I remember buying that magazine I felt so silly I used the U-scan. It was worth it though. I think he only did it because of CBTD which is another reason I want him to do more movies.

Besides, having both of these actors in a film - ANY film - would be a dream come true for me. So, short of that happening, I'll have to content myself with dual photo panels. I'd also add that while my preference is with our very own Superman, Mr. Bale is definitely nuthin' to sneeze at...

I loved Empire of the Sun, too, (and WOW has Bale matured since then!!!! :) ) but another of my fav Bale roles was in Little Women. I think it shows some nice versatility when an actor can switch seamlessly into something a little more period. In fact, I think it would be a really nice stretch for Tom to try something with a bit of a period flavor to it--not Shakespearean, but something with a bit of Victorian or Period decorum....something Pride and Prejudice--y or even umm....North and South--y. Aw heck, I'd just settle to see him in a high-necked Great Coat, white gloves, billowy black cloak, (and atop a 17-hand Black Fresian Horse... just to complete the visual)...heeee.
Anyway, it would be a GREAT contrast to Clark, anyhow. Lol.

What she said! LOL! When you have a canvas like that one to work with, less is definitely more. ;)

A personal aside: however, that particular scene kinda bothered me a bit (although it was only very little a bit) because it was so obvious to me that he wasn't really chained up.

I mean, not that I would want Tom uncomfortable or anything, but him hanging onto the ladder like that was a dead give away that was all that he was doing... couldn't they fake it better?

Given a choice of the two (in my dreams, right ;)) I'd absolutely take Tom.. first. His looks are about as perfect as they come.

IMO, both men have that certain unquantifiable "it" that we've talked about so often here. Sex appeal, charisma, mesmerizing presence... and of course, hot bodies. :) Bale has proven himself on the screen time and time again.. hopefully Welling will do the same in time.

Anyway, we were watching Visage (you know when Tina Greer came back and Whitney kicked it). During the tease showing Whitney running for his life, she actually paused the DVD on a frame of Whitney, and his very dirty face, and then turned to me and said:

"Boys are cuter when their faces are dirty."

I couldn't stop laughing...

She got upset but I explained that it was funny because it was so true. What a smart girl I have.

So, long story short: I also think boys look cuter when their faces are dirty.

During the tease showing Whitney running for his life, she actually paused the DVD on a frame of Whitney...Wait... so she paused it on a frame of Whitney (Whitney?) in his soldier fatigues, but *didn't* pause the "action" on Clark (Clark!) in his wet T-shirt? http://www.patcostello.com/smileys/confused.gif

Mmmmm... James, do you mind if I'm picky?

You need to adjust your settings when you scan magazines to get rid of those little dots...

What kind of scanner you got?

I can probably help, especially if it's an HP (since I work there, those are the ones I'm familiar with...) so let me know if you're interested in learning how to get rid of the dots.

Just let me know which scanner you got.

Eh, no I don't. The picture was about 1x2 inches, that's the printer moire pattern, not a scan pattern. Any good hi-res scanner would scan that picture as nothing more than a jumble of printed dots.

Ahhh.... that's where you're wrong, grasshopper.

Let the officially certified scanner geek explain:

The moire pattern is accentuated by the scanner because there are dots on the page (magazine and newspaper is printed with a process called half-toning which is just a series of dots laid upon each other) and the scanner captures images in dots. So the dots on the page actually get enhanced by the scanning process.

I bet the original didn't look that bad.

You can change a setting which will help the scanner makes adjustments for this affect.

I'm not trying to be a show off, nor am I trying to be critical. I sincerely just want to help you get better results...

I tested scanners for years and still work with HP scanners and still deal with image quality from time to time.

On a Canon that's the descreen option, and I always have it on. :p The larger than normal dots on that particular scan are because I was lazy and scanned at lower resolution... which is still a scanning no-no of course.

Even on full resolution, the best scanning this picture would do is this:

http://www.boomspeed.com/jamesascott/scan.jpg

Better, granted, but still not good. The paper that image was printed on was tissue thin, and the print quality was terrible. Does not a good scan make, even when you do know what you're doing.

The paper that image was printed on was tissue thin, and the print quality was terrible.A neat little trick I've discovered that works pretty good when scanning images on thin paper is to put a piece of BLACK construction paper right behind the image you're scanning. It cuts down on the see-through tendency pretty effectively.

I've found that white works better as long as it's very thick; black blocks the light more easily, but can also darken the scan.

Yeah. :D No offense taken, in case it was implied at all. I scanned that one when I had an older computer that took a long time to complete hi-res scans - scanning it now, I'd use AT LEAST 600dpi, but at that time it would have taken about half an hour to do that. The computer was that slow.

Besides, I don't have scans on my site anymore, and I don't see why other sites should have the best quality scans that I could get - it's not like they'd have thanked me for sitting around twiddling my thumbs whilst the scanner did its business. ;)

I've found that white works better as long as it's very thick; black blocks the light more easily, but can also darken the scan.Emitted light from the scanner passing through the page and reflecting back is the reason WHY you'd want to use a black backing: to prevent it. Otherwise, you end up scanning the image you want as well as an image you don't: the print on the opposite side of the sheet. A white backing will only compound the problem since white is more reflective. ;)

That said, if there's no print on the opposite side of the image you're scanning, then it wouldn't matter. Nor would it matter if the scanned original is completely opaque. :)

You'd think so, but i've tried with white, black, grey, brown... white works *for me* - but only if it's thick and non-glossy, like mount board or some such. You can think i'm whacked if you like. ;) Sometimes experience can beat the physics!

Did YOU originally post 'em James?Yes and no. I showed them to about three people (can't remember how many) by email, rather than actually posting them, and those people promised not to share them - I HATE paparazzi photos, so I didn't want them getting out. One of those people ended up being completely untrustworthy, and now those pictures are everywhere. I know they're the copies I shared, because they have a watermark on them.

Are there more? You won't like the answer to this anymore than Serene did, but yes, there are. And I won't be sharing them because the last time I shared something ... well, y'know. A friend sent me the link to aol videos.. where there are 4 nice short interview vids with TW. Actually, three are with Tom alone, and the 4th is interviews with several of the cast members of CBTD. Tom is interviewed with Hillary Duff and Piper Perabo (sp?), and he's sporting a very Relic-like hairdo. :) The other 3 are mostly Tom, but also some KK and MR (who is hysterical). They are not new, but still very interesting to hear.. particularly Tom's comments on the internet fans, and superhero movies.

I think you have to have AOL to see these... but maybe not. If anyone knows of a way I can try and copy them to share with non-AOLers, I'd be willing to try.

All very good, but that first one was most interesting...

At the very end of the interview, Tom says "I don't really get into that..." (meaning the internet, I suppose given the context) and then goes on to say that Al & Miles have someone that sits around on the internet all day and keeps tabs on what people are saying...

Makes me wonder if some of the spoilers are leaked on purpose early to guage fan reaction... It must be. After all a lot of the spoilers later turn out to be "false"...

And it even appears this season that they may have pushed back Unsafe due to negative reaction to certain alleged plot points...

Very interesting.

I'd been loosely following along with the casting rumors and was praying he'd land the gig. I wanted him to be Batman more than Bond. He's perfect for the role. Utterly perfect. Michael who?I'm not a Keaton fan... I never loved his Batman even though I feel I'm probably in the minority.

Amazing what good casting can do for a film, eh? Yeah, it can make or break a film, something a lot of people over on the other forum choose to ignore...

Would Casablanca have been Casablanca if Ronald Reagan played Rick?

Or would Gone With The Wind had been Gone With the Wind if Bette Davis had played Scarlet?

Prolly not.

I don't know for sure whether Singer's choice will do a face plant, only time will tell at this point.

However, I do know that right now excitement and anything having to do with HWSNBN are mutually exclusive.

To get back on topic: It woulda probably helped if HWSNBN were truly drool worthy, but IMO he's really not.

Cut body? Yes, and apparently getting better even though he's lost too much weight....

Attractive? Yes.

Drool worthy? Definitely not.

Keaton has an intensity that I find very appealing, whether he's doing drama (Clean and Sober, My Life, Pacific Heights) or comedy (Mr. Mom, Night Shift, BeetleJuice). The trailers for his new movie "White Noise" look really good. :)

Gotta agree with you there. Run of the mill nice looking guy..Perhaps he will magically "pop" up on the big screen, but I'm not counting on it.

I never bought him as physically imposing either and he was never sexy.

Batman should be sexy, that's one thing that Cloony had all over Kilmer and Keaton. Too bad he had to suffer being The Dark Knight in such an awful film....

Bale, on the other hand, is physically imposing and intense and sexy.

I think he's kinda sexy, but more for presence and attitude as opposed to looks.. kinda like Dr. House. ;) I agree with you that he wasn't an ideal choice for Batman because of the physical angle, but I still enjoyed what he did with it.

Bale, on the other hand, is physically imposing and intense and sexy.

It's so great when they cast someone with ALL the necessary ingredients. Look at the overwhelming fan approval. This is a prime example of how important casting can be in the pre-buzz and subsequent anticipation of a film.

When Michael Keaton was cast as Batman, I thought that his casting was really strange because at the time he was especially known for being a comic actor...and he was good at it. I just couldn't imagine him pulling off a role such as Batman. I went into the theater very skeptical. However when I left, I was mesmerized by his performance and believability. He WAS Batman! I was very disappointed that he didn't continue on with the franchise, but again I was pleased with Val Kilmer as well. It stops there.

Christian Bale just gives me that little flip inside my stomach that tells me he is well placed in this role. I'm very much looking forward to his Batman. He just looks the part and has the mystique to go along with it.

Now, anyone able to post a Tom Welling drool picture to get us back on topic? Sage?

I was never thrilled with Keaton, but i thought he did a great job despite that. I always though Kilmer was a good choice. Bale will most certainly make this movie unbelieveable.

Great picture! However, I am disappointed that his face is in the shadows. Half the appeal of that whole scene was the eagerness showing on his face...extremely sexy/predatory!

I'm sitting here in a very boring meeting (I'm in the back, so no one but me can see my screen) and I'm trying to not smile too broadly...

It's getting hard.... I might have to come back later. http://www.mckinney.to/emoticons/images/emoticons/Wink.gif

Gawd, this meeting is way boring... just watched this guy load software for 40 minutes. (This is a product demo meeting, of a sort.)

Can someone beam me up, please?

If I could blow that up into a wall sized poster and put it up in my bedroom without having to face divorce court.. I surely would.

That just may be my favorite sexy picture of him, EVER. And that's saying a LOT.

If I look at it much more, I may be in need of some CPR. Frantik? You out there?
