Are you sure Mori, because they've managed to **** up on all counts if it is true. Honestly, at least if he must be organic, give him some expression! How does organic steel equate solid and masklike and mechanical? That mask definately looks forged, not grown.
Exactly!

I think Julian McMahon says it pretty plainly:
"He gets this cut on his forehead which develops to this kind of steel face that he gets and eventually the whole thing overtakes his body."
It's the same organic metal storyline that's been locked into this film since they started production. They are not removing it from the film.
From the footage, the Doom storyline so far looks closer to the Mark Frost draft than the Kinberg one, at least from your description. And he still has a metal mask.

Ya know, plastic surgery can't cure everything...
But he still has the comics mask.Yeah, it's a bit confusing at this point.
He either wears the mask to cover up the scar and then develops his own metallic face underneath or he keeps the mask on permanently after seeing his face further turn to steel with the rest of his body becoming hard and armor'like.

I'm noticing the Doom Mask is looking like wobbly's photomanip of Doom with the Terminatrix as a base.
It also looks pretty close to the Salvador Larroca drawn Doom.

I think that both versions (mask vs. organic armour) can be conciliated. I see two outcomes:
1) The body develops armour, but the face is horribly scarred and he uses a mask
2) The entire body develops armour (face included), and the mask becomes grafted to his face by assimilation
Or it can all be organically grown. I have no problems with origin changes. Still, I hope they give him the hood (now it looks a bit like Destro from G. I. Joe or the Phantom from LXG movie).

Well, I can say this footage begun to turn the tides quite a bit on the hype for this movie. It has debunked a lot of rumors and speculation that were going against it. Doom DOESNīT look like Colossus and Johnnyīs not a Pyro. The army of doom (pardon the pun) and gloom is losing territory quickly...
Not in the least. This footage while pretty good in terms of effects, not so good in terms of acting does nothing to dispel my concerns, that Doom and the overall story are being poorly handled.

Acting : We only got snippets. Plus I'm willing to bet that's not gonna be the audio anyway. What's to complain about?
Mask vs Organic : The disease could still make his face look like crap AND he will wear a mask. Nuff said.
Mask : We haven't seen it with a green hood and cape yet either. Could be just the thing to make it look great. Shadows and such. I love that we keep the original mouth.
Anything else?

I understand we only got snippets. I'm not saying all of the acting is bad. i'm just commenting ono the footage. Doom's pre-flight speech wasn't very impressive, and I didn't like Reed's comedic response to Sue's invisibility.

The mask does look great. I have no problem with it in the least. My problem is that he's going to lose it when he transforms into organic Doom.

I have seen the footage.. and it is all over. That scene with Sue Storm and Reed when they are in the restaurant... and she turns invisible... oh lord.
I can't really blame the director too much. This is as difficult as it gets directing wise. The only person to pull something this difficult off is George Lucas with Star Wars.
Raiders of the Lost Ark's difficulty level is close too, also a Lucas project.

My theory is that if everyone totally accepts these half-assed, butchered movie versions of their favorite comicbooks, then they deserve what they get.
And Dr. Doom looks like Destro from GI Joes... nothing like the awesome Dr. Doom. The Dr. Doom character will be the major reason this movie will fail to live up to what it could have been.

Thanks for the link to Jmazone .Ok the Human Torch looks cool. The cgi is definitely off,Thing throwing the car looks like something from Grand Theft Auto. Those screencaps of Mr.Fantastic look weird made me laugh. And Doom's mask/face(?) resembles the metal face character from 1980's Flash Gordon. But i will reserve real judgment until i see completed and cleaned up footage.

I thought it worked really well even with the story-boards/animatics. I thought they looked good and tied the film to the comics. I honestly thought they might show it in that form (minus the watermarks of course).
Imagine how cool it will look if they fill those story-board and animatic shots with real effects shots!
The Regency Theaters near me have something they call "The Twenty" that plays for 20 minutes before the films begin and have segments like this on upcoming projects. I wonder if that's where this is intended to play.

Um, Doom came what, 25 years before Destro ? Destro has what, nearly the same mask Doom has (i.e. a ripoff) ? So it's pretty darn NORMAL that Doom looks like Destro (the Doom movie version has nearly the SAME mask the Doom from the comic has).
I really don't understand why someone would whine about Doom's mask design. I mean, it looks nearly 100% like the one from the comic book. Whine about something else, next time.
(btw, it's been mentioned more than once by people here that it was revealed in Wizard magazine that Doom will have his green cloat.)
And finally, it's happened more than once in the comics that Doom only weared his mask (without his whole armor) looking a LOT like the version seen in that video (hence why him looking like Destro is a plus).

I don't know what to say. I'm just not looking forward to this film. I mean jeese! Dr. Doom as a cuthroat buisnessman? That's even more cliche than a dictator if a fictional foreign country, not to mention making a character who is a dictator of a fictional fopreign country into a shady buisness executive is bordering on Warner Brothers philosophy of screwing up something that doesn't need fixing. What the hell is wrong with you guys Marvel Pictures!?

1) The body develops armour, but the face is horribly scarred and he uses a maskThat's what I'm starting to think is most likely---that his body all around his face becomes the "organic steel", while he desperately holds on to his face, which eventually becomes hideously scarred. I still can't claim I've ever been a fan of the organic steel idea, but if it's done in a somewhat decent manner(despite the concept's root problems) and McMahon acts the part well enough, I'll be able to tolerate it. http://www.superherohype.com/forums/images/smilies/redface1.gif

This is the same thing people like roy and CoolCat were saying over at the CINO forums. I can tell you already, I am not paying my hard earned cash for this s***.
Well this is different..I'm not roy and CoolCat... :p
How can you be so judgemental on a movie this early in production? Don't you have any optimism in you? :p :D You must have something if you're posting here..

I'm sorry but I cannot stand 100% behind this film and the seemingly irrelevent changes. You are talking to the person who defended Organic Webshooters and the Green Goblin costume here. But there is just not one thing about this move that excites me. I am a traditionalist when it comes to the Fantastic Four and Doom just looks plain odd without some sort of cloak type garment with a hood. As stated, he resembles Destro from GI Joe. It looks like my money oddly enough will be going towards Warners and Batman Begins instead of Fantastic Four which is really sad because of the torture they wreaked upon me with CINO. (Long story but I volunteered to watch the film for a few god friends at the dearly departed CINO forums.)

Batman Begins will rock !!!
I could see them sending Doom off at the end of the film 'defeated' partially by letting him consume himself. Then using this to lead off to some other countery wher he learns from his mistakes and rebuild himself as a ruler, so too speak.

WTF? You see Doom for 4 seconds and all of a sudden you're against the film because in those 4 seconds, he has no cloak or hood?..Are you listening to yourself?..C'mon,..gimme a break...Give the movie 4 more months, and if you still don't like it, then that's okay..

How about his whole body becomes organically metal and in some type of surgery tries to remove from his face and sees that it leaves it horribly scarred. He then decides to not go with taking the rest of the metal and decides to wear the Doom mask to cover his scarred face. So then you have just a body with organic metal and the scarred face with the classic Doom mask.

That's how he looks in his publicity shot too. Why wouldn't they use his full on green suit with armor in his publicity shot? My guess is that if they really do use his green cloak, it'll just be something that he wears for a second or two and won't be his main "costume."
If I'm wrong and he wears his green cloak with body armor, then I'll say it's pretty good. The mask itself is fine, but based on the leaked trailer and the publicity photo of Dr Doom it seems that we're seeing his main suit.
Also, the suit itself is just one of many problems with the movie.
I'm pretty satisfied with all the Batman Begins happenings. I loved the teaser, it's just Chris Nolan and crew are not very forthcoming which is making me a bit irritated.
I just want to see a damn trailer already! Arrgh!
Anyway, I'll be watching both films...a winner is me!

good and i'm still in a state of shock that this much footage was leaked.Doom kinda looks like Destro from G.I.Joe and i hope that black cloak is'nt his final costume cause that would suck ass, totally!!!
Dest...i mean Dr.Doom looks cool though,i'm gonna try not to pay much attention to the organic metal controversy as after seeing this footage,i have 100% faith in this movie and again i have to say that Human Torch and Thing look fantastic and i love the approach they are taking with Mr.Fantastic and his stretching powers.Invisible woman scene was ho-hum,i mean when you think about it there's only but so many ways you can portray invisibility, but with what she can do in regards to her powers in the comics,it looks like we can all rest easy.

I've just had a nutty thought in regards to all these Doom arguments...what if both camps are right?
Okay, the FF and Doom get blasted with cosmic rays right? FF get powers, Doom gets powers...now, McMahon himself says that the armour grows organically from a cut in his head or whatever..."boo hiss! Organic armour sucks"
Calm down, true believers. I happened upon the notion that maybe Dooms 'mask' doesn't mutate his skin, but rather grows over the top of it. So good ol' Doom still has all of 'normal' skin underneath (ie. allowing him to talk, to blink...whatever), and this new armour is just a shell? Perhaps in future movies, he'll find a way to take the mask off, but in the process he'll rip his face to shreads and ta-da! One scarred Doom for the fanboys...
Just a thought.

Just a thought. It's a good thought, but really the organic armor is just a minor part of the Doom issue. Victor Von Doom does not have super powers. His origin is in no way linked to the FF as a team, only to Reed in college. Anything else cheapens and cheeses the character. Don't even get me started on being an industrialist romancing Sue.

Well, well, well.
The Fantastic Four have arrived!
All is well in my opinion. The resturant scene definitely needs some finesse (kinda stiff in the acting bit), but overall I am truly hyped for this movie, even more so than before. The Human Torch, Mr. Fantastic, and Ben looked awesome. I couldn't see Susan so she looked good too! ;) Jessica is going to rock in this role I think.
And Doom? Doom looks scary as hell, plain and simple. Any naysayers about his mask/face can indeed quiet down now, after seeing this footage. Now, will they get the essence of the character down pat? That remains to be seen. But from a cosmetic standpoint, this movie will own next summer. And to think people were nagging that Tim Story couldn't handle SFX and action scenes!

Unless I missed it, no one has yet discussed my two favorite moments:
1. When Johnny says (after, I assume, he sees Reed stretch for the first time): "Can we all agree that's disgusting?"
2. When Ben is looking through the window (at what I assume is one of Alicia's statues) and accidentally breaks the glass.
Those are the kind of small touches that help to ground what otherwise could be a laughable story (and the reason I was thrilled with the choice of Tim Story).
Sure Ioan's acting seems a bit stiff in the "hands" scene, but put yourself in his place. He's a Welshman with an unpronouncable name trying to do an american accent, and he's got Tim Story telling him:
"Okay, here's your motivation. You're the worlds most brilliant man. You've just gone into space with your best friend, your ex-girlfriend, her brother and her current lover. After an accident, which may have been your fault, you have all been exposed to DNA altering space dust. You're having dinner with your ex-girlfirend and her hands disappear - the prelude to a fatal condition? You're concerned and shocked, but you don't want her to be concerned and shocked, yet you should comunicate to her in some form that her hands have disappeared.
Now, here's the key: You have to perform this scene so that if somebody steals an unfinished promotional cut that has a one second line from this scene, it has to appear 100% believable to all the people who are out there looking for reasons to point to regarding why this film will fail . . . Ready . . . and ACTION!"

Considering how swiftly Fox came down on us at JoBlo, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Mirko and the SHH gang got word shortly thereafter. From what I hear the biggest of the bigs at both Fox and Marvel were majorly pissed (not at us, per se, just that the footage leaked). Wow - what a brilliant video!
I certainly didn't expect to see anything quite so advanced at this stage of production.
A few observations....
I'm not too keen on Doctor Doom's accent. Instead of sounding European it sounds very Massachusetts, like John F. Kennedy or Mayor Quimby in The Simpsons. Chiklis' Grimm looks a little dopey during the speech, standing with his mouth open.
Great space shuttle and space station effects. They haven't been lifted from another film? It just seems so early to have them so complete. The green panels in the space station are obviously green-screen zones for post-production, probably destined to look like windows into space. Not sure about Gruffudd's delivery of his line about the cloud.... The space effects look tremendous, though.
I'd guess the shot of a flaming, flying Human Torch a rough design, as it doesn't exactly look convincing at the moment. Looks more like a computer game effect at the moment than one from a major film. He just doesn't look that "hot" at the moment, if you'll pardon the pun. Love the fireball throw, though.
That restaurant with Reed and Sue was not good. Gruffudd's delivery is awfully stiff and melodramatic, while Sue's stilted, cliched reaction (waving her invisible hands expansively in front of her face) makes it look like a 70s genre TV show, like the McCallum Invisible Man series.
The Thing looks great on film, although the facial characteristics don't nail the character I know from the comics. Great stuff, but here's hoping they evolve him a little further before the end of the film. The shot glass sequence suggests the humour could work, and shows how suprisingly dextrous those big three-fingered hands are.
The test shot for Reed's stretching is brilliant, and really works well with the slick new FF costume.. hope we see this effect replicated exactly in the film, along with the superb sound-effect. Evans' line "Do we all agree that's digusting," really shows this actor's comic ability, and the promise of plenty of laughs in the film.
I'm a bit concerned that Julian McMahon may be taking a rather camp approach as villain Dr Doom, with those shots where he admires himself in the mirror. Still, the Doom mask does look very good, although it really needs the hood. At the moment he reminds me of the pared-down, less heavily-armoured, cloak-free Doom that I believe was featured in Secret Wars.
I don't know if Chiklis' claim "It's going to be amazing," sounded particularly honest or confident, but on the basis of this footage I think that, with more money thrown to the effects if necessary, the potential is definitely there for this film to be "amazing," if not even "fantastic."STOP READING MY MIND AND WRITING MY THOUGHTS!!!:p

Yeah, the delivery of that line was painfull. Some people may call this nit-picking, but I am honestly worried about Guffords acting abillity after having viewed these small clips.
I agree. That's the only thing that really bothered me in the clip.

I dunno Orko. I rewatched it and....
...it kinda fits Reed's personna. Let's face it: Reed Richards is a DORK. Incredibly intelligent and gifted...but a DORK nonetheless. Ioan's abrupt, over dramatic "Cap'n Kirk" style antics in that clip are pretty close to Reed's behavior in the comics.

This was meant to be seen by someone. It's obviously promotional in nature. Just not meant to be seen by the general public. So it isn't as though they'd have chosen their worst takes.

Doom:
"Today we stand on the edge of a new frontier ..the final key to 'unlocking all genetic codes' lies on the cosmic storm..."
Computer:
"Cloud threshold in three minutes"
..now, what does Reed say to Sue and Doom? ..i got something like "(no idea what's the first word ..cloud?) ..'it's accelerating', we got a minute 'until it takes an hour' (..not ours...)" hhmmm not very clear..
Johnny:
"Ben, 'we need you to back inside' ..Ben you're not gonna make it ..you gonna have to jump!" ..3 - 2 - 1.....

"The Cloud is accelerating, we've got minutes, not hours." I can only assume they thought they had an hours-long window of time for Ben to do a space walk, but the storm unexpectedly increased in speed.

..Oh thanks, but i think he says something different not really "we've got minutes, not hours" ..there's something between minutes and hours ..anyway that's the sense of the sentence i guess. ..Not sure about what he says at the beginning, it doesn't sound like 'the cloud' but more like 'power' or 'fine' ..or maybe 'flowers' :D

Well, it did for me. I left the theater thinking there is no way FF can top this movie. Tim Story is not a great Director. The Translation of Doom appears to be ridiculous. Sure I'll see it-I love comics and movies, but I'll argue that it will best The Incredibles. I'm not trying to be the sour puss but sometimes you can smell the rot from afar...

you can't compare a movie that's complete to a movie that isn't and only 60 seconds of footage has been seen! Not to mention Brad Bird isn't a "great" director himself. And Tim Story's Barber Shop was excellent. Have you seen Story's work? Story knows how to work a character driven script and I think he'll do a good job. I'm not worried in the least.
