View Full Version : Dream project that'll never happen ?

What's THE dream project you'd have wanted the most to have happened, but you know never will ? I'm sure there is one. ;)
Mine ? Well, my personnal favorite is the original War of the worlds, but SFX made by Ray Harryhausen.
Had they hired him in the 50's-60's, and had they let him go lose, we would have had the greatest sci-fi movie of all time.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v380/thesaintofkiller/heinemann1.gif
Imagine WoTW, but with these aliens instead of the flying saucers we got, and in beautiful Harryhausen stop motion, destroying everything in their path.
Heck, had the movie took place in the late 19th century...! Give Ray the time, the money and the staff, and surely, nothing could have stood in his way!
So, that being mine, what's yours ?

A movie adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns starring a somewhat younger Clint Eastwood. Iīm very happy with the way Begins is turning out, but still would love to see that.
A Superman movie set in the thirties, directed by Kerry Conran - but not written by him. Again, I have high hopes for the Singer movie, but would love that too.

A 1940s style Batman by David Lynch.

Just because Peter Jackson made good LOTR-movies doesn't mean he would be a good choice for every damn fantasy-project imaginable. Remember that he made LOTR because he has always loved the books. I doubt he could pour the same passion into Dark Tower or Zelda. Has he even read those books or played a Zelda-game?

That and I want movies about the Russian Revolution. One from the point of view of the Romanov family, and another from the point of view of some Russian peasant.
I hear that Peter Jackson is planning on making a WW1 epic. Sure hope he does. If he can put the amount of work and passion into it that he did for the Lord of the Rings, than he would be my favorite director.
Last but not least, a Green Goblin movie, based on the short lived comic series from 1996. Sure, people would say that it would be a Spider-Man movie with a guy in a Goblin costume instead of a Spider-Man costume....and they would be right. I want it anyway, dammit!

I second the good AvP movie. Would be awesome if FOX admitted the AvP we got was crap, and started over, and we got a film similar to AvP2 the PC game, or at the very least, something like "Aliens" with Predators added on.

My dream project is for a Dragon Lance trilogy. A seriously done trilogy, not like the D&D movie, but a trilogy with the quality of acting, directing, producing, and budget of the Lord of the Rings. I think that Dragon Lance if done properly has the potential to be so much better on film than Lord of the Rings ever was. These books are just dying to be turned into movies, the action, the visuals, the style, the story, the characters to me would transfer to film so much better.

YES! those comics are some of my all time favorites! It's highly entertaining and has a deep hart, about a man (a duck actually) who leaves his family to become rich and wealthy. touching and funny. Don't underrate this people!

Indeed. I love Rosa's work... he puts so much effort into historical accuracy (within the limits of what he want to tell in his story of course) and has an extreme sense for detail...
...but it won't happen... it's been ages since Disney made an animated movie based on any of the Ducks.

He is my fav. Duck artist.
also the stories about the treasure hunts he made after the the life and times of Scrooge McDuck are insanely fun to read. unfortunately an adaption won't happen as you said :(
You remember the show DuckTales? i hated it. They raped the whole Scrooge McDuck character, he was more of a friendly uncle than a cheap bastard with one tiny soft spot.

Definately. They're like Indiana Jones adventures of sorts, travelling the world, solving puzzles, avoiding traps... etc... Fantastic stuff, very well written.

Well, as a kid I read alot of the Duck-comics, and there where so many different takes on the characters, I never really held the Barks version as a definitive one. As a result I can pretty much take any version as long as it reflects any of the ones I used to read. So I loved Ducktales, and still kind of enjoy it, but I do much prefer the Barks/Rosa version.

1) Babylon 5: The Memory of Shadows, or a B5 motion picture. Would've liked to seen this one, especially if they brought back the original cast instead of replacing them with new actors.
2) The Chronicles of Riddick (Sequels). I really, really hope they make the last two, but I don't know.
3) Blade 4: Wesley Snipes returning one last time to go on in a blaze of glory. Using the futuristic-"I Am Legend" type story they were going to use for Blade 3.
4) BSG: The Second Coming. Would really like to see the Richard Hatch continuation of old BSG, if not on the silver or small screen, then in a STV movie or miniseries.
Adaptations:
5) Prydain Chronicles. These series of books by Lloyd Alexander are begging to get the LOTR/Narnia/Harry Potter treatment. They have everything to make for a fantastic series.
6) Lion's Blood/Zulu Heart. Would love to see Steven Barnes alternate history duology make it to the big screen.
7)All Souls Rising, by Madison Smartt Bell. The Haitian Revolution would make a kickass miniseries.
8) Seminole Wars. Not a book to adapt from, but this is a part of American history often overlooked. Would like to see a documentary or miniseries. Something like Into the West.
9) Batman Knightfall storyline. If the current Batman series goes beyond three movies, the Knightfall, Knight's Quest, and Knight's End saga would make for a nice triology.
A Pixar movie of Sonic the Hedgehog.

One thing I, as an amateur film director, always wanted to do is a CGI Marvel movie.
It would adapt the "Secret Wars" storyline, and it would be a crossover of every single Marvel movie of the past ten years.
In it, The Beyonder captures all the heroes from the Marvel movies and puts them inside a far-off planet. Then he captures all the villains they0ve faced (bringing some back from the dead with his omnipotent power), and gives them limitless technology and resources. Soon, the villains take over the planet, so The Beyonder challengers the heroes to defeat the villains and restore freedom on the planet.
The voice cast would be:
-Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man/Peter Parker
-James Franco as Harry Osborn/The Green Goblin
-James Marsden as Scott Summers/Cyclops
-Hugh Jackman as Wolverine/Logan
-Anna Paquin as Rogue
-Patrick Stewart as Professor X/Charles Xavier and The Beyonder
-Famke Jannsen as Jean Grey/Phoenix
-Halle Berry as Storm/Ororo Munroe
-Ian McKellen as Magneto/Eric Magnus Leshnerr
-Rebecca Romjin as Mystique
-Thomas Jane as The Punisher/Frank Castle
-John Travolta as Howard Saint
-Eric Bana as Bruce Banner
-Lou Ferrigno as The Hulk
-Nick Nolte as David Banner/The Absorbing Man
-Jessica Alba as Susan Storm/The Invisible Woman
-Ioan Gruffud as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic
-Chris Evans as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch
-Michael Chiklis as The Thing
-Julian McMahon as Dr. Doom/Victor Von Doom
-Nicolas Cage as Ghost Rider/Johnny Blaze
-Wes Bentley as Blackheart
-Wesley Snipes as Blade
-Stephen Dorff as Deacon Frost
-Ben Affleck as Daredevil/Matt Murdock
-Michael Clarke Duncan as The KIngpin/Wilson Finsk

The Question
05-06-2006, 08:30 AM
Marsters (Spike from Buffy) = Cassidy
Okay, I know this is old, but I must comment. This would be very good casting, but there are a few minor problems:
1) Marsters is too good looking. Cassidy's rather scrawny and not that atractive.
2) With the exception of Spike's issues from when he was a human and being a good deal more violent, Spike and Cassidy are very similar characters. Might seem like he's rehashing the same character, at least on the surface.
Anyway, what I;d love to see:
Sandman.
Basically, this would be a very long series of movies, possibly having them filmed one after the other after the other. Each volume of Sandman would be made into a movie. The films would be weird, artsy, and not traditional hollywood. As they should be. They would seem like very high budget indy films. For the films, I would cast:

Dream project would be for Christopher Reever never to have been paralyzed and one last Superman movie in the mid-90's when CGI was coming into effect, before he was too old to play Superman. I would have also loved for Michael Keaton to stay on as Batman, and then, instead of Batman Begins and Superman Returns, we could have had a Frank Miller Dark Knight movie with both the older Reeve and Keaton in it.

I can think of a couple out of the spy boom of the '60s:
Martin Woodhouse's hilariously droll novels featuring reluctant scientist-spy Giles Yeoman, the first of which, TREE FROG, had been under development at 20th Century-Fox. Woodhouse had been a scriptwriter for THE AVENGERS in those Cathy Gale days when the show was starting to really cut loose.
Through the '80s and into the '90s, producer Saul David shopped around a story treatment for FLINT AGAIN, having obtained the rights to make a sequel to his films from the '60s. The movie would have opened with Flint living in a Tibetan monastery for the two decades since the events of IN LIKE FLINT. Unfortunately, none of the accountants running the studios by that point had a clue regarding the existence of the original films. With David and James Coburn both gone now, it can never happen.
And finally, the film did get made, but...ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE should REALLY have starred Sean Connery. With the performance he could have delivered, in a film going back to the series' roots, it would have made for a very different direction to the 007 franchise.

Thundercats live action trilogy:
Thundercats:
Origin story. Thunderra is destroyed and they land on Third Earth followed by the Mutants who accidentally awaken Mumm-Ra. Fearful of and wanting the power of the Sword of Omens he sets out to take it from Lion-O who must come to terms with aging physically and becoming the Leader of the Thundercats. As the Thundercats battle the Mutants, Lion-O goes on to fight Mumm-Ra, where reminiscent of the series, he throws his casket into the pool seemingly killing him.
Thundercats: Dogs of War
Based on 'The Dogs of War' comic. The Dogs of War, travelling war-mongers who destroy or enslave planets target Third Earth. They invade Third Earth and start killing and capturing the various inhabitants where the Thundercats step forth to try and stop them. After various battles the Dogs are defeated and the slaves on their intergalatic ship are freed, to the Cats surprise, there are quite a few Thunderrians as well as Mutants. Feeling like he has a people to lead, Lion-O decides to go into the Book of Omens to complete his royal training.
Thundercats: The Return:
Based on 'The Return' comic. With Mumm-Ra gone, The Mutants decide to make the Black Pyramid their lair but as they try to get some use from the pool and the Ancient Spirits of Evil, Mumm-Ra is revealed to still be alive. After been informed of what has happened, he places a spell on the Book of Omens which makes time go slower on the inside. Inside Lion-O faces 3 tasks - wisdom, courage and strength and for the 3rd tasl (strength) he must face Grune the Destroyer - Jaga's old foe (I thought about including him as an enemy in the movie somehow but this way seems best) When Lion-O gets out he finds Third Earth a changed place, Mumm-Ra has conquered the planet and enslaved everyone where the Mutants force them to work in mines and building a city. Lion-O learns where the Thundercats are been held prisoner and goes to free them. Cameos by the New T'Cats here who help Lion-O lead the assault on the Mutants. With the Thundercats in place, minus Tygra who was killed, Lion-O sets forth for one final confrontation with Mumm-Ra, who seems more powerful than ever...
Lion-O: Matt Damon or Paul Walker
Tygra: Oded Fehr or Kevin Sorbo
Panthro: Ving Rhames or Djimon Honsou

Figures. :down
We all know we can't have a good video game movie.
I had a project/premise broken down and written for my dream Final Fantasy VII movie. Of course the material was already written by someone else, however, I had a plan to break the material down and have it be put together in three films.
Long story/idea short.
The first movie would go exactly as it pans out, then instead of ending it on such a depressing note; my version would end with them going into the Temple of Ancients and setting up some confrontations with Sephiroth and so forth.
The whole Shinra Building Aftermath would be filmed like a horror movie. You know after Sephiroth frees Jenova and Jenova apparently has killed everyone in her sight, but we don't see the carnage, all we see is blood, human remains, and a very tense/eerie atmosphere.
The second movie would begin with Aeris being killed after the Temple of Ancients and thus going deeper into the past of Cloud, Sephiroth, and of course building the other characters as well.
Third movie would chronicle Yuffie and Vincent at first, then would go back to the team preparing for their final battle against Jenova and Sephiroth.
Yes, it sounds cheesy and I had it written down/typed out at first, then a virus completely destroyed my first draft and now I can't find the version I wrote by hand on pieces of paper.
It's an idea I had and if I ever find the original copy; it'll be typed up and probably put on the Fan Fiction section of the Hype.

Maybe you've heard of this?
Dragons Take Wing In Movie
Cindi Rice, co-executive producer of the upcoming animated fantasy movie Dragons of Autumn Twilight, told SCI FI Wire that the film will remain true to the book by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, the first in their Dragonlance Chronicles series. "I'm extremely proud of the creative team I brought together," Rice said in an interview. "George Strayton has written a very cool script while staying true to Margaret's and Tracy's vision. Will Meugniot is simply an animation genius, and he's helping us create a very innovative and complex film. It is a joy to work with both of them."
Helmed by Meugniot (the animated X-Men TV series) and written by Strayton (Cleopatra 2525, Xena: Warrior Princess), the movie will feature the voices of Xena star Lucy Lawless and Michael Rosenbaum (TV's Smallville).
The Dragonlance saga was developed from the venerable Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game series and evolved into a series of books, originally created by Hickman.
Rice said that the Dragons movie is in the final stages of preproduction. "We've already recorded 90 percent of the voices, and we'll be finalizing the animatic [animated storyboard] next month," she said. She added that the movie would combine traditional 2-D animation and computer-generated 3-D elements.
It's taken 20 years to go from book to movie, and script development began in March 2005. "I've been waiting a long time to see Dragonlance made into a movie," Rice said. If the movie is successful, Rice said that she hopes to make other movies based on the books. Dragons of Autumn Twilight will be released worldwide by Paramount in the fall of 2007. —Carol Pinchefsky

Agreed--this would be right up Burton's alley. Definately stop-motion--it doesn't really lend itself to live action, I think. All I know is it would be freaking sweet to see the SS Lambada (or something like it) on the big screen.

Basically, this would be a very long series of movies, possibly having them filmed one after the other after the other. Each volume of Sandman would be made into a movie. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0812521463/sr=8-1/qid=1152730209/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-3515187-4687369?ie=UTF8
There's lots of things I would love to see...
For a long time I would have said Watchmen but now it appears to finally be happening.
Many books and comics would be amazing to see as films; Ship of Fools by Richard Paul Russo, The F uck Up by Arthur Nersesian(just to see how they would handle marketing it), The Dark Tower by Stephen King, the Rising Stars comics as a trilogy, even the recent Giant Monster comic would make a fantastic Mars Attacks! style film.
Anything written by Matt Reilly is simply ripe for the screen. He is a true action novelist, the best I've ever encountered. His books read faster and more exciting than Bond films. His three Scarecrow centered books, Ice Station, Area 7, and Scarecrow would be an amazing start for a franchise. Temple is more Indiana Jones than Indiana Jones.
My second runner up for a dream project would be Metal Gear Solid films, directed by Robert Rodriguez. I love them all and I love RR, but the main credit for this hook up comes from Sons of Liberty, my favourite in the series, and aspects from his Mariachi trilogy. The epic fairytale quality the heroes and villians in his films is the perfect style to match that of the charecters from the MGS games. The intercut fast past flashbacks seen in Once Upon A Time in Mexico of a story that happened inbetween two films would work wonders in Sons of Liberty, where Raiden plays a main charecter in a world that sees Solid Snake as a dead and gone legend. It could cut back a few times to the tanker incident, building towards the reveal of Plisken as Snake. I'm rambling.
But my dream project, the one thing that has made me heavily consider going into Hollywood in some degree just on the one in a billion chance that I could one day help influence it's making...
Cadillacs & Dinosaurs
http://deniskitchen.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/PO_MS.TIO.MED.JPG
The comic. The toy line. The game. The show. It has had everything but the movie.
And it has everything. Nice cars. Babes. Dinosaurs. Babes in nice cars getting chased by dinosaurs. Adventure. Mystery. Car chases. More Dinosaurs. Romance. A crumbling society. Political Commentary. The story is great, the action and charecters amazing. Everything that's been appealing and made such films from King Kong to Indiana Jones to Jurassic Park to even the Fast & The Furious is all in this film. I'd want nothing more than to see a franchise out of this. And another thing? Bruce Cambell was born to play Jack Tenrec.

^^^Can you imagine?!! A friggin live action Final Fantasy...and they could make 11 sequels. They would be hard as HELL to make (special effects and editing wise) but they'd be pure gold on screen. My brother says it isn't humanly possible, but I'd love to see it!
