Huge belt with no practical use, that's the 80's all right. Although I think those have come back in style lately.

I remember posting a pic a while back where MJ was getting on Peter's case about eating fast food and talking about how his web slinging "keeps him from ballooning up like she would". Seeing as MJ is a model I'm curious if there have been times where MJ was worried about her weight?

I figured start a thread about talking about MJ in general or if someone has questions related to the character.

Anyway, I picked up New Avengers last week and thought it was pretty funny when Spider-Woman bribed the criminals with doughnuts and told them "now that I'm back in the tights these are a no-no". This got me curious. With MJ being a model and all have there been any times she's been neurotic about her weight like that?

All I know is that MJ is somewhat of a health nut. I don't think she's ever really been concerned about her weight, but I do recall when her cousin Kristy came for a visit (Kristy was bulimic), MJ commented that there was no way she could eat as much as Kristy did or she'd swell up like a balloon.

She has been shown working out and has taken some self-defense classes from Captain America.

On a side note, I think it'd be nice for MJ to take up a cause, like visiting kids in hospitals or reducing the number of stray animals. It might add more depth to her character since people seem to complain about her being a model. I think it'd also be nice if she and Pete got a dog; it would make for some cute stories if the dog was attached to MJ and Pete became jealous of it.

Oh. Well I like the MU versoin the best anyway. I love to watch her grow. Ever notice how Lois is always the same, and Lana is always the same? Well I love how MJ changes every 10 years like real people do. It makes her more believeable.

Watching the fashions change too is funny. Like how she goes from 60's style to the 80's big hair style and current style even though the story technically is supposed to span 11 or 12 years. That is part of the fun of comics.

She's being written much better now than she was in the early 90's. Now she seems more supportive, yet not a pushover. In the early 90's she seemed kind of self centered and jumped down Peter's throat pretty often. C'mon lady, the dude is Spider-Man, cut him some slack.

The artist name is Ed Benes, and yeah his drawings are pretty awesome. I've become a fan of his style, part Jim Lee, part Michael Turner, and those two are a couple of my all-time favorite artist so Benes obviously had to be added to one of my favs. The first book he had a run on was Birds of Prey, so you can imagine how his Huntress and Black Canary drawings look :wow: I think he is currently drawing Justice League if i'm not mistaken. But yeah those pics are easily some of the best MJ pics i've ever saw. For someone thats suppose to be a bombshell, I really don't see many gorgeous pics of MJ, but these certainly qualify. :woot:

It was in an Amazing Spider-Man Annual. Alistaire Smythe kidnaps Anna Watson (and Mary Jane by mistake) thinking that he is taking Spider-Man's aunt. MJ tricks Smythe into thinking that she is really Spider-Man to buy Peter time to find them.

616...Great character who had developed nicely over the years despite some patches of bad writing (coughMichellinieHowardMackieandJohnBryencough). But when written well the marriage has been the aspect of the comics in may ways and certainly the only thing worth reading about in the last 4 years of ****. Too bad Joey Q is going to destroy the last piece of classic Spidey with a wrecking ball next month.

USM....She's okay, but a bit bland IMO. I really only read the first 20 issues and she starts off more shy and less flakey and Peter "seduces" her with the powers, etc. But after that I have only played the video game (good game by the way) which she had a small role in.

The movies...She is okay. Not really the same character as in the comics. In the first one she was actually pretty close to what I imagine MJ felt like under her facade, but she only had that "facade" for all of the 2 minutes Flash was on screen with her in this movie. In the sequels Raimi, Sargent and Dunst just went off on their own thing and she is still a very intriguing character and the most developed of the "girlfriend" character in superhero movies (besides Catwoman in BR, at least), but she needs a little more lively energy and fiestiness that I think Dunst just doesn't understand about the character.

TAS....the comic book character with less development, essientially.
