Omg.. I can't believe you posted that. The Pieta is my favorite work of art ever. It's one of my lifelong dreams to go see it one day. I'm not a religious person in any sense, but that sculpture is simply perfection.
I love that too, I think that is probably my favorite sculpture after his David....

The following is from DTS's (http://www.devotedtosmallville.com/)home page this morning:
"Kristin Kreuk is ranked number 18 in AskMen’s Top 99 Most Desirable Women for 2005. The annual list is based on votes cast by AskMen readers and staff and has been viewed by more than 15 million readers since its launch in 2001.
WHY SHE IS FAMOUS:
She steals the spotlight from teen heartthrob Tom Welling (man, do we ever hate that guy) weekly in Smallville."
That is only a partial excerpt but seriously, I've NEVER thought Kristin has stolen the spotlight from Tom Welling. I will absolutely agree with her being a beautiful woman, but stealing the spotlight?? Who wrote that!

The Florentine steak? What are you looking for? The landscape in Tuscany are wonderful as you can see from that crappy movie with Diane Lane. Florence, Lucca, Pisa (with its famous tower) are full of castles, churches and palaces that date back to the middle ages, especially the Reinassance years (late 1400 - mid 1500). And if you like Sting, he has a big mansion in the countryside in Tuscany now.

Actually, I really liked that crappy movie with Diane Lane... it was romantic.

I don't like Sting, but old castles, palaces and a beautiful countryside always sound good. I love visiting places like that... Prolly has really good food and great wine, too. That's always a bonus. ;)
Doesn't George Clooney have a house in Tuscany?
I thought I'd read he'd hang out there with his buddies while making Oceans 12, which (from what I heard) is a very crappy movie...

Some interesting bits from Variety:
Smallville
By ADDIE MORFOOT, Thurs., Jan. 20, 2005, 10:00pm PT
Not even ABC's "Lost," the new skein that had proved to be kryptonite against other series, can slow down "Smallville."
Ratings for the Clark Kent-turned-Superman show has maintained its lofty ratings in this season's Wednesday night battle, up against the J.J. Abrams "Survivor"-like drama.
"Smallville" creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar say the series has been a great fit for the Frog since launching in 2001.
"It was a coming-of-age story but it just happened to be about a superhero," Gough explains. "So you had the action-adventure element as well as the family element."
However, getting a 13-episode commitment took some convincing.
"I think initially there was some skepticism when they first heard the idea: Superman's high school years. They wanted to know how that would play out and what the execution should be," Gough says.
"What interested us and the network was how somebody becomes a hero and, conversely with Lex Luthor, how does somebody become a villain that didn't start out bad? It's interesting in how you can make that journey."
Oddly enough, many "Smallville" fans aren't all that aware of either the Christopher Reeve films or the George Reeves series (1952-57).
"We never got notes (from the network) saying, 'This is going to be boring because everybody already knows Clark Kent.' What we found is that most of the audience that watch the WB were not familiar with Superman at all," Gough recalls.
"We did a pilot test and in the middle there was a glitch in the tape and the boys had to tell the girls they were watching Superman. The girls had no idea."

Lokomon, I copy and pasted this story over at KSite. There hasn't been an awful lot of responses, however one poster wrote the following:
"In the Starlog mag Each month, they do a brief preview of what's upcoming for sci-fi series currently on the air and in the March issue for Smallville, it simply says "Smallville. 8 PM Wednesday. WB. In ratings decline."
It is contradictory information like this that always keeps me in a state of confusion as to whether or not Smallville is or is not doing well in the ratings. Does anyone have any information to share regarding these 2 completely different sources of information?

I tend to trust Variety more than Starlog for the simple fact that V is an industry rag that is published daily. Like Pat said, industry heads don't pay as much attention to total numbers like fans do. Comparatively, SV is still a successful show. It'll never out do juggernauts like American Idol or Lost simply because FOX and ABC are major networks, whereas WB is a smaller network with less overall viewers and less affiliates nationwide. That being said, Unsafe actually BEAT OUT NBC's SI Swimsuit Model show in the much-coveted 18 to 49 demo. That is a big deal! Don't worry. Even if "total viewers" decline, it actually doesn't mean SV is doing worse. It's all relative. And I'll say again, the way networks calculate and measure ratings is an inexact science.
jas01724
01-28-2005, 08:41 PM
Contrary to the doom and gloom mongers, its ratings are very much on a par with last season. Last season it was #1 in many of the demos, this year it's second only to Lost in a number of them. Last year it got between 6.5 million and 4.5 million viewers per episode, this year ditto.
It can't be repeated often enough that it used to get between 6 and 8 million IN A DIFFERENT TIMESLOT. Since moving it has held steady with what it has now, and, oddly enough, WB are happy with that because it still has around a quarter more viewers than Dawson's Creek had it this timeslot.

Contrary to the doom and gloom mongers, its ratings are very much on a par with last season...Here here! I just posted over yonder. They really ARE a doom and gloom bunch, aren't they? WTF? The only "happy" threads over there that I know about are in the TW forums. LOL Guess I'll stick to reading those. Honestly, reading so many argumentative type posts really gets annoying. It's why I stopped reading various Superman boards. Even K-Site's went totally south recently. It's freakin' depressing as all get out.
I'm glad the folks here still LIKE watching SV. Honestly, I love it. There's a few things that bug me from time to time (and I'll resist the urge to *cough*say what those things are*cough), but I really do love the show, and it's frustrating having to defend it all the time. It's just entertainment. Those folks who can't handle this or that - just LEAVE already. Stop watching it. Maybe LOST or AMERICAN IDOL will be more entertaining. But I really wish folks would stop complaining about what they *choose* to watch. It's not like they're being forced in front of a TV set every week - or compelled to purchase a theater ticket *ahem*.

Sometimes I think that this is the last board/forum/site out there where the majority of people still do like the show. Must be why I keep coming back. I don't think any of us considers it a perfect show, or every ep a winner, but we're still *fans*.
There's a few things that bug me from time to time (and I'll resist the urge to *cough*say what those things are*cough),
But see..you should say what they are! One of the things I like best about this little corner of the world is that we can disagree about the things we like and dislike without being total jerks about it. At least, most of us can. I really do get a kick out of how we all see and react to the same show. I may not always agree with the viewpoints of others, but I like hearing them.. occasionally I do find myself swayed by a line of reasoning I hadn't previously considered. I'd *hate* for this to become a board where everyone feels they have to agree on every point. I don't think we're in danger of that yet. ;)

Yeah, I had gotten that too but over there they're so passive agressive... the mods ruthlessly edit your posts if you "spam" (I'm sorry, multiple posts in a row isn't spamming, pushing your own web site is.) and then if you complain they delete the posts altogether..
I even had a bit of a heated exchange with one mod and she never replied to my challenge to her snarky, knee jerk reaction to my complaint. I was confused on why she reacted that way, as if I was always complaining, and then when I called her on it I haven't heard boo from her since.
Anyway, Scarlett asked earlier today about where I review and sent her the link, but I'm not sure she's going to like what I had to say about Unsafe.

Hey, speaking of reviews, K-Site has one up now about Unsafe and it's a beaute. I personally really enjoyed the episode (big surprise there), and K-Site's reviewer just echoed much of my opinion. Was a great read. I freakin' laughed out loud when I got to this part:...back to the leopard wedding suite. Despite myself, I actually found this scene slightly boring. All the foreplay was funny and cute, but looked extremely fake and staged, and Alicia had like, 3 things to be able to tear off without being naked. I was actually more concerned about Alicia's torn, likely expensive wedding dress than anything else... except, maybe, that hip thing Welling did. Did you hear that sound? That was a million fangirls falling over dead...

Although, you gotta wonder how accurate that is... are they actually going to show any football? Would they practice with a recruit this time of year?Depends upon the time of the year in the show. Has it even been referenced? All we know is that Clark is in his senior year right now.
...which kind of begs another question. If Clark is 17, how is it that Lana is already 18? I suppose it's possible, but I always thought of Clark as being slightly older. Could just be a subconscious thing however 'cause Welling IS older than his on-screen school mates.
Uh, yeah.. that pretty much nails it. ;)
The "hip thing" about did me in.I'm surprised they let that slide, especially since Alicia promptly climbed on board right afterwards. It WAS quite provocative for a "family" show - but I'm NOT complaining LOL.

HWSNBN was cast as young Clark in the singerman movie and TW is the really man of steel. You put weight on when you can't exercise as much.LOL@all of the theories. Clearly, Welling IS bigger this year - and it IS mostly muscle. Come ON! Look at him!
http://www.patcostello.com/temp/spell2.jpg
http://www.patcostello.com/temp/unsafe1.jpg
But as James has pointed out time and time again, that fact in and of itself is not unusual. Welling has put on muscle mass *every* season. Considering the character he's playing, it makes sense. And who knows? It might actually be in his contract as a requirement. That said, it IS fun to speculate, so here's my two cents...
Q: What would Singer and Co. do if something prevented HWSNBN from being in the film?
A: They'd have to get somebody else, and QUICK.
Q. Who else did Singer technically sign for the role?
A. Duh!
Q. Wouldn't any such contracts still be valid, at least until principle started?
A. Makes sense to me.
Q. Would that include physical preparation?
A. Makes sense to me.
Q. With all of the pissing and moaning coming from various SV fishbowls across the net, why wouldn't TPTB put a kibosh on all the negativity by just saying Welling turned down the role?
A. Uh, because he didn't?
Q. With production on SV's 4th season due to conclude in ten weeks, wouldn't we have heard by now what film Welling was signed to that he referenced at the TCAs - last AUGUST?
A. If it was Superman, he probably still wouldn't be allowed to discuss it until after they start. If he has another film in mind for this summer, wanna bet we won't know what it is officially until *after* March 3rd?
Okay, that was three cents. But it was fun throwing that schitt out there. Lets see what sticks. ;)

Oooh, this discussion again...
LOL@all of the theories.Who said mine was a theory? ;)
Clearly, Welling IS bigger this year - and it IS mostly muscle. Come ON! Look at him!Eh. He is bigger - but he's not that much bigger. He's really not. As ever dependant on the camera angle, he was almost the same 18 months ago. The main difference this year is in the midriff, and also that they're showing his chest off even more than usual... what is it, episodes, 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 11... and counting.
Look at CbtD from May 2003. Is he bigger now? Sure. Is he HUGELY bigger? Not so much...
http://www.boomspeed.com/jamesascott/back.jpg
In his case you just need to find the right camera angle to accentuate his size, et voila, he could almost be two different people. He's your veritable Clark Kent.

Oh James, I KNOW there's tons of mitigating factors that goes on with these sorts of things. Sometimes the actors in question can discuss 'em, and sometimes they can't. Reasons can vary. I'll say this much though - I'd be EXTREMELY surprised to read a formal (Variety, Hollywood Reporter, etc.) report of Welling's next project (to be shot during the SV hiatus during the summer) *before* March 3rd. Did you ever say it wasn't?I like to keep my thoughts in the Phantom Zone. :p
This coming from the person who goes on to discuss the importance of camera angles. :pPrecisely my point. ;) I could cap a shot from Unsafe where he looks almost as thin as a rake. Entirety of point? Find shots from a similar angle with similar lens doohickies and he hasn't changed as much as it seems.
For a start they seem to be doing a lot of lower angles up onto his chest lately; it foreshortens the length of his torso, and broadens and deepens his chest.
You mean like publicly talking about signing film contracts seven months before they're formally announced? He knew about CbtD months before. Seven months, perhaps not, but at least four or five. You can (theoretically) talk about anything you like, as often and early as you like, when you're not saying what the thing actually is. Circumstances dictate what happens and when, as much as anything. TCA's last august? Circumstance threw a curve ball and Tom wasn't supposed to open his mouth.
I'll say this much though - I'd be EXTREMELY surprised to read a formal (Variety, Hollywood Reporter, etc.) report of Welling's next project (to be shot during the SV hiatus during the summer) *before* March 3rd. Call it an educated hunch if "theory" is too strong.I agree, but I'd have the same sentiment with or without any other mitigating factors. That there could be other reasons for the delay is irrelevant to my stance that it would happen much the same way regardless. But then you knew that. :p

BTW... just to be clear, I am in no way suggesting that there's gonna be some miraculous switch at the eleventh hour. HWSNBN has been cast in Singerman and from what I can tell, everything appears to be plodding along towards that end. I would imagine Welling has *something* lined up for the summer. Probably won't be the lead in anything major (I don't think he would have the time for that), and then he and the rest of the cast will be back to start shooting SV's 5th season. That's what my crystal ball is telling me right now.
That said, 175 million dollar tentpole films have to have Plan B's, just in case the sheit hits the fan unexpectedly. And those sorts of Plan B's are rarely discussed publicly unless they need to be. That's all I'm saying.

Hey, dat's cool. Even if you can't say what it is, let us know that there's something on the horizon if and when you do hear somethin'.
What would folks like to see? I like sci-fi/fantasy stuff, but anything too genre-ish right now might box him in too much considering he's still on SV. As much as I'm not a fan of romcoms, I'd love to see Welling do one. CBTD was fun, but I'd rather see him play his actual age for once. Please? Perdy please? *sigh*
I'd love to see him in a thriller with an edgy feel to it, or some kind of low budget indie, to develop some acting cred. Not that I think he needs to, mind you, but any lingering doubts on his acting ability need to be rest once and for all.

And luckily for him, he's talented enough NOT to need an "actor's director" to yank it out of him. *ahem* He'll bring to the role that which he innately already is inside, as well as a convincing facade that he's required to don for the character itself.

Yeah, but you gotta be willing to learn and I think some actors get so cocky (I've known a few in my younger days that would totally fit that bill) that they don't think they need to learn anything new.
Tom is humble enough and open to keep on learning, that's why he's improving. If he were any other man, we wouldn't be having this conversation.
Well, if he were any other man I probably wouldn't be here so, you know... ;)
Anyway, I really think Tom is unique in that regard. How many other actors just starting out get the kind of kudos he gets from his fellow actors?
He's charming, smart, talented, drop dead gorgeous, dearly loves his wife, a really nice guy and humble enough to understand that more experienced actors might just be able to show him a thing or two even four years on....
He's one in a million. No two ways about it. :D
Lots of movies I watch lately I can't help but think, I wish Tom had been in this =( Luckly I read alot and can cast him in books. I hope he's found something interesting enough to give up a vacation for.

Sorry to bring all this forward from pages ago, but...
Lets see what sticks. ;)
Well Pat, if I suddenly had the urge to throw some pizza against my wall, and the toppings were made up of the contents above... I think it would stick pretty darn well...
But -- even if I didn't have this inclination right now, I can tell you that with regards to the toppings being discussed, the possibilities and timetables for new kinds of pizzas are endless...

Sorry to bring all this forward from pages ago, but...You go right ahead, Jack. THIS topic will always be in the back of people's heads, be they SV fans or Superman fans. Welling is playing a very specific character that for the most part, has a future that *everybody* knows about. HE made us believe again. There are a LOT of fans out here in the fish bowls who still hope to see that future - with HIM in it - not some interloper.
Well Pat, if I suddenly had the urge to throw some pizza against my wall, and the toppings were made up of the contents above... I think it would stick pretty darn well...Heh. For all the people who claim Smallville is a "bastardization" of the Superman legend, I invite them to read Superman: Secret Identity by Kurt Busiek and Stuart Immonen. It's a complete reinterpretation with no ties to comic book continuity. For instance, the story is set outside the DCU and instead takes place in the "real world." The premise is that Clark Kent is a young man who grows up in a small Kansas town. Everyone makes fun of his name. Even his parents bake hime Superman cakes every year for his birthday. But then one day he wakes up with all of Supes' abilities: heat vision, super-strength, flight, etc.
If you go by the most ardent SV-hater's logic, anything that contradicts John Byrne canon (or Richard Donner canon for that matter), it is a "bastardization." Then Secret Identity is truly a corrupted work. Unfortunately, it's one of the best Superman stories I've ever read. Hands down. So why am I posting this in the official TW thread? Well, I was thinking. If WB wanted a fresh, original take on the character for a film, (and if Singerman fails to meet expectations) I think SI would be an awesome movie. It's definitely an original interpretation, yet it truly captures the essence of Superman. Plus, if TW was cast, then it'd be the best of both worlds because a.) he'd be playing "Superman" without the purists worrying about mucking up canon; b.) there would be no connection to SV (because of the meta-storytelling involved, TW could play himself who one day wakes up with all of Superman's abilities); and c.) it could be a powerful, lyrical film. Granted, I still believe Birthright is the PERFECT Superman vehicle for TW if you wanted a traditional Superman story. But for something a little different, Secret Identity could be a wonderful movie.
If you've read it, tell me the scene where Clark reveals his secret to Lois isn't one of the best conceived ways to tell that classic moment.

Hey, on a semi-related but rhetorical note, I wonder if those in positions of casting have taken into consideration the cross-gender appeal that Welling has managed to garner? Apparently, certain assumptions were made when G&M cast a former male model as the lead for SV. Yet TPTB were more surprised by the show's larger male viewership, which makes me wonder what their original target audience was. And did that revelation contribute to the change in casting opinions espoused by some of Warner's upper echelon over the past few years in regards to the Superman film?
By extension, I wonder if they're still looking at those aspects and using it as additional support for Welling's future casting consideration? Put simply, they've got an actor who has an atypically broad appeal that crosses all sorts of gender, ethnic and racial lines. Are they smart enough to capitalize on that?
If you've read it, tell me the scene where Clark reveals his secret to Lois isn't one of the best conceived ways to tell that classic moment.Lokmon, I didn't read that Elseworlds, though I've been intending to. Honestly, the scene in which Clark reveals his secret to Lois [Chaudari] is best experienced through Immonen's art and Busiek's dialogue. But essentially, it happens like this:
Clark, who is a writer living in NYC, has been using his powers and an old Superman Halloween costume to help the citizens of the city in secret. Unbeknownst to him, he's being tracked by shady government operatives. Those operatives bait and capture Clark. After he escapes, he wonders if it's safe to reveal his secret to anyone, namely Lois with whom he recently started a serious relationship. BTW, the two of them were setup on a joke of a blind date. It seems that Lois is always being set up with "Clark"s and Clark is frequently set up with Lanas and Loises. Anyway, the scene in question is when Clark decides it's time to tell Lois who he really is. The two of them retreat to the top of her apartment building for a picnic. He tells her to start unbuttoning his shirt. She does and sees a Superman t-shirt underneath. Thinking Clark is pulling a name-based joke, he tells her to "look down." When she does, they are floating above the city. After accepting who he is, they fly down to the Outer Banks of North Carolina in one of the most romantic Clark & Lois scenes in Superman history.

Thanks though. Now I really *should* get my arse in gear and read the freakin' thing. The fourth book (in the TPB version) is what kind of slowed me down - I wasn't too thrilled with the side story of his two daughters. DVDs soften blow for film division
Operating earnings at Time Warner's filmed entertainment division fell 36 percent to $201 million from $313 million. Revenue declined just 3 percent to $3.27 billion, well ahead of the $2.675 billion estimate of analyst Laura Martin at Soleil-Media Metrics, as well as the $3.21 billion projection issued by Peter Mirsky at Oppenheimer & Co.
Time Warner went into the fourth quarter facing difficult theatrical comparisons with the prior year's "The Lord of the Rings: Return of The King" and "Elf." Matters weren't helped by the poor box office showings of "Catwoman" and "Alexander" in this year's December period.
But strong DVD sales played a major role in the unit's results. "DVD has been the largest single contributor to our film segment's growth," said Jeff Bewkes, chairman of the company's Entertainment & Networks Group, on the earnings call.
Bewkes said Warner Home Video is particularly strong in DVD's fastest-growing category - full season box sets of television shows. "We're the U.S. leader in TV sales on DVD. We have 10 of the top 25 franchises," Bewkes said, pointing to the best-selling titles "Friends," "Sex In the City," "Band of Brothers," "The Sopranos," "Smallville," and "Aqua Team Hunger Force."
Warner Bros. DVD revenue related to TV shows will exceed $1 billion in 2005. Studio programs new to the format this year include "Night Court" and "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air."
Cable-operations profit rose 32 percent to $497 million from $377 million. Revenue rose 10 percent to $2.2 billion, in line with the estimates of Cohen and Mirsky.

Cable-operations profit rose 32 percent to $497 million from $377 million. Revenue rose 10 percent to $2.2 billion, in line with the estimates of Cohen and Mirsky.

Personal interpretation? Don't expect to see SMALLVILLE cancelled in the near future, kids. :D
Exactly. That's why I'm not sure so many people on DTS (and over on the Supes forum here) seem convinced that simply because the ratings are lower, that it necessarily follows it will get canceled.
There are so many more factors to consider than that, the DVD box set sales being one. Overseas sales being another.

DVDs soften blow for film division
Bewkes said Warner Home Video is particularly strong in DVD's fastest-growing category - full season box sets of television shows. "We're the U.S. leader in TV sales on DVD. We have 10 of the top 25 franchises," Bewkes said, pointing to the best-selling titles "Friends," "Sex In the City," "Band of Brothers," "The Sopranos," "Smallville," and "Aqua Team Hunger Force."

Well even if Smallville only accounted for say 5% of those sales (that's 50 million), that's is still more then a lot of TV shows get in syndication deals, and those deals are almost always multi-year deals.
And consider this...Smallville is pretty much being purchased as the DVD becomes available from the previous season. Stop the show, and you'll stop the influx of DVD cash from it.
It's going to be very hard for WB to financially justify cancelling that show even after 5-6-7 years if it is able to make that much cash from DVD sales alone. You could conceivably offer Welling Ray Romano type of cash per ep and still make a big profit yearly off all things Smallville.

Let's not forget the added DVD sales from new fans who are now watching it on ABC Family. I know of two people that I work with who never watched it until they started showing the reruns. They've since bought the earlier seasons DVDs.

That's the other thing. Ratings aren't really that much lower. Smallville's never gonna get the numbers it got when it was on Tuesday nights at 9:00 in its first season. The REASON WB moved it to Wednesdays at 8:00 was because they knew it would hold its own and perform better than what they had (i.e. Dawson's Creek). And Smallville has. Also, don't forget that 8PM Wednesday is THE most competitive night of the week. What with American Idol, Lost, and 60 Minutes, it's a wonder SV doesn't get trounced. But guess what, it actually does REALLY WELL. Even beating NBC in overall viewers and trumping both NBC and CBS in the 18 to 49 demos. All that while being on a network that reaches FEWER overall households.
That my friend is a successful show.
On a related note, compare Smallville to Enterprise. Both shows are new incarnations of established, iconic properties. They debuted the same year. Both are FX-heavy, sci-fi oriented programming, and both have had their timeslots changed. And both are on smaller networks (WB and UPN, respectively). Moreover, both shows have essentially divided their respective fanbases. Unfortunately for fans of Enterprise, it never drew a big enough audience to justify the series, ultimately leading to its cancellation. Smallville, on the other hand, has flourished despite being under similar circumstances.
The tv is biz is all relative. But by all accounts, Smallville is a successful television program that rakes in lots of $$ to WB (network AND studio). Incidentally, after all the smoke clears, it could be debatable that SV was a better investment than the Singerman franchise. I think, in the long run, WB will get more ROI from Smallville than they'll get from Singerman (unless, of course, the merchandising makes a lot of coin).

Eh, I'm stating the obvious (again) but its success was never a reason for its possible (probable) cancellation. With most of those things now currently moot, don't expect it to be going anywhere anytime soon. It makes around 3 million per ep in ad rates, millions with DVDs, pretty soon it will probably make millions in syndication, and it went from 8 million viewers in a slot with little competition to 5-6 million in a slot with two juggernauts slamming against it ... yeah, that show's a complete flop.

In season one they used completely different make-up, hairstyling, and lighting, and I preferred it that way. They made him look younger by really widening his eyes and slimming down his face, which they just don't do any more - the piled on make-up really tones down his cheekbones, and that ain't a good thing.

I like his most recent hair cut, the one in Pariah... It looks good.
I wish they'd deal with the hair cutting and shaving thing on the show... they did a little in Spell and then nothing.
I'm just wondering if he has to use reflected heat vision like in the comics or what else they'd come up with to 'splain that.

Ya know, EW isn't the only mainstram pub that's showing Smallville some love. Here's some bits from TV Guide's "Watercooler" talk:
Smallville
Aside from the fact that Lois reminds me way too much of Julie Cooper on The O.C., I am right there with this show. It's so clever without being smart-alecky. Chloe blames Lana's attack on Alicia's "meteor-induced powers" and nobody bats an eye! And Jane Seymour as the baddie is terrific with a capital English Breakfast T. Even if her Mommy Dearest act with Jason gives me the bad-touch willies, I dig that there's someone else stirring up Metropolis other than Lionel, you know? It's just too bad about the time slot. This one deserves a bigger audience. And we deserve to have better dramas on the other nights of the week.

I was thinking the other day of how as much as I think he'd be charming in a rom-com, I hope he doesn't go the route of doing a series of lightweight romance flicks. Don't get me wrong, I'd pay to see the guy read a phonebook, but my druthers would be for him to do something dramatic, even if it's a small but interesting part. A period piece would be great. I'd also love to see him go against type and play a bad guy. Of course, I'd be thrilled to see him do a quality sci-fi, or fantasy. Rom-com can come later.

Don't know if this is where this question should go, but I was wondering if anyone "in the business" knows why the WB has never given Smallville an early renewal in January as they have done last year with both The Gilmore Girls and Charmed. It just seems as if since Smallville is a money maker for the WB on a consistent basis that they wouldn't delay announcing its renewal. Anyone have any input?
jas01724
02-08-2005, 06:20 AM
It was given its second season renewal in january (or at least very early) of 2002. It's a show with such changeable dynamics behind the scenes (especially now, with the movie) that an announcement of an early renewal would probably be very risky, what with the possibility, however small, that they may have to change their mind and cancel it anyway.
Barring some very specific circumstances -- circumstances that seemed pretty likely six months ago -- it has had an unofficial pick-up for at least five seasons since the middle of season two. Any seasons after the fifth would be dependant on the actors' willingness to continue.

Too bad Singer didn't browse the forums before making his fateful (or fatal) decision to hire Routh or he woulda known what he should have done.

You know, that could be true.
Ha ha!! Don't you just picture some stoned woman sitting on the couch watching Smallville with a friend and seeing Clark and going, "Hey that guy hit on me in a bar once." Then the next scene Jason comes on the screen and she slurrs, "Yeah, that guy was there too." Uh huh. I think that when people make claims like that they should have to post a picture. Because we know she has to be a looker.
There's a reason at TWOP they refer to Clark as - "You big, dumb male-model lookin' alien with fantastic cheekbones!" Everyone was wondering why in Exile Clark wouldn't be approached by more women at the club because he looked better than everyone there. Perhaps truth is stranger than fiction???

He had me worried there for a minute that Tom was in danger of getting knocked off of his very high pedastal... He woulda gotten hurt, falling that far. :(I have an idea. Let him lower himself down a peg or two so that he doesn't have as far to fall. He's not perfect, nobody is, but that particular story is 99.99% guaranteed carp - I leave in the .01% just because anything's possible.
What I know about Tom and Jamie's relationship actually amounts to very little.

Yeah, well. He's not exactly a chatterbox about his private life, now is he?
Not that I blame him. I'd want to keep my private life private too, were I in similar circumstances...
It must be hard to live your life in a fishbowl. It probably helps that they live in Vancouver, not many Paparazzos up there I wouldn't imagine.

Aw, they're not so bad. They are purposely hard on shows and characters but even they don't try to defile The Pretty. That's the only reason I posted his TWOP title because although they'll harp on his character even they wouldn't buy a story of some girl in a bar blowing him off like he was Cliff Claven at Cheers.

It stinks when that happens, especially when you're famous. It must be really hard to learn to trust people once you get past a certain point in your career.
It must seem like all everyone wants is what you can do for them... Just being a friend would be hard to do, I would think.

Well lets all face it when the forum was popular the most was when the superman casting threads were alive and kicking, I mean that was fun everyday to see the latest rumors. Most people probably left when there man wasnt cast. Heck we all were wrong cause I dont remember anyone saying that they wanted Brandon Routh to be cast, not even it is batgirl. I only remember Law, Cavill, Cavezel, Welling, and O Hearn being thrown around.
