View Full Version : Spider-Man Beyond???

Hi, Spidey fans.. I was checking out Moviehole when I found this:
A screenwriter pal tells Moviehole today that she's heard talk already of "Spider-Man" continuing on to have a fourth, fifth, sixth adventure and so on. What's envisioned is a "franchise beyond the planned trilogy stage, which Columbia Tristar has planned; less Batman Forever and Superman IV: Quest for Peace, more Batman Beyond". Could that mean Peter Parker might turn old mentor and train a new Spidey? Maybe - I suppose it's a way for Tobey Maguire to lay down the tights.
Thought you might be interested. :) Sorry, if it was already posted.

When that day comes down the line, I would rather see a reimaging of SM1 through 3 like they're doing with Batman, that does the Gwen/MJ/Goblin Legacies justice.

you don't think they'd base a spdey flick on spider-man unlimited?, the cartoon i mean
that would be idiotic and totally unfaithful to the comics. Just get new actors for Peter, Harry (if he's still alive) and MJ, who are all 22-to-25-ish, and you can get 3 more movies out of them. Keep the Bugle staff with the same actors if they want to come back, or all new actors if they don't. And introduce Black Cat, Eddie Brock, Alistaire Smyth, and Liz Allen to be new supporting characters for the second trilogy.
I mean, in the comics different artists draw characters different ways, so people would just have to accept that these are the same characters and I think it would not be a problem.

I think the message has been received wrong. I think what they were trying to say in the quote is that the future Spider-Man movies were not going to be done in the same style as Batman Forever and Superman 4, which is to say campy and overly comic bookish. By saying that it'll be more like Batman Beyond, I think they mean that it will be edgier, darker, and less like a kid's movie. At least that's what I got from it.

Batman Begins isn't a re-imagining of the previous films, unless you weren't actually saying that
Maguire turning mentor to train a new Spider-Man has to be one of the dumbest thoughts anyone could have. I don't need to explain that one.

Re-imaging, re-do, do-over.... whatever you want to call it. I would prefer that approach to Spider-Man than say Spider-Man Beyond.

i agree with hyper venom, and its kinda what i been saying all along, that these films are going to evolve from one to the next, i belive that the less its aimed at kids the better off the whole franchise will be. i mean the first couple of batman films werent aimed at kids and they were decent sort of films, i dont understand how S-M couldnt be like that.(by saying like that i mean edgy and dark, not campy and stupid)

Only if they did it like the Terminator movies. Like Spidey's daughter being sent back through time to help him out in some way or what if she was sent back to kill him. Spider-Man movies like this could be made, but the question is would they be good or not? Making it a stand alone movie wouldn't effect the continuity of any of the stories & it would be a great way to get them both on the screen together.

i think if they do a 4,5, or 6 and thye know they're not going to be able to get Tobey or any of the others, then i say take a jump forward in time. get new actors and base it more on the current story line. Peter's a teacher instead of a photographer. get an actor that's late twenties, early thirties. that way they can keep current continuity while forging ahead with a completely new one as well.
Peter B. Parker
02-09-2005, 09:53 PM
No way will this happen. This will ruin the character. True, it would be nice to see Peter Parker as a old man, passing on the webs but I don't think it would work in the movies. The comics maybe but not the movies. Personally, I fell they would end it at a trilogy but Sony is greedy. I just hope they recast for 4 and try something that might be somewhat good.
Dr. Bromwell
02-10-2005, 11:23 PM
Not Spidey as an old man. More Clark Kent/Bruce Wayne age like in the current ASM storylines. I can see that for 4, 5, and 6....you could even get Kris Kristopherson to be Ezekiel.

no batman beyond movie :(
as much as I like Bruce Timm's work on the DC universe, he was shot down when he wanted to direct Batman Begins
WB is hesitant to let a guy who works on cartoons direct a full length Batman live action movie.
To be fair tho
Mask of the Phantasm was much better than Batman Forever

It's perfectly acceptable for a progressing comic story to move on and have Peter to change careers and age and 'grow up'. However, the symbol that is Spider-man, that IS Peter Parker, is a young guy working as a photographer. That's how he's known. Even people who don't follow comic books, know Spider-man. and they know Peter, and what he does. Petey is a trademark of the generation, and changing that aspect in a live action movie would be a bad idea if you ask me.

okay so Peter gets old and starts loosing battles so he trains Arana to be the net highlander and she cuts off Eddie Brock's head and does the quickening. And then in order to beat carnage she has to kill Peter to be strong enough...
So then she becomes "Spider-Man Beyond" aka The Highlander.

Heh. The one thing I disliked about DC, was that like 5 people were all once the same persona. Like wally west, Barry Alan, etc etc were all The Flash. But only ONE guy was Wolverine. One guy was Cyclops or Hulk or Daredevil.
If you were to apply pseudo-realism into the comics or even the movie, then not only would he probablly not be able to have children. But if he did, the kid would only have half of his stregnth because their DNA would be a mix of MJ's too. (Think: DBZ, Gohan is a half sayajin and should therefore be half as strong. Same concept.)
Anyway, reading Spider-girl, I don't see everyone's enjoyment. I gave it a chance, hated it. People on these boards said try it again...I still hate it. I like Arana better. There's more possibility there. At least Arana is working on a WHOLE different level...Spider-Girl is just a female spider-man.
There's just nothing that makes it work on any level.
Obviously this is all my opinion, but I figure I should explain that before people flame me or something. "How dare you mock spider-girl!! What you said is so NOT true." "Umm...yeah it is. IMO!!" "Well my opinion is better than yours!!" (has happened before, trust me..)

gohan was said to have more potential than goku except he got lazy... remember he was the first to go SSJ2.
also.. genetics don't work that way.
if a trait is passed on, it's passed on fully, or a variance of it... not half of it.
at one point, there were two spider-men (clone saga)
and every marvel hero has a multiverse counterpart (is it universe 616 or something like that?)
so yeah??
Don't know where you're going there
Spider-girl works on the principle of "the next chapter" old villains come back etc (electro & his daughter). Same reason why people liked batman Beyond

What I meant was, I think that I just didn't like that "possible future". Like the story just entertain me and I think that certain things were just flawed and annoying.
I really think GG should die and then stay dead. Marvel should swear to us that they'll never use him again. Every single thing wrong with his life always ends up going back to GG. Ah he lost his leg...GG did it! Someone banged Gwen...GG did it.
It's almost like a joke.
Peter is like sitting at a desk. "Up next is--Hey someone cut off my mic" And you see Green Goblin holding the chord as that silly "wa wa waaaa" music plays.
Couldn't he have lost his leg with something awesome like fighting off galactus with all of the other heroes.
Couldn't May have been named something else? The same like 4 names just keep getting recycled. But fine whatever...let that one go.
What about the storyline? She should have completely new villains and side characters. The only returning people should be mj and pete...but oh wait you get a lot of the same.
It's probablly just me. But I find nothing interesting in that title. My eyes hurt right now trying to even think about it.

Well if you don't like it, you don't like it... there are plenty of new villains in the title though.
how would spidey lose part of his leg fighting galactus?
*galactus pokes his leg with his giant index finger*
lol
I get what you mean though, a more meaningful fight?
every hero needs their arch nemesis.. I like the Goblin personally but you're right.. either keep him alive or kill him off permanently.
you have to remember that spidey is supposed to appeal to kids and teenagers for the most part... all the nostalgia fans have to remember that the text isn't supposed to be super serious and complex... but even for a comic, Spidey has become very adult... so I think we have to take it as is.
maybe marvel will end up making spidey into a more graphic novel style comic later?

Spiderman unlimited... I never understood why spidey ended up in some alternate reality thing wearing a silly cape thing... so it didn't sit right with me from the start. I don't know about spiey 2099 but it must have had similar problems.
