"dem damn new YAWKERS!"

Theyd probably just mention how their team beat the yankees after like a hundred years of losing.

it's ok..... what is it 26 championships for NY from in a 100 years?

yeah... that one win balances out. :(

HA! When my place catches on fire I'd deal with it myself. Firemen are overglorified MORONS. They can do NO wrong. Th' first time I EVER saw them get bad press was last January an' after. That's it.

These morons work high, drive drunk, STEAL from fires...but what do they get? Godly status an' women throwin' themselves at 'em. An' here's a news flash...durin' 9/11? An engine company was STEALIN' from a store in th' WTC mall.

Th' FDNY can go to hell.

it happens in sports... it still doesn't erase 26 world series.

And it'll be stupid to think the Yankee's won't continue to outwin the Red Sox world series per world series.

I dunno, man, th' Yanks're chokin' big time this year. They've only finally gotten to first.

Erzengel
09-23-2005, 08:25 AM
This isn't the first time this year they've been in first but the AL is really close this year with so many teams vying for Divisional Leaders and Wildcard.

But the last couple weeks the Yankees are doing really well. They need more consistant relief pitching.

you know what i love about NYC?
you can be standing outside of Virgil's BBQ on 44th (W. Side), waiting for a friend to arrive, and see 'Spider-Man' walk into a Mexican joint next door.

Then you can say "wait. was that Spider-Man?" and casually walk past the open door to the restaurant. And you can see Spider-Man, at the end of the bar, ordering a beer.
and no one in the restaurant is batting an eyelash.

Okay, see, Chicago's #1 fer homicides. That's not New York, that's not even NEAR New York. That only shows that any city at any time can take th' lead in somethin' like that. Statue Of Liberty in December? Be prepared to freeze your balls off! I don't think they let folks up in the inside of Lady Liberty anymore, either. Not since 9/11.

Empire State Building is way cool, particularly at night. Museum of Natural History is awesome. The Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center is a must see during the holidays. There's a nice view from Battery Park. Times Square is overrated, IMHO. There's a ton to see and do in NYC. It just depends on what you're into.

First time though, so I want to do stuff that's synonomous with NYC, but not crap like TRL. Maybe the Statue of Liberty...

So thus, I make a "to do" list for when I visit New York:
- Visit Statue of Liberty
-See a play
- Bang gunblade

It's an ongoing list.

i can PM you all the cool record stores and clubs with shows going on at the time if you want.

where are you staying?

I don't usually notice when I'm in Times Square. I just go and get my stuff done and move along, as if it were nothing. On most occassions I barely seem to focus on it when I'm there.

The only thing that I will occassionally stop for is to see if the advertisements and accompaning buildings are photogenic enough (and not too bright) for my camera. So far, that has only happened twice.

to be honest... Rudy had his flaws... but he was the first to drop the crime rate significantly back in 1996 and it kept decreasing during his terms.

I mean if you compare him to Koch and Dinkins.. Rudy did a superb job as mayor... Bloomberg is doing alright I guess.. but since he started... I've noticed an increase in the homeless around the city... I remember back when Rudy was mayor I'd hardly see homeless sleeping on the subway or on the trains.. now it's more frequent.

You and I are the opposite. I want to live in Manhattan, but I feel that I have to win the lottery to do so! I just visited Manhattan for a week in October, looking at apartments. I know now how much it's going to cost to rent. I could certainly get a nicer apartment for the same amount of money in Chapel Hill, N.C., than I could in Manhattan. This fact has me thinking hard about my dream of living in the Big Apple. Yet, Manhattan is unique. I don't think there is another place in the world that gives me the feeling of energy that Manhattan gives me. It's why I have to try New York for a while, regardless of the outcome. I definitely don't want to stay where I live now.

Of course, living somewhere is not the same as visiting. There is a chance that I could hate Manhattan after a couple months of living there. If that happens, my second choice would be Chapel Hill. I went to college there, and it gives me a little bit of that Manhattan feel on a much smaller (and cheaper ;) ) scale.

i would just like to add that the spring time and the holiday season are 2 great times to be in nyc it feels like electricity is in the air and are the best time to be here

We are truly at different ends of the spectrum. I also enjoyed being in a small town in North Carolina for many years because of exactly what you want: a more laid-back and slow-paced lifestyle. But, I'm at a point in my life in which I want to be in a more lively, fast-paced atmosphere.

I agree that being in Manhattan during the Christmas season would be fabulous. I was actually thinking of making a shorter trip to Manhattan in December. But, I keep thinking it would be best to save that money for the eventual move, which I'm absolutely going to do within the next two years. I hope to relocate sooner than that, but a lot depends on how things go economically for me. I also want to save to go next year to Colombia, South America, where my mother lives. I'm still tempted to go see the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center though. I have a calendar that features scenes from New York City. The picture for December shows all the holiday decorations surrounding the statue of Prometheus above the skating rink. Absolutely gorgeous.

I wish you and your girlfriend the best in your hopes of relocating to one of the Carolinas. If you'd like, we can perhaps talk more about our mutual plans through PMs.

You know you can actually find affordable apartments in Manhattan... there are still a bunch available downtown around the Lower East Side... the thing is finding one at the right time.

But I'm glad to hear you loved Manhattan so much. Yeah it's chaotic but that's part of the experience. That's one of the things that I love about the city... there's always something going on.. all day and night.

I know you can! I even found some very good deals on apartments in the Upper East Side. Unfortuately, there's no way I could take advantage of any of them. When I saw that deals could be found though, especially if I hunt for apartments in January or February -- the realtor I used promised I could save a couple hundred dollars a month at that time of year -- I quit looking. I'm confident that I will find an affordable apartment when I'm ready. My biggest problem is having a job in place before I move. This is my top priority. My next stumbling block is getting rid of a house full of junk, so that my stuff can fit into a city apartment!

I agree with you that one of the exciting draws of New York City is that something is always going on. But, it's also the little things I love. Like having most everything you need within walking distance. I can't do or shop for anything that doesn't require a car where I live now.

Hey, Can I ask you guys for some advice?

I'm 18 and from the U.K. (although I don't post often I've been on here every night for 3 years) and am in what we call a gap year. From what I've heard this ain't that big in America, so basically after finishing my A-levels I've got a year free now before i start Uni in September.

Now This year is for travelling - and I havn't worked off my ass at pizza hut for 2 years to not go somewhere special. I wanna do atleast 3 weeks in NY (and one in Toronto while I'm up north) and wondered if you guys could suggest any hostels/attractions etc to go to. Acoomodation is my main problem and I can only really afford to hostel it, so if you have stayed at any good ones etc just tell me. It would be a great help as I'm gonna book for March probably, when the weather is crisp, but not deathly cold.

I've been twice before but only three day trips which really gave me a slight taster for it, so I wanna go, see the sights, meet some people, have a damn good time and have a proper browse in that Midtown comics.

If there are hostels in nyc they're likely not cheap. Btw comicon is coming to new york city in February just so you know.

Dammit... I'm ready for it in February. I just hate that it's at the Javits... that damn walk.. especially in winter... god dammit.

I love the new rules the implemented on the subway.... by the way THE COPS ARE *******S!!!

Yah.

Equint77

not having an open container on the subway? People drink soda and snapple or gatorade all the damn time.. but now if they get caught the get fined or arrested.

How about now in the winter... the cops gonna bust people now who wanna keep warm with coffee or cocoa in rush hour? It's stupidity.

The changing subway cars? The cops must love being next to a smelly ass homeless person and endure the ride home.

These rules are stupid... and any cop out to bust someone for these things is a real @ass bag.

It's called doin' their jobs. You want them to get fired 'cause they don't agree with it? ****, you'd lose half th' police force!

Equint77
12-07-2005, 08:47 AM
They can do their jobs without sending out tickets for drinking a cup of tea.

But honestly..... like the "jay walking" they never fine.. I doubt these laws are gonna be implemented. I just think the new rules are stupid period.

Don't be so sure. Always got a couple overzealous jerkoffs in uniform. Couple years back this pregnant lady got a ticket fer sittin' on th' stairs in th' subway waitin' fer a train. Was also a guy who got a ticket fer sittin' on a milkcrate on th' street...

I think the cops have more to worry about than who's switching subway cars.

Honestly.. the cops should be making sure nothing gets blown up around the city.. not who's having their god damn orange juice.

You know.... I'd rather have a tree run NY than Ferrer. I didn't vote for neither but Bloomy was the lesser of 2 Evils.

Ferrer is a waste of life.
His "2 New York" thing screamed racial tension. Problems that haven't been around since Koch.

I want Rudy back. :(

Rudy wasn't great- and i think he did get overzealous in the times square dept. (Equint- have you ever heard hte PreWar Yardsale song about Times Square?)
But he did cut down the crime majorly. Still, i do think he's been sort of metro-Sainted after 9-11.

Actually it's against th' law to use a crate fer anythin' other than it's intended purpose. Why, I have no idea. THAT is a dumb law.
It's to prevent people from stealing them from Supermakets. Supermarkets have a set amount they use, and some are returned to milk companies in order for them to keep a stable stock while they deliver more milk. If all the crates are stolen and used for other things, supermarkets would get no milk because they would have no crates to return to companies to get more milk.

How do I know this? I worked at Silver Barns for four months. ****ign hell, it was.

Didn't stop me from getting a few milk crates for my room.
