Why the hell is Square releasing this direct-to-video?? The game and the characters are extremely popular and the animation looks just as good as the horrid Spirits Witith, I could see a profit in a limited theathrical release.

Not sure, maybe it has something to do with how short the movie is. I know I would have seen it in theaters though.

I dont think that it is anything to do with the length of the film, as it is 1.30 hours so far. I think they may have been discouraged with how crappy TSW did, or maybe they just want to put it on DVD straight away, to avoid piracy. We may never know

I think the trailer was *****ing kickass, I still want to see it. A lot of the critics at rottentomatoes seemed to be unfamiliar with anime since many cited having trouble accepting the CGI main characters' faces being modelled in the traditional anime manner (big eyes, almost no nose, etc. Unrealistically disproportionate, as most cartoon faces are). I have no such qualms. What really surprized me were the reviews on an anime board I visit. A lot of people thought it wasn't great.
I still want to see it. :o

I'm going to, but it's probably going to have to wait until it's out on DVD. I didn't like the original anime either. Thought it sucked, pretty much. The manga's supposed to be classic, though.

Just to clarify some things people have been talking about on here.
-The movie WILL be over 90 minutes. Originally it WAS going to be shorter, but the reason it has been delayed so much is because they are making the movie FEATURE LENGTH. Obviously, the director, Nomura-san, really wants to make up for the bull**** that was THE SPIRITS WITHIN.
-Aeris seems to be in it in more than just a flashback. The trailers hint at that Cloud sees her in that dream like garden of flowers where she asks him, "You came, even though you are about to break. Right?"
-The man in the wheel chair IS Rufus, not Sephiroth.
-If you watch the trailer, you will see that Sepiroth seems to have more than just a flashback in it. Trailer transcripts show that the new villains known as the Silver Haired Men (Loz, Yazoo, and Kadaj) are trying to recreate Sephiroth or resurrect him, as part of the "reunion." "I won't be just a memory."-Sephiroth
-The thing about the 24 minutes was just about how Square Ennix was showing that amount of footage at film festivals and such. These were just select clips edited together, NOT the whole movie.
-The movie will be released on DVD and UMD for the PSP at one point.
So guys, what's your ideal English voice cast for this movie? That is assuming they will do one which I hope they do. I hope they don't make the same mistake with Advent Children Dreamworks made with Ghost In The Shell 2: Innocence. I'm just praying they don't get Lance Bass to do Sephiroth for this movie.
My tentative English voice cast for Advent Children:
Johnny Yong Bosch as Cloud
Beau Billingslea as Barrett
George C. Cole as Sephiroth
Steven Jay Blum as Vincent Valentine
Lia Sarget as Aerith
Dorothy Melendrez as Tifa
Joshua Seth as Kadaj
Crispin Freeman as Loz
Anyway, it looks like they finally made the right Final Fantasy this time. And now it actually LOOKS like Final Fantasy.

FYI, it was announced at E3 that the movie will be released simultaneously in Japan and the US in September of this year.
I'm not sure what the final running time will be. In interviews the producer has said 70 minutes, but most recently the director said they have over 90 minutes. So I'm not sure.
Definitely hope they are recording an English version for the movie. Though if Lance Bass plays Sephiroth again, I will not forgive anyone!

Both Sephiroth and Aeris can be seen in the newest trailer. It looks like Aeris is just in a dream sequence, though. But, really, who the hell knows?
Nathan
06-01-2005, 07:57 PM
I'm pretty sure that scene with Aerith is nothing more than a dream sequence or another plane of existence. I like her, but she's dead and should stay that way.
But somehow it looks like they were able to bring Sephiroth back. Either that or Cloud never really killed him, and he was just at the brink of Death.

That is not a Trailer. It is just a Technical Demo to show the power of the PS3.
There were also Tech Demos of FFVI for the N64 and a Tech Demo for FFVIII on the PS2. Did we see remakes of those games? And furthermore, Square-Enix at the E3 said there is not going to be remake after they showed the Tech Demo.

"LOS ANGELES--On Tuesday, Square Enix opened a Q & A session, where president Yoichi Wada and corporate executive Shinji Hashimoto appeared to clear up any of the inquiries that industrialists may have had from its own press conference and other's that followed.
- Square Enix plans to dub Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children in English for the American release. When asked by the press if there were any plans to release Advent Children with Japanese voice and English subtitles, Wada said he would consider the possibility."
The article is dated 5/20/05.
As for why they haven't announced a voice cast, I don't know. If they are doing an English dub, my guess is that they are in the middle or finishing up recording it.

They did a Tech Demo for FFVI for the N64? So that's what that was from! I remember seeing pictures in a magazine a long time ago and I thought they were remaking it. It was bugging the hell out of me trying to remember what they were from.

Guys! Great news, here's some specs for the DVD release. Some of the best news is that the movie's final running time is 97 minutes! Meaning it will be feature length! Awesome :D ! :
TOKYO--Square Enix has released additional product details on the DVD version of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children in Japan. To begin with, the game-inspired, computer-animated film's running time will be 97 minutes, and it will sport Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. Aside from the movie, the Advent Children DVD also features a 30-minute documentary that outlines the original FFVII PlayStation game. In addition, it includes various trailers related to Final Fantasy, such as a 10-minute promotional video of the "Compilation of Final Fantasy VII." No new information on the Universal Media Disc version of the game was released.
The regular DVD edition of Advent Children will be priced at 4,800 yen ($45), standard for a DVD in Japan, and the first shipment of the DVD will come in a specially designed package. A limited-edition DVD will also be available for a hefty 29,500 yen ($275). The limited edition includes a toy figure of Cloud and his motorbike Fenrir, as well as an additional DVD that features an original FFVII anime short, titled "Last Order: Final Fantasy VII," and a special edition of the Final Fantasy VII PlayStation game. Both the normal and limited edition will be released on September 14. The full list of bonus items featured in the limited edition is listed below.
Still no word on the English VA cast I suppose. Hope to hear about that soon.

3 minutes shy of 100 minutes. Excellent news. They've really lengthened it considering the original running time was going to be somewhere in between 70-80 minutes.
I will most likely get the regular edition DVD. As much as I want to see the new animated short, I'll probably find it through other methods.

Well remember, the specs I gave you were actually for the Japanese releases, so they might not make a regular and special edition for the US. Though the director did say they would try to get as much extra stuff on the US release possible.
The original running time was actually like 25 minutes, than it was going to be like 45 minutes to an hour, before they wanted to make it into an actual feature length movie. That's basically why it took so long to make. Plus they revamped a lot of the older footage so now it looks even better.

Someone had mentioned the counter disappearing before. I guess we'll have to wait and see. As for the OVA, if it isn't included in the North American release someone somewhere will rip and sub it, so we'll be able to see it in any case. But it would be a great thing to include with the DVD and actually own.

sorry I don't know much about this final fantasy franchise. I'm only familiar with the ff7 game since it was the first one I bought for my PS, and played it for hours before giving up on it. So why wasn't this movie made instead of that spirits within thing?

Teh awesomez!
Why does Japan get all the cool stuff? :(
Because plain and simple, the best stories are told by the Japanese.
So why wasn't this movie made instead of that spirits within thing?
Because the schmucks that run Hollywood thought spending hundreds of millions of dollars on a Final Fantasy movie that wasn't Final Fantasy was a good idea. They thought making the movie as it was would make it appeal to "Joe Moviegoer," and they were horribly wrong. Yet by dumbing it down and stripping away all the elements that made it Final Fantasy, they just made it into a lame, muddled sci-fi movie with stiff, lifeless characters.

I'm sorry, I just have to post this. You probably all wondered how Don Corneo in the game could fall for Cloud right? Well.... this should answer your question.

Have you guys read my review over in the games section. We'll here it is with no spoilers.
The movie is a great movie but I did not live up to its hype.
STORY 6/10
Even tough I have never played the game (though I watched my brother play it) . I understood the basic situation of the movie thanks to a brief introcution in the beggining. The story was not bad it was just confusing at times. I think it could have been done better. There was no dialog when needed. There are still alot of great scenes. A little bit dissapoitng for such a great and long lasting video game Series.
FIGHT SCENES 8/10
From the trailers you might have seen cool matric like fight scenes. Well thats what they are like. They slow down at the best moments. The only problem is that its get old and boring after it passes the 3 minute mark. The fights are also frantic. The best fights are with Tifa and one of the spirits and Cloud against the main villain.....! The fights overall are very well done.
MUSIC 9/10
This is proably the best part of the movie. The music ranges from rock to piano and classical music and a few tunes from the movie. The music is very effective and powerful. The only bad thing is that some times it is not needed. The soundtrack will be amazing! it funny when you here that end of battle theme on a cellophone. Also at the finall battle they played the best song from the movie.
ANIMATION 9/10
The animatrion is very fluid and life like. The animation even though its is cool. It just isn't to my taste. I wanted cloud to look better. The animation is a real break trough and better than the one in Final Fantasy: Spitrits Within. Animation is really well done.
REWATCHING 7/10
I'm giving it a 7 out of 10 because watching more than 3 times is over kill. It will get sort of boring. You might want to watch the fight scnes over and over again and all those. SWEET moments. I depends on you.
OVERALL
Though sometimes I said a few negative things about this movie I strongtly suggest you buy it when it comes out in March. I STRONGLY SUGGEST. I think if this does well in sales than maybe we will get more 3D animated films. I'm not taling about Finding Nemo, Toy Story, or Robots, and MAdagascar. I'm talking about life like 3d human moives. Great Movie! But could have been way, way better.

Thanks for giving us your review of the movie Boywonder...
although I have to let you know I totally and completely disagree with ya except for one thing...the plot could've been explained better...but the movie itself doesn't or could've been WAY better...it's already awesome.

Okay, I'm thinking of Downloading this bad boy. Problem is, I haven't played enough of the game (got retarded and couldn't figure something out, and by the time I did, my PS2 went SPLAT). But I've read some stuff from the guide, let me see if I got it straight:
Seperiofh, who was somehow related to Cloud (something about clones or something?), brings some sort of comet to destroy the world (for some damned reason), Cloud and the others kick his ass and save the world.
That about right?
I don't think that Sephiroth is related to Cloud in any way. He was a member of the military and was in the same division as Cloud.
Super spoiler alert below! DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED THE GAME AND ARE INTERESTED IN WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN!!
The actual truth is that Clouds memories of the past are all fake. He was just a guard or some lower rank in the military. A dude named Zack was the guy that went with Sephiroth up Mt. Nibel when he found out that his mother, Jenova, was locked inside the reactor. So Sephiroth went ape-****, and knocked out Cloud, who was trying to protect Tifa. Zack found Cloud and took him out of the reactor to head towards like a hospital or something. Cloud, who was always around Sephiroth or Zack, took Zacks memories and made them his own when Zack dies (been a while since I've seen the short movie that explains this, not sure what happened to Zack again). So Cloud just steals his clothes and makes himself Zack. It's a crazy story.
That should answer the question, I still haven't seen this movie yet, is it out in the US or would I have to download it?

It's not out in the US yet, you'd have to download it.
Cloud is in a sense a clone of Sephiroth by way of the events that took place after the incident at the reactor. Both Zack and Cloud were unconscious when Hojo took them back to Shin-Ra and injected them with jenova cells, which is how Sephiroth was created (he was injected before he was born). So by Shin-Ra's intent Zack and Cloud were altered to become like Sephiroth through the same method that Sephiroth was created. They escaped, however Zack was shot dead. Cloud, still near death, passes out. When he recovers, Cloud takes Zack's sword and memories. This is how Cloud gained his abilities and became a member of SOLDIER.
Well, according to wikipedia at least.

The story was fine. What people don't seem to understand is that it's meant to work in conjunction with FFVII and the rest of the compilation.

No, I think most people get that. Like Zen said, Advent Children is the ultimate fan service movie. Even in conjunction with the game, as a movie the story isn't great. But the visuals, the humor, the fights are all so well done it's just damned fun to watch.

ok so what ive read so far
The storyline is that Cloud gets a disease two years after the FFVII events and has to find a cure. It was to my understanding that he got the disease from the injected Jenova cells. Is this correct?

You've obviously not read some of the complaints that i have.. "Who are all these characters jumping in," "why don't they ever explain that guy with that girl at the end," "why can the dog talk," etc. It's ridiculous.

The DVD is being released in North America on the 28th of November. The Japanese limited edition DVD has the Cloud figure, I haven't heard yet if we're going to be receiving the same deal so you might end up having to buy the imported DVD if you really want that figure.

It wouldn't surprise me if the date got moved again. I did the same thing, but I'd rather buy the official DVD as well. I enjoy supporting films I like when I can.
