View Full Version : Nick Fury actor preference.
Please no complaints about "another casting thread". I haven't seen any polls for this.
I won't have an "other" option, for one because I'd just like to see what choice you would make of those given. I will however add a name and you can hold off voting until I add it if you request for me too add that name, and it's not some ultra-unrealistic choice.
A couple of these are unrealistic as is. I don't know whehter they could ever get close to nabbing Ford or Willis for this. Vote in the line of logic of, "who would you try to court most if you were the casting director". Cause although you might consider Willis or Ford to be the dream for it, it's also worth considering that it might be waisted time because of their "status", and also, their paychecks would eat up a big chunk of the budget.

"Van Damme" and "play part well" should never be used in the same sentence...

Are you stable? Hugh Jackman already has a defining Marvel role in one of it's 2 huge franchises. He's also a bit too young. Van Damme is a Belgian who evidently can't talk in an American accent of any believability, who's career has been in the tank for several years, for among other reasons the fact that nobody accept children and slow adults have any respect for him or his acting.
BTW, I didn't mean to be harsh w/ the "are you stable" question.
How come only 3 vote with so many views?

I'd say most of those guys are to old.You mentioned using realism as a base for choice but ford and nicholson will be in there 60's when this movie gets made.
My choice would be Clooney from the manip's i saw a while back.
If it had to be one on the list i'd go for gibson although he'd probably ruin it with his OTT acting style.

Clooney defintely has the personality and the look to play Fury. That being said I did like watching Hasselhoff as fury. He did a decent job. It's not his fault the production values on the movie were crap. After all it was made for TV so I'll cut the Nick Fury pic some slack.

None of them:
Kurt Russell or Sam Elliot.
I really think that being in the worst Batman film ever (even worse than Adam West's) really soured Clooney to the superhero movie headliner gig. I'll add him to the poll, but I doubt he'd do it.
As far as Kurt Russel : GAIN A FREAKING IMAGINATION. The guy and the studio don't want Snake Plisken to play short haired Snake Plisken.

I voted for Jackson. I like the idea of Fury being the coolest mother****** on the planet, and that is personified by Jackson. Jackson doesnt get many cool rules, but this would be a great one for him.
But if they are going to go the MU version of the character, Clooney fits that role perfectly. But I dont think his voice would be right. White Fury's voice should be gritter than Clooney's is. And I think Clooney would come of as being to superheroish, while Jackson would just come of ass cool.

oldER, not Clint Eastwood old. Nick Fury had greying brown hair, a few wrinkles, and the current Sly Stallones body (IE the kind of body you get when you did steroids 25 years ago).
Clint Eastwood looks like the English patient.
Although Clint directing? Fine by me. As long as he goes easy on the pretentiousness/award wanting. Which he can certainly do. He'd probably cast Morgan Freeman as Gabe Jones. Or maybe Lawrence Fishburne, which would be more appropriate.

As much as I love Sam Jackson and as much as the Ultimate Nick is based on him
Its just too close to his role as the spymaster in Triple X
And for the record Hasselhoff as Nick - and Lundgren as the Punisher didnt suck in their respective roles
Crappy direction , production design and costume, supporting cast and Script let them down

I dislike Dennis Quaid too much to want him to lead a Marvel movie. The douche wore a "vote for Pedro" t-shirt on the Daily Show. How much more obvious of an insecure wannabe hip delusional old man can you get.
I wonder if since it's a paramount movie that they'd look to their own stable of actors from one of their shows on a Viacom station. George Eads could work I just don't know how old they'll make Nick. Another unconventional choice would be Jeff Bridges if he could get into the right shape.

two questions:
why is everyone so enamored with Samuel L. Jackson? All he can do is act angry, I have seen no range in any of his acting, in Star wars he was disapproving and upset, in that movie he did with John Travolta he was angry and upset, as shaft he was angry but righteous. In SWAT he was angry and gruff. I mean the man has the emotional range of a 15 year old boy. ( <--- thats not a lot of range, for those of you who couldn't figure that out)
2nd) IF they did a movie with Nick Fury in it, wouldn't it be an appearance in the Captai nAmeirca film?
Who cares if it seems unoriginal? Kurt Russell is still perfect for Nick Fury.
It's way beyond the realm of unoriginality. It's an absurd, utterly illogical notion. To have the same actor play 2 surley eye patch wearing, gun-toting, 5 O'Clock shadow sporting lead heroes.
You people are just annoying who can't see beyond duplication of other movies.

I don't call the opinion of anyone who I disagree with absurd. Either attempt to see the idiocy of the idea, learn more about show biz to see why it's so idioitc, agree to disagree, but don't make some blatantly untrue implication of the sort that you leveled at me.
And on Statham, he wouldn't be terrible if he wore a toupee and could perform with a flawless American accent. However why bother when you can cast someone with star power who can open a movie. Otherwise you might as well cast this guy

Right. Multiple people suggest Kurt Russell and you call it an absurd, utterly illogical notion. Just because you dont want a person to play a certain part you criticize the choice and call those who suggest it annoying and unoriginal. Someone suggests Dennis Quaid and you bash into him for awhile. Youre just a flamer who thinks that by attacking other people's choices it makes yours look better.
There's one person who's a flamer in this conversation and it's the one who lacks a "young guns" flashing avatar.

I don't know anything about Quaid's private life, but I don't think it's something that should be given much consideration when you're talking about a role. Jeff Bridges is probably the best actor on that list of potential Nick Furys, but I don't know if I could buy him as a hardass. Keep in mind that my experience with Jeff Bridges is limited to The Fisher King, K-PAX, The Big Lebowski and Seabiscuit.

Yeah Sam Jackson can definitely act. The explosions of anger are his "thing" -- moreso from Pulp Fiction through the late nineties, but not so much now -- but he still knows what he's doing. Part of the reason you see him yell so much is because he's typecast, and, frankly, he is an intense-looking guy. I was actually watching The Negotiator on TNT or whatever this weekend, and it's pretty standard, late-nineties paranoia thriller/cop procedural fluff, so he's called upon to yell a lot, but just paying attention to the quiet moments in between, I really do think he knows what he's doing. He'd be a great fit for the role of Nick Fury if that's the way they want to go with Nick Fury (although they don't; Avi Arad has said he wants old school, Howling Commandoes Nick Fury), and there's no denying that Brian Hitch modeled the Ultimates Nick after Sam Jackson in the first place, so...it's like art imitating art imitating life. Or something.

While I prefer that they use the original Nick Fury, if they were going to go with the Ultimate version, I would be exceedingly happy with Avery Brooks. That man is ten times the actor that Sam Jackson is.

I hate Sam Jackson as an actor. I think he's way overrated. His angry black man routine gets old and tired. Unfortunately the angry black guy might be what tthey are aiming for especially with the Ultimates version so he'd probably get it if they do make a film. bah

I think George Clooney should be cast as Nick Fury I think he can pull it off...
after i made this thread I learned that Avi Arad ruled out basing the Nick Fury movie on his "Ultimate" appearance. He's going to be white. I really wouldn't mind someone starting another poll that excludes Jackson.

What about Kurt Russell?
Personally I'd prefer the original Nick Fury not the Ultimate version.
If they were doing the Ultimate I would like to see Avery Brooks as well.
Why did they make Fury black for the Ultimates? I mean he was supposed to be around for WW2 and he wouldn't really get far in the military at that time, hell he may not of even been fighting.
Just curious if anyone knows the reason for the change.

Kurt Russell is one of the most popular ridiculous suggestions in all of fan casting. It has no chance of happening because Fury looks and acts almost the exact same as Snake Plisken. It would be like having the same actress playing Morticia Adams and Lily Munster. People who haven't already worn an eyepatch and toted a gun in the same movie can in fact do it in this one, just as, along the same line of logic, people who haven't been a sword/sandal/elf type movie can play Thor.

If I thought he would be a bad call I wouldn't have said Russell, he's older now and can pull of the gruffness. That's not to say he would be perfect for it, just because he played a similar character shouldn't preclude him from Fury either, not that I think they'll give it to him. He's no longer the draw as an action hero he once was.

Jack's too old and out of shape to play the part. It is 100 % out of the question for him to even to make the weakest of attempts to assertain the approximate physical shape for the role, plus I don't think he'd be willing to do another comic book movie unless he gets a salary similar to what he received back in 1989 when he did Batman.

THere can only be one
And his name is not on the list
And his name is Clint Eastwood, and clearly he should direct as well, and if none of you can see this you are wankers.. LOL
just kidding, but I do think Clint would make the ideal Nick Fury, even if he is old, Nick was always protrayed as older.
I am with you on this one unless they went Ultimate. In that case Sam Jackson or Lawrence Fishburne.

I dont give a s#!t that he's also Snake Plisken. Hell, Pierse Brosnen was Remington Steele on TV, who was a heavily inspired by James Bond character. And who ended up being the best modern James Bond?
And no black Nick Fury. That was one of the biggest, dumbest moves in Ultimates (Making some Heroes like Cap and Hulk killers is another)

Sam Jackson if it's the Ultimate version, other than that Bruce Willis or Harrison Ford would be cool.
