I recently read a few issues during his run and found the art very off-putting. There just seemed to be a whole lotta rubbery limbs flying around.

This cover exemplifies what I mean by "off- putting" better than anything. Whats the deal with the neck viens and mummy mouth? :whatever:

Personally, I mostly found McDaniels covers to be inventive and stylish with a real sense of noir. Sure the art was, admittedly, sometimes hard to follow but it was also fresh and kinetic and fun to read (there are artists out there with a more 'realistic' style who's art is just plain boring).

McDaniels art seems highly experimental at times, with mixed results. The cover of Batman 597 definately has a "WTF?" element to it. Often I found the art retracting from the storys, especially the gumby-esque limbs.

I do agree that McDanilels is not boring.

I liked (and still enjoy) McDaniels art in his Batman run. (He's was getting real sloppy in his Nightwing run esp. during NW Y1)
He reminds me a bit of Breyfogle, it has the same kind of energy.
Sure the anatomy is mostly out of the window but I really don't mind in these cases, and I'm sure if they want to these guys have no problem drawing anatomically right.

You know what DC should do?
Collect all different Batman runs for example:
Aparo's, Breyfogle's and McDaniels run and collect them in glossy hardcover.

Yeah, you know, he did a great job. One can see the quantity of effort that he did to make this costume.
He worked out a lot just to have this great build, you can see there are plenty of muscles under this great outfit.

His stunning cowl is simply awesome. A remarkable sculpt. DavidYR1 and Youngbat should feel ashamed. Their work pale in comparison with this great sculpting technique. They should learn a lot from this guy in terms of costume making.

The invisible utility belt was definitely a nice touch. It adds a mysterious aura to the character.
I mean, how many kinds of enigmatic gadgets one can carry in an invisible belt?
But then he destroyed everything when he chose this color scheme. Black and Gray, when we all know that Batman must be Blue and Gray.

Keaton might be able to avoid most of the sound effects, but he can't dodge them forever. If he can land a hit on West, he might win, but like I said, "Kapow-Zonk" is pretty powerful.
