What do you think..... is Alba attracted to Ioan? What if she was turned off by him and kissing him was a chore for her? What would you tell her if that were the case?
Well, you were the one that brought up him having to think of all his fans just to make it through! Hmm...I imagine it can be hard to have these love scenes with virtual strangers, especially if you were not attracted to them. But, just think of the paycheck as consolation. Which brings up a point, do we know how much each of the actors are getting for each of their roles?
Of course, it could be somewhat fun getting to kiss strangers and getting paid for it. That's the way I'd look at it, as an adventure! *Cue Indiana Jones music*

Hmmm....I think I must've been in a hole somewhere during that time, because I totally missed that! But, I have seen a water bong made from one of those plastic tall novelty drink glasses (a la Joe's Crab Shack). It originally said "For a Killer Thirst" but they scratched some of the letters to say "For a Killer Hi". Impressive, in a juvenile sort of way. Ah, what people will do to get stoned.

I'm sure they both had to quaff a lot of nausea medication for that scene, they're both just so physically repulsive. Perhaps it even took more than one take! It's enough to make one's heart bleed. I feel sorry for them both.
Oh, and novelty glasses and beverage containers are for drinking from. Drugs suck.

Unless you're a cancer patient.
Count me as a supporter of any strategy to ease a cancer patient's suffering. However, I sincerely doubt that easing the pain of debilitating illness really amounts to more than a sliver of the kind of drug use that might make one do creative things with beverage containers.
By the way, there are very far more potent anti-nausea meds out there for cancer patients. A close family member of mine had great need of them at one time and they were a blessing.

Ah, Mrs. F, did I say I USED the water bong?!?!? Nope, just said I SAW the water bong. And it was eons ago, although it was impressive, the ingenuity some use! Now, if they would transfer that to real life instead of drug use, it'd be a better use of their time.
Back when I was in high school, I once knew someone who made a pot pipe out of a coffee can and a ballpoint pen. But, he's in prison now, so let that be a lesson to all you kiddies out there....use drugs responsibly?!?!? Oh wait, that's not what Mrs. F wants to hear. :D

it'd be cool if mr fantastic will use his stretchy powers and wrap his arms all over the girl's bod.
wow i actually have a reed question, sorry if this came up already: yep he can stretch, but is he strong enough to make that useful? i mean if he reaches for the top of a lamp post, can he yank it out when he retracts his arm back? damn i really need to start reading the comics.

As I understand it, he's not supposed to be any stronger than he was before the accident. And that the further he stretches the less strong he actually is. I have no idea if this is true in the movie or not.

" yep he can stretch, but is he strong enough to make that useful? "
Oh yes he can´-dont forget mister F can not only stretch, but alter shape and volume-he can even shape himself in a sail and fly- or for example,he can use his stretching to make a pretty "whip" effect by which he can whack a good number of men and make them almost go flying in the air.He can accumulate his body density in one point, as we see when he makes the showy giant fists or feet, and if he´s mad enough, in the Kirby times he made the suppossedly evil Thing stagger with a blow. But my favourite Mister F effect is the pop corn bag-he inflates and inflates and inflates....must be seen to be believed. And sorry about my vomitive English.

In the comics, one major reason to build the ship they flew was to help defend humanity from extraterrestrial threats that the government alone kept a secret from the general public. I wonder if there will be any type of mentioning in this film about the extraterrestrial being Gormuu conguering earth or something like that. Even a slight nod towards it. In the comics, Reed was responsible for completing the starship in a timely fashion on account that the Federal government threatened to pull the funds, thus forcing Reed to take that test flight. The purpose for the ship wasn't just to beat the Communists.....
Doom being in the flight , Doom owning the ship, all these changes could still keep the ET threat factor intact. Plus, it's a reasonably fitting set up for the Galactus/SS tie....... either way a major part of the F4's adventures, especially future ones with the SS crossover involve Alien life. It would make prefect sense for them to incorporate the ET threat into the initial flight.

I dont know, Orange...as I´m not very optimistic about the inclusion of Galactus and Silver Surfer in a sequel-if there is a sequel,I dont see references to an extraterrestial threat in this movie-I can ever picture the ever handy scientific or genetic experiments as the main motive of the expedition, even if it could be funny to have a little X-File conspirancy involving Doom the tycoon with a hidden agenda of alien-finding on his own.

Anyways, the latest news on the subject is that, the SS will have his own movie as Marvel film's next big thing, and then they plan to do a F4 SS crossover film. I suspect they may have a cameo of the F4 in the SS movie, but you never know.....and no, I don't see it as being a main objective for them going on the flight, but not only would it not hurt to add it, but it would also add to it, for future referrences. Of course that with 44 years of comic books stories, very few people can say they are experts in an ever changing character. My case is...even if here in Spain we know the last run of stories, with delay, the Reed I´m familiar with is the one of the sixties and seventies, more or less, thatnks to many pocket formats of Forum editions. What I must say is...it´s lucky Mister F lost the body building shape they gave him-and all supers-in the seventies, or our slender Ioan would have had troble, even with his apdded suit.

Oh I'm just teasing "orange". :) He ribbed me a few times in the past for my over zealousness for Ioan. When I see the opportunity, I like to play back! http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/contrib/ed/ehh.gif
I'm just grateful for the thread where we can post whatever our Reed Richards/"Mr. Fantastic"/Ioan Gruffudd "speciality" is! I just wish I knew more about the comic book character. http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/otn/sad/face20.gifOne reason I opened it was to take all the girls here's attention off of the fact that I've pretty much needed as many excuses I's cans gets to's talks abouts broads of all types within the actress/modeling world....at least talk about them here on these comic book boards, anyways. This was a world I was promised, but haven't recieved. I mean, they were supposed to act like the way I grew up watching them as. I didn't know they had needs, or opposite personalities from the ones they presented. It's wrong I tell you! It's a bunch of lies, and I smell conspiracy! Now, we've got little girls and early teens; the rich ones acting like Paris Hilton, the poor ones like Ashlee Simpson, and the real bad seeds like Anna Nicole Smith and so forth. Sure, they may be funny to watch, but would they be much fun to eat with, much less mesh you lifestyle with........
......anyway, I hope it made some sense, my therapist, Dr Louie Rocco, who happens to also be my dentist told me all this, and I took it into consideration. Man, these vicadins are great.:yellow: Well, until next time, I think as much love there is in this thread, I......say, keep up the good work.
Yay! Ioan for Mr Fantastic damnit!

Mister Fantastic
Of course that with 44 years of comic books stories, very few people can say they are experts in an ever changing character. My case is...even if here in Spain we know the last run of stories, with delay, the Reed I´m familiar with is the one of the sixties and seventies, more or less, thatnks to many pocket formats of Forum editions. What I must say is...it´s lucky Mister F lost the body building shape they gave him-and all supers-in the seventies, or our slender Ioan would have had troble, even with his apdded suit.

Well, if it's any consolation to those formerly in the "George for Mr. Fantastic!" camp, in getting Ioan, you're getting someone, if nothing else, is at least 22 1/2x the actor Clooney is. I love George Clooney, but only when he's inhabiting the rather small niche of roles that he does well. Playing smart people is, for me, not one of the things he excels at.

I like Ioan as the role, due to the fact that he can play these brainy fabulous characters well. But, I think George can pull off playing smarter characters as well, he just hasn't been given an opportunity.
You know who actually looks dumb (and doesn't choose his roles well lately) but is very smart? Ben Affleck. Just thought I'd drag that in.

No.Really I dont like him, not even a jaw dropping resemblance, even considering the graying hair and that no comic book character has ever been drawn with the same fatures even sometimes even drawn by the same artist. The time I can understand this unanimity "it has to be him"about George, and I was sick of reading about it much much before Ioan Gruffudd was announced among the general shock, will be the time I´m near death. Ioan looks younger than the Reed Richards we´re used to see from my idolized Buscema´s days, not to mention the tons of muscle he lacks, but he has benefited from the stylization Reed has undergone from Byrne´s run,
http://members.aol.com/thefightingfury/whoclix/mrfan.gifThere we go again
not to mention this Wieringo who was drawing him now.Not that resemblance is of much importance-I´ve seen Reed drawn looking suspiciously like Sean Penn, for leches sake. The main thing is Gruffudd can play this kind of roles with his hand tied in his back, if he has role enough and feels motivated.

For some, not for others. There are many types of minds, and many different types of ways to gather knowledge and experience. If this is the kind of person you prefer...and I can see why it would be, given that you love books so much...that's wonderful, but it's too myopic a view to apply with a broad brush to the world.

I'm not trying to gang up on you....just want to prove that Ioan is at least an advocate of reading, even if he isn't a huge reader himself.
I read somewhere in an interview where he said that it isn't that he doesn't like to read...he just doesn't have the time with his hectic schedule. I don't think it means literally that he never ever picks up a book. I think he "stretches his natural intelligence into brillance" with every performance he gives instead!
Here is an interesting article that I found in our forum on ioanonline. Every year the UK and Ireland promote World Book Day that encourages people there to read. Ioan was involved in 2001 in a new campaign: "Get Caught Reading"........
<<<The Stars Get Caught Reading for World Book Day
Bestselling cook, Jamie Oliver, Olympic gold medal-winning boxer, Audley Harrison, Nigella Lawson, Suggs from Madness, star of 102 Dalmatians and television's Hornblower, Ioan Gruffudd, and writer and broadcaster, Tony Hawks, have all lent their support to a new reading initiative – Get Caught Reading, to be launched on World Book Day.
The Get Caught Reading Campaign is aimed at people, particularly in the 18-34 year age group, who have yet to discover – or may have forgotten – the pleasures of reading. A series of eye-catching advertisements* have been produced with celebrities, photographers and designers all donating their services to the campaign. Get Caught Reading was inspired by a very successful campaign in the United States which featured, among others, Whoopi Goldberg and Rosie O'Donnell.
The stars were asked to choose their favourite books for Get Caught Reading. Jamie Oliver chose Adrian Mole: The Cappuccino Years by Sue Townsend (currently showing on BBC ONE) whilst Audley Harrison, who was photographed in the library of the Oxford Union, opted for Fight the Power by Colin McMillan, the inspirational story of the former British featherweight champion.
Domestic goddess, Nigella Lawson, took some time off from the kitchen to read The Raymond Chandler Papers. Bowler-hatted Suggs chose Peter Ackroyd's award-winning biography of London while Ioan Gruffudd selected Omega by Geraint Jones. Tony Hawks, having almost beaten the Moldovans at tennis, was caught reading I Know Absolutely Nothing About Tennis by Tracy Austin and Steve Eubanks.
The campaign will be seen in a range of national newspapers and magazines as well as on outdoor advertising sites around the country. A series of radio shorts is also planned. The media campaign has been orchestrated by Nigel Potter of Total Media.
The images will also be used on posters in bookshops on World Book Day. The posters have been printed free of charge by Butler & Tanner.
* all images are available electronically or as prints
World Book Day is the biggest celebration of books and reading in the UK. Fourteen million tokens are distributed to every schoolchild, thousands of special events take place in bookshops, libraries, arts centres and schools all over the country and a million copies of five special books will be published.
Notes to Editors
· Jamie Oliver was photographed by David Loftus.
· Audley Harrison was photographed by Luca Zampedri.
· Nigella Lawson was photographed by Francesca Yorke.

No, it's not.
But it is worth venting a little over a style of communicating that is inherently dishonest. That's what, apparantly, the seed for the exchange in question was -- a way to instigate a response for the purpose of observing people responding rather than communicating in any meaningful way. Kind of like the Aunt Petunia thing, although on a much less grand level, obviously.
I dont care about the topic of the exchange per se, but rather the intent behind it. That's what bugs. Perhaps I overreact -- it wouldn't be the first time. In fact, it wouldn't be the first time today. However, that kind of manipulation is just about my #1 pet peeve.

No one is fighting Orange. That's what a discussion board is all about: opinions, disagreements, people getting the hair up on their backs sometimes, defending what you believe in etc. It was just a back and forth exchange of one person saying one thing and the other person not agreeing with it.
It's like when you guys get upset when someone comes over from one of the other boards and trashes "FF"!! I've seen what you say in some of those posts!! The arguement there could be that it's just a bunch of comic book characters, right? But it's something you feel strongly about because it's something you enjoy and believe in. Well, it's no different with us Ioanites who have strong defense mechanisms when someone says something we don't agree with about him. So what's the difference when you come right down to it? We're both the same. :)
As far as the part where you say he wouldn't give you the time of day, if you've read some of my other posts, I've detailed stories where Ioan has gone way out of his way when he didn't have to to fans he has met, including some of our own members on ioanonline. The guy is actually too accommodating to a fault. His publicist or manager usually has to grab him by the arm and yank him away because he spends too much time being gracious with his fans.
I think it's nice to know that we got a nice guy, and not an ass playing "Mr. Fantastic". I think you'll see the payoff of this as it gets closer to the release date and after and all of the publicity it generates.

I didn't care about that, just the other part, about dishonesty and manipulation. You've explained yourself, which I appreciate greatly. My intense dislike for the kind of interaction -- instigating just to watch the reaction for amusement's sake -- is undimmed, but I see that no harm was intended. I got snappy and said some unkind things, which was wrong of me and I apologize for that. I should be a little more tolerant, since my preferred way of interacting on this board -- sarcasm! -- also has the potential to rub people the wrong way, even when I don't intend it to. It probably has, in fact.
I don't think life's ever too short to discuss matters if one feels that one has been offended. You explained what you meant, and I understood you. Next time, I won't jump in, if I don't know how to play. I shall just retire and wait for a discussion that I can actually contribute to!

I shall have to wait for the next level of avatar mightiness for that spectacle AMW, but I shall keep it in mind! I had a darling little 50x50 disco ball picked out -- unfortunately, it was animated and thus too big a file. Then I had a delightful "blasting zone ahead" warning sign, that was slightly too large. But a blue sky with fluffy white clouds is always nice.

"That" was one of Ioan´s first attempts to get big movie roles. 102 Dalmatians.-so I´m sure the substance he´s fooling with is not snot, but better still-false doggie´s drool, made to enhance one of his character´s main pooches, called in the movie with great imagination "Drooler".

:) Okay...there's a challenge Modernchic...where does the term "bookworm" come from? I can't see much connection between a book and a worm! Unless it's because one could perhaps bury oneself in books? ;)
Kathy
OK, for the expression bookworm (this is, I beileve, the origin of the word): There is a beetle, whose larvae (worm) eats cellulose. Books are one of its favorite munchies, but will also eat wooden furniture (so for those thrifters out there, check any used wooden furniture carefully for suspicious small holes before buying...especially if you have wooden floors!), wooden floors, so on. I have seen the damage these critters do firsthand...they basically bore into books leaving noticeable holes throughout a book. They often are in wooden furniture and sense a book resting on top of said furniture and just go through the top of the furniture and into the book....even through cloth hardback coverings. You can stop an infestation by putting the book in the deep freezer, but if they are in furniture, I am not sure how to treat that. Thus, a bookworm, and those who pore over books become equated with the beetle larvae. Many very old old old antique wooden furniture (say, from the medieval era and early Renaissance) have small worm holes from antiquity. So, hopefully, this sheds light on the mysterious bookworm. :D

Someone posted -- and gained people's trust -- as an attractive young woman, but was really a man. Some of the guys sent photos, etc. It was all very dishonest and manipulative. And creepy. At least that was my take on it. Others found it amusing, and pointed and laughed at those who were trusting. Because that's how some people are. It's relatively recent history.

I am most fond of his physique as well, however, there's no way that those are his unadorned pecs. :D Not that I care in the least. The body that's been overly sculpted in the gym isn't the type of body that floats my boat. But still...he had some help with the pecs.

I think Ioan looks superb as Reed.He has not bad shoulders of his own(sigh), so the pec help was the most spectacular homage to superheroic conventions-and nothing compared to what Reed Richards went through since his first appearance, when he was a tall skinny guyhttp://www.eclipsepaper.com/ff1lavkg.jpg
To the moment of truth when the group got his uniforms, Reed started to get hunkified and not only in face,as he and to fill the pijamas, and wee, miracle!

http://www.ffplaza.com/images/covers/vol1/ff84.jpg
And the moment of delirium, whem either Reed decided to work out like a maniac seeing Sue´s fixation with Namor or he inflated himself using his elasticity-: look at the torax of Reed number 2.
http://ksacomics.com/fant/2/110.jpg
And from there to artists like Rick Buckler or Ron Wilson, when Mister Fantastic almost became the world fittest middle aged body builder, or Thor´s cousin. Until the eighties, where his musculature started to get a little

The new version of the wallpaper is too splendiferous for words, not only compared to the previous version but of course making the Mister F´s of the videogame cover-it´s the video game, the expresionist drawing that started the series with the same posse, look like Reed Richard´s distant cousin from Cáceres
http://inlandempirestrikesback.net/v-web/gallery/albums/FantasticFour/GameInformer.sized.jpg
Happy to see the smirk, in drawing and wallpapers-I only have to see the captures from the trailer to see that Ioan, the guy with the most gorgeous, dimpled and infectious big smile imaginable will follow his comic book character( who spent his first year or more with two expressions, serious and very serious) and will do in this movie something he does very well in movies: be very serious and brood full time. Exquisite and full of divinity.

I dont know wether I unerstand your point, Orange-but I think the shape-morphing is the funniest part of Reed´s powers. I even remember he changed identity completely in the comics I had, once to a moloid and another, even if this I only remeber vaguely´so I´m not sure to that repulsive Doom´s scientist with the folkloric surname. And then there are the two highest points in his career, when he imitated Namor´s face and the manta fish.Speially the manta fish.

Well it's been four years and they seem to be very happy. You're right.....he could have had anyone but he chooses to be with her and vice-versa. There are things about her that some Ioan fans don't particularly like. They have in their heads the ideal woman that they think he should be with. We don't know either of them, so I feel pretty certain, being both mature adults and around the block a few times with different relationships, that they know what they want in a significant other! Here's a better pic of them, especially her....http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v668/Pudgewill/UK_premiere_c.jpg

Poor Alice. She did get a lot of flack from so many of Ioan's fans when she wore that dress to his King Arthur Premiere in London... After I got over the initial shock of seeing a body part of Alice's that I never thought I would lay eyes on, I decided that I loved the dress and thought she looked absolutely spectacular in it!!! Red is definitely her colour!!! http://apache.airnet.com.au/~fidge/battingeyelashes.gif And let's face it gals....he loves her and she is absolutely smitten with him...she is definitely here to stay so we'd better get used to it!!!! :p
I hope that Ioan and Jessica (and respective partners!) met up at the Hollywood style awards and had a super time!!! :)

Yes, in her defense, the peekaboo nipple appeared to be an accident. The dress was quite nice and she looked fabulous in it. Of course, given how she usually dresses at such functions, this may well have been an accident as well. :p

Hmmm....what could you call this? ^^ http://apache.airnet.com.au/~fidge/thinking.gif A backhanded compliment perhaps? http://www.superherohype.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif I really like the way she looked here as well... Yes, that's a nice look for her as well. I also notice that for every "cat that ate the canary" look photo of her, there's a similar photo of him with a similarly pleased expression. :)
I don't know why he chose her over me! True, I'm fortysomething and somewhat plus-sized, but I have much better taste in clothes than Alice does, I get my hair done before the roots start to show, I can be witty without being bi+chy, and I would happily shun expensive jewelry and a jet set lifestyle for a Tivo with more memory. I'm quite sure I'm what you'd call a fabulous catch! ;)

Yup, that's much better! That's going to be a great scene I think. It's probably the pivital moment in the finale where Mr.Fantastic is the underdog that fights back.
It's strange though. It looks like Dr.Doom doesn't have his organc metal or mask on. Is there something in the script I missed? I thought Doom only changes the Thing back to his normal self towards the finale, but not himself. Maybe he still has the powers just not the same face.
