on the 4th. And now Tom pics from LA.

LA seems to be the casts new playground.

Lemme ask this question a different way for anybody who might know: when was the last time all THREE main cast were in LA w/o any apparent industry event to attend?

Lets cook on that one for a bit. :)

This time was no different. But who knows if that was all.

I highly doubt they are done shooting and can give the actors time off already. I might be wrong though. Guess it's time for me to get my contacts to talk.

Okay, so I was bored and looked up Welling's biography on Variety. Nothing we don't already know, but still a fun read for die hard fans.

<snip>
His chemistry with would-be love interest Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk) and friend/future foe Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) often helped to elevate the show above its genre trappings and showed skills that offered Welling a future beyond "Smallville"...

<snip>

Aw... thanks for posting that!

Apparently, I'm not the only person who thinks DC Direct's 13-inch Nightwing action figure looks like Tom Welling. From Michael Crawford's Action Figure Review site (which is an excellent review site for toys):

As I said, the head sculpt is well done, but I'm not sure who it is. This is a really generic look for Nightwing, and once you take the mask off he looks a whole lot more like the love child of Tom Welling and Brad Pitt than any recognizable comic version of Dick.

Here's a pic of the figure sans mask:

I see some resemblance to Tom with the mask on, but have to agree with the poster who said <paraphrasing here>, "take the mask off and it's Brad Pitt" but with dark hair. Brad's a smaller guy, but the face does look more like his than Tom's when the mask is off. Some is the eyes; some is the wide jaw that goes out past the ears.

The folks over at DTTW posted an interview with TW from the Nov/Dec 07 issue of French Magazine, Séries Stars (it had to be translated). Scans of the mag are in the link to the original DTTW post at the bottom. This was a fun read:

"I don't find Clark is this good and straight. As a matter of fact, what makes him interesting is that he is very human. He constantly battles with moral questions and tries to sort out the good and the bad. Clark's choices sometimes have devastating consequences for the people around him. He bears quite some fault, and that's why I think he is far from perfect. And fortunately so, because it is quite boring to play such a type of role. I am therefore not yet tired of this character."

"Doing love scenes bothers me a lot! Kissing actresses whom I regard as my friends makes me feel uneasy. It's an intimate thing, and now that I am married I feel like I'd cheat on my wife. Fortunately, my wife Jamie knows how fastidious and not at all romantic it is to shoot these scenes. So she's not worried about it."

"Basically, it is very easy to identify with Clark. The main motivation of the character is his desire to be normal. Yet he slowly discovers that normality doesn't exist. That's exactly what you feel when you grow up. At school you may look like everybody else, fit in, not being considered a zero or someone bizarre. But when becoming an adult, you realize that everything is a little crazy and that normality is a myth."

"During two shoots, it happens often that I pick up something from the abundant mail that the Smallville production receives. Contrary to what everyone believes, I get more mail from boys rather than girls. In general these are very nice letters, in which they ask me for advice, tell me their secrets, or ask me indiscreet questions about the girls on set. It's not boring!"

"I really don't lead the life of a star. I devote my time to my wife. Now and then Jamie and I go out to have a drink with friends. Numerous shows are produced in Vancouver, and so it happens regularly that I meet some buddies there. I got to know Jensen Ackles when he played Jason Teague in Season 4. Now he is on Supernatural here in Vancouver. Together with Michael Rosenbaum we often visit the set of this show. Michael, Jensen, Jared Padalecki and I play golf together, and we frequently meet for a beer after work. That's cool enough, but we also find ways to play pranks on each other to interrupt the monotony..."

"I don't have much free time when shooting Smallville. It took quite some time for my wife and me to get used to that, but now we've got there. It has become normal for me to leave early in the morning in order to work 12-14 hours on set. That belongs to my daily routine now. I have done this for six years, nine months each year, and I don't complain. There are much harder jobs than this. I worked at a construction site before becoming a model and then an actor, and that's not more of a repose."

"Whenever we can, we receive groups who dedicate their work to young patients suffering from rare diseases. These are always magic moments in which we can bring some happiness to these children, who thus instantly forget their condition. We show them the set, make them meet the cast and crew, and they leave with their heads full of sparkles".

I think Welling likes the character's internal conflict and uncertainty. Playing a character that has all the answers is bow-RANG!! ;)

There's some great stuff in the latest SV Magazine, which I just picked up yesterday. Yeah I know, I'm slow. I think the mag's been out for a good month. Anyway, there's a nice interview in the mag with Chris Carmack, the actor who played Geoff Johns in Recruit...

http://www.patcostello.com/temp/recruit3.jpg

"Geoff got too caught up in it [seduction of power] to use the word regret, but if he had time to reflect after what he had done, he would have wished he never had the power in the first place," suggests Carmack. "Power corrupts, and that's the same for superpowers."

[snip]

Most of the kryptonite-enhanced adversaries on Smallville have a flashy power with some punch, so was Carmack disappointed that Geoff never had a physical showdown with Clark?

"No, not really," he says. "What drew me to the character was his crisis. And Tom Welling is quite an intimidating guy! You get why he was cast. Do I want to duke it out with Tom? You know, I'll pass!

"I'm about 5'11, but you don't notice that on camera. While I was watching the episode with my friends, I would joke about how I would walk in, talk about how Jonathan's son was breaking my touchdown records, and how he was a foot-and-a-half taller. If you look at my eye-lines in those scenes, I'm usually looking up. I appreciate them not making it too noticeable, but Tom is a big guy."

Perhaps that's why Carmack prefers a sequence where Geoff comes clean with Clark and gives some insight into his personal issues.

"My favorite moment in that episode was when Clark threw me down on the hood of my truck and I told him why I did it," says Carmack. "It became too much. The power, the greed, the accomplishment. That was the crux of the character."Hah! Awesome stuff there. LOL :D

This must be a first but, to be honest, I don't completely agree with Tom about Clark here. It's true that Clarks wants, or wanted, to be normal, but I think his main motivation is to do the right thing. Clark's always trying to do the right thing though he doesn't always make the right choices and of course he makes mistakes. I believe that Clark ISgood, though I agree he's not perfect. He bears fault but seldom for selfish reasons. I think that important distinction should have been added to the comments about Clark.

So there you have it, Tom.

But I still love you.

Actually I;ve seen some of those quotes before from a couple of years ago, so I think they probably grabbed a bunch from different places, and Clark was trying very hard to be normal during the high school years, as most kids do at that age.

Indeed. That's why Tom could never play Superman as the invincible God he was portrayed in horrible comic books in the late to early 90's and on SR...
The real challenge though would be to write a movie Superman (that has already embraced his Kryptonian heritage and destiny) that continues on that path of being the most human of us all.
Chris managed to play really well that humanity and goodness but he came across very much larger than life. I think with Tom it would have to be played some other way. Still a legend but not coming across too God-like.
Can a Superman movie be done that way in order not only to satisfy Welling but us fans that relate to the character played this way ?
It remains to be seen but I think it would be a challenge that would be worth it and would pay off big time in the end.

They can do a Legion Of Superheroes Movie with Tom Welling as Clark Kent & this way they would be able to leave Smallville behind & start a new with Tom Welling as Superman. In fact it seems like a Legion Of Super Heroes Movie would be the perfect way to get Tom Welling as Superman & continue from Smallville but it leave it all behind & Toms Clark would still keep that 7 years of growing up :woot:.

The first time I saw Tom Welling running was on television and what a nice run it was!!! The last time I saw Tom Welling running was yesterday morning in Hollywood and it was even more pleasant !!! Alek and I went for a hike at Runyon Canyon and on our way to the top we saw Tom who was running down the hill ... OMG!!! He is insanely hot ... and HUGE! probably 6' 5" ...

A couple of weeks ago shirtless pictures of Tom were published all over the net, with some nasty comments about his weight !!! Ok! Tom may not be taking steroids ... so what !? Believe me, I saw him as close as you are from your computer screen right now and Tom is one super hot man !!! You know what ... the sun is shinning, it's 25°c and I think we'll go for another hike this morning ... only this time I'll bring my camera to share with you the fantastic Hollywood views from hill top ;-)

All terrific, but Phoenix is probably my favorite of the bunch.I like to think of these four as a SV movie:

Exile
Phoenix

Extinction and Slumber were really good eps too, but I don't think they compare to the brilliance of Exile or Phoenix, which are top ten material IMHO. In fact, I'd put Exile in my top three favorite SV eps of all time. Yeah... I liked it THAT much.

Thanks for posting the pics, Pat. I noticed they are numbered 5-10. Did you post 1-4 at another time?Heh! It's funny, 'cause there's almost 200 megs on my server for TW alone.

...maybe I shouldn't admit that? http://www.patcostello.com/smileys/nervous.gif

I don't delete much. A lot of images go back literally years and were posted somewhere for some reason, which may or may not be obvious based on the pic LOL.

With the Exodus caps, #1 and #2 were made for the "Angels and Devils" thread, #3 is self explanatory LOL (tonsil hockey) :D , and #4 is an older, lower quality cap that I might update. I'm working on #11 right now, which is from that very scene.

A lot of the newer caps are spiffed-up in some way - color replacement, temperature, saturation, contrast, shadow/highlight, and various other nit-picky things. They're not "artworks" like you guys do, but they're not basic caps either. For example, the scene from Ageless that the following two caps were taken from was pretty dark. One cap I made into an artwork, and the other I just... artsied up. LOL

Extinction and Slumber were really good eps too, but I don't think they compare to the brilliance of Exile or Phoenix, which are top ten material IMHO. In fact, I'd put Exile in my top three favorite SV eps of all time. Yeah... I liked it THAT much.

No, they weren't as good as Exile & Phoenix, but that first four episodes of Season 3 made for probably one of the strongest starts of a Season ever.

Most seasons have at least one stinker in the first four episodes, and it looks like its usually the third episode of the season:

Season 1: Hothead - 1.03
Season 2: Duplicity - 2.03
Season 4: Gone and Facade were both stinkers - 4.02 & 4.03
Season 5: Aqua (only redeemed by the intro of Fine, IMO) - 5.04
Season 6: Wither - 6.03
Season 7: Fierce - 7.03

None of the first four of Season 3 were really bad episodes, Slumber is probably the weakest from that bunch, but the first two were outstanding.

Probably my favorite start of a season ever.

I completely understand. I'm afraid to even count the megs on my server for all my SV pics (most are of Tom).Hehehe... when I say my "server," I'm referring to the web server that hosts my domains. There's 200 megs of TW pictures out there [points to Internet], on line. On my computer at home, I've got... omuhgosh... over 3 GIG of TW images. :D

So yeah... going back to not admitting that stuff now. :ninja:

Thanks for the explanation. I like what you are able to do with your caps. The two you posted for illustration are very nice. I saved them as well. :yay:Hey, thanks!

Probably my favorite start of a season ever.Awww... I loved Duplicity. I saw that before I read SV boards, so I was completely surprised by the reveal - and re-heeely excited about it. It was the first time Clark had somebody other than his parents to talk to about his secret, and Pete was his best friend. AND... Pete didn't forget at the end, which I was panicking might happen as I watched the ep. Yeah, even back then I was wary of the SV reset phenomenon.

For me, the best 4 episode start was S2, hands down. Vortex, Heat, Duplicity and Red were all extremely important episodes for the series. Exile and Phoenix were amazing episodes, but Extinction wasn't anything special (IMHO), and the best part of Slumber was the teaser LOL.

I also REALLY loved Crusade and Gone, but I thought Facade and Devoted were horrible, so I agree with you - sort of - on S4.

Season five is tough, because I really did enjoy Aqua. Arrival, Mortal and Hidden go w/o saying - all were AMAZING episodes. Hidden in fact is still my favorite SV episode of all time; it should have been a movie.

Season six... well, lets not talk about S6, kay? LOL :p

Season one and seven, yup, yup! The Fierce and Hothead scripts should have been used as kindling.

Oh, I loathed Duplicity but Heat and Red were both terrific.

But Slumber's first act all being a dream was perfect. I loved it and teh TC in Extinction so took it above where the script would otherwise be for me.

Hehehehe! You folks are easy to please. :D

An interesting little tidbit about that BTS shot from Lucy - Sayour is listed as 6'3 on his IMDb page. Since he's a stuntman and stand-in, I imagine that height is accurate. In the Lucy photo, Sayour and Welling are standing side by side, and both are wearing the exact same clothes, probably right down to their boots. Welling looks a smidgen taller than Sayour, maybe about a half inch. That sounds about right. I'd believe he was 6'3½, because with shoes/boots, that would make him appear about 6'5, which is about the size a lot of people think he is when they meet him in person.

Regarding stuntwork and FX, here's some more tidbits from the SV S4 Companion Book:

Pariah car catch (Click for full motion .gif - 1.4M) (http://www.patcostello.com/temp/pariah2.gif)

"We did ninety percent of that out in the street over by our other studio," special effects supervisor Mike Walls said of the daring stunt. "I would say a good eighty-five percent of it was Tom himself. We built a green cage that replicated the front end of the car, and we had guys swing it in. Tom would grab onto the cage and react to it like that. That's how we got him actually physically catching the car, because it was too dangerous to have the car itself swing through.

"We launched the car on a pipe ramp: a guy drove it and hooked the car down the road, and it landed past the cameras," Walls added. "After that we took another car and we physically mounted it onto a crane and hung it in the air. The actual car was full-sized in midair, and it was just suspended by wires."

http://www.patcostello.com/temp/pariah9.jpg

"That was a fantastic stunt," stunt coordinator Chris Sayour recalled. "I wouldn't allow Tom to do the very dangerous part, but he did the majority of the rest of it." For the parts where Tom needed to be doubled, Sayour performed the stunt himself. "They actually piped a car right at me. Piping means it goes off a pipe ramp," Sayour explained. "Imagine a big, thick pipe that starts at ground level and rises up like a little ramp. The car hits that on one side of the inside of its tires, and comes up on the inside of that rail, tires on one side, and turns, because there's nothing on one side, so it naturally wants to spin. It piped right at me: it flew fifty-eight feet, right to where I was standing. I stood there as long as I could, until I had to dive out of the way. It got extremely close, because the longer I stayed in there, the better the shot - they ended up with a lot of footage for that.

"It's all well planned out. It's not just guesswork," Sayour added. "We do test runs of timing and distance, and we figure that out to the closest fraction of a second that we can. Then it gets to Tom, where we had the car up in the air, and he does a little jig and catches it, and then turns it and runs it down. That was all Tom, and it looked great in the end."

Lucy bridge leap

"There were a lot of different pieces to make that happen," detailed special effects supervisor Mike Walls. "Out on the location, we had a stunt guy [Sayour] climbing up on the rail and making it look like he was getting ready to jump. We cheated by using this bridge that we found so we could actually go over the rail, and he was only jumping about ten feet onto some pads.

http://www.patcostello.com/temp/lucy.gif

"Then we had this mechanical contraption we built called a parallelogram, which we use for all of our flying," Walls continued. "It basically keeps everybody in a constant plane where you can lift them up and down like a big arm. We had Tom on that, and we'd just create the path that they wanted him to fly; then for the sliding part we had Tom run across the stage and jump onto a piece of Teflon. As he hit the Teflon, we pulled it along so it looked like he was skidding down the length of the trailer, kind of out of control."

Commencement meteor shower and glacier (Click for full motion .gif of rescue scene - 2.9M) (http://www.patcostello.com/temp/commencement.gif)

"We were trying not to make it so much about the meteor shower as it was about clark being heroic," Mike Walls recalled. "The first time you didn't really get to see anything other than the meteor shower. This time, the meteor shower was background, it was never focused on - it was all about what Clark was doing to be a heroic person."

Clark's heroism actually changed one planned sequence: "Originally, the truck that was on fire got hit and flew off the road - it was supposed to be bearing down on the kid, and Clark was supposed to superspeed past it and pull him out of the way," Walls explained. However, "We wanted to have something personal," said writer Darren Swimmer.

http://www.patcostello.com/temp/commencement2.gif

The sequences in what appeared to be the Arctic, where miles of snow surrounded Clark, were actually filmed in Whistler, an area outside of Vancouver. "The whole crew drove to Whistler, and then we helicoptered in to this glacier," Greg Beeman recalled. "Tom and I flew in the first helicopter, and we stood out on this glacier which is just ice as far as you can see. We watched these helicopter coming in, dropping in the crew and the equipment. We were laughing, because it's just not like a regular TV show.

http://www.patcostello.com/temp/commencement4.jpg

"And then I went up in the helicopter with Tom, because he's supposed to appear in the middle of nowhere. He gave me his video camera to film it, and jumped out on the helicopter into the snow. I started in a close-up, and then the helicopter went up, and in five seconds he was a dot. When we went back to the base camp, you couldn't see him; he was gone. It was him and a walkie-talkie in the snow, in the middle of nowhere.

"I will always have the warmest spot in my heart for [i]Smallville. I had some of the most amazing experiences with people who I truly care about, and the day that we filmed on the glacier at the end of the season was one of the most amazing days ever."

I think I rec'd the book when I got it, but dear Craig sent me a comped copy so that made it even better!

I LOVE the quotes from Beeman. It's clear he's still very fond of Tom and the other people he worked with while on Smallville.

We copy and paste stuff here as well. It's when a SITE displays somebody else's pictures w/o asking or offering credit that frosts my cookies.

I did see that someone's already used the picture for artwork.Yeah, saw that too. Again, not a big deal. I'd only be pissed if somebody claimed it as their own or stole my personal avatar. The latter happened once at K-Site. I PM'd the user asking them to choose another and never got a response. Then a few weeks later I noticed the person had been banned (I don't know why.) Hah! That made me laugh in a Karmic sort of way. :p

From my experience, once it's posted there, it's fair game. No one asks permission, they just use it. Not that they have to ask, but you know... common courtesy would be nice. *shrug*Message boards are one thing. Totally fair game and it is what it is. But major sites as sites should know better. They're the ones that get all unglued about "competing sites," which I always thought was ridiculous. But if you're going to make a big deal about it, then practice what you preach. I may have scanned that picture, but it is w/o a doubt, Craig Byrne's. By extension, that's K-Site. End of story.

Yeah, they have some wonderful quotes. Actually, I think Craig's season 4 companion was better put together than the previous ones, and I have all four so far.

Unfortunately, for any of the books he'd worked on Craig wasn't able to get interviews with Tom (or Michael or Kristen) but there are a lot of nice quotes about him and anecdotes about working with him in the 4th season companion.

I would recommend them, even if I didn't "work" for Craig...

I especially loved some of the quotes he got from Annette and Greg Beeman.

True, but I think it's easy enough to throw in where you got something when re-posting. Anything new tends to make the rounds, but I do think there's a difference in reposting "news" and reposting something that someone actually worked on.

Yeah, saw that too. Again, not a big deal. I'd only be pissed if somebody claimed it as their own or stole my personal avatar.
I had someone there :ninja: crop an artwork I did and use it in her banner. I wouldn't have minded AT ALL, but she didn't bother to ask. And when I nicely PM'd her about it, she got a little pissy and said she assumed it was just a screencap and therefore it was fair game.
It really wouldn't have been a big deal AT ALL, but that pissed me off. Is it really that hard to ask before you crop something up that someone else worked on? I think most people would be flattered that you want to use something that they posted.

But major sites as sites should know better. They're the ones that get all unglued about "competing sites," which I always thought was ridiculous. I think there's some bad blood between DTS and SV.fan now too. I think I saw something on SV.fan about not using his caps there because they won't credit his site. It's sad how the sites are so competitive that they work against each other. Let's not forget about tw.org. :( I think James just finally had enough.

I dont think there's any bad blood between JC and DTS, he explained in the Art Thread that it was more a technical issue. I cant quite remember the specifics but it had more to do with DTS than SV.Fan.

Hah! This is great! LOL As posted on the following person's blog:

12/22/07

I'm leaving for Oregon tomorrow morning to visit D.'s family for the holidays, and instead of packing, I'd rather procrastinate. So, please allow me to tell you about my Tom Welling sighting at the gym two days ago. He was, I kid you not, the most attractive human being I have ever seen in my entire life. I felt like wrestling him to the ground and doing terrible things to him... or demanding that he reimburse me for the hours and hours and hours of my life I have spent watching his silly, terrible show in the hopes of catching him shirtless. But, of course, I didn't, cause that would just be weird. I smiled, he gave me a look of fear ("Crap! She recognizes me! Stay very still, and maybe the stalker-girl will go away,") and we went our separate sweaty ways. Alas.

The funniest part about that picture is that he's wearing plaid. Hah! Way to blend in, Tom. :ninja:

In the dept of "I have nothing to talk about today," I found this interesting...

A horror movie titled The Mist opened on 11/21/07 and is coming to the end of its run. I haven't seen it, but the trailers and premise remind me a bit of The Fog. The film is based on a novel by Stephen King, stars Punisher Tom Jane, and was helmed by Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption writer/director, Frank Darabont. It was produced by the Weinsteins for Dimension and distributed by MGM. Both The Mist and The Fog had the same production budget ($18M), and will probably have the same theatrical run (six weeks.) The B.O. advantages and disadvantages seem to even each other out - The Fog was a remake, rated PG-13 and released during Halloween; The Mist is original, rated R, and ran during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

Guess which film made more money - and by a LOT? :D

The Mist: $25.3M domestic, $28.3M worldwide
The Fog: $29.5M domestic, $46.2M worldwide

Take that for what it's worth. Either The Mist was a pathetically baaaaad film (hard to believe considering those credits), or there was something about The Fog that The Mist didn't have. I'm not thinking Maggie Grace, btw. LOL :p

As a funny aside, I initially wanted to post this in the old TW film's thread, so I did a search for it. Apparently, the thread must have been archived because it's no longer available. Anyhoo, in looking for the thread, I put "Welling" in the key word search criteria and selected "titles only." Fifteen threads were returned as results to the query, but oddly, only fourteen threads actually have "Welling" in the title. The one thread that doesn't but comes up in the search anyway? "Drooling only please." LMFAO!!!! It's like the board knows. Try it. I tested it twice just to make sure it wasn't a glitch the first time. Hee!

Happy New Year folks! :)

LOL :p

I saw The Mist and I *really* liked it. But I'm a big fan of King's short stories, and I think Darabont has a fantastic record with King's stuff.

FWIW, The Mist is a MUCH better film than The Fog - like not even in the same ballpark - which makes it even more interesting to see that The Fog actually made more money!

You could conjecture that The Fog, being a remake of a well known horror film, held more interest to fans of the original, but I would think that could be balanced against the legions of King fans for The Mist.

Bottom line, I do think it's veeerrry interesting to see those numbers. It's hard to discount the fact that this was Tom's first and only leading role in any movie, and as much as it sucked as a film, people went to see it (some people *cough* multiple times). :D

I went to RT's to see what the general consensus was and it seems to have been a fairly well-liked flick. Surprising for a horror film. And of course, that makes it even more interesting considering the B.O. ;)

Good points and I'm sure the Mist was a very fine film, but it didn't have something very special that The Fog did: Tom Welling.

That's reason # 1,456 of why my sig line about Warner's is so true.

They're idiots for not having moved mountains (or paid millions to Goughlar) to get Tom into JLA.

He's the only reason The Fog made what it did.

I'm convinced of it.

And he's the main reason why Hollywood better be banging his agent's door down with offers once he's finally free of his 9 month a year job.

He will most definitely be putting butts into seats. The proof is how well that dreck The Fog did when it probably wouldn't have made half that much without Tom in the cast.

Variety
11/15/07

Kristen Stewart to star in 'Twilight'
Catherine Hardwicke will direct film
By TATIANA SIEGEL, MICHAEL FLEMING

Kristen Stewart has signed on to star in Summit Entertainment's thriller-romance "Twilight," based on Stephenie Meyer's young-adult novel.

Catherine Hardwicke will helm the film, which centers on a 17-year-old girl who moves to a small town to live with her father and becomes drawn to a mysterious classmate who seems determined to push her away. Their unorthodox romance puts her in danger when his nemesis comes to town. Melissa Rosenberg adapted the screenplay

Shooting is scheduled to begin in February 2008.

Karen Rosenfelt and Greg Mooradian will produce alongside Mark Morgan via his Maverick Films banner.

Published by Little, Brown in 2005, "Twilight" was a No. 1 New York Times bestseller that has spawned two sequels: "New Moon" and "Eclipse."

Stewart, who currently appears in Sean Penn's "Into the Wild," is shooting Greg Mottola's "Adventureland."

I looked up the actress - Eliska Sursova - and other than some general background, there's nothing about her being cast for Lolita. In fact, I couldn't find anything on a new film titled "Lolita" even being greenlit, never mind rumored to be in pre-production. Is there anything else out there that you've seen on this? I didn't look under every rock - just IMDB, Google, and Variety.

I wonder if this report on "Allie is Wired" isn't just another attempt to put a rumor out there in order to get Sursova some press? Remember the Erica Durance rumors for Barbarella?

This one's cute. From DTTW as posted at MSN:

The Fit Club
Our Favorite In-Shape Celebrities for '08

Tom Welling: To play the pre-Superman Clark Kent, Welling has to keep his form in Supershape -- which, trust me, he does. I've actually had the pleasure of (fleetingly) feeling those forearms, and those muscles are for real -- nothing that Kryptonite could mess with. Welling is notoriously private and has only said he "tries to stay on top of" his fitness regimen. Guess scooping Lana out of her scrapes makes for a good workout. (Sara De Boer/Retna Ltd.)

"Delphi" over on Emi's blog (http://theinfamousemijayne.blogspot.com/) posted the following. It's... interesting. ;)

Here is a fun, but pointless game. Go to Youtube.com and type in name of any male actor. Glance to the right and see how many hits you get.

Here's a random sample:

will smith = 19,300
johnny depp = 17,200
angelina jolie = 14,900
daniel radcliffe = 11,500
brad pitt = 8,790
tom cruise = 8,310
orlando bloom = 6,590
tom welling = 4,230
gerard butler = 3,680
adam sandler = 2,860
bruce willis = 2,660
matt damon = 2,370
christian bale = 2,180
wentworth miller = 2,070
george clooney = 2,030
tom hanks = 2,020
will ferrell = 1,770
patrick dempsey = 1,750
heath ledger = 1,620
david boreanaz = 1,620
adam brody = 1,600
hayden christensen = 1,540
matthew fox = 1,420
hugh jackman = 1,240
josh holloway = 1,190
ashton kutcher = 1,040
tobey maguire = 1,000
shia labeouf = 850
brandon routh = 487
megan gale = 72

I notice Hugh Jackman rates shockingly low with the YouTube generation, while Daniel Radcliffe is their superstar, and Tom Welling out guns a whole lot of movie stars.

It's not rigorously scientific. The young stars out poll the old. Tom Hanks is middle of the pack and Daniel Radcliffe is beating out Brad Pitt. Tv stars are ranking up there with movie stars, helped by lots of episodes. Finally, Britney Spears has like a billion hits. But it sure is fun.

Clemens said there were many celebrities and several parties to attend. "American Teen" cast and crew hosted its own party, and guests included Tom Welling ("Smallville") and Josh Hartnett ("Black Hawk Down"), with Nick Cannon ("Bobby," "The Nick Cannon Show") serving as the disc jockey.

Colin said Welling actually came up to them at the premiere and asked to take pictures with the "American Teen" cast. Tusing said Welling is a "cool guy." Welling and Hartnett both congratulated the cast on the film.

You know, that might be what they meant.

I can't see Tom threatening to punch anyone, he was clearly having a good time while he was there but why didn't someone already in the party come to the rescue?

Too bad, I bet whoever was throwing that party woulda wanted him there.
