OK everyone, I'm jealous of Ioan Gruffud getting to be Jessica's love interest. Jealousy is not good. It's bad. I need to change. But the key to heal myself of such jealousy is to be able to look apon the face of whom I envy.I need to discuss and express my frustrations. And I also need to become accepting of who he is. Therefore I open the Ioan Gruffud as Mr. Fantastic thread. Hopefully I'll be fully healed by next July......
Soooooo wheres the BIO oh Reed???

Soooooo wheres the BIO oh Reed???Who is he?
Dr. Reed Richards is a scientist, who, prior to Issue #1 had
been working on a space craft, which was about to have its funding
cut off. In a last ditch attempt to get the flight off the ground,
Reed, his fiance (Sue Storm), his fiance's brother (Johnny Storm),
and one of his college classmates and a test pilot (Ben Grimm),
snuck through security to take the shuttle for a test flight. Turns
out that there wasn't enough shielding, and the Fantastic Four was
born.
Reed is the brains behind the FF, and he was basically their
leader for the first 381 Issues or so, until his "death". Since then
the team's leadership has come into question.
He and Sue were married in Annual #3, and their child,
Franklin was born in Annual #6. Reed's father, Nathaniel Richards,
was introduced in Issue #273.
What are his powers?
Reed has the ability to stretch or reform his body in just
about any way that he chooses. He can stretch to about 1500 feet
before the onset of pain. He can use his body as a sort of a
catapault for both objects and people; this catapaulting ability
can be used to fire projectiles back at their original firer. He
often uses his body to wrap around people that he wishes to detain.
He can reduce his molecular cohesion, and become a "blob" of sorts.
He can expand his body and use it as a makeshift glider. He can
slim down enough for his body to fit through the eye of a needle.
Mr. Fantastic is often considered the weakest member of the
group, although there he must have some element of super strength,
considering the people and items that he has picked up/catapaulted/
ferried, etc.

wow flight..when you open a thread you certainly go all out.
I can understand your jealousy but remember you have a lady so take comfprt in that:)
Of all the cast he was the only one i was unsure of.I'm a big chiklis and Jess fan and julian is class in nip/tuc so again i was happy with the choice.I'd never heard of evans until i saw he'd got the FF part but i was just happy it wasn't paul walker..lol.
Now as for Ioan i know he can act but i'm just hoping he can keep his american accent all the way through as his welsh one is very strong.

Soderbergh would have made the "look at us, how achingly cool are we" FF movie:rolleyes:
Wasn't there also talk of Renee Zellwegger as Sue ? *shudder*

First of all , thank you for starting this thread "flight26"!!
If you need to feel better, I suggest getting yourself over to www.ioanonline.com (http://www.ioanonline.com/) where you'll find a lot of others who suffer from your malady! If you want to "look upon that face" there is a huge Gallery of pics on which to gaze...some of which have already been posted here by "albafan" and myself.
As far as worrying about his strong Welsh accent (as showcased in the video link in the above filmography post) and whether or not he can pull off an "American" one....don't worry. Just check out this video link from ioanonline and I think you'll see that he does a great job. especially after listening to both links!.....
http://www.ioanonline.com/video/CCep2-c.zip
Other than the recent "King Arthur" film, most of his work has been in the UK. It's too bad that a lot of these projects are hard to come by to watch, as most are on PAL version of VHS tapes, if available. His best work, in my opinion, have been in these roles.....Solomon in "Solomon and Gaenor" which was nominated for an academy award for "Best Foreign Film".....and Lt. John Feeley in "Warriors".
Of course playing "Horatio Hornblower" was what finally made people sit up and take notice. It paved his way for getting his foot in the door and his subsequent gamble on moving to America and trying to make it in Hollywood. There's talk of continuing to make additional episodes, now that the estate of the author of these books, on which the series is based, has been settled.
From the statements of people who have worked with him, both cast and crew, to the lucky few fans from our own Ioan board who have had the pleasure of personally meeting him, they say he's the most down to earth, friendly, humble human being they've met. I just know he'll be the "Dr. Reed Richards you're all looking for in this film!
(BTW......just thought I'd mention that there are two "d's" in the spelling of his last name.)
you mean Ocean's 12? I'm sure gonna see it.Like you I knew there was nooooooooo frigginway he was about to do F4. Nooooooooooooo I meant "Oceans 11"...."Oceans 12" is the sequel.... and I didn't like "From Dusk 'till Dawn"...

i think Ioan is perfect as Reed, he has that handsome dorkiness look down :) i could see where they thought Clooney would be a good Reed though because of his age, look, name etc but i think Ioan was the better choice because Clooney would be really old by the end of the third movie. Ioan just fits in with the rest of the cast perfectly IMO

The real player vid doesnt work for me:( still the word of the ladies on the board is good enough for me:)
Ioanfan could probably do a much better Bio on Ioan than I can...so I'll leave this one to the expert...LOL
Ohhh BTW...I too think Ioan will be perfect for Reed...I first heard that Chiklis had the part of Ben and I was so excited...then I went to see King Arthur...and I thought who is that good-lookin guy playing Lancelot...later I found out he had the part of Reed and again I thought they made the perfect choice...I then heard that Jessica was up for the part of F4 and I knew they had a certain direction they were wanting to go with this movie and I liked the direction...I didn't know that much about Chris but after I saw him in "Cellular" I knew they had made the right choice...so to make a long story short...I'm excited about this cast...

Here's a question...has Marvel ever made any books that focus on Reed and Victor's pre-FF #1 days? Supposedly they were friends/rivals before Doom's attempt to contact his mother in the netherworld, but all I've ever seen are flashbacks of Doom's origin.
Since the movie will most likely reference a prior Reed/Doom connection, I was wondering if there was anything we had to connect it to, like the young Xavier/Magnus stories from the X-Men. Besides, wouldn't it be cool to see the two as young men teaming up against those pre-Marvel monsters like "Receptico, the trash can that walked like a man" ?

Priceless!!!^^^^^
Well as argumentative as comicbookgeeks are (us @ SHH), I being one, must humbly ask all of you to understand me at least expressing where I'm coming from here. I say this because the reason I diss Ioan the way I do even sounds lame even to me.....
Me being a 26 year old who sells his sculpture and does extra shoots (freelance100%) not only for a living but also to passionately be a guitar player/ song writer,I have to face a few realities that I'm sure many of you all here face just fine. The S>O>Bs (mainly with the sculpture, extras agents are pretty leinient) I constantly have to impress in order to recieve my paycheck with the most stupid minute details year after year have made me live in a reality that has made me see life like," OK, well it used to be me being the designer leading the way, now it's them deciding what they're gonna buy from me, I must only do the stuff they want...they lead the way." Money$$.
Marvel used to deal with the same ups and downs (only on a way larger level:rolleyes: ) as I'm sure you all know. Broke as hell at times but still relied on risky as hell projects that could have made a difference in whether or not anyone ate or not. Marvel silver age is one of my favorite success stories ever. They still almost lost their A**! As much as alot of people on these SHH boards despise Avi Arad, he is in fact responsible for pulling Marvel ent. out of bankruptcy. Now Marvel is juggling with Millions instead of thousands. It's as risky as the music industry.
Now back to the music industry, there once was a time as I'm sure you all know, where the whole industry was based on CD(/tape/record/8track) sales. Now it's live shows and performances(thanx to ol'WWW). A change in a band member could destroy everything! Ronnie James Dio will never hold up to Ozzy for Black Sabbath.Van Halen without David Lee Roth will always be "Van Hagar", Van Halen with Gary Cherone knocked VH off the chess set. Dave Navarro could have killed the Chili Peppers had John Frusciante not returned,, and NOOOOONE I know will ever accept Snoop Dog in Easy E's place fronting NWA> how many tickets are not gonna be bought here.........< So WHAT THE HELL DOES ANY OF THIS HAVE TO DO WITH IOAN GRUFFUD?
Lets look at Jessica Alba..... I don't just have a guess here. I have an educated guess here. After the news she was cast, I thought for about one whole minuit and then I was....SHE'S PERFECT!!. This came from years of doing what I do but also from looking at singers like the one from that 80's cheese metal band Krokus (they weren't that bad),in the same kind of light that Beavis and Butthead would look at him,"That Hairdo SUCKS! Look at his head" Every one who feels that way about Alba may not be about to rush out and go see the F4! Well, seeing who plays A major personality like Reed Richards is probably gonna bring some attention.....not always the best but oh, well. ..
Ioan just doesn't do it for me as Reed Richards. They could have picked someone better and it's not my job to find that perfect someone, it's theirs. I have given them the benifit of the doubt on a lot of thing so far, but I'm finding myself reminding myself..."oh they know what they're doing, think of how noone wanted Huge Jackman ..etc" DO THEY REALLY KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING? Risks is the name of the game in the movie making world, but...they really could have done better than Ioan.
Sorry, not convinced yet....thanks anyway.
Ioanfan, I promise to watch all the stuff you mentioned as it is within my convenience (but I will do so respectfully). Albafan, you need to rethink Clooney's performance in Dusk....
Surfer, I'm buying King Arthur ASAP.........

In the wake of Fox upcoming feature "FANTASTIC FOUR", and the big screen debut of the Marvel character 'Mr. Fantastic' (able to stretch EVERY part of his body into super-lithe positions), the ("Matrix") Wachowski Bros., Warner Bros and Steven Spielberg's Amblin are closer to greenlighting "PLASTIC MAN", based on the 1940's comic book character, pre-dating all other 'elongated man' super heroes.
Jim Carrey remains front-runner to portray 'Eel O'Brien' a reformed criminal who acquires the powers of 'elasticity'.
Created by Jack Cole in 1941, "Plastic Man" was published by Quality Comics, then to DC Comics beginning in 1966.

Surfer, I'm buying King Arthur ASAP.........
wat up Hunta?
I cannot believe I read the whole thing....now to the point of Clooney's role in Dusk....his role was not the problem...I just don't like violent movies...thats all....;)

Ioanfan could probably do a much better Bio on Ioan than I can...so I'll leave this one to the expert...LOLThank you albafan! Here it is.....
BIOGRAPHY........
Ioan Gruffudd (pronounced Yo-Awn Griffith) was born on October 6, 1973 in Cardiff, Wales to teachers, Peter and Gillian Gruffudd. Ioan is the eldest of three siblings. He has a brother Alun and a sister named Siwan. Welsh is Ioan's mother tongue, but like all people of Wales, they must master English as well.
He developed an early interest in performing. This interest was directed at music, rather than acting, and Gruffudd developed into an accomplished oboist and singer while he was growing up. At the age of eleven, he decided to give acting a whirl, and two years later, he became a professional actor with a role in the Welsh soap opera "Pobol Y Cwm" ("People of the Valley").
Gruffudd's interest in acting proved lasting, and he was accepted at London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts when he was eighteen. Graduating in June of 1995, he almost immediately got work. His early projects included: a role in The Decameron, a play at the Gate Theater; and in a 1996 UK tv detective series "A Mind to Kill" episode titled "Strange Territory". Winning a plum role as Jeremy Poldark in a remake of the popular British "Poldark" saga, in 1996, could have launched his career as a major star, but the film was not as popular as the original mini-series and no more episodes were scheduled.
The year 1997 was when Ioan started garnering notice from a world-wide audience. Simultaneously he played two supporting roles: John Grey in "Wilde" and the role that would win him acclaim from fans, Fifth Officer Lowe in the Hollywood blockbuster, "Titanic". Fans marvelled at his acting ability and good looks, as well as identifying with the character he played. Fifth Officer Lowe was the only person who went back to rescue survivors from the icy water.
It was his title role in "Horatio Hornblower" that catapulted Ioan to full-fledged stardom. An exquisitely made miniseries, Ioan's ability to embody the role of Horatio dazzled fans and critics alike. Other leading roles followed. He won strong notices for his performance in the role of Solomon in the 1998 film "Solomon and Gaenor", and that same year he earned additional raves for playing Pip in the 1999 Masterpiece Theater rendition of "Great Expectations". Ioan joined an ensemble cast, playing Lt. John Feeley in the 1999 BBC film "Warriors". He also played Jack, in the "Masturbation" episode in the controversial British series Love in the 21st Century in 1999. In 2000 he filmed "Another Life", where he played Freddie Bywater, and Disney's 102 Dalmations where he played Kevin. Ioan also stared with his friend Matthew Rhys in the Welsh made film "Very Annie Mary".
Other numerous films followed (see "filmography" at the beginning of this thread)
Ioan is 5'11, right-handed, and wears contacts. He's Christian and from all reports, is quite serious about his faith. His favorite sport is rugby and he used to play it as a teenager. His favorite bands are: Manic Street Preachers, Catatonia, Stereophonics, and Oasis. He enjoys going to the movies, the theatre, and the pub. He loves drinking beer and tea, but not at the same time of course. He's single, although he's been with his steady girlfriend, British actress Alice Evans for quite some time now. Currently, Ioan lives in Los Angeles with Alice while pursuing his Hollywood career.
Originating from Wales, Ioan’s dedication to his family and loyalty to his native country are apparent by his fierce determination not to lose sight of the important things in life such as family, history and culture. He is a strong promoter of Welsh education, and the arts.

Someone made a post about Plastic Man - Could you guys tell what this is (http://home.online.no/~bhundlan/scripts/PlasticMan.txt)?Not too bad so far ( i've read 1/3rd)............being the worlds dumbest superhero and all.......... I like the way they described his polymerization and the way the room itself was distorting. The "W. brothers" have a good sense of humor.:D I wish we all had the whole script to the script they're using for F4. Can you score me one? If so please PM it to me.
Believe it or not, I read that article from ioanonline already before you posted it...I think he's even too Welsh for Hunter Rider........The photo is cute; Alice kind of reminds me of Linda McCartney. Serious though, I think Ioan is cool as hell, he kind of reminds me of myself, only alot prettier.:p

So I am thinking that you are asking my opinion of Batman????? Well I'm not a major Batman fan...I have seen all the Batman movies...enjoyed them for the most part...I really thought the first with Michael Keaton was the best...but I enjoyed looking at George, even if I didn't particularly enjoy his rendition of the Bat...as a kid I really had a hard time understanding why these heros wanted to keep their identity a secret, and why they never allowed themselves the freedom to find love...I guess thats why I love F4, those are 2 things that make them stronger I believe...so though I really have nothing against the Bat...he is not particularly interesting to me...but he is to others and that is fine with me....LOL...I'll help you out in finding photos of IOAN;)

Real Life Quotes
'The arses on the trousers aren't very tight. They're very loose and baggy and I like tight trousers. And the shoes - the shoes have got a bit of a heel, and it's a strange sensation for a man. Especially when you're running.' He mimes a mincing trot. 'I am mighty Hornblower! Watch me run like a girl!'
On his Titanic experience: "Yeah, I was lucky because I didn't have to spend hours in freezing water. There weren't many people my age on set so Kate, Leo and I hung out together. We would pile into Leo's dressing room, which was full of PlayStations, mini basketball hoops and the like."
On Horatio Hornblower: "I think people are attracted to the character because he's not a hero in the traditional sense. He's not a natural leader, he's just a young man with a very bright mind. He's compassionate, he hates injustice and he will stand up and fight when he's pushed to the limit."
"I'm determined not to lose my name. It's who I am. It has neither aided my progress nor hampered it. It's just who I am. My character. . . My make-up. My culture and heritage is a very rich one. So what if it's difficult for people to pronounce? We all learned how to say Schwarzenegger."

That was a great cartoon pic. I'm gonna post it on my ioan board.
It's not very hard to do once you know the basics. Just a matter of using the "crop" tool from your editing software. Most 'puters come with a basic program. That's all I use. I don't know the real high tech stuff.
I then just created a blank mat or canvas, and "cut and pasted" the two pics on it, after resizing the pics so they were the same length.
You posted it at the same time I was typing....I already told you I can't do 2 things a 1 time....

http://www.shamelesstourist.com/hottestgeekever.jpg
I don't know which is sillier:
- someone claiming that Ioan's being dorky is anything but a beautiful, beautiful thing;
or
- someone else claiming that Ioan isn't dorky at all!
Ioan is, in fact dorky, and this quality is absolutely intrinsic to his preturnatural bodaciousness. This is not just any dork we are talking about. This is the Hottest Dork in the Universe (tm).
Good heavens, you people, grab a clue from the clue bag! ;)

ZCAaaaaaaah...give the guy a break. ;) He just arrived in Tokyo at 7:00AM after a long "red eye" flight and hadn't gotten his contacts in yet. The rest of the time the sheets were strategically placed in all of the "right spots". ;)
This film was a supernatural thriller and that scene did not show in the European version. I got my copy from someone that lives where the censorship codes were more lenient, like here, where a scene like that would probably only warrrant a "PG-13".

That's what we love about him. Seems to come naturally.
There's a very popular story about him which he tells himself in interviews. Two women fans from America were over in London and found out where he lived. They rang his bell at a fairly late hour and I guess expressed their admiration for him. He didn't know quite what to do so he invited them in and asked them if they'd like a cup of tea! He said at the time he was just so flabbergasted. I don't think he'll be doing that any time again too soon. (although he is very accommodating to those fans he does meet).

Is it me, or do all welsh people look older than they really are??? I mean, I once thought Christian Bale was 35-40, but it turns out the guy is younger than Paul Walker, who looks like he's barely turned 21!!! Ioan Grufford caught me off guard as well, he looks like he's also in his mid-30's, but really, he's only thirty one......:)

Being serious for a moment. I had no previous knowledge of the "Fantastic Four" comic book until our board announced that Ioan was going to be starring in it. I didn't want to cause any resentment amongst the die hard "FF" fans here, knowing I arrived here based on that fact. It's was a little intimidating, to say the least! It still is! For the most part, I like just sitting in the background and reading what you guys/gals have to say! I'll jump in from time to time if I have any Ioan news/pics to share.
I'm glad I found this site! I've learned sooooooo much info. about the comic, it's history, and the characters, (that's both the "comic book ones and some of you board members!) which I've passed along many a time to my Ioan site.
I guess this is sort of a "win-win" situation, in that we've all benefited from the exchange of these bits of knowledge....even though the percentage has probably been around 98/2 in favor of me learning a hell of a lot more about "FF" than you have about Ioan!

I am as big a Ioan fan as it is possible to be without being a danger to society. That is my niche, teetering on a precarious knife-edge of sanity. I cannot speak for Ioan Fan on this matter. Only she knows how far she is willing to go.
Ioan would probably even say so....LOL
Who cares what he says! He speaks Welsh half the time! Who can understand him?
So, can you answer me one thing, if Ioan were so all powerful, then why is it only girls here praising him.
Everyone knows women are way smarter than men, that's why? Sheesh! You had to ask? I rest my case!
Are you all that much materialistic and all about being skin deep that no heterosexual male is here sharing your same beliefs?
A little defensive, aren't you? Jealous? Good! Raise those standards to Ioan-like heights! Dorky's fine, but try to have a little style! Be polite and gracious, and speak with a delightful and slightly mysterious accent. Be sophisticated enough to appreciate the finer things, and yet enough of a hick from the sticks to fall for the old "fake traffic stop" trick. Then laugh at your own foibles in a warm, musical manner, accompanied by a smile containing enough megawatts to power Cleveland through the winter. That's all you need do! Don't feel inferior!
YOU'LL NEVER CONVERT US!!!
By the time your assimilation process is complete, you will have lost the capacity for such silly thoughts. Please, enjoy them now, while you still can!

Thought I'd dig up some past screencaps of Ioan in various hair styles....some dating way back to 1995 and his first roles. (what I had to do to get my hands on these rare VHS tapes recorded by people in the UK!!) .

Was he ever!
I saw that flick three times in the theatres, so I feel highly qualified to make such a definitive answer on the subject.

i did need to recover! Ioan was the only one besides Glen Close that could act in the movie. if i wasn't so interested in seeing him act i wouldn't have survived the movie both times lol its a great movie for younger kids though. Ioan plays a dorky nice guy very well too

not sure about who or when but as for why..i'd say mr fantastic cos it's funny that he can tweak her ass from a distance and then escape...as for cindy well maybe she was the in thing when it was done....I'd forgotten how hot she was and how great her ass was
