Doom seems to have a mask!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(btw, it looks awesome  )

Looked Ok, don't think the FX is quite complete. That Torch shot looked to cartoonish, and the music sucked. Doom sounded good, it's good he has his mask. Need to see more footage. FOX has to fix the FX.

-Prays he didn't Grow the mask-
His human eyes, and the skin around them makes me think it is a mask, rather than his skin.
Edit: And in the interview, Julian says he will have a "steel face", but it's never made clear if he'll have organic steel skin or not. But the video clearly shows it's a mask (or a very bad "organic steel skin" ;) )
Second edit: Now, i'm hoping that Doom will have a full body armor, rather than just an iron mask. Can't wait to see the "full Doom"!

Even my hopes may perk up. Perhaps when Julian M. said in the big interview, "Now who am I playing, again?" He was humorously referring to an extreme re-write ongoing. Hope-hope-hope...

Considering most of the FX in that clip looks like it was test stuff it looks pretty damn good (The shot of the Thing tossing a car down the street should look sweet as hell once its cleaned up).
And Doom's mask, organic or not, looks fine to me.
Haven't got time right now but I'll get some stills put up a little later (if no-one else does itfirst :) )

I think the whole worry about the Thing wasnt where ppl shoulda been lookin. the rest of the cast kinda seems a liitle weak. although these are clips and half of it with the actors not in character. I dont know aboot anyone else but that gospel chanting operatic music is really wearing thin. its like "here we'll play this music so you know what your seeing is gonna be epic"

I mean, sorry, but yahoo... I remember hearing back when they were considering having 'just the hands' flame on for the Torch. Gah I hated that. This clip assures me that at least once, we get the full body burn.
Didn't see enough to judge the acting fairly yet.

Man that looked awesome!
I definitely want to see it with better picture but dammit does it look cool! The spaceship and space station along with the cosmic rays look great.
Reed's stretching looked really well done in what seemed to be test shots of the stretching arm. It looks like he'll be doing some of those trademark comic stretchings from the look of those placeholder storyboard pictures(Ioan has some goofy faces on them though).
The Thing...wow. Breaking a shot glass because of his huge strong hands are a nice touch and it looks like he'll be tossing police cars. The best part is watching him emote through his 'rocky hyde', Michael Chiklis in a Thing suit was a very wise choice.
Sue turning invisible was very cool. Jessica Alba seems to be playing her well just looking at the preview.
Johnny is perfect. This definitely answers the "will he flame on entirely?" question. I love the way he rose in flames and how flamboyant he was.
Doom's mask kicks ass, it just screams Doom. I can't to see him in full armor and hooded cloak.
July 4th cannot get here soon enough!

Doom looks awesome. I want to see more of the Thing in action to see how that works out. Hope it's good. That's one area I'm a little concerned about, now that the Torch appears safe. Love the comic drawing of Reed trying to restrain Ben. That was always one of my fav's. Hope this means we'll see that in the movie. Like it both from a visual, and a story line concept.

I didn't expect to see the special effects for Fantastic Four this early, albeit that they are still rather rough and needed alot of work. From what I've seen in this short footage, my enthusiasm for this movie has just increased tenfold. It would appear that all of the foursome's powers will be rendered faithfully, and even Dr. Doom is confirmed to be wearing an iron mask. I think the cast is superb, and if the script is good and pay attention to the relationships and development of the characters, this movie will indeed be fantastic in the next Fourth of July.
Can't hardly wait... :doom: :doom: :doom:

This is a pure guess, but I'm thinking that the real metal mask is used to cover his evolving organic metal face, that Doom may see as being just as disfigured as if he had been scarred normally.

But putting a concealing mask like this on him at all just makes him Green Goblin 2, something FOX wanted to avoid this time!
And if he's like that for a significant portion of the movie, doesn't that defeat one of the main purposes of organics?
Wow - what a brilliant video!
I certainly didn't expect to see anything quite so advanced at this stage of production.
A few observations....
I'm not too keen on Doctor Doom's accent. Instead of sounding European it sounds very Massachusetts, like John F. Kennedy or Mayor Quimby in The Simpsons. Chiklis' Grimm looks a little dopey during the speech, standing with his mouth open.
Great space shuttle and space station effects. They haven't been lifted from another film? It just seems so early to have them so complete. The green panels in the space station are obviously green-screen zones for post-production, probably destined to look like windows into space. Not sure about Gruffudd's delivery of his line about the cloud.... The space effects look tremendous, though.
I'd guess the shot of a flaming, flying Human Torch a rough design, as it doesn't exactly look convincing at the moment. Looks more like a computer game effect at the moment than one from a major film. He just doesn't look that "hot" at the moment, if you'll pardon the pun. Love the fireball throw, though.
That restaurant with Reed and Sue was not good. Gruffudd's delivery is awfully stiff and melodramatic, while Sue's stilted, cliched reaction (waving her invisible hands expansively in front of her face) makes it look like a 70s genre TV show, like the McCallum Invisible Man series.
The Thing looks great on film, although the facial characteristics don't nail the character I know from the comics. Great stuff, but here's hoping they evolve him a little further before the end of the film. The shot glass sequence suggests the humour could work, and shows how suprisingly dextrous those big three-fingered hands are.
The test shot for Reed's stretching is brilliant, and really works well with the slick new FF costume.. hope we see this effect replicated exactly in the film, along with the superb sound-effect. Evans' line "Do we all agree that's digusting," really shows this actor's comic ability, and the promise of plenty of laughs in the film.
I'm a bit concerned that Julian McMahon may be taking a rather camp approach as villain Dr Doom, with those shots where he admires himself in the mirror. Still, the Doom mask does look very good, although it really needs the hood. At the moment he reminds me of the pared-down, less heavily-armoured, cloak-free Doom that I believe was featured in Secret Wars.
I don't know if Chiklis' claim "It's going to be amazing," sounded particularly honest or confident, but on the basis of this footage I think that, with more money thrown to the effects if necessary, the potential is definitely there for this film to be "amazing," if not even "fantastic."

WoW!!!! Looks Great!!!
It looks more like an entartainment tonight segment than a trailer. I wonder if the official version will air this week? Reading the coments (while I was waiting for it to download) I was assuming it was a rough cut of a trailer with storyboards replacing the actual shots, but, after seeing it, it looks more like a nearly complete ET segment.

Consider me blown away. http://www.superherohype.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif Even loved those test shots, just out of thinking about how amazing they'll probably look when they're finished, especially the one of Thing tossing the car. Loved the Human Torch flamin' on, and Ben accidently breaking the glass. And of course, there's Doom... http://www.superherohype.com/forums/images/smilies/cool.gif Doctor Doom looks friggin' awesome... very faithful to the distinct visual of the comic book character's legendary facemask, and that is only a good thing. :doom:http://www.superherohype.com/forums/images/smilies/icon14.gif
I hope that at some point in the movie he begins wearing the famous green cloak and hood, but that's less important than making sure his face looks menacing enough---which is an area they've definitely succeeded in.

I was thinking the same thing about McMahon's accent...it does sound like JFK with a smidge of German mixed in....hopefully it will sound better as we hear more.
Overall, looks VERY GOOD, fx were a little rough in the clips, but in my opinion it will be an amazing movie. Julian McMahon pretty much sums up that he "has a cut on his forehead" and "it takes over his whole body" referring to the organic steel....I wish they didn't have Doom being mutated...if he is a wealthy industrialist as he seems to be portrayed, you would think that they could have gone with the angle that his advanced technology company was working on a suit of armor or such...but perhaps the writers thought that was too "Norman Osborn." I'm still eager as heck to see the movie...I can't WAIT to see Ben throwing cars around!!

The Good:
FF's powers look great. Liked the way they had Reed not merely stretch but throw his arm, which looked really dramatic and the speed at which he elongated.
The Thing looks like he'll be as powerful as in the comics with the car tossing shot. Chiklis looks like he's got the stand-out performance thus far.
Johnny's fully aflame body looks great as well.
The Not so Good:
Didn't really like the non-FX scenes. Didn't like Ioan's comedic reaction to Sue's turning invisible. Didn't like Alba's explanation of Sue's motivation for turning invisible. Wasn't impressed with Doom. He lacked the arrogance and majesty which has always made him stand out as a villain, which goes back to the problem with Doom as Evil-Executive.
But I'm looking forward to seeing more footage from this.

I'm 99% sure it will be organic, but if you take his "comments", it could just as much be an armor. I mean, he says he gets this "scar", and because of this he then has an "iron face" (or was it steel face ?) which could be both the iron mask or the organic steel skin face, actually. And finally, he says it grows to be on his whole body (i.e. he gets in his full body armor).
But we both know deep down it won't be an armor, though...

"He gets a cut which developes to this steel face that he gets, and eventually the whole thing overtakes his body and he becomes the nemesis of the FF"
Taking that word for word, its organic... no doubts

Don't sweat it too much. With the pic's posted in the thread, and a Joblo, you've seen the best, and basically most of the video. Still worth seeing, but I know from past experience how much fun dial-up can be. ;)
I assume they are trying to put something together for a teaser trailer. I realize the FX isn't quite complete, and its all test shots and storyboards for what? I don't exactly know what they are putting together, I guess it's a segment for ET as someone mentioned.
I'm just not that excitied about the footage. Reed and ben looked great, I thought Doom sounded good. Johnny's tossing the fireball looked great. The Space scenes looked well done. Didn't care about that whole threshold unlocking mankinds genetic evolution mumbo jumbo that doom was giving the speech on. I don't know why they made the cosmic cloud a heavy plot point of the film, well according to mori it is. I'm just rambling, I'll reserve judgement.
The movie had a hokey feel. It looked more like a cable tv movie. it had that 1st xmen feel. Now while I liked the 1st xmen, the action was mediocre. What made the film good was the characterazation. I don't know if F4 will have this. The cast seem to fit their parts save for Alba. She just isn't Sue. It looked liked FOX cheaped out. The F4 has the title of the Worlds Greatest comic magazine. We should be wowed. The F4 should be visually stunning. I just don't see any greatness. I need to see more complete footage.

The teaser would have been much better if WB didn't rush Nolan to release it. Because of their poorly planned panel at SDCC, we were treated with an unfinished teaser.

You know, the shots where the space ship is hit by the cosmic rays...it looks like shots from Armageddon.I think they are too. The shuttles design is the same (extra tanks on top and curved wing-tips) plus theres a split second at the start where you can see two shuttles flying past, just as in Armageddon.
I wouldn't worry about them using 'stock' footage though, almost certainly just a case of them not having got that far with the FX yet (that kind of model/cgi work will probably be all done post-production). As EXCELSIOR mentioned earlier, this isn't intended as a trailer for the general public, but rather 'promotional' material going out to advertisers, marketing & merchandising people. So there's no harm is filling in some blanks with a little bit of older film footage.

Maybe, I'm still not convinced about Doom yet. I'm pleased that he has a mask but from what McMahon said, couldn't the special effects team be touching that up with CGI like the Thing. Maybe he'll wear the mask at first. like the comics, because of his infected scratch, but then the organics will cover his face too, removing the need for a mask?

That seems so unnecessary to me. And remember the interview where Julian said his face would only be covered at the end? If that's true, I don't think he'd have both a non-organic and an organic mask within the very end of the movie.

I agree! John Boorman used Carmina Burana in Excalibur, and that worked great (but it's been overused since then). It choir sound also worked really well in the climactic duel in Return of the Jedi.
It just really looks like they're going to give this film the scale it deserves. Like Spider-man, it looks like they're going all out and creating a film that is faithfull to the look of the comics in a way filmakers had been unwilling or unable up until Spider-man. Take Spider-man, multiply it by four, add in the characters and themes that we love in the FF, and this is just going to be a spectacular film!
Personally, this is my favorite image of Doom.

What I find interesting in that pic is that we can clearly see that his neck is still quite human, that he's just wearing a mask, indicating that perhaps there won't be any organic steel after all. I'm fairly positive that they haven't seen Ben yet. In the Frost script, by the end of that scene, all they've seen of Ben is a big, orange figure disappearing into the dark. I'm pretty sure Johnny's talking about Reed reaching under the door and opening it from the inside, which you can see in one of the concept drawings.
I totally agree with ya Willie Boy!
BTW: Do you guys speak with a Southern Accent in Southern NJ?;)

Like I said before, there could've been some recent rewrites. Who knows how old that interview with Julian is. And it probably wouldn't be too hard to change already-made organic armor prosthetics to look like they do now. Maybe they saw all the backlash and decided to do something.
Especially since the definitive cgi isn't being done for another month or so. I can imagine the people at Fox saying: "So, the fans hate the "cgi organic steel" idea, and they would prefer just a guy wearing an armor instead? And using an actual armor instead of a s**tload of cgi would make us save millions in visual effects? Well, it seems pretty freakin' obvious what we should do then, isn't it?" :D

albafan, in southern jersey we do have our own distinct accent. when you mix people from north and south jersey its like they are speaking foreign languages to each other because we have our own names for things etc. its amusing. whenever i travel people ask where i'm from. you know someone is from south jersey by the way they say water lol. its not a southern accent but it is def. unique.

ok before I get to my thoughts here's somethings to help out everyone else:
first of all, for anyone still trying to download the .avi version download this first:
http://www.download.com/FlashGet/3000-2071_4-10280660.html?tag=lst-0-1
its similar to getright except for the fact that its alot more stable. I'm on 56k and I was still getting awesome speeds.
next for those who can't play it, I suggest getting the K-lite K++ codec pack from here:
http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/finalbuilds.htm
The mega pack contains more codecs but the basic pack should be all you need to play it.
for those who are unable to download it, albafan posted a second link to download it from for a smaller .wmv file here:
http://www8.jmazone.de/?file=news.php&page=topnews&action=translate&newsid=1099209959
Now for my opinions on the footage:
From the moment they showed Johnny flamed on I was hooked on the footage. The whole cast seems into their characters and this film. It also seems like organic skin or no, they're trying to get him as close to the doom we all know and love and in my opinion, even if thats organic metal taking over his face, if you stick a green hood on him, he'll look awesome.

My guess is that this is an early computer model that they'll use for some of the CGI thing scenes. It looks pretty similar in terms of shape to the costume shots to me.
For comparison:

the shots of Dr. Doom with his mask on near the end of this video, seem to be from a photoshoot. meaning that promotional photo we see of Dr. Doom when we have a 'character montage' flash up onscreen, was taken during the course of that short video clip being filmed. i'm guessing the mask might be a little different, perhaps tweaked to make it appear more or perhaps LESS organic.

http://www.kellcom.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/2Prom5.jpgAgreed. Though I'm also really fond of this one -
http://www.kellcom.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/2Prom6.jpg
What I love about both these shots is how you can see in the facemask's design a hint of Julian McMahan's face, while also clearly looking completely and clearly like Doctor Doom. And it does this without overly-exagerrating the actor's features the way the Green Goblin's helmet did.
And I love the menacing appearance that it has, as well. Hope we get to see it highlighted by the traditional green hood and cloak as has been hinted at... maybe it could work well to have Doom finally be decked out in full gear, so to speak, for the climatic battle of the movie between him and the Fantastic Four.

Well, I can say this footage begun to turn the tides quite a bit on the hype for this movie. It has debunked a lot of rumors and speculation that were going against it. Doom DOESN´T look like Colossus and Johnny´s not a Pyro. The army of doom (pardon the pun) and gloom is losing territory quickly...

I DLed the video from the jmazone site (good thing this library computer is Windows XP with WinZip -- though it doesn't have speakers), and I have to say I really liked it. Sure, it's a hodgepodge of live action, bare-minimum CGI, concept art, cast interviews, etc., but I appreciate the effort, and they seem to be much further along in the visual effects stage than I thought they would be.
And I wasn't at all expecting to see Doom's metal mask/face until the movie actually opened, but when I saw the face on the SHH main page, I thought, "okay, commencing schoolgirl squeal in three ... two ..." Seriously, that mask looks ten times better than I thought it would, and I was already optimistically expecting it to be awesome. I can't wait to see what he looks like in the hooded cloak, but even just standing there in a black coat, he looks so imposing that he could ask a neighbor to borrow a cup of sugar and still induce heart attacks. Reed had better watch his back.
The CGI of Johnny flaming on and rising into the air was absolutely cool. And they have several months to add stuff to it and improve the effects, so I have no doubt that the scene will blow people's minds in the theaters. One complaint I've always had about the human Torch in the comics is that he's rarely ever looked like a guy who's on fire. Most of the time, he just looked like a bald guy in a red jumpsuit with black vertical lines running down his body. And the artists have a habit of making him stand really close to his teammates, which makes it seem like he's not even giving off any body heat. It looks like that won't be the case in the movie, and they'll actually make him look like a guy who's bursting into flame. Woohoo! Don't get me wrong, Johnny Storm's been rawn by many of the best artists in comics, but I get the feeling that the movie's version of the Human Torch will be the best visual representation of him ever. But then again, they could still make the classic mistake of having Reed and Sue standing too close to him (Ben might not mind), thus killing the illusion that he's on fire and fire = hot.
Sue? All I have to say is, she looks great as a blonde. Very yummy, even in her spaceship jumpsuit. For some reason, she looks the best with her hair tied up in the back, which I didn't expect. I'm so not complaining, tho'. Reed's a lucky bastard.
And Ben? Chiklis is doing this guy justice, and I really like the moment where he accidentally crushes the shot glass in his fingers. Ben has to live with this new body that's harder and stronger than anything he could've imagined, which means he'll have to learn how to do everything over again. Even the simplest tasks require him to master a different kind of dexterity than he's used to. And another advantage to having an actor in a heavy padded Thing suit is that both the actor and the character have to deal with getting used to moving in a much heavier body.
So yeah, thumbs-up all around.
I'll be happy too Riz...but I can't find your email....

I think Julian McMahon says it pretty plainly:
"He gets this cut on his forehead which develops to this kind of steel face that he gets and eventually the whole thing overtakes his body."
It's the same organic metal storyline that's been locked into this film since they started production. They are not removing it from the film.

That footage looks badass, especially The Torch. I'm not so sure about Doom though. They get the heroes right, to a tee (Spidey, F4) why can't they just make the villians look like their comic counterparts as well? I mean its not complicated. Give Doom a hood dammit. :o
