Piazza and Huguenin are poor reporters. Either that, or they didn't do their homework. These pictures WERE taken at the afterparty:

Welling most certainly WAS there. He obviously DID get in, and from all appearances, he had a great time. So I have no clue where that Daily News' "story" came from. http://www.patcostello.com/smileys/scratchhead3.gif

No, this party was for a different movie.

That was the after party for "American Teen (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0486259/)" a documentary film.

The Daily News story referred to a film called "American Son (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1037004/)," a film that Nick Cannon is in (also mentioned in the Daily News piece)...

The Daily News story referred to a film called "American Son"...Crikey! So how many films with "American" in the title played at Sundance? Jeeze. LOL

I still thing there's something fishy about that report. Welling has had the misfortune of being hit in bars by drunk patrons because he IS recognized, not because he isn't. If there's any truth to this story, I wonder if it was a similar situation.

Me friend, who's partying (I mean working) at Sundance this week checked in and I asked if she went to the Nick Cannnon and she said "you'll never guess who was there??" so she saw him being all sexy at the party, so..yeah, I don't know maybe he got a drink and didn't care about the VIP snub? It was an interview with James Masters talking about his work on SV.

Quote:
As for Welling, Marsters said: "Tom is really cool. If any of you have crushes on Tom Welling, go right ahead. He's more intelligent than you might think. We don't want to believe that really beautiful people have intelligence, but sometimes, they do. Tom's one of them. He's very funny, very intelligent."

Thought this was funny. You may or may not be familiar with this (slightly NSFW) viral video that's out starring Sara Silverman and Matt Damon. It's pretty funny.

Anyway, EW posted about this vid on their blog and also posted the scene in which Matt Damon's character in Eurotrip reveals to the world that he is, in fact, sleeping with Kristin Kreuk's character. There's video evidence in the link: http://popwatch.ew.com/popwatch/2008/02/sarah-silverman.html

So, why am I posting this in the Official TW Thread? Because I thought you ladies would enjoy the two following comments:

elizabeth Fri, Feb 1, 2008 at 01:38 PM EST

I officially hate Kristen Kreuk! Welling & Damon?! What in Gods name was Matt doing in that movie? Thanks for sharing nonetheless.

Diana Fri, Feb 1, 2008 at 07:38 PM EST

I've been waiting all day to watch this since I read the post earlier at work! AUGH I love Matt Damon. And I have to agree with whoever said we need to hate Lana Lane b/c of having to kiss Tom Welling (sigh) and then Matt Damon (dear lord those were two helluva kisses!!)

Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if one of you ladies were the original posters of these comments!

But this particular shot made me wonder something. Since there is that whole "No tights" rule, do you think they could get away with just showing Clark wear the top half of the costume for like the final shot, or just show him from behind like that pic? After all, he wouldn't be wearing "tights", just a long blue shirt with a "S" logo and a cape ;)

The above pic would be cool, but not in continuity with SV-style costumes (other than the cape-in-the-box).

We could just skip the tights entirely and end with him in the shirt and cape, as you say ;->

I'm so happy that Tom is directing the important 150th episode! Not only does it sound like an important episode for the series (seemingly being mythos centric dealing with the "final showdown" with Brainiac) but it's airing during a very important sweeps period as well.

Tom's previous helming efforts did not air during Sweeps Months. (Fragile aired in April of 2006, Hydro aired in January of 2007.)

I'm happy that Tom's skill has gotten to the point where they trust him with such an important episode.

Tom's previous helming efforts did not air during Sweeps Months. (Fragile aired in April of 2006, Hydro aired in January of 2007.)

I'm happy that Tom's skill has gotten to the point where they trust him with such an important episode.

  :super:

This is incredibly exciting news! I have enjoyed both times Tom has directed an episode and he has shown real talent in this area. It's nice to see them recognize this as well by assigning him to this particular episode. I think he will hit this one out of the park! :woot:

Yeah, I just posted the same thing on tw.org, but I saw it on Valerie's LJ:

http://jeannev.livejournal.com/22744.htm

OPERATION BIRTHDAY CARD

Status- Urgent!

Mission Objective:

To wish Tom Welling a very happy 31st birthday, and at the same time show this talented actor a little fandom love.

Mission Parameters:

Well, it’s really simple. Send a birthday card. That’s it! Or maybe, a postcard with a personalized greeting. Whatever works best for you. It’s not complicated. Make it a serious card, and write him a little note. Or find a funny card, and just sign your name. Make some SV artwork on your computer, print it out, and stick it in an envelope. Like I said, its so simple! It's up to you to find the best way to wish the big guy an awesome B-Day! The address to the Smallville studio is provided at the bottom of this message. It appears that the show will be filming until almost the very end of April, but that is fast approaching. So, we’ll need to get this mission underway with strike force like speed.

Unfortunately, due to the time crunch, there’s no time to try and gather up the greetings in one place, and send it in one big package. So, it’s up to all of you to join in on the mission, and send something yourself, directly. It’s just the cost of a card/postcard, and the postage to get it from where you are to Vancouver, BC, Canada.

And please, for those of you located outside of the USA and Canada, please consider joining the effort. You might have to get that mailed ASAP, but just think how cool it would be for him to get a birthday card from Australia? Or Brazil? Or Japan? Or France?

One request though. It would be nice if we could show that this is an organized effort. To do so, I believe all that’s required would be for all of us to include “OPERATION BIRTHDAY CARD” somewhere on the outside of your envelope. Let him know that we’re all in this together.

Feedback is totally welcome, and the more we can spread this message, the more mail the poor SV staff has to handle. Also, it would be really great to get an idea of how many people have decided to join us. So, if you could leave a message and let us know that you dropped something in the mail, we’d appreciate it. If you want to keep your participation anonymous, consider just sending an email or private message.

I think for those of us who came up with this idea, we just really wanted to do a “Big” thing for Tom’s birthday, just this once. I know other actors on the show have had their birthdays celebrated by their fans by doing charity fund drives. Which is great! But all we’re asking is for you to send a card. And somehow, I think we’d all agree that the simplicity of the gesture seems most fitting for our Mr. Welling.

Signed
Valerie, Carol, Iliana and Pep

Isn't the timing of this photo shoot interesting?

It's been months and months of speculatiosn if he's going to be the next Superman in the JLA and now this.

Not sure if it is a coincidence.

Sure makes you wonder doesn't it? I wonder when the "shoot" was done? Does anyone know the lag time for magazines from "shoot to print"? Is it say 6 months?

Yeah, that's about right, or could be longer...

This shoot was in LA, so I wonder if this coincides with that little trip down to LA back in what? October? that got so many people talking...

Maybe that's all it was, him getting the shoot done, and not signing for JL but his very Clark-Kentish office attire is interesting...

I have no idea why I'm up, but I hoping someone can post higher quality images with all the moire and yellow shifting so I can post more on TW.org...

Or I may just have to get the mag and scan them in myself.

You know...

For posterity's sake...

I haven't seen it but from the trailer I can see what you mean. I would love to see Tom in a romantic comedy. He's so perfect for that. He would also be good in an action adventure series but what I'd really love to see him get to do is something very dramatic and gritty. I think he would surprise a lot of people with how good he really is.

Bruce_Wayne29

Indeed. But I think he could do just about anything he wanted. With hard work and a bit of luck he could follow Depp, Cruise, DiCaprio and Pitt footsteps who started being revered by his looks and then becoming a great actor.
What I love about him is that good or bad he takes chances. Does he always succeed. No, but he tries and pushed himself further as far as acting. You gotta love that.
As you said, he would be perfect for a romantic comedy and in 27 Dresses he would have been great. It's impossible to watch Marsden in there and don't see Tom in the same role. Who knows if that wasn't one of the movies that Gough made him loose ?
He would be awesome in a pure comedy (and would be even better if Rosenbaum was also in there, they would be histerical), action, drama, suspense, horror, you name it.
Tom can do it.

Buddy-TV can be annoying sometimes, but they have a preview of Apocalypse and have a poll.

This it isn't if Tom is hot or not, and you all know that I think he is, it's asking what you'd like to see him do after Smallville is over.

Act?
Direct?
Or do both?

(the fourth option is not worth mentioning  )

Cool, not only is he listed as Superman but also as an A-Lister

If he is an A-Lister how come his movies for the most part have been crap ? Hell even Kristin is doing a Summer Blockbuster Movie before him & is the main character of that movie :o Quite sad. What Tom needs to do is get into high profile movies & even if he has to be the "partner" of the main star. Tom is far from an A-Lister

Prison Mike

he has his own show. It's kind of hard to star in a good movie and star in your own show at the same time. Even Kristin needed time off to focus on her movie. Plus, Tom directs. I'm sure once Smallville is over, we'll see more of him in good movies.

he has his own show. It's kind of hard to star in a good movie and star in your own show at the same time. Even Kristin needed time off to focus on her movie. Plus, Tom directs. I'm sure once Smallville is over, we'll see more of him in good movies.

The star of one show does not = A-Lister. I highly doubt the general movie going audience is familiar with Tom Welling aside from those that watch Smallville. I like Tom & he is good at what he does & does get better with each season but A-Lister he is not

I know he's not an A-lister, I was just saying why he isn't in many movies. He's busy working on his own show. He'd rather do very well with one show than do okay in a show and a movie, IMO.

Michael needs to stop doing comedies & start doing something like thrillers or action movies where he is the bad guy because lets face it that is where he shines. If we start seeing Kristin in more action movies after Street Fighter even if it bombs then Tom is going to need a new agent

He was an A-Lister that night.

Being a social A-Lister isn't necessarily the same as being a big movie star. That particular evening wasn't just about the movie industry - it was more of a FASHION event, that happens to draw various celebrities. On the heels of his inclusion in the current Vogue magazine shoot, Tom's certainly on someone's A list to get one of the 100 only invites to Clooney's party.

Tom's doing pretty damn well for someone who really hasn't been available for any BIG movies for 8 years. He's carried a successful TV show that's made Superman history and at the same time he's been in 3 PROFIT-MAKING movies, as well as accumulating 3 Directing credits under his belt.

You're right that Tom's not a big Hollywood A-lister - yet. Give him time. ;)

I think it says a lot that he's a TV star invited to a birthday party for George Clooney with only a 100 invited guests.

Other guests being Tom Cruise, Clooney and Julia Roberts among others...

Hi, Serene. It's good to see you posting here again.

I couldn't agree more with your post. If Tom doesn't make it BIG after SV it'll surprise the heck out of me! That gala was the hottest ticket in town and everybody who is anybody in entertainment, fashion or NY social life was there (Tom has connections in all three), so to be included in that evening's lineup says a lot. Also, two guys from CAA (top agents Bryan Lourd and Kevin Huvane) were on the guest list for Clooney's birthday party. That's Tom's agency and I wouldn't doubt it if all this recent exposure is a part of CAA's strategy for when his schedule opens up next year. :cwink:

DC's Clark Kent wasn't a bumbling idiot like Routh & Reeve's portrayal of The Mild Mannered Reporter -Clark Kent in The Superman films . DC's portrayal C.K. was that of a gutsy, hard-boiled crime reporter who openly competes with Lois Lane for the Daily Planet's plum assignments.

Welling Showed he's got the look in "Noir" & "Apocalypse" but hasn't fully shown if he's going to be "The Bumbling Idiot" Clark or "The tough Ace Reporter" .

With all the other "couples" there, it would have been nice if Jamie had graced his arm. I love the fact that he is reported to be happily married.

you know, I really liked Cain's portrayal of CK and was really hoping Welling would be going down that route but with the producers saying the show will allign with movie mythology, I was kind of disappointed that he will end up being the bumbling nerd. Reeve created that look for the movie, but people seem to think that that is the definitive Clark Kent. I really want to see that gutsy Clark Kent again who openly rivals Lois for DP assignments. :csad:

I don't think Tom's version of Clark at the DP will be the bumbling version. The two shots of "reporter Clark in glasses" so far (the one in "Noir" and the most recent one in "Apocalypse") were a brief shout out to CR but in "Apocalypse" he took the glasses off and did not continue playing Clark that way after that one shot.

Came across this while having a look about.

This Rocks!!!!

"I feel like most of the kindness items lately have revolved around women. That is all well and good, but it is nice to hear that guys can be kind as well. This one involves an actor who would be A list by the definition that he is the star of a long running dramatic television series. Films? He's done a couple, but is really known for his television role. Age? Not old, not aging, but not in his twenties anymore either.

Our actor is married, and she should be included as well in this kindness since she is part of it. Every two weeks or so, no matter where he is, our actor stops into a local toy store. Generally a big chain, but no love from me since they make him pay retail. Our actor spends $1000 every two weeks like clockwork. When he was filming and kept going to the same store every two weeks, someone asked him why he was buying so many toys every few weeks.

Turns out our actor, stockpiles about 75% of the toys he buys all year long and at Christmas time donates them all to organizations like Toys For Tots, etc. The other 25% he sends to various children's hospitals throughout the year.

You know the best part? The guy doesn't need publicity to keep doing it...

...Tom Welling"

Good news for Tom fans, the list of directors has been leaked over on IMDB (although I couldn't find where Craig found that) and Craig posted the listed on the rumorville section of KryptonSite here:

http://www.kryptonsite.com/rumorville.htm

According to what I've seen of the director's guild site, the first four directors are correct, so maybe this list is the real deal:

01 - Kevin Fair
02 - Rick Rosenthal
03 - Mairzee Almas
04 - James Conway
05 - Glen Winter
06 - Michael Rohl
07 - Mairzee Almas
08 - Kevin Fair
09 - Michael Rohl
10 - Jeannot Szwarc
11 - TBA
12 - Morgan Beggs
13 - Allison Mack
14 - Michael Rohl
15 - Glen Winter
16 - Tom Welling
17 - Kevin Fair
18 - Michael Katleman
19 - James Marshall
20 - Michael Rohl
21 - Mairzee Almas
22 - James Marshall

Morgan Beggs is another Assistant Director on the show, like Mairzee Almas, although normally Mairzee only directs an episode a year having previously only directed Nemesis and Action.

She's good, so I'm glad she's directing more, if this list is right, she'll be directing three this year. Glen Winter's directing two and so is James Marshall.

The only thing that worries me about this list is that Tom is again relegated to directing in a non-sweeps month.

His previous efforts had aired in January and April prior to last year's Apocalypse, which aired in May.

The 16th episode generally looks to air sometime after the February sweeps, either in March or April.

I hope at least it's a key episode for Clark, even if it isn't important for ratings airing in a non-sweeps month...
