Very cool. The boots, legs, knee pads and other micellaneous armour get a giant thumbs up from me. Looks very modern, very urban, very cool, and very "I'll kick your arse if you look at me like that again."

thanks, just my manip tho, not my drawing. the original was cool too, i just changed the colors to resemble the classic suit template more closely.

and i agree, i just loved the drawing, but i know many would prefer a straight classic spandex type over this in the movie, even tho i think this would work great.

Guy named Gorillagrin redid ghostrider over at Game artisans Here are his thoughts:
Head out on the highway, lookin' for adventure
Ok, here we go! Pretty intimidating with lots of kickass entries popping up already.

I decided on Ghost Rider since he was one of the few comic characters I read as a kid with any regularity. Anyway, I like his character but thought he could go with a bit of the update.

Might be just me, but I always thought the whole flaming skull thing was a bit cheesy 80's tattoo parlor. Or a good way to make your pool look like it's tearin' ass around the backyard. Rather than that, I want to have an exposed rib cage under his moto jacket that where all the hellfire is going on. I'll be concepting that part out later and will def. show it in the final.

I'm thinking of taking him of more of a down n' dirty biker route. Bones sewed into his jacket, etc. Also trying to decide whether to give him some skull facepaint or just let the bony facial structure do the talking. Still playing with face and proportions. Then it's on to accessorizing and really fleshing out his costume.

Ok here is one that probably shouldn't go here but why not on that same website Albers decided to update Captian planet and it's wild but good:

http://www.gameartisans.org/forums/showthread.php?t=4638

Yeah, especially the mullet. Too classy. Well I might regret this later but I'm going to see if I can update Captain Planet - like everyone else I watched the show a lot as a kid and would like take a stab at doing my own version of the guy. This first sheet of thumbnails is just me getting my feet on the ground, nothing too fancy yet.
http://i46.tinypic.com/2hn3k48.jpg

According to the show, CP is composed of a sort crystalline element, and his hair is actually grass. I wanted to take this sort of thinking a step further and have his design really exemplify the elements from which he is formed. Onelung had some good suggestions about different parts of his body representing different elements - earth, fire, wind, water, aaaaaand heart, as the song goes, so I was playing around with some different body types previously, but I'm thinking I would like to keep the basic heroic body type while incorporating that idea.
http://i45.tinypic.com/2dh6uye.jpg

I also had this idea where CP's structure was modeled after that of the actual Planet Earth - his core is composed of metal alloys (represented by the sphere in his chest - which would also be the 'planet' symbol from the original design). Next I was thinking of combining the outer core and mantle layers of magma into a single layer. On top is the 'crust', some sort of mineral element that makes up the surface of his body. In different places the magma layer would show through - but I want to be careful he doesn't turn into lava guy.

I was thinking the core might also represent 'heart', the mineral layer represents 'earth', the magna layer 'fire', his ability to fly represents 'wind' and I thought it might be cool if he had a cape composed of falling water to represent the water element.
http://i47.tinypic.com/r06zac.jpg

On this next batch - I was just having some fun getting into the universe a little bit, did a version of Captain Pollution (I might possibly have that dude in the illustration) and Gaia - just getting a feel for a style. I'm leaning towards a swimmer's body type for CP, with the glowing orb planet symbol thing from thumbnail 'C'. I was toying with the idea that he's also kept together by the magnetic forces from the planet...so that he could actually be made up of different elements...just seeing what that would look like. For Pollution I just wanted to make him a mess of sludge and garbage - and for Gaia I was thinking it might be cool to go towards a Native American Spiritual Healer-type look.

For the next set of sketches I was playing around with what sort of mineral his 'skin' is formed from - something that would read well, look cool, and allow to create some interesting forms out of it. Not sure what the heck I'm doing with that yet. Possibly a mixture of several...lol. I thought it might be cool to have pieces of earth always hovering around him...as if the planet is constantly replenishing and healing his system.
http://i50.tinypic.com/357lzb6.jpg

http://i45.tinypic.com/x5dx5l.jpg

http://i49.tinypic.com/2r7agbc.jpg

Okay, I had one more idea pass on this guy, tried to incorporate a few different rock looks, and added some weight to his lower body, still not sure about the forearms yet, those will probably have to go through a few more iterations...I'm also trying to make it look like his torso could bend a little bit, making the rock break where the muscle naturally would.

Ok one more that's too awesome not to show done by HecM is slight but really cool Magneto redesign:

http://www.gameartisans.org/forums/showthread.php?t=4890

Hi there,

Last minute decision to enter . Precious little time left, but worth a shot... I'm pretty sure of the direction I want to go with, so most of these variations are quite similar, it's almost a game of "spot the difference." I went with a pretty close to classic version of Magneto with a few minor adjustments.

-Kept the thick collar and repeated similar elements on the arms legs and belt. I'm imagining the spheres on them can come off and Magnus can inflict some serious damage with them, similar to what the movie counterpart did in X2 when he escaped prison.

-Kept the classic helmet and repeated similar protective plates on a few areas. Similar to the plating Batman has in the latest movie in a small way. Didn't use too many because Magnus don't need much damb protection anywayz, heheh.

-Also added a few more small color separations and seams, they'll be more prominent on the final, materials will be more defined also.

V1- The one I'm leening more towards.
V2- Red cape, that's all...
V3- No borders on the plating.
V4- Age of Apocalypse style long hair?

Comments, suggestions and crits welcome!
http://i48.tinypic.com/2j0bgww.jpg

Model Sheet WIP
Thanx for the comments guys.

suppaimon - thanx man, I tried the other borders but they're almost too thin to notice, so I kept them same color for now.

dwinbotp - yeah, long hair makes him look kinda cool, like a viking or something along those lines, but the short hair has something to it too... gets hidden in the helmet, but I still can't decide, heheh.

I'm definitely sticking to Version 1, but I'm still not sure about the hair. I started on the model sheet and Made a variation with long hair... Also defined the materials a bit more, any thoughts?
http://i47.tinypic.com/2dwck92.jpg

Here are the mockups for the final image... as you can see I couldn't resist playing around with design and typography to make them look a bit more like covers. I'll probably do a clean version with none of that and one with it for fun... and yeah, my roughs tend to be kinda toony and exaggerated on hands and feet, all stuff I'll probably adjust on the final. Having tons of fun with these.

I really like a lot of elements of this redesign. Of course i've got a couple problems with it. I don't think laced boots work for spider-man, if he needs to change quickly, he can't afford the time it takes to lace up a pair of boots.

I LOVE the way the gloves fasten. And the chestpiece that fastens at the neck is really nice too. looks like it could add a level of protection too. which is good.

I'm not 100% sold on the blue AND black perhaps it would be better as multiple tones of blue. i'm guessing they're supposed to be different materials. so a visual difference is a good idea, but i think the two colors is excessive.

Overall it's really good.

It's so hard to re-design The Hulk lol, I've never even thought of trying it until now. I don't know what I would do differently, without doing an entirely new take on it. Like giving him some sort of uniform, and/or making him more deformed looking. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y138/artistsean/cast%20anything/CapsCostumeSeanIdeawithshield.jpg

Possible spoilers in my description of the costume here:

The director has said that his costume is based on the USO costume the army makes him wear, which is based heavily on Kirby's WWII costume. He wears the USO costume and is seen on the battle field by the troops wearing it. This inspires them and he becomes a symbol.Steve later alters the costume for to be used in combat. We have been told that the costume will make the red stripes straps.
So my thinking is, why would he change his costume that he is known for so much? My thinking is he merely alters it somewhat for combat. So we could get a movie costume very true to the comic version.

His mask would be a reinforced helmet, with molded forhead and eyebrow ridge (giving his eyebrows a more heroic look too).
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/6/61378/1174131-push_chris_evans_without_dakota_fanning_medium.jpg (http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/6/61378/1174131-push_chris_evans_without_dakota_fanning_super.jpg)

His wings on his mask would not be wings that stick out, but they would not just be painted on. They would be like patches, or relief (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relief),where they are somewhat 3D (http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?t=320367&page=146#), but not completely. That would include the wings without making them too out there for some viewers I think.
In his WWII costume, the one he wears in the first film (http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?t=320367&page=146#) based on the Kirby USO show costume, his neck is exposed. But his collar could look something like this. The WWII helmet would strap on under his chin like one of the Ultimate versions. (when Cap is revived in modern times his neck area would no longer be exposed.) The helmet/neck/chain mail would all be different material. The helmet would be somewhat like Batman's in Dark Knight, somewhat. The neck would be a lighter cloth material, while the chain mail would be thicker armor. The chain mail would start at his shoulder area sort of.
Side note, I was watching the technology of Batman and they mentioned this real life military armor using ceramic plating or something. Maybe his chain mail armor could be reinforced ceramic plating (whatever they were talking about on that tech of batman).
The armpit areas would not have the chain mail plating, like the Ultimate version of Cap, in order to allow more comfort (http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?t=320367&page=146#) and move ability during combat. But unlike the Ultimate version, the armpit area would be blue. Made of the same material as his pants and collar/neck area on his costume.
His gloves and boots would have straps and buckles to keep them in place. His boots would fold over the straps and buckles to look like the pirate boots. (Or they could do the Hitch idea and have the red material over his combat boots.)
Like the director said, the red stripes would be straps. So the white material would be a lighter fabric while the straps would be thick leathery material. The straps would connect the chain mail armor to the belt. His belt would have pouches.
So his costume would have a few layers, the white shirt/blue costume/chain mail, which would help the look be visually interesting for the movie.
For the chain mail I would use John Cassaday's design, for the molded eyebrow mask too
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/6/61378/1174134-captain_america_10b_medium.jpg (http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/6/61378/1174134-captain_america_10b_super.jpg)

http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/6/61378/1174137-straps_medium.jpg (http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/6/61378/1174137-straps_super.jpg)

Things I could live without would be:
The exposed neck area, the pouches on the gloves, and the Captains ranking on his collar. All those I added but could do without, the exposed neck however was a tribute to Kirby's original design from Captain America #1 where he is punching Hitler.

By the way, the scales I went a little crazy on but it was meant to show that each is an individual hard protective scale. Not a pattern on a shirt and not a lighter material.

ok this is the first redesign i have done in a while ( i haven't been drawing much)

i have been in the mood for a iron man redesign since i am hyped for the movie so i tried to make him look meaner and scarier. i made the armor itself 7 feet tall i thought it might be scarier and lend to the idea iron man is a robot the turbine things are for power to help take the strain of tony's arc reactor i tried to make the suit reactor port thing a octagon its just a rough concept but i think its a badass looking suit oh and that is a scar on tony's face i was thinking this could be a very angery armor designed in the mists of demon in a bottle

so i would like ideas and opinions if thats cool with you guys :D

Ok thanks MOsteel I thought so but I was only like 20% sure

sorry man, i just don't think it really fits the character very well. Nothing against the drawing/design itself, and its a very creative idea as are most of your concepts, i just don't see magneto dressed like that. he has too much of an superiority-complex to dress like that. the bandana, the unshaven face, the wife-beater, the stained apron, just doesn't fit the regal, royality vibe that is often associated with magneto. in terms of the 1930's era, i see him more like Al Capone or Don Corleone type of character, a highly respected mob boss. i know it doesn't really have any relations to his powers, but if i had too, that's how i would envision him.

also, regardless of how drastic of a deviation, i can usually tell what character you are drawing. this one i didn't recognize until i read your post. again, i understand where you were coming from, and it would make sense that a person who can control metal would make a good blacksmith, i just don't see it in magneto. i hope you don't take it the wrong way. Just how i feel about it.

Nah man it's cool and I understand your reasoning that's why my original idea was a dicator maye blacksmithe magneto could be a ancestor or distant realative but yeah I can agree with what your saying that's like making wolverine a woodsculptor just because he has the metal claws

with that being said, i do think it's a matter of how you sell it. i can definitely see a story.

i like the hereditary angle. he could come from a humble background where his father was a blacksmith, and the reason is because he was also "good with metals" whether he knew it or not. you could even use magneto himself as a blacksmith prior to being in the holocaust, and subsequent events that lead him to become magneto as we know him today. so coming from a poor community, the only opportunity he had to feed his family with his talent was being a blacksmith, having the powers at a much earlier stage but never being able to use it to his full capacity. once he experienced the major events in his life, that was the end of his blacksmith days.

so it could work, there's definitely a good story there. Not as magneto as we know him today, but can be integrated into his origin story.

from project rooftop:

Luke Cage by Ray-Anthony Height

http://i46.tinypic.com/2hgwk8h.jpg

http://www.tencentticker.com/projectrooftop/

Rachel: I’m not sure how I feel about the steel-toed wellies–I think something sleeker would have been a better match for the bodysuit–but the costume is pretty sharp. He looks kinda like a fighting game character, and it’s certainly no sillier than either of the canonical costumes pictured.

Vito: While he certainly doesn’t need the steel toes (what’s a welly?), it reminds me of Timberland boots, in a way. The only real issue I have is the “Cage” on his side. I prefer to call him “Power Man,” myself. But I love the color scheme and the chain motif.

Rachel: Short for wellingtons–rain boots, which are what those remind me of. You’re right that they’re probably closer to Timberlands, though, in which case the steel toe makes more sense.

Chris: I like how the guantlets and belt carry over the steel chain vibe from the original costume, but overall it’s a little bit too slick for Luke’s tastes IMHO.

Dean: Sweet (Christmas)! I think a half-step between his current non-costume might be an easier sell (maybe the top with jeans?), but I love the modified color scheme and return to costumed superheroing. But the truly brilliant bit here is the negative space chain icon hidden in the “C” in the “CAGE” logo. Very cool. The earring’s gotta go, though.

i gave him open toes cause i could never understand how his wall climbing ability works through shoes i gave him a masked inspired by the hollow masks in bleach i put the wen slingers in gauntlets cause i felt it would give them protection and again i could never understand how he hides them and the holes for them to shot out of do well

now i gave him the knife for basic self defense and some utility but not for killing i also wanted to give him a ninja feel cause i think he would be a awesome ninja

i like it, the things i would do, becuase i dont like bleach and i dont think Spidey should ever weild a knife, make the face on that mask a mask like he usuall wears, and drop the knife, but thats just me, but a good job on the redesign

Cool maybe I'll do a mod tomorrow since it would be major changes but you like the feet and web slinger ideas

Sorry about the knife when I started he was going to be a actual ninja in feudal japan

Cool idea, contextually i could deal with feudal ninja spidey wielding a knife

this is pretty cool buddy. (almost as good as the nightwing).could you do one with silver shin guards in the similar design to the guantlets and the socks/feet red?

and would like to see him with the mask on. nice work. i like it. like ST said, i dont' really picture spidey with a knife, but i really like the design.

They really aren't gauntlets though there his web shooters and I was going to do shin guards but I figured they would weigh him down and be unnecessary and clumsy the gauntlet things are a must cause they are the housing for his web shooters which in reality cannot be hidden under a spandex suit

But I am working on a quick feudal era spider-man so I will work the shin guards into him and I was planning on having him wearing full mask

M.O.Steel

i would, but that was part of the redesign to give him a hockey mask type (if i'm not mistaken), i didn't want to take that away and make it too close to the actual design.

I was going for a Japanese kinda mask like I said I was going for the masks from bleach

I've started a new superhero redesign website, and our first contest is going live mid-October, however we're accepting submissions now. The contest is to re-design Robin. For this contest, there will be a prize. Check it out at superheroofthemonth.blogspot.com (http://www.superheroofthemonth.blogspot.com).

I didn't like how the new Spider-Girl just took Arachne's old costume. I like how the suit looks, but I feel that she'd look cooler if she used her own color scheme. If this Spider-Girl book's goal is to rake in new readers I guarantee you that newer readers will think she's infected with the symbiote or something. I think the majority of superheroes' costumes should be bold and bright. I liked Arana's original color scheme which was white and red so I tried to return her to that. This is what I came up with. What do you guys think?
