Wow, their names kind of suck. There's an excuse for DC's retaining the word "lad" in sidekick names out of a sense of traditionalism, but really... these are totally new characters...

The designs look good, though. The Iron Man wannabe looks kind of bland, but otherwise the designs are cool, especially Thor Jr.'s.

man, people are gonna crucify Millar for the few little continuity errors in that first page...especially him calling it Oscorp instead of Osborne Industries...

Hmm, that last page from the sketchbook preview is probably from the House of M, Xavier is easy to recognize, the woman might be Wanda and the guy wearing a cape.. Vision?

I was just getting ready to do that.

If a writer's going to write in the 616, then he has to accept the responsibilities of it's history. Not continuity, history.

And at the time of this flashback, it was most definitely not called Oscorp, in fact I don't think it was Osborn Industries then. I think it was still Osborn Chemicals then.

This isn't the Ultimate Universe, it's the "real" Marvel Universe and it needs to eb treated as such.

It annoys the hell out of me when the Ultimate ideas leak into the 616.

That was strange because spiderfan.org is helping Millar with his scripts, they should have noticed that.

Asgardian doesn't sound too bad, but I think he should've been given the name of either another Norse god, or another God of Thunder.

Patriot doesn't sound that bad. Brings back thoughts of the pro wrestler though. :D I like his costume.

I wonder why I never read this before. I checked the preview again and it certainly does look like Vision. He's got the little diamond on his chest and the upside-down triangle motif above the belt area... Here's hoping he's not just another figment of Wanda's imagination made real, since she's clearly out of her mind on that page.

Why doesn't spider-sense work when Peter tries to pick up Cardiac's staff? I know this mistake would be worth at least 50 posts if Bendis wrote it.. ;)

Another thing I've been thinking about (BEWARE SPOILERS) is Galactus.

Right now over in the Beta Ray Bill mini, Galactus is attacking with his herald Stardust. But he's also over in FF with Johnny Storm as his herald. I can accept that Galactus is doing these at two different times but from the way I read FF and BRB, it seems that both of these events are happening in the "present" meaning relatively soon after the events of Disassembled, based on the timelines in the respective books.

Anyone got any ideas?

Yeah, Millar doesn't respect history, even though he's been using SpiderFan.org to check continuity, and if there is a continuity problem, often corrects it in the next issue.

And at the time of this flashback, it was most definitely not called Oscorp, in fact I don't think it was Osborn Industries then. I think it was still Osborn Chemicals then.

That is the easiest mistake to make. I would've made that mistake. And Oscorp isn't only a Ultimate invention. It's been used in the movie and 90's TAS.

This isn't the Ultimate Universe, it's the "real" Marvel Universe and it needs to eb treated as such.
Millar is the best writer in the Ultimate Universe at the moment, considering he doesn't acknowledge the 616 universe there. His ultimate universe Cap is nothing like the 616 Cap he wrote in MKSM. Yep, he sure doesn't treat 616 right.

It annoys the hell out of me when the Ultimate ideas leak into the 616.
Then blame Bendis. Millar has commited no crime.

Just saw the new previews. Runaways looks cool, especially "Excavator." :D

DBM: The Galactus thing puzzles me too. The events in both FF and Stormbreaker appear to take place at the same time, unless Asgard was destroyed significantly earlier than the FF tie-in was resolved. As of the last issue of FF, we know that the FF arc DEFINITELY couldn't have happened first unless something significant happens in the next comic soon...

Sad to see that Kirkman f***ed up Spider-Man's spider-sense too. Why can't anyone get the guy's powers right these days?

I've liked it so far but I must say Ellis' usual slow pacing doesn't work here as well as it does on Planetary for example, where he usually gives a complete story in a single issue.

I barely even remember what's going on in Iron Man anymore. What has it been, like 2 months since the last issue? I'm not all that interested in the story and, while I do like the art, I don't really think I can justify buying the comic just for that. It's funny too, because I loved Iron Man in the old Avengers but I've never been able to stick with any run of his solo series for more than a few issues.

I think it's been 3 months, at least that's what they told us a little while back.

I used to love Iron Man. I've got probably 250 issues of his old series, but since Heroes Reborn (which was years ago) I've just barely had any interest in him. And nowadays I have almost no interest in him.

I read bits and pieces of the old series. Iron Man is the comic that introduced me to my lifelong love of John Romita, Jr. Then I liked what parts I have of the War Machine/modular armor times. Post-Heroes Return, I liked the idea of the sentient armor, although I haven't actually read more than a couple of issues from it.

It's bland and lifeless to me. You can tell he's using computer assistance all over the place, which I think devalues his work. Call me old-fashioned, but I think comic book art should come from a human being's hand unless you're gonna go all-out and just computer-generate the whole thing. Computer coloring is different, of course, since it's still a person painting the page, just with a computer instead of a brush.

I didn't know that he does, but in general, I agree. People look so static when they do that. Comics are a medium that you have to fool people into "seeing" movement when there isn't any. I was reading Ex Machina, which I really liked, but something was bothering me about the art, that I couldn't quite put my finger on. Sure enough, I turned to the back (it was a TPB) and there were comparisons between the photos and the art. And one of them was the specific panel that was really bothering me. I blame Alex Ross.

Photo references go back way beyond Alex Ross. They're good because they help you retain some variety in your faces (as opposed to Jim Lee, David Finch, John Romita Jr., and loads of other comic artists whose people all look the same), but you're right, unless the artist is really, really good and can just think 3-dimensionally in perfect proportion, they're screwed if they want to actually make the faces do much.

No, I know. It's just that Mssr. Ross seems to have ushered in this fan-wide obsession with photo-realism that drives me crazy. And it's not the faces that bother me so much, it's the body "movement" that really seems to suffer.

TheCorpulent1

Depends for me. I like realism and I appreciate the amount of work that goes into realistic art, but I prefer realistic art in the vein of Hitch and Hairsine. Their figures are exaggerated less than your average comic figure, but they're like living dynamos of energy. The big Hulk fight in the first volume of Ultimates is enough to leave you breathless, it's so action-packed.

Ross I've always thought could use a little loosening up, especially with Spider-Man. Photo-realism just doesn't work with Spider-Man on a printed page. You always feel like he should be doing more, like his limbs should be stretching out in weirder ways, or his body twisting in more directions. Granov's got that problem too.

Yeah, Deo's characters are often a bit stiff.

JRJr is the best storyteller in comics, his art is not as detailed as some other guys' but he can do marvels with simple body language, facial expressions and eyes (which he draws pretty big but not manga big). Damn I miss him. :(

I don't get any emotion from JRjr's art.. it just seems flat and stiff. I don't get any movement. I've seen a panel where he tried to show Venom cutting Kraven's stomach, if it weren't for Spidey's explanation I wouldn't of known Venom hit Kraven in the first place.

Plus his Spidey looks like he spent an hour on the rack.

Excuse me? Bryan Hitch's art in the fight scene in Ultimates #5 showed a lot more movement than anything Steve Dikto and Jack Kirby could've done. And that ain't no disespect for the 'oldies.' That's pure, hard fact.

Steve Dikto and Jack Kirby are far flashier than Hitch..

And i'm not new age. Not liking something that's 'old' (like age really matters) is not ignorance. It's true I got a lot more sense of movement from Hitch than Steve Dikto (The king of stiffness) and Jack Kirby(who I base my art on by the way.)

Newsflash: Age does not determine quality. Whether it's new or old doesn't matter to me. Perhaps other people should think the same.

out of curiousity, why?

Well, like Corpulent1 said "unless the artist is really, really good and can just think 3-dimensionally in perfect proportion, they're screwed if they want to actually make the faces do much.".

I think that is Deodato's problem, he did okay work with MJ in ASM #512 but more often than not I feel that his faces fail to convey emotions convincingly.

I seem to be getting into DC more and more lately. Maybe it's because Marvel are acting moronic at the moment and I am looking for a good substitute or DC are just the better company altogether at the moment. I used to be a casual reader of DC's titles (mainly Batman) but I pick up more DC titles now then I do Marvel.

I don't know about edgier, but DC's comics certainly seem to respect their history more and keep their characters in character a little better. I don't know if that's due to a stricter editorial policy or the WB's pressure in keeping the characters recognizable or just more respectful creators or what, but it's working for them.

This is a poorly done cover.

http://www.buzzscope.com/reviews/4290/4290_1.jpg

First off May being in the foreground and Cap farther to the back throws the perspective off so that it looks like May has a gigantic head and huge breasts.

Second, her hand is going straight for Caps crotch. Either shes become very forward latley of someone didn't pay attention the the placement.

I will give a little bit of props though, because it does appear as if May's breast has some droop to it. It's all to easy for artist to portray a girls breasts as just big round lumps and not give them the shape of real ones.

And not, I'm not obsessed with her breasts, it's just that it's prominiently displayed in the middle of the page.

yep. he found out that Daredevil was the new Kingpin. he walked into Matt's law office looking exactly like Bendis and sporting a sling around his arm. he handed over his armor to Murdock and announced his retirement.

Yeah, I thought I remembered something like that happening.

Actually the artist is John Paul Leon, not Lark like the site claims.

That makes more sense. It didn't really look like Lark to me.

I thought Epting was supposed to be on it too, and that solicitation backs up what I remembered.

Hmm, I just noticed issue #8 had exactly the same solicitation.. that makes me think #7 is a stand alone issue focusing on Nomad and Winter Soldier arc starts with #8.

What the hell happened to John Paul Leon? Didn't he used to have a gritty style that was really similar to Lark and others like Doug Braithwaite when he was penciling Earth X? Now he's gone all cartoony with thick outlines and less detail. It's not a good change, either.

It's the main reason I buy the title. The story's only so-so.

Those are some damn fine-looking Sentinels. Too bad I'm not reading Wolverine.
