Alright, here is my attempt at redesigning Spider-Man. Much like Superman, I think Spidey's costume is perfection plain and simple. The overall design of his suit is simple, but works perfectly for his character. This is just my idea for a 'what if' with Spider-Man. I'm not sure if I'm 100% satisfied with this design, I might give it another go but Spidey's suit is a tough one to design. Here are a few notes of what I wanted to do with the suit...

- The lenses would be dark to give more of an insect appearance

- The spider emblem and webbing on the costume would be the same color as the dark blue bodysuit so they would 'blend' in seamlessly with the rest of the costume

- There would be an open hole on his wrist so he can shoot webbing (which would be organic)

- The web pattern on his chest would mimic an actual spider web in the sense that the center of the spider web would be behind the emblem....the web pattern would essentially flow outward instead of straight down like the traditional version does

- There would be a patch on his palm where he presses down on to shoot webbing (no reason I just added it)

- The gloves would come to a point slightly below his elbom

- The red area around his abdomen would raise to his mid-ribs on both sides

Get rid of the blue collar (let the red webbed material continue up into the mask) and you've got a winner.

Like everyone has said, make the neck area red and that would be awesome. I damn near want to see that as the official Spidey suit. SEND THAT S**T TO MARVEL!! :D

Thanks, I would do the same effect with the webbing I just didn't have the time to sit there and color it as so. Glad you guys like it for the most part, maybe I'll go home and adjust the webbing so it flows up the neck.

That's NICE, gives him a very primal animalistic feel rather than just some dumb muscle head in a suit.

I think dark blue is hard to pull off when combined with other colours like red, it just ends up looking like it was just filled in with paint, which I know is definitely not the case. That's why I think it should be Red and Black, but I see your point.

Great pic, but don't you think it's a little too close to Ultimate Cap? you've even got the pouches on his gloves and belt. I really can't see the difference between the two.

I really like the black and white costume design. The characters look to me like a very hanna barbera style of animation. Human torch looks a lot like Jonny Quest and invisble woman looks like a blonde Daphne from scooby doo.

That's the downside to sketching in pens, if you have an idea AFTER you've sketched something out then you're kinda stuck. I thought the darker eyes gave him a more mysterious appearance, and they also made him look more like an insect.

So I think I'm going to take someone's suggestion and tackle the Hulk as my next redesign. I am going to avoid the ripped clothing look and go for something more 'heroic' but nothing spandex and no big 'H's across his chest. I like the way they're going with the Hulk in Young Avengers so maybe I'll try something like that.

This is something I did while I was watching Smallville today. It's a redesign I've been wanting to do for awhile now. Since there are 4 main characters to do I thought I'd start off with my favorite of the 4....

-I gave him a full head scarf like I've seen some ninjas wear to give more of a mysterious look to him. The entire head/face would be wrapped so only the eyes would be visible.

-I ditched the elbow pads and wrist wraps and went for the entire forearm/hand wrap. Personally I think it gives them that 'tough' look.

-Since Raphael has the smallest weapons (sais) I made them easily concealable. Instead of having them in the front like he always has, I put them in the back at a horizontal angle. The handles of each would come out either side of his belt so he could just reach behind and grab them quickly.

-The belt would be just a basic piece of leather with 4 slots in the back to support the angle of his sais. I also got rid of the stupid letters they used to have on their belts...that was really lame.

I've been wanting to do the TMNT for awhile so I figured I'd start now. I'm not going to go through the entire cast of characters. I'll probably only do the turtles and The Shredder, no April, Casey or Splinter.

Sage, I like what you did with the turtles. It is nice to see the four of them have different looks, after all, they all have different personalities. The variation in the sizes is a nice idea too, they probably wouldn't have mutated to the same "exact" size. Nice work.

from what i've read i think it was suppose to be like covert ops version of thier respective costumes. i think originaly they were all black but gabriel thought then there was no distingushing look between them so he began redoing them to look more familiar to thier superhero personas.

While I think the Spider-Man costume is neat....I think it totally takes away what makes Spider-Man's original suit so perfect. The balance between light and dark. Plus...I'm not too fond of the 3 color scheme. Blue, Red, AND Black? He looks a bit TOO colorful.

very awsome. i really enjoy his stuff alot. its like combining the graphic intense style that is found tradiontionaly in comics mixed with the painting media that brings out some realism in terms to lighting. i hope marvel gives him some more stuff after secret wars. who knows he may turnout to be marvel's response to DC's alex ross. I always loved the simplicity of the designs, a nice clean uniform, easy for every artist to draw!!

Did you guys ever see the pic of cyclops in costume wearing a trenchcoat with the hood up?? Definition of cool!!!

When everyone else was adding superfluous belts and compartments to costumes Ross went the other way!! I wish they'd run with these designs!! It would have given the X-men a cool uniform look with those individual touches to each costume.

The other redesign I always loved (LOVED I SAY!!) was the Carlos Pacheo redesigns of the FF costumes that appeared in the comics. Those truly were fantastic and I thought they were an improvement!!

Ross was only trying to be simplistic so that all artists were able to draw the characters easier using the customs. I kinda like that their simple, plus it's always nice to see something new, something that is different from what has already been done.

Also, by just looking at all of them you get the sense that he was trying to give them some unity but still set all the characters apart. All of them have the same kinda of theme going on, but are different from each other.

Well it's true that those two movies were the only two that got the "leather suit" dealy. (oh and batman to) But anyways on alex ross he is very simplistic. I did enjoy seeing super heros as though they were "real". or at least what they would look like if they were real. That's not to say that im not a fan of the SUPER animated artists though. My personal style is nothing like ross'. It was nice to see that Ross got away from all that super deformed characters that formed in the 80's and returned to the so called "golden age" style. Michealangelo and Da Vinci are better painters overall, the paintings are beautiful. But their proportions are a tad off. Plus, their paintings weren't exactly realistic anyway, while Ross' paintings are. Makes sense he'd have a better grasp on proportion.

But comparing Ross to these is stupid because he is a realism painter, Michaelagelo and da Vinci were not.

um ... michelangelo and da vinci were attempting to achieve an ideal that are respective to their own aims. I dont think any comparison can be made to Ross. ross copys pictures and has created a finite amount of poses that he re hashes continuously at the admiration of those that would that similarly glorify Robert Bateman

Ross makes beautiful paintings, I won't argue that. But the problem I've found with artists who use photo reference that religiously often lose that dynamic quality to the human body, even if the subject is standing still. It's a little hard to explain, I guess. Its just something I've noticed in artists who use photos to get their poses, it ends up looking too stiff and almost unnatural.

um ... michelangelo and da vinci were attempting to achieve an ideal that are respective to their own aims. I dont think any comparison can be made to Ross. ross copys pictures and has created a finite amount of poses that he re hashes continuously at the admiration of those that would that similarly glorify Robert Bateman
