Yup! The last two episodes of series 2 of Doctor Who. Actually the Daleks appearing are supposed to be a secret

So can anybody here give me the low down on Torchwood? I see some posters here prefered it to the second series of Doctor Who, but some of my friends and family have told me it's a little bit too Welsh, meaning that it may not traslate well when sold to other countries because of the thick Welsh accents ( apart form Captain Jack ) Plenty of people I know in the states didn't get or understand the very British references in the first series of Doctor Who and they had a hard time trying to understand Chris Eccelestons accent. I would imagine the Welsh one will cause a few concerns too if it's as Welshcentric as I've been told.
Also as much as I appreciate the fact that both shows are made in Wales with Welsh production crews etc, if the 3rd series of Doctor Who features a Welsh city or town don't you think they're in danger of pushing the Welsh agenda a little too far now that they have a show set in Cardiff as well?
Of the principles (the Torchwood crew) I think only Gwen has a welsh accent, though being set in Cardiff it's natural that most of the other supporting characters who have or will appear also have the accent.
I don't know how distracting that may be to audiences abroad, but for me it was only distracting because in the UK atm we have a 'pot-noodle' ad campaign featuring welsh miners etc, that annoys the friggin hell out of me ("food of Britain" my @ss...stuff tastes like soggy cardboard, imo).
However...Jack stated that the base in Wales is 'Torchwood 3', With T2 being in Scotland, and T1 being the one in London destroyed at the end of the Doctors last season (theres also a Torchwood 4 but they have apparently 'lost' it somehow), so in theory at least they could be sending the team further afield than Wales for future stories (more buildings for them to stand at the top of for no apparent reason...)
Anyways, the main thing I think might kill this show, either here or abroad, is the overtly adult content: I really dont think removing the kiddie audience is the smartest move, nor is it entirely nessecary, but I guess they must think the audience is out there for a more adult take on Doctor Who like themes so who knows? Guess time will have to tell on that.

I saw the second ep now. I didn't think it was good as the first ep, but it still had it's postives.
It looks like Gwen is going to be the heart of a time devoid of it due to being consumed by their job. The whole idea of an alien shagging people to death seems like it's forcing the series into more adult territory when it really isn't needed. Although I never refuse to see lesbianism in some form, so that was a plus.
The script was fairly standard with a few high points. The team do seem likeable and you culd grow to care about these characters in some fashion. I do like the Gwen character though, she's a very human presence in a situation which is very alien.
Oh and I don't know why, but something leads me to believe Gwen's boyfriend might not be around by the end of the series. I could be wrong, but that's the feeling I get.

Why is the main character from torchwood crappy? The only decent characters were own and Jack, and the alien that possesses people is so cliche! And how come they have much worse set up than torchwood one? They are so disorganised, and as an alien, cpt jack would have been caprtured by torchwood!!!
However, still liked it, and thinking the series will get better and become amazing! More cpt Jack I say!

They mentioned he was from a time so far in the future that planets meant nothing, as in races merged, and that it was like a new race, because they didn't differentiate, and the entire race was bi-sexual, it's in the london blitz episode where they meet him I seem to remember

We know he's from the 51st century, and that by that point, humanity has become sexually "fliexible" due to our deep dark urge to make whoopy with hot green aliens. We don't know if Jack is actually part alien (the human race survives well into the year 6billion, and I'm sure Lady Cassandra had to have known other "pure breeds" before she went on a cosmetic marathon), or even where in the universe he was born.
Jack could easily be a 51st century American human who grew up pansexual. Or he could be a half-Krillitane from some unnamed human colony on the edge of nothing. We really don't know.

Who says we Brits aren't liberated? We have Torchwood, a sci-fi action show that's producer and star are both homosexuals.
Well, the true next step is to convince them that NO ONE ELSE cares what their orientation is, and we don't need to be reminded constantly. Have them concentrate on making GOOD shows, not GAY shows.

K9 – The Series
Doctor who’s favourate companion returns in his own live action and CGI series .
GENRE: Comedy
Running Time: 26 x 1/2 hr episodes
PREMISE
Somewhere in the future…
An old Prairie class spacecraft is drifting towards distant stars. She is The “ Platte ” once used for the colonisation of Asteroids.
On board are:-
SLOCUM - mid-thirties, rugged, taciturn who thinks of himself as a dealer in valuable commodities - others would say he just collects junk! He is a loner – a space gypsy! It's the only way he knows. He's in no hurry to get anywhere and he stays well off the beaten track.
DJINN - a V997 (F), an overactive computer module in the shape of an attractive young woman. She was programmed by the ship's previous owners to provide stimulating conversation. Something that SLOCUM would happily change if only he had knowledge of her operating codes!
Together they discover an apparently abandoned battle cruiser. Whereupon they meet K-9!
The adventures begin...

I'm really hoping Martha's not as obviously attracted to the Doctor as Rose was. Hopefully Davies can get all the sexual tension he wants out of the more "adult" Torchwood and not cram it into Doctor Who, where it has no business being as far as I'm concerned.

I'd prefer Eccleston back, but I like Tennant, too. I was mostly disappointed in the stories last season, not in Tennant's Doctor. He could be too goofy at times, but each Doctor has his own quirks and I guess that's his. I'd much prefer it if they brought him back to the personality he had in the first couple of episodes, where he was exploring what his new personality was, and he eventually came up with a really goofy surface but a deadly serious darkness underneath it. More of that darkness would be nice, since it seemed to have been entirely abandoned in favor of quirky one-liners and 3-D glasses by the end of the season.
Huh. I didn't intend to wander into a rant there. Oh well, I'm just hoping the next season will be as good as the first. Maybe Davies should hire some new writers.

Also, Tennant's catchphrase is nowhere near as good as Eccleston's. "Fantastic" was great, because it showed his curiosity and excitement toward new experiences (both good and bad). "Impossible" is just sorta... meh. His "some cowboys in here" line from "Fire in the Fireplace" was better.

this has probably been talked about forever on here but ive just found this topic so indulge me. What the hell is the bad wolf? At first i thought it was goddess rose and then when it had been removed by the doctor it was gone but then in tooth and claw the wolf says- i sense the wolf in you too. so is it a physical thing? Was this wolf brought out by the tardis energy?the tardis energy was removed so did the wolf remain. why is the wolf there? etc and now billies gone we may never know:(

the badwolf was godrose and how it came about throught the course of series one is correct(if a bit dodgy), with bad wolf being all over the place(even in a spider-man comic), leading rose back to the dr, or atleast letting her make the link that there was something she could do to help him.
the host sencing the wolf in rose in T&C may have been something that would have been expanded on if billie hadn't decided to leave, or it may have just been a throwaway line or a nod to fans....maybes....

i'm guessing that since RTD has sadi that rose will be back in "one form or another"(unless RTD has been talking bull again)then thats where we will see the wolf in her.....to be honest as soon as that was mentioned i instantly thought "...in bed..." lol

i want it at least a series away- i want the doctor to deal with the loss throughout this series- maybe by making his new assistant not feel good enough then for something rose to happen. Or maybe a cult worshipping the bad wolf - i guess that would be cool. why is the bad wolf removing all knowledge of her? Its definitely not done too many unanswered questions. At least we still have tennant, probably my favourite doctor ever- mostly for the new earth cassandra possession scene

Yeah, but the plot sounds bad. Its a show for the wee kiddies too, so t'would not be entertaining.
but it's by RTD and an hour long...kids don't have the attention span to watch something i wonder if you can make women out of cheese....hm

It's been confirmed that the forthcoming Eighth Doctor Audio adventure 'Human Resources' (a Cyberman episode) will feature the Doctor's Death and regeneration
Lord Valumart
12-09-2006, 06:31 PM
isn;t that from Big Finish?
i was under the impression that they weren;t allowed to do that sort of stuff....plus wouldn;t his regeneration be during the time war....damn continuity issues:cmad::(
Mister Sinister
12-09-2006, 06:37 PM
Yep Big Finish ARE doing that, but I don't know where the rights issues will come into this, I'm sure Russell and Phil of all people would allow Big Finish to tie together the continuity of both series.

RTD said he'd like the spin-off material to tell the tale of the Eighth-to-Ninth regeneration. But as to if he regenerated during the Time War, it's not established by anyone. Yes, he commented on his looks in the mirror in Rose. But I sometimes look at my hair a few weeks after getting it cut and still lament and comment on it. It's very well possible that because of the Time War, he was a bit too worried about other things than to notice how his ears looked like.

Actually, someone from Big Finish has posted on OG saying it ain't happening and the Radio Times ****ed up.

i have faith davies can do it right though- he seems to know what he's doing. there has been two good series hopefully he won't throw it down the toilet
from wikipedia-
In August 2006, the tabloid newspaper The Sun reported that the Rani would return in the 2007 series, played by Footballer's Wives actress Zöe Lucker.[1] However, this was subsequently denied by the BBC.[2]
they still said it in today's TV guide though

i saw the trailer before robin hood tonight- i got tingles, it looks really cool. it was odd when they were running though because he used to take rose's hand and drag her along but the bride couldn't keep up and he just kept on running. i can see him definitely be more distant in the next series. but lord valumarts avi tells me different.

so I was perusing Wikipedia's entry on the Marvel Comics character Death's Head (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death%27s_Head) and apparently he's encountered the Doctor on several occasions, as well as the Transformers and the Fantastic Four. anyone know which Doctor it was? has the Doctor ever interacted with the Transformers directly? is it canon?!

Ahhh yes.
It was McCoys doctor ... he bumped into Death's Head in a Marvel UK holiday special ... DH and the Tardis hit each in the time stream if memory serves ...
The Doctor was the one who reduced DH to the size of a large human .... before he was the same size as the Transformers.

just finished re-watching 'Doomsday' and it got me to thinking, is there another Doctor in the parallel universe Rose ends up in?
04nbod
12-20-2006, 11:51 AM
rose was a dog in the parallel universe- the doctor could be an actual doctor in venuzuela for all we know. or the opposite happens and the doctor from there got trapped in our dimension
Mister Sinister
12-20-2006, 12:08 PM
In the parallel world, it stands to reason that there IS a time lord called the Doctor as otherwise, Torchwood wouldn't have been created.

There is no parralel universe doctor, as the Time lords are from the multiverse, in fact the doctor mentions when the gateways between dimensions used to be free flowing, so no parrallell doctor I'm afraid:(

Looking forward to seeing Catherine Tate in action, but hope they don't ham her up too much focussing on the comedy just because she's a comedian. The one scene I've seen so far (Her trapped in the back of a moving car in her wedding dress whilst the Doctor gives chase in the Tardis) is very 'Catherine Tate'. Made me laugh, but I don't want it none stop through the show.
