he plays the professor which is a time lordish name but not the master- unless we get surprised

Doesn't The Professor already exist in Who-lore? Isn't he the University don who disguises his tardis as his college rooms?

the answer to life the universe and everything is that stasis paradime finch was after in the whoverse
more spoilers. - Episode 12 contains the words 'cruciform', Wild endeavour', a very crucial 'yes' from someone unexpected and the sentance 'who wants to spend their life in school?'

the last one has to be either martha or mr finch(please let it be the latter)
cruciform- a carry on of the religious metaphor for jack- dying rising again ascending to heaven(i.e the tardis at the end of torchwood?)

Lord Valumart

The return of the Master would be incredibly sweet. I knew it would only be a matter of time before more Time Lords started showing up, despite all of the Doctor's "I'm the last of my kind" talk. The Time Lord villains are just too much fun not to bring back. I'm glad it'll be this season, too. The Master is my favorite of the villains I've encountered so far in my limited viewing experience with Doctor Who.

Forget about writing letters. The way it works is that you send your work to the script editors at the production office, they turn it down, you send it again, they turn it down with some tips, you rewrite and try again, etc.

Either that or you know someone who works on the team.

Yep, March 2007 is all the BBC have stated.

I have a lot of hope for the third series. The new Doctor/Companion pairing seems like it will be less touchy-feely and emotional, and more serious, so we can get on with some more exciting and dramatic stories.

this series won't be as emotional as the last in companion terms- i can't see martha having a 'fathers day' type episode. as for the doctor

well of course but whether he shows up in this series is another matter. also he was trapped/ eaten by the tardis in the TV movie. i could see him being released for the war though.

You got upset as well me too lol, I thought I was sad for like getting upset hehe, what ending did you find more emotional?

Jack is going to be gutted when he find out about Rose.

i found doomsday more emotional, none of the characters 'died' in the parting of the ways. jack had gone but then there was torchwood, and rose was still around and the doctor just changed.that hologram though, tears rolling down the cheeks. Now doomsday it was a true parting as in we may never see her again. its so cute looking at the newsround, doctor who messageboard they think rose isn't gone but changed into freema. they are all like 'billie is a better rose than freema'. thats adorable. and sad:csad:

and if we don't see jack learning about rose and how he feels especially after how he reacted in bad wolf when he thought she had turned to dust i will be furious. i think RTD is better than that though.

Woah! Potentially HUGE news for Season 3, and the return of somone to rival ANYONE in Season 1 AND 2!

From the Indepenedent on Sunday (a broadsheet newspaper that is HIGHLY reliable):-

With the popular cult telefantasy series Life on Mars returning for a final time on BBC1 this Tuesday, the Independent on Sunday newspaper have a profile and interview with the lead actor, John Simm, which starts off with the statement:

"Travelling back through the years for hit show 'Life on Mars' has given the actor more fame than he knows how to cope with. But now he reveals to Liz Hoggard a new role that will mean seeing a Doctor."

During the course of the interview the article goes on to seemingly confirm a rumour first raised in the Sun by saying the following:

Although the BBC is planning a spin-off to Life on Mars - called Ashes to Ashes, set in the 1980s and starring Glenister, Simm is bowing out. "My instinct tells me not to hang around too long."

He'd like to do some comedy "in warm weather - preferably on a beach. I always seem to be doing drama in horrible brick locations." And for years he's been dying to play a proper villain or a serial killer. The problem is Simm still looks 35 going on 15, but finally he's got the chance: he's just been cast in Dr Who - as the Master, the Doctor's evil nemesis. He'll be quite brilliant, of course, but heaven knows how he'll cope with a whole new horde of obsessive Tardis fans.

according to the media guardian and the sun the doctor will get a child at the end of the new run

Doctor Daddy
As any self respecting Doctor Who fan knows the Time Lord has a maximum number of 13 'regenerations'. With David Tennant being incarnation number 10, the Sun reports today that BBC writers have decided that to keep the franchise going by giving Doctor Who a child at the end of the next series.

A journalist on OG did some research and found out that the person responsible for the Simm/Master leak was John Simm's Publicist.

We have our Master :D

maybe concieved before the time war and the child survived- maybe rose lied at the end of doomsday:woot: i'm fairly sure he's compatible with humans after all look at the human half breeds in the end of the world and the 'dancing' with other species in the empty child.

more gossip on the master posted kindly by markanstead at OG

Hello everyone

Thought it might be helpful if I had a quick chat with the interviewer who wrote Sunday's interview with John Simm and ask her the direct question - did he actually say he had been cast as The Master?

It turns out (like I thought) that the interview took place more than a month ago (before The Sun report - there's usually a fairly long lead time given to these features). It was only in the week or so leading up to going to print that she received a call from his publicist.

John has recently changed publicists and this was the old one who had set up the interview. She threw in the tidbit that he had been cast as The Master because she thought it would help spice up the piece. The interviewer reported it as straight fact as she was given it (explains why no quotes and why the editor felt confident enough to refer to it in the introduction - a personal publicist is felt to be a reliable source of information).

She says she had no idea it would kick up such a fuss and she thinks the publicist is now regretting the slip - I got the impression she has heard that the poor girl has since been told off (by the BBC?).

In any case, she doesn't want to be dragged into anything more about it. I think she feels it was something that shouldn't really have slipped out. If any of you fancy passing this info on, please keep her name out of it.

Bottom line - The Independent were categorically told he had been cast by someone who was in a position to know. Simm's posturing on the Radio 6 interview is, to my mind, an attempt at post-leak damage control.

Hell, it could be a kid the Doctor already knew he had, and not some "long lost" one. He did throw in that "I was a dad, once" line in one episode. He could be reunited with Susan's dad/mom.

Basically, I'm having a hard time getting upset at the prospect that a man who's former companion was his granddaughter might have a son/daughter in a future episode.

When is the new series of Dr. Who starting? I thought it was the Saturday during Easter weekend in April, but TV Times says it starts in March?

And Touchwood starting in 2008?

If that was the case, Captain Jack would have a son in next season's Torchwood.

Besides, I like to think everyone has learned by now that Conner was a largantic mistake who was only half-way interesting in the show's final 2 or 3 episodes.

i hated conner- and who is saying that jack isn't the doctor's son. there is tons of religious symbolism to back it up in torchwood. :woot: i think there would be a riot!:oldrazz:

depends on the mother- i would count on a human mother if it does show up making it half human or a quarter human depending where you stand on the TV movie revelation that the doctor himself is half human

Doesn't everyone essentially forget that little tid-bit from the movie?

04nbod
02-14-2007, 05:35 PM
no not the hard core fans they are still livid and that is from 1996!i personally don't mind it. a book says his mother was human and called penelope. the spec series for mcgann that didn't happen said his father was a gallifreyan explorer who took a human wife and masses of research back to gallifrey. then they said his fathers name was Odysseus which i have to say is awful!

rtd doesn't either the new series is full of nods to that movie

You say that as if the Doctor didn't already have a grandkid following him around years ago. Keep in mind, the Doc is 900+ years old, and we have no clue how old this alleged kid is. He/she could be an adult.

This got me thinking about the continuity issues with the Doctor's age (I remembered the fourth Doctor saying he was 756) so I went to good old Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_(Doctor_Who)#The_Doctor.27s_age). Interesting stuff. Maybe he spent a century or so fighting the Time War.

Well, we don't necessarily know the gap between the final 7th Doctor episode and the movie, or the gap between the movie and the Time War.

Personally, i think having the doctor's son/daughter make an actual appearance in the series, would be bad. I mean, most fans realise he has one, but having them turn up would take away some mystique of the character.

(American Top Gear was so funny: 'some say he was a CIA experiment that went wrong...other say that he only eats cheese')

I agree, it will make the Doctor feel more human by having a kid, so I hope he doesn't.

So here's a question from an uninformed Yank---

Was Rose really a chav, or were the references to her being such intended to merely be a joke? She was poor working-class, and came from the appropriately "chav" part of town, right? She did seem to have a fixation with her cell phone at times and I cringed whenever she said "nufin'" and refered the the Emperor Dalek as "Em'pra".

However, I don't recall her wearing Burberry or sporting fake gold bling, and since she wasn't an idiot, is that enough to let her off the "chav" accusation?

Manic
02-15-2007, 08:47 PM
*looks up the word "chav"*

Rose wasn't a chav. She was a little cockney when she spoke, but I'd hardly call her a chav.

Cyrusbales
02-16-2007, 09:38 AM
she was a bit chavvy, although not slaggy enough to be a true chav, she could also use tri-syllabic words

yep but it was just reported in the papers again. last time it was a comment by peter davison. No it wasn't. It was all over the OG forums at least two months ago.

i must have picked up a paper with really backwards reporting then.:o probably reading OG thinking they know everything- notice though there are virtually no spoilers in the spoiler section over there.

onto here, rose was not a chav- she had an accent that is working class and commonly associated with chavs but its hardly her fault. i think the chav joke in new earth was a joke at those who thought she was and those who think they are better than others because of their accent or class. i never saw her the least bit chavvy and i know some scouse chavs!
