"The Dalek" has become one of my favorite Doctor Who episodes of all time. I thought the unusual approach to the Dalek- alone, and forced to use its own intelligence and cunning to facilitate its escape- was inspired, as was its character development. And Eccleston was great.

but you said bruno langley was a good actor!!!

and the dalek had feelings, aaaaah....
i said for a soap.

thats where the acting talent is between 0 and 4(this being Bradly Walsh), concidering Doctor WHo should have actors of levels 8 and upwards.

The Doctor might not have fought in the war at all. The Dalek claimed that the Doctor survived because he was a coward, and its words seemed to hit home.

Don't think so. Early on, the Doctor says he "watched it happen" (referring to the death of the Dalek fleet), followed immediately by the "I made it happen" outburst.

Can't get much clearer than that.

Anyone else think that Rose and the Doctor are going to end up at the time of the war in the season finale?

I had toyed with the idea, but I simply think it would be too expensive for the BBC to carry off convincingly. Unless they're on a single Dalek ship. Which would be immensely cool.

Lord Valumart
05-02-2005, 04:25 PM
well, Englishman, they may have, but it is more likely that the Daleks killed the Time Lords, then the Doctor, the last time lord, killed "all" the Daleks.

regwec
05-02-2005, 07:30 PM
Didn't the Doctor supposedly kill all of the Daleks first in The Genesis of the Daleks and then in Rememberance of the Daleks, anyway? We already know the Daleks will return in a later episode, so I have the impression that the Doctor is misled over what exactly happened in the Time War.

P. Cushing

Or he just goes back in time to when the Daleks were still alive. That's the great thing about time travel shows.

regwec

No, I don't think so, otherwise there would be no talk of the Doctor being the last Timelord, or the imprisoned Dalek being the last of its kind. The supposedly extinct Timelords would be crossing paths constantly as they travelled through time. No, I think it is implicit that both sides were completely erased from time and space.

Well P. Cushing I swear in one of the episodes Tom Baker gets strangled by one of the 'pure form' Darleks, but we never get to see its body just one those tentacle's ...

You are correct -- sort of.

In Genesis of the Daleks, the first ep with Davros, there was indeed a scene where a Dalek life form attacks Tom Baker, but it was a "proto-Dalek" that was more primitive than the later Dalek life-forms.

Since we've already had "The Three Doctors" and "The Five Doctors", wouldn't it be great to see "The Four Doctors" in David Tennant's run? It could even quite handily reveal the Eighth Doctor's regeneration and/or revolve around one of the Seventh Doctor's master plans (oh, he was a schemer, that one).

The idea is probably unfeasable due to Chris Ecclestone's salary, but, still, it's nice to dream.

We could have a big 10 Doctors special with Ian Richardson as the 1st, David Suchet as the 2nd, Geoffrey Rush as the 3rd, Tom Baker as the 4th (he spends most of the story captured by the main villain and in shadow), Peter Davison as the 5th, Colin Baker as the 6th, Sylvester McCoy as the 7th, Paul McGann as the 8th, Chris Eccletson as the 9th and Dave Tennant as the 10th.

Too unwieldy; Colin Baker's let himself go; Davison's too old; many fans wouldn't accept the first three Doctor substitutes (no matter how good the replacements); and the whole thing would have to take place in at least 4 episodes.

Nice idea, though. It'd probably be a lot of fun, too.

Actually, on that note, has anyone noticed the remarkable resemblance between the dad on that God-awful BBC sitcom "My Family" and Patrick Troughton? Robert Lindsey, or something similar.

BTW, this is a question from a Doctor Who newcomer aka me. What is Bad Wolf? Is it something from previous series' of the show?

He didn't. He said someone probably will at some point.
I was destined to be disappointed after the superb DALEK, but THE LONG GAME is worse than I thought it would be. The Doctor's an unlikeable git, acting like a sexually frustrated horny teenager and making snide comments about Rose and Adam, Simon Pegg hamming it up as the Editor (he was possessed by Tony Ainley) and the whole episode was a virtual rehash of The End of the World, but without the great moments between the Doctor and the lead good female guest star.
On the plus side, I liked the jabs at Fox News, the direction and the throwback to the Gary Williams era.

I'm impressed. Particularly by your pacing; there are plenty of published authors out there who don't recognise the underlying importance of rythmn to a story.

There's a Doctor Who magazine, isn't there? Do they do short stories? Come up with a clever idea for a past Doctor and, well, who knows?

Keep up the good work.

Now, as to "Boomtown" - I don't see what the fuss is all about. I found it an interesting little character-piece with excellent acting from everyone involved. It was tight, self-contained and suitably refreshing for something set to be sandwiched between two explosive two-parters.

In fact, my only real complaint was the unashamedly deus ex machina nature of the ending. The same could be said of "The Doctor Dances", true, but we were afforded a little foreshadowing in that episode. However, the resolution seemed fitting enough and I was thoroughly entertained.

There'll be plenty of time for fireworks next week, folks. Nothing wrong with a little diversity.

The BBC announced it themselves. After Chris left, they announced that Tennant was "already the frontrunner" to succeed (wtf?). They then had an online poll of who people wanted as the next Doctor, in which Tennant came last. A week later, the BBC cheerfully announced that we would damn well take Tennant and like him.

I have no doubt that Davies had Tennant lined up for the role for months.

Yeah, he was both irritating and ineffectual in both. The Scottish accent isn't going to help matters, either, unless they can come up with an extremely good explanation for the change (vis. better than "lots of planets have a North").

The picture above is a disappointment. It seems that Tennant has been cast as a sort of pale immitation of Chris. It's obvious that Chris outclasses him, so they would do better to just take the next Doctor down a different path. It's a relief that Tennant didn't get his way in giving the Doctor a kilt, however...

Opinions aside, we've never needed an especially good explanation for why the Doctor's changed personality, accent, etc. before so why start now? He's regenerated. He's got a Scottish accent. Deal with it. Hell, Sylvester McCoy rolled his R's for all they were worth.

History of Regenerations

Ist - 2nd: The Doctor simply got to old for that body
2nd - 3rd: It was forced by the Time-Lords
3rd - 4th: He got radiation sickness
4th - 5th: He fell off a tower
5th - 6th: He got poisoned
6th - 7th: He (honestly) bumped his head on the TARDIS console
7th - 8th: Got shot
8th - 9th: Unknown (described in the last Eighth Doctor book)
9th - 10th: Probably killed by the Daleks.

In an inverted sense, there is a kind of 'gay look'. It can be measured by the amount of interferance someone would be subjected to in a prison shower.

So you mean he looks effeminate?

1 : Having feminine qualities untypical of a man : not manly in appearance or manner
2 : Marked by an unbecoming delicacy or overrefinement.

Anyways you guys are very comfortable with your sexuality especially since the traditional dress is for men to wear a skirt. ( Kilt )

I've never seen David Tennant act so I'm wondering how good he is.

the Kilt rules all form of lower clothing!!!

David's a good actor, don't worry, he may not be as good as Chris, but he's still good.

Chris sure is a tough act to follow. His acting was great when he thought Rose was dead in the last episode.

The Kilt does indeed rule all forms of lower clothing! :D

Yeah, it won't be the same without Chris but that happens everytime we get used to a Doctor, and then he regenerates to be played by another actor. I felt the same about Jon Pertwee. I was so upset when he got replaced by this strange looking guy called Tom Baker, then after a few episodes I really took to Pertwee's replacement, and ended up loving Tom's Doctor.

At least we'll still have Mark Gatiss / Russel T Davis onboard to write some of the episodes for season 2, so we know the stories should be pretty good.

Can someone fill me in on the doctor who big bads please? ive heard of omega, the master and davros ? who are they and which are natives of gallifrey, do you guys think that since they revealed that in fact all the daleks had not been wiped out that there may be another living timelord???? :p

Lord Valumart
06-15-2005, 12:12 PM
well, i'm not to familiar with the Doctor and such, but when Patrick was the Doctor(no. 2), he got exiled to earth by the Timelords on Gallifrey. He was forced to regenerate, into John(no. 3). he was on earth until after the Three Doctors story, when the secrets of time travel were given back to him. thats something about the time lords and how they aren't allowed to interfear with history or something.

in the 96 movie(which McCoy was wasted on, since he was shot)where Paul is the Doctor(no. 8)they killed The Master, but he turned into this weird goo snake and possesed this surgen dude. then he got sucked into the Eye of Harmony and, i presume, is still there. however, they don't appear to be talking about the 8Th doctor, since in Confidential on BBC 3 show clips from most of the other Doctors, i've only saw them show one clip of Paul. i beleive that since the Master was an evil timelord, that he was involved witht he Daleks surviving, since i don't think the Daleks have any time travel devices, and that they wouldn't have survived what ever wiped out the timelords.

in short:
timelords dead=most likely
Master alive=possibly
your orrigonal question=cybermen, daleks, er, others. i beleive only the master is a fellow timelord, though there was a dark doctor who's name escapes me at the moment, who claimed to be a future regeneration of the doctor, but since he hasn't appeared, he's probably been sort of destroyed, since he was supposed to be something like the 7th doctor, who was becoming darker and more cunning near the end of his run. there's also the white figure who helped the Doctor regenerate from Tom(4th) to Peter(5th), who people beleive was a future Doctor, since he sort of walked into the Doctor and cacooned him, before he regenerated.

not sure if that answers anything at all, but i appears to help you out in some way or an other, ETHERSPIN :)
