or any year that you might have an opinon on...
if you think Charlie Chaplin would have made a good Jimmy Olsen cast if for 90 years ago, it's all for fun.

Gregory Peck hands down as Clark/Superman.
Hmm...I'd have to go with Peck for Bruce Wayne/Batman and somebody like Cary Grant for Superman.

An older Greg Peck would have been perfect as a "Dark Knight Retrurns" Bats. I can almost see Alex Ross' painting him as such!

Exactly!

Hugh Jackman pre-Wolverine would have been excellent as well.

Well I hope so considering Ross' version of Bats from Kingdom Come was based on Mr. Peck.

 to Billy Campbell. He's awesome.

Um has no one seen him in To Kill a Mockingbird? Peck is not only the spitting image of Clark but also is still remember in that roll as being the perfect embodyment of everything that is good and wholesom and of good intent, and THAT is exactly what Superman is.

While it is true that he embodies all the ideals in that film, after watching any of his other films. I definitely see the suave, darkness needed for Bruce Wayne.

Well, 3 or 4 years ago, we could've gone painlessly with most of the "Smallville" cast. Minus the awful ones Kristin Kreuk and Sam Jones III, and obviously the non-existing characters Chloe and Lionel. I always think how great would Erica Durance be, had her not been cast in SINO.
Though Tom Welling's "acting" from 4 years ago could've been a huge problem, at least his Abercrombie & Fitch days wouldn't come with any baggage of native-american caves and kryptonite in every corner.
10 years ago: Patrick Warburton as Superman. Courteney Cox, the perfect Lois Lane. And what about Tom Hanks as Lex Luthor?
15 years ago. Daniel Day-Lewis as Lex Luthor and Gerard Christopher as Superman. Although he would bring a baggage of some sort, generating a flame war between Gerardgites and the fans who would want an unknown... :p
This is fun. But right now is definately the perfect time to make a Superman movie. Brandon Routh, Kevin Spacey and (hopefully) Evangeline Lilly will rock!

25 years ago i would have still gone with Christopher Reeve, but Lex Luthor would have been either Anthony Hopkins, or Al Pacino or Robert DeNiro with Sharon Stone for Lois

25 years ago, i would still go with Gene Hackman for Luthor. I hate Lex from STM, but that's just the way he was written.
In S:2, without Otis and Miss Teschmacher, he is a MUCH enjoyable character, and Hackman plays it at perfection. His scenes at the White House and in the Daily Planet are priceless.
Great choices for Lex though, Superman20. I would add Andy Garcia to the list. Somewhere in time, he could've been Lex. Even now, if we didn't already have Kevin Spacey.

I know this is for fun and all but it really should be in Super-world or at least Misc Super films since it's not about the current film being made.

3 years ago: After watching the emotional range and physique he displayed in "American Psycho" I would have went with Christian Bale as my top choice. Jim Caviezel may also have been able to pull it off.
5-10 years ago: A younger Hugh Jackman would have been fine for me in this, but if I'm ever going to see him as Superman it'll have to be on the SNL spoof. Now I only associate him with saying "bub" and slicing things, what a pity Singer found him for that and not this.
15 year ago: I would've stuck with Reeve. The only problem is that the rest of the cast weren't wearing their ages very well. Marc McClure was way too old, and I don't even want to go into Margot Kidder territory on this discussion.

As for any of the rest of the pretenders to the throne:
John Haymes Newton-Had the look and the voice, but the emotional range of a brick

Gerard Christopher-not the right speech patterns, which is important as anything in my book (I mean look at how effective Keaton's voice was for Batman, it totally detracted attention from his receding hairline), and not too far above Newton in the acting department.

Dean Cain-Get me a Ralf sack on this one. The acting was just epic from this guy. Plus his face didn't look right and he had the voice timbre of a 12-year old.

If Routh sidesteps these examples we should be in for a treat, or at least a lack of embarrasment. Aside from Reeve the only good Supermen of the last umpteen years are Tim Daly and George Newbern, and they're animated. Sad, dude. Just sad.

Patrick Warburton had the height, size, looks, voice, a serious but sarcastict personality that George Reeves had. He would have been a great Superman imo. Telie Savallis/Kojak(spelling?)would have made a great Lex Luthor. He had the look, that classic gangster but classy personality, and of course the bald head.

"I must break you."

In all seriousness, though, Caviezel would've made a great Superman, but now all I can see when I try to visualize it is Supes getting whipped and crucified (like Singer's version didn't already have enough Christ-symbols in it)
