Adventures of Superman - Official WB word about when we'll see the classic show hit DVD
by David Lambert
There was a story posted a week-and-a-half ago at the fansite SupermanHomepage.com, which said that they knew the release date to the long-awaited Adventures of Superman - Season 1 DVD set. There they told everyone that "...we have received confirmation that the first season DVD release for "The Adventures of Superman" starring George Reeves, will be available from June 14th. " This info accompanied some news about a U.K. release of Smallville - Season 3 (still not released there yet), but the way fans read the AoS news on the same page was that the site was referring to the USA release of that set.
We've gotten lots and lots of e-mail from fans telling us about that, and urging us to pass along the news here. But it didn't entirely match up with information we had, so we wanted to check with the studio before passing this on to our readers. Now we've managed to talk to Warner Home Video about this.
Warner tells us the "June 14th" date at SupermanHomepage.com is not accurate for Region 1. However, they agree that The Adventures of Superman starring George Reeves WILL be out in the Summer of 2005 in North America. This has been cooking for a while, after a hold-up related to restoring the elements of this older (1953) property.
From other things we've heard separately, it seems like they may also want to release the first season of Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman at the same time. That would be an unbeatable combination!
The studio is getting all these things finalized in the near future, and once they do we'll be back with tons more information, so please stay tuned!

I've heard before that the animated series of Superman that just got released is really good. Is it faithful to the comics etc...?, Yeah I know it's mostly for kids but that ok cause I got em'

I just got that set and it's really good.
I had only seen a few episodes but still wanted to get it...
In the Smallville pilot there's shot of the ship rounding the moon with the kryptonite meteors following alongside that looked very close to what the cartoon did.

OMG! Yet again, the Brothers Warner prove they're not as dumb as they look!
A release date for Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman Season 1 has been announced (6/7/05). I was already planning on purchasing it (DUH!), but wait!!! There's more!!
They're ALSO including SV's fourth season premiere ep, CRUSADE WITH the set!!!! "Look Up" indeed!

But what's the point of owning Crusade without Gone?
It's kind of a two parter Season Premiere, isn't it?

even that wouldn’t get me to buy DVD's of Lois and Clark...Well, I never saw *all* of the episodes. It had its moments, and I loved Hatcher. Cain also had one helluva beautiful body to ogle. Sorry - just being honest. LOL
I love the marketing approach. Such a SMART thing to do putting an episode of SV on the box set. It draws fans of both shows and in some cases, introduces one fan group to a property they never saw, or would have never watched otherwise. And SV's fourth season premiere ep was the best choice since it had Clark flying and introduced Lois Lane. Genius.
This is EXACTLY the kind of cross promotion I talked about during the lead casting for Singerman. Warner Home Video knows what they're doing. Their parent company, on the other hand... Instead of parlaying valuable buzz from a clearly outspoken and established fan base, they chose to keep the TV and film franchises separate, which only contributes to alienation, animosity and ultimate apathy between individual fan bases of ostensively the same character. It's just stupid, and a perfect example of how NOT to market a product. The miscalculation is further emphasized by basing a "vague" history off a 30 y.o. film, yet casting very young actors in the film's two leading roles, which at best will come off incongruous for older fans of the original pic. [shakes head] I'll never understand Warners. *sigh*
But what's the point of owning Crusade without Gone? It's kind of a two parter Season Premiere, isn't it?It whets the apatite for more. SV fans will be more inclined to run out and pick up the 4th season SV DVD when it's released in the fall, and L&C fans who previously never watched SV, may now A. Tune into the show when it airs, and B. Also buy the DVD's - all of them. It's a very, very smart marketing move.
(I wasn't planning on getting it, but this just may change my mind.)Bingo! Extrapolate this mentality to the millions of SV fans out there, not to mention what L&C fans might think after seeing Crusade, one of SV's BEST episodes. Ever. :D
even that wouldnt get me to buy DVD's of Lois and Clark...
I will, first season was ok. Last season I wasn't crazy about

You know, I've never been that drunk!
But when I was a teen my brother was very naughty and took me to a rugby party. (I was underage in a bar filled with drunk 20 something men, my dad was very unhappy about this when he found out needless to say... ;) )
So, there was this very hot and very drunk guy who decided he wanted to dance on the table but he was getting too hot so he decides to remove his jeans.
Only he was going regimental!
Yowza, I was standing right next to the table he was dancing on so I had a front row center ring side seat! :) ;)
I think my entire body went beet red!

It's very funny in retrospect, however.

I was a music major everyone went commando..... usually it was a greek tragedy. We had toga parties out the wazoo. This particular time was supposed to be a lingerie party for the ladies and of course the guys knew about it and busted it so I ended up in a parking lot dressed in a bustier telling a cop I was definitely going home and not going to cause anymore trouble at about 3 am in the morning.:D

TV Shows on DVD collected some info from K-Site and Superman Homepage about SV's 4th season DVD.
The release date is still up in the air (pun intended LOL), but it'll probably be around the same time the 3rd season hit shelves last year. It looks like Spell is getting a commentary track (huh?!), and there will be a special Lois Lane Retrospective including interviews with Erica Durance, Noel Neill, Dana Delany, and Margot Kidder.

I just wish they'd release the set *before* the season premiere. If I'm not mistaken, last year S4 preemed in Sept, but the 3rd season box set didn't hit shelves till Oct. It was only a month, but I think they missed out on extra buzz from cross promotion. That said, the *following* year will be VERY interesting to see how the chips fall around Singerman. Obviously, they can't get the box set out before the film unspools, but I'm really curious to see IF there will be any tie ins. Honestly, they'd be FOOLS not to try to capitalize on the SV audience. There's a LOT more than just "5 million" of us out there, and things have been kind of rocky lately. Gee, I wonder why?

I saw on Ksite the Season 4 of SV dvd will include commentary on SPELL...this makes me sad, because I intended never to watch the ep again..it may technically be a good episode, but I just didn't like it. I think it'll be a fun commentary to hear. Commentaries are always fun to hear, but this particular one sounds like it will be good for some laughs. KK spoke of it in a few interviews and it sounds like her and the other girls had a hoot ho'ing it up. ;)

Transference is probably my top choice for commentary. As much as Tom and John G. have talked about it in interviews, perhaps that's the one they'll want to do commentary for... if they have any say in the matter. I believe Tom said in the last SV mag. that Transference is his favorite of the season.

I just hope they somehow make up for the lack of Tom on the Season 4 DVD. I;d love to see commentary for Transference and Unsafe, and Onyx with Michael.Assuming enough people pissed and moaned about Welling's conspicuous absence on the 3rd season set (I did!), I truly hope they rectify the omission this time around. If they're giving Spell a commentary track - arguably a Lana-heavy episode - then they MAY be doing the same for the two other leads. If so, then I HOPE Tom does a commentary track for Transference (this one's a no brainer, y'know?), and my guess is Onyx will be MR's opportunity to shine. I kinda don't expect more than three (though I'd welcome a commentary track on EVERY ep if they saw fit to do one LOL), so short of either Transference or Onyx, Crusade would seem like a slam dunk for *everybody*. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. :)

Come to think of it, there's a better chance there will be more TW involvement in the season 4 set.
The reason TW was all but absent from the last one was probably because he was off getting ready for something else *cough*Superman*cough*

He may have to have time to watch and sign off on them maybe? I'm not sure exactly how it works. I'd rather them hold up DVD production to accomodate his schedule than put out something without him in it.

Some relevant tidbits from Warner Home Vid's chat at Home Theater Forum:
http://www.thedigitalbits.com/articles/033005htfchat.html
[GregSH] TV Question: ...will we see Smallville S4 before the end of August? Love the Dukes sets, and please consider Enos!
[WarnerHomeVideo] No plans on PERFECT STRANGERS, Season 4 SMALLVILLE coming this Fall, We'll consider ENOS.
[PavanP] ...Can you also tell us how far a part will you release LOIS & CLARK? Will Teri Hatcher be involved for the bonus material in future sets, as Dean Cain is for season one?
[WarnerHomeVideo] LOIS AND CLARK S1 which is coming this June contains special features including new Teri Hatcher interviews. You can expect more LOIS AND CLARK in 2006...
[WarnerHomeVideo] ...The Superman serials are in the planning stages as we speak.
[John] Can you give us an update on any chance for a re-release of the Superman films on DVD? Will we ever get the original theatrical edition of Superman: The Movie on DVD? Will the sequels get better treatment? And will we ever see an alternate cut of Superman II?
[WarnerHomeVideo] All of the issues you bring up are currently on our radar. We are exploring all the possible opportunities. That's all we can say at the moment. Keep your fingers crossed and watch the skies!!!
[LauraDavies] First, on behalf of the Folks, I'd like to thank Warner for releasing season one of Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman on DVD. We'd like to know a few things, are there going to be outtakes, what about the aspect ratios on the Lois and Clark DVDs, and are there plans to release the other three seasons quickly? (Possible dates, please?)
[WarnerHomeVideo] LOIS & CLARK will be 4x3. No outtakes, but EXCELLENT supplements are planned. Others will follow faster than a speeding bullet.
[MattSav] Now Warner has announced Lois&Clark and 1950's Superman, have you/would you please consider the superb 1988-1992 "Superboy" live action series for 2006? Also, I know the animation dept. isn't there, but I'm voicing my support for a release of the 1980's animated "Ruby Spears' Superman" series based on the movie mythology.
[WarnerHomeVideo] SUPERBOY is under consideration.

Good information there. Thanks Lokmon!
And I know I'm gonna catch hell for this, but I'm more looking forward to the first L&C set than I am Singerman. Why? 'Cause I know *exactly* what I'm getting. I know I'll enjoy it for what it is/was; Cain and Hatcher had awesome chemistry. And the set also includes one helluva bonus disc (SV's Crusade ep!) Yeah, I'm wicked psyched!
My anticipation for SV's 4th season set in the fall goes w/o saying, but by then we'll be jawing about its 5th season, and some horror film due out in October. Life is good. Spread the cheer folks! :D

I just meant his attitude, I'm not sure why he had a gun, he certainly couldn't use it..I guess thats what farmers do, get a shotgun first, ask questions later, lol.
And I was really excited when I saw stills of the scenes of them overtaking Clark, but for some reason, when I saw the ep, I didn't like him being chained up and helpless..which is insane because you know, he was shirtless!..but I just didnt enjoy it. But you know, I'm glad a lot of people enjoyed it, there's plenty of Smallville to go around for everyone:)

Good point.
Hopefully she won't be as intimidated by the process and actually say something this time. She hardly said a word on the commentaries for the 2nd season eps she did.
Maybe having all those men in the room made her freeze up... Once MR gets going, I would imagine it would be hard to get a word in edge wise. :D ;)
But wasn't she only on the Red and Rosetta commentaries like Tom? Her parts in those eps were hardly were her being in the commentary anyway.
She should have commented on Calling or Exodus instead or one of the other Lana centric eps that season. It didn't really make sense for her to be on Rosetta and Red. Nocturne, Precipace or Visage woulda also been better choices for her for the 2nd season...

I did like the episode, but even if I didn't...I still think it would be a real hoot to hear the three girls talk about this episode. In one of the recent interviews with KK, she did talk about how much fun they had together dressing up like ho's. :D... I can just imagine the tales they could tell about having Tom shirtless and all tied up. Hopefully KK will loosen up a bit on the commentary with Allison and Erica there instead of the boy's club.
My top request is still.. Tom doing Transference. I bet he'll do it, he said it's his favorite ep of the season too (at least, so far). Keeping my fingers crossed.
I also hope and pray they include a gag reel this time. That off-the-record stuff is the funniest..

I thought people were to hard on her. Really JG didn't do that great of a job on Truth and no one complained. I think pairing friends is good, the interaction between MR and TW was excellent so I expect good things from KK and AM. Beeman also was really good proabably the most informative of anyone. It helps of course that he goes out of his way to give Tom credit for things and sugestions he had.

I don't think you're giving him enough credit. No, maybe his commentary wasn't as fun as MR's was but at least he had more then three or four sentences to add.
I'm not really blaming KK for her lack of poor commentary, I was just saying with all those guys in the room who had a lot more to do with the final outcome of the episode, it's no wonder she didn't have much to add. I think they were so looking forward to having their top three doing a commentary together without really thinking if that's what they shoulda done.
I think they could have used KK more effectively in another episode where her insight would have been of more value.

Another good point. The girls apparently all have a good time together, so that'll probably be a lot of fun.

You know, of all the behind the scenes crew he's the one I'd most like to have a few beers with. I bet he has some great stories to tell and his knowlege of the show is positively encyclapedic!

She may have been preoccupied a bit, it's true that she didn't really seem into it, but I'll wager that she was also a bit intimidated.
Being a girl, other girls shouldn't take this the wrong way, but there have been studies that prove this...
Girls don't tend to pipe up in mostly male situations and there were three men in the room with her. Beeman, Rosenbaum and Welling.
That's why same sex education tends to work better for girls. Girls just do better (i.e. act with more confidence in new situations, which is what she was in) when boys aren't around. She's not much past school age and she is an actress so her self-esteem probably isn't what it could be, so that might be a factor.
That's what I was referring to by saying that she was intimidated.
I didn't think she was scared by the men she had been working with for more than a couple of years, by that point. She's probably pretty comfortable with all three, but in a group talking about an episode she wasn't in much?
I can really see where her confidence woulda been shaken a bit by the sitch. So maybe intimidated was the wrong word...

Triplet are you going to be doing reviews at K-site? If so that's wonderful! :)
It looks like it.
Yep.
I'm excited, because DTS totally blew it. This is going to get really off topic:
I had applied for (whatever reason, I thought it was a good idea at the time) a Mod post over on DTS. In my app. I had said something about my reviews at TV Tome in the application form. (They wanted to know what kind of experience I had in online communities....)
So, on Friday Scarlett tells me they thought I would be better suited to being a "reporter" than just a simple mod, given my writing background. Well, that intriqued me more than being a mod did, so I was all excited.
I was even thinking of things I could write about... thinking of people maybe I could even interview.... ;) :D
Then out of the blue the next day I get this PM from James congratulating me on my new post as a reporter on DTS, he'd seen an announcement on DTS about my new "job," but also warning me of getting involved with them.
I thought that was funny, because I hadn't been aware it was official yet and I hadn't told anyone that Scarlett had mentioned the possibility. So, they had put it up without telling me it was finally official, kinda weird since Scarlett had told me the day before it wasn't official and she wasn't the final word on the matter...
Little did I know that it would all go down hill so quickly and that James' warning would be so justified.
So, I head on over to DTS expecting to see my name up there in the announcements. It wasn't. I couldn't find it anywhere.
Confused, I PM'd James back asking just where he'd seen that. He said in the announcement on the TW General Forum about the news reporter. Except now only Mistaya's name was in the notice, not mine.
It was only then that I finally heard from Scarlett. Apparently, they'd had second thoughts because I was associated with TV Tome because of the reviews I did there.
I had a few PM's with Scarlett back and forth about this, but the long story short: as long as I was doing reviews for TV Tome, I couldn't be officially associated with DTS.
Never mind that I've never once mentioned on DTS that I even did reviews much less that they were for TV Tome. Never mind that DTS doesn't want to have formal reviews, I suggested that I write reviews for them as an option, but that as long as I was "working" for another site I couldn't "officially" work for them.
She did say that if I wanted to post articles, that I could still do that but just not as an official member of the site.
What the phuck?
Man, I was hurt. What an emotional roller coaster ride. This all took place over about 24 hours....
Here I was all excited and they shoot me down over doing reviews even though that is not competing with them at all. It's not like they're interested in doing them much less have their own... What's the problem?
They're so territorial they can't share a thing with anyone else.
So, I thought about it and PM'd Scarlett and told her that if stopping reviewing was the price of admission, I wasn't interested in helping out any longer.
It was then that James suggested Craig. I didn't know this, but he'd been kinda looking for a new reviewer and if TV Tome still needs me (their other reviewer hasn't been reviewing consistantly), he didn't mind any overlap.
That's the right answer! I didn't want to leave TV Tome in the lurch. I don't really want to write two seperate reviews either so I'll leave TV Tome as soon as I can, but I didn't want to leave them without any reviewer at all.
So screw DTS.
I still go over there, but I don't post as much as I did and I certainly don't enjoy it as much as I used to.

Currently I'm feeling very snubbed by K-Site:mad::(.. so I may not ever be able to give you feedback on your reports there, trip. I'm sure they'll be wonderful though and at least I'll be able to read them.
It really is DTS's loss not to have taken you up on your offer.

You wanna know the email title that got his attention?
Are you still looking for a reviewer (And looking to stick it to DTS)? :D
You need to really grab his attention!

That's really their only lack, no formal reviews. Well that and not being human... ;)

I love what K-Site does for the news, etc. Thats the first place I go for that kind of info. I rarely go to the MB's there except the night a new show airs, just to see if my thoughts on the show match up with the "target demo". Though at times it seems like it's a race there to see who can complain about the show the fastest. I do like a few posters over there in the spoilers forums who have some interesting ideas on show speculation.
The only thing on DTS I really enjoy is the episode caps and the trailers. Outside of that I could care less what magazine rated Kreuk the hottest this week which is what most of their news seems to be. (As a red blooded male I know Kreuk is hot, thats not in dispute, it just doesnt matter to me that the staff of "Diesel" magazine thinks so...) I dont like their MB's one bit and have only ever posted twice over there. I'm more into the Superman of the show then who's hot, popular, or who hooks up with who.
As for here, this is BY FAR the best S-Ville board around because 95% of the people that come here are fans of the characters and the discussion for the most part are more intelligent. Though I cant tell you the last time SHH had any news regarding SVille.

Did you have to fill out a formal application to do that, or did you just link to your old stuff at TVTome?
I'm sorry to hear they treated you like that. I think K-site is much better anyways it feels more like a REAL fan site whereas DTS seems more like an overprocessed bussiness. It doesn't seem to have any particular personality. Maybe after a while if you want you could move into a reporter positon too.I used to have over a thousand posts there but it quit recognizing me and I had moved on over here. I may evetually try to get back on there though.Serene I hope things get smoothed out for you over there.

I just tried the K-Site thing again.. it hates me. I show up as registered and logged in, but absolutely can not post.
So I wandered around instead, reading various forums. And now I'm a little depressed. I just don't think I'm watching the same show as everyone else sometimes. I know interpretation is highly subjective.. but honestly the bashing is really getting to me today. Maybe a lot of fans have just lost their enthusiasm for the show after 4 seasons. I haven't and I'm starting to feel like a freak for still liking the things I've liked about it from the start, and for enjoying some of the different ways they've taken the storylines.
I'm just moody today. :(

In fact, I'm pretty close to being fanatical over it (which should explain the reasoning in my last PM - hope I didn't scare ya. :hyper: ) There ARE things I don't like, but it's pretty minor stuff compared to everything that I DO like.

He read at least one of my reviews, Sacred, and said he really liked the way that I talked about more than just the writing and acting.
James had emailed him for me before hand so he knew what was up before I emailed him and had told James he was interested but I didn't want to wait to hear back, since the next new ep is next week.
That's when I emailed him so there wasn't a formal application form or anything like that.

I've been thinking about this (while wallowing in my funk). It's the intelligence and maybe more importantly, the maturity. I don't mean to sound like I'm intolerant of people who bash the show in all cases. There are things we *all* have complained about. It's not a perfect show by any means. - except perhaps visually.. but I digress;). When trying to figure out why it is that I have no problem with any of you guys complaining about Lana, or praising Lois, or disliking episodes I liked.. when it gripes my ass to read it from others, I realize that it's all about mutual respect. I can disagree with you guys and still luv ya. :)
Bottom line is we're all here because we actually LIKE the show, AND we aren't too intimidated to admit it.
Maybe I need a nap, or some medication..

I know season 4 isn't even over yet, but what would you want to see on the DVD? In terms of features and commentaries? Since the DVD is currently in production, most likely. And sometimes MARVEL and DC visit these boards- what would you like on the DVD?
Personally:
> Comic book to screen: The life of Lex Luthor (celebrating debut of Onyx)
> Faster than a speeding bullet: Red and Yellow (celebrating Flash cameo)
+ Would delve into JLA, special effects, cast interviews, adaptation of another DC
legend
Commentaries:
Run (Tom Welling, Actor who played Flash, Alfred Gough, Miles Millar)
Onyx (Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum, Alfred Gough, Miles Millar)
Commencement (Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum, Kristen Kuick, Alfred Gough, Miles Millar)

I'm a little torn when it comes to the commentaries. Part of me wants Tom to participate so I can hear his take on the scenes, etc. However, I think I'll enjoy the fact that the producers, co-stars will be able to discuss Tom's performance without him being there listening in on them. I think Tom get's a little quiet and sometimes even embarrassed about other people's take on scenes. Can you imagine if he had been listening in on the Memoria (tank scene) commentary, and all the remarks that were passed back and forth? I think I'll enjoy hearing what everyone had to say about Tom's performance in some of my favorite episodes without them having to worry about embarrassing him or putting him on the spot. I mean think about it: Annette O'Toole is going to be part of the commentary on Crusade. If Tom was part of it, what do you think everyone is going to say for the beginning of the episode when he's naked and in the hospital? If you remove Tom from the equation, you might get some insightful tidbits from everyone involved that you wouldn't get if he were present. (Just a thought.)
However, I hope that show more behind the scenes filming on the DVDs as well as adding Tom to the gag reels.

For example, it's yellow, blue and freakin RED, mo-rons! LOL ;)
*ahem*
Back on topic, I like having just Clark on the cover (big surprise there), and the full cast photo on the back, like they did with the 1st season DVD. That seemed "fair." But alas, I wasn't consulted either. :p
As to Lois on the cover, that doesn't surprise me. They had Welling and Durance plastered all over the S4 promotional posters at the beginning of the season too. It's all about Lois and Clark, doncha know? ;)

I think the Season 3 DVD was purple because of the Lex-centricity of the season. Considering that most of that season's best eps were "Shattered," "Asylum," "Memoria," and that Rosie was very present in the special features. Also, I don't think Yellow would be a good color for the box art. But that's just me. :D
As for the S4 DVD, I would've assumed the cover art would be of Flying Kal.

And I know I'm gonna catch hell for this, but I'm more looking forward to the first L&C set than I am Singerman. Why? 'Cause I know *exactly* what I'm getting. I know I'll enjoy it for what it is/was; Cain and Hatcher had awesome chemistry. And the set also includes one helluva bonus disc (SV's Crusade ep!) Yeah, I'm wicked psyched!Well... don't know about everybody else, but I ran out at lunch time yesterday to pick up my L&C S1 DVD. Life is good.
First thing I watched? Twice? LOL! Take a guess. http://www.patcostello.com/smileys/smug.gif Yup, 'twas Crusade. But I watched the pilot (L&C) this morning. After so long, I forgot how entertaining the show was. Okay, it's no SV, but Cain was easy on the eyes, and the chemistry between Lois and Clark was great, even if the show's FX wasn't. It may have been romantic camp most of the time, but I liked it for what it was. :)

DVD deluge set to impoverish TV fans in Q3 (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20050623/film_nm/dvd_dc/nc:790;_ylt=Ah6TgeqiKANS67HkT3.I.JQwFxkF;_ylu=X3oD MTBiMW04NW9mBHNlYwMlJVRPUCUl)

The crowded TV-to-DVD pipeline is threatening to burst in the third quarter, as studios announce an unprecedented number of season sets, including packages for "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," "The Simpsons" and "Smallville."
Each Tuesday has several high-profile releases, and Paramount alone has nearly two dozen titles slotted for the three summer months, including the first season and TV-to-DVD debut of "The Amazing Race."
"There are so many sets rolling out, and the studios are still making announcements," said Gord Lacey, who runs the Web site http://www.TVShowsOnDVD.com. "August will clear out people's bank accounts, and September will push them into debt."
What's behind the rush? Two factors, studio sources say: a weak theatrical slate, as studios hold their biggest summer blockbusters for the fourth-quarter holiday selling season, and the fact that all things TV are front-of-mind as the networks prepare to roll out their new seasons.
"The end of the third quarter is when new TV seasons launch, so there's a lot of awareness about TV programming in general," Feldstein said.
One of the busiest dates on the TV-to-DVD schedule is July 26, when releases include second-season sets of "The Brady Bunch," "Star Trek Enterprise," and "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," Season 1 sets of "Remington Steele" and "3rd Rock From the Sun," and Season 6 of "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman."
Another crowded date is Aug. 16: Season 6 of "The Simpsons," Season 4 of "Will & Grace," Season 3 of "The Andy Griffith Show," Season 5 of "I Love Lucy," and Season 1 of "The Office."
Seven sets are slotted for Sept. 13: Seasons 2 of "Charmed," "Las Vegas" and "The Pretender," Season 3 of "Taxi," Season 4 of "Smallville," and Seasons 6 of "Frasier" and "Cheers."
Lacey predicts two of the quarter's biggest sellers will be Season 1 sets of "Lost" (Sept. 6) and "Desperate Housewives" (Sept. 20).

Cool  Way to go Smallville.
I wondered, if that was why the ratings dropped off a little this year, cause people know how good the DVD sets are and they were waiting until the season was released on DVD. Generally speaking, they are quite affordable. And I always buy DVDs that I know have great special effects, I'm sure alot of people think along these lines.

Hey I've speculated about that before because I find myself doing just that. I'll catch Lost like that and hopefully the new Battle Star Galatica. Making time to watch/tape a show then have to sit through comercials is a pain. Plus no cliff hangers. :)

I've ordred mine as well. I got my L & C set a couple of days before the official release date so I was hoping I might get my Smallville as well.
Is Tivo the same as DVR?
It makes you wonder how they will deal with advertising in the future. Did everyone get the Jack in the Box ads during the last three episodes of Smallville this season? They flashed across the screen during the actual program and even during the credits.
I wondered if it was something that they just did here in California or if it was all over the country.

Basically it is a DVR but with more bells and whistles I believe.... I got DirecTV satellite with TiVO.... it's way cool but for some reason it doesn't appear to be networkable like a stand alone TiVO box is. I would love to download the digital files from my TiVO, but can't figure it out... the support for the DirecTV boxes is almost nonexistant... Most online support documentation for my box surrounds setting up the thing and using the remote, not networking.
I may have to resort to calling their tech support. Dang it. I hate calling support.

If you got it you wold have seen it, there was no way you could miss it. It took up nearly half the screen and there was a competition to win $10,000 (?). You just had to text message Clark. I've never seen that kind of advertising before, well only during sports events. I thought it was interesting.

TV networks find new ways to attract ads
By BRIAN STEINBERG
The Wall Street Journal

Traditional television commercials are increasingly easy to avoid, so advertisers have begun coming up with more creative methods for reaching consumers. ...
For instance, fast-food chain Jack In The Box earlier this year sponsored a trivia contest held for a San Diego WB station that asked fans of WB's Smallville to send text messages via cellphone.

I wonder what sort of response they got. My son kept pleading with me to do the text message, but we only have it set up on our cell phones as an extra feature, and I was too interested in what was happening on the show to run and get my cell.
WB San Diego seems to view Smallville in a big way. My son is in a Digital Media Club at school and they went to our local station to do some research and he said the place was full of Smallville promotional material. Curious if it is the same everywhere.

It's the ad that runs beside SHH's lead story photo.
In this case, it's a 30 Days of night story. When the ad runs in that box, it offers a trivia question.
When you answer the quesion it plays the scene.

I could see from the door the box was the LAST one there in the second display. OMG, I almost had a heart attack. I nearly knocked those people over when they stopped at the first display. LOL

After watching the Writers' Room feature, you can see how much Jeph Loeb really was part of the writing process. He will def. be missed on the show!
Anyway, only seen Crusade thus far, both w/ and w/o commentary. Annette O'Toole is cool!
But the BEST special feature on disc one? The Batman Begins DVD teaser!

Hope they keep it that way, too. I'd rather not be reminded of Warners' *other* comic book tentpole film in next year's SV DVD box set. Keep 'em separate, remember? :p

lol, I remember being very annoyed when I saw the trailer--I absolutely loved Batman Begins, but I don't want to see it every time I put in disc 1..you can't even skip it!.
I've watched all the deleted scenes--some twice, like the ones from Spell and Gone, and I even liked the Clark/Lana argument from Jinx.
I think its the first year I really wished they had found time to include the scenes they cut.
Oh and loved the commentaries too..I guess I like either Crusade or Transference best, but it just made me really wish TW had been on those commentaries.
The Spell commentary was fun, and I made my friend watch it with me so I wouldnt be tempted to fast forward through most of it (I reaaaly don't like that ep) Its nice the girls appreciate Tom so much:) and now I never need see it again, lol.

Dean Cain imitation??Yeah, Cain always stood with his arms crossed when he was Superman. It made him look bigger than he actually was. But Welling's upper and lower arms are huge to begin with, so when HE crosses his arms wearing a T-shirt, it emphasizes that vascular muscularity he already has and makes him look like a solid brick wall.

When he was holding the baby in Ageless, red t-shirt I think, his chest expanse was so obvious then.

I really enjoyed "Being Lois Lane" feature, It was done very well. I kinda wished Teri was also interviewed . (That would have been awesome.
I like The Flash episode (Wow , that was great.)
The "Cursade" Commentary by Erica Durance ("Lois Lane") and Annette O'Toole ("Martha Clark Kent") was SUPER .
The Commentary on "Transference" - by John Glover ("Lionel Luther") is unbelieveable .
The Commentary on "Spell" - by Kristin Kreuk ("Lana Lang"), Allison Mack ("Chloe Sullivan") and Erica Durance ("Lois Lane")
was funny.
In the Deleted scenes -
After "Gone", "Spell" "Onyx" & "Scare"
"Jinx" is my favorite - Clark telling Lana Off (Priceless) I enjoyed that scene so much . I wish it was in the episode.
Also, I think after hearing The "Cursade" Commentary by Erica Durance ("Lois Lane") and Annette O'Toole ("Martha Clark Kent"), That Annette O'Toole is the one Responsible for Lois/Erica for being in The Opening Credits & for the new Main Titles for Season 5.

Been watching the DVDs in preparation for the season premiere, and I must say, even though Facade and Devoted were not high on the totem pole in season 4, they actually weren't that terrible in retrospect. I realize what the biggest problem with those two eps actually was (aside from the lame FOTW plots), with the gigantic 2-part season opener of Crusade/Gone, the Facade/Devoted was a comedown in excitement and action.
But what I actually enjoyed upon second viewing was enough for me to think that those particular eps weren't half bad. For starters, the Clark/Lois chemistry is off the charts! I love those two together and would have loved to have seen them play off these roles in a Superman film.
Anyway, I hope rewatching some of the eps that I didn't like the first time around will make them better.

most eps of Smallville, even the lesser ones, are usually better when you watch them in sequence on the DVD's. The stories feel a lot more coherent since I think we tend to overlook some of the small details after not seeing an episode for a week..

What amazes me too is all the deleted scenes and how they can sometimes make a bit more sense of an episode. Particularly the scene between Genevieve and Lionel.

I finally watched the Spell commentary last night. I was cracking up through the whole thing! The girls seemed to sincerely get along really well and enjoy being together. I loved it when they were all dying laughing at the final scene where Lana touches the stone and apparently in one take, she screamed and fell completely over.
Allison seems very sincere and makes some great observations. KK made me laugh with her silly voice.. it's nice to see her loosen up and really show her sense of humor. ED asked some kinda goofy questions, but she was so funny with some of her comments, she was killing me. I also thought it was really nice how they all complimented each other.. ED and AM commenting on how well they thought KK did with the witch stuff.. KK telling ED how great she did with the dancing and how sexy she was...
The best was their comments and LAUGHING their butts off at Tom's dancing scene. When they said he still had on socks and dress shoes, I about died. :D I'm glad KK commented that he actually is an "excellent" dancer.. Although we saw he had good rhythm on the Angela Via video, it's nice to hear it verified.

Just thought I'd remind folks, the 2nd season of L&C hits the streets tomorrow (1/17/06). There's a review here (http://www.the-trades.com/article.php?id=3977), which ironically mentions SV near the end of the article:
While not as serious as today's Smallville, Lois & Clark up until this point provided well-done special effects, a decent amount of action and, surprisingly near the end, some unexpected emotional drama. Fans of the live-action incarnations of the Man of Steel won't be disappointed.
I'm looking forward to seeing these eps again. It's been quite a while. :)

I thought season 2 was the best season out of the 4 of them. It had some great stories, and they went to the Intergang storylines. I loved the epi with H.G. Wells I thought that was really well done. I'm looking forward to purchasing it.
And it might keep my Superman mind busy until Reckoning airs. :O

Clark's jacket isn't *bright* red to begin with, but it's definitely red. Bare in mind too that they appear to have maniped the jacket on him. Why they didn't just use one of the more recent promo photos is beyond me, but maybe they felt the pink shirt campaign wasn't representative of Clark. Technically, those pics were more Tom Welling than Clark Kent, if ya know what I mean...
