wow that episode is the first that I actully found scary. The build up of suspense was really well executed and I really didn't see The Doctors plan coming. My favourite episode so far. Looking forward to the return of Captain Jack Harkness.

Slightly reminded me of the ending from Back To The Future 2 .... using a letter to communicate with people far in the future, mere seconds after you have been with them.

I enjoyed it, I wouldn't say it was the scariest episode yet, though. That was the Empty Child/The Doctor Dances. That actually made me hide behind the sofa.

I really liked tonights epsiode was cool, the way the people ended up in different times and she got letters or visited Billy when he was old, even though 5mins before she saw he all young.
Did like the converstion with the DVD player as well.

I thought it was a good epsiode one of the best so far, and the ending was funny, they hadn't meet yet and the bow and arrow whats with that I want to know! lol,.

actualy i wrote an outline for a TV series about a secrect governmet think tank made up of the greatest minds of our generation...all experts in their feilds of scifi and comic knowalge with the singular job to put that knowalge to the use of protecting mankind from supervillians and alien invasions...might have been good...

Oh s*** that was creepy! I loved it. I'm surprised I did. It was a Doctor-lite episode, but unlike Love & Monsters, it held my interest. This second half of season/series 3 is really kicking the first half's ass.

Only one problem with this episode...
Super-Phone!
Really, the letters and hospital meeting were a nice touch. Love them. Made the episode more mysterious and creepy. But for the sake of being practical, they could've used Martha's super-phone. Billy even had her phone number!

On another note, it's weird how Martha has just blown through several months of her life, and the Doctor intends to return her home exactly 2 days after they met.

I can't begin to speak for LV, but I can rattle off some things I've noticed most people dislike about Martha.

-She's "rebound girl." Doctor loved Rose. It's sweet, sure. But it's also unconventional to get romance in Doctor Who, so the last thing any of us wanted was for Martha and the Doctor to 'get on' that way. And what do we get from Martha's very first episode? She falls in love with him. And her feelings aren't returned. This means we're treated to (at least once every episode) Martha pining over the Doctor, while he ignores her. It makes her look like a lovesick idiot. Like if she weren't his assistant, and had she her own time/space machine, she'd be his stalker. If Martha was just content with being the Doctor's new best friend, we'd all be much happier.

-She's a poor man's Rose. With Martha, we're getting everything we already got with Rose: the super-phone, and key to the TARDIS, a trip to the year 5 billion back-to-back with meeting a dead literary genius haunted by aliens who appear to be supernatural beasties, and a "she/he's my 'plus one'" joke. Martha can't even be her own character, because everything about her just feels like a pathetic attempt to repeat Rose, only black and middle class.

-She's a medical intern who's rarely shown any ability to practice medicine. I'm not saying they should 'Aquaman' her (ie. in episodes of Superfriends, villains would conveniently make their getaway by sea, finally giving Aquaman a reason to tag along) and have someone need medical advice every episode, but dear god, nobody's rolling with it. Were I a writer on this show (guys, I feel a "fantasy series" idea rolling on), I'd have written an episode that shows off her medical skills, redeems her as a character, and makes her independent from Rose. Not just a "Martha, people are injured. Stay here and help them, off-camera" moment.

-Freema's not exactly a good actress. She's okay most of the time, but oh boy, those episodes when she has to emote...

I have to agree. Most of my problems with Martha stem from the lovesick pining and the fact that the Doctor's basically reliving his relationship with Rose through her. Now Jack's coming back in the next episode, and of course he's also in love with the Doctor because he's in love with everything that moves at some point. They need to just recruit a pair of companions who're completely head-over-heels for each other. Just keep the Doctor out of it. :o

That's not saying much, given that Rose herself was a pretty useless waste of space. But I think most of the hate comes from the romantic tension, as Manic noted. A lot of Doctor Who fans (myself included) feel that romance has no place in the show, at least as far as the Doctor himself falling in love, and it gets annoying watching the Doctor pine silently for Rose while Martha pines very audibly and frequently for the Doctor.

Agreed, but i think it looks like she is getting over him as the series progresses and seeing him in more of a platonic light.

key to tardis is symbolic, definately needed, although i will agree, when he fixed her phone it seemed alittle bland as it had happened before. It seems they are allergic to negativity. I swear bonnie langford could come back and give her most dire performance and they would praise how she has improved and how did the show ever get by without her. I wasn't cross. The poster asked me why and i gave a reason. I don't hate freema. Her job is to act and thats what we should judge like any good reviewer does. If she can't take the criticism its not the right job for her. You say she's a good actress i have every right to disagree and say she's a bad actress. I had no problem with her acting in the human nature 2 parter, other than the 'why doesn't he fancy me' lines and her trying to look tough in front of the family but two scenes in one and a half hours isn't bad and you will not have seen me complaining about those particular episodes.

Although Sally was a much better character than most of the one shot throwaways so far, and the angel things, they were great because they couldn't mess them up with shoddy CGI or anything, so a very clever use of lack of resources, this is the sort of mindframe they should be in!

But time travelers don't see time in a linear fashion. They jump around too much. To the Doctor, time isn't linear when he has the TARDIS.

And since when do things happen differently when a Time Lord visits somewhere twice? Where have we seen that happen in the new show? Father's Day? Because those events would occurred the exact same way, had Rose not done anything.

The episode works under a massive paradox (but what episode of Doctor Who doesn't?). The Doctor meets Sally Sparrow, she gives him a baggy that details events that will soon happen to him, and he commits it all to memory. That way, when the Weeping Angels eventually send him back to 1969, he does everything Sally said he did/will do (write on the walls of the house, record a video, tell Shipton to publish the video in 17 DVDs, ect). The Doctor pretty much has to do everything Sally said he did in that baggy of clues, otherwise time collapse on itself (2/3 of the universe, and all that).

Was anyone else surprised by how intense Tennant was in his DVD message to Sally? The whole "don't blink, don't even look away" part, I mean. He's so goofy 99.9999% of the time that that took me by surprise. It was a pleasant surprise, though, and it reminded me of his debut against the Sycorax, where he very coldly proclaimed himself the kind of man who doesn't give second chances. Of course, he then goes right back into full-on goofy mode with his "timey-wimey, wibbly-wobbly" garbage. I really wish we could see that intense, dark side to Tennant's Doctor more often.

My point about time travel is explained nicely in the episode where they go back to watch Rose's father's death, time FOR THE TIME LORD is linear, otherwise the problem would have been solved already and there would be a solution already have happened.

Otherwise, there would only be determinism, and he'd never have to worry about failing because time was predestined for him, he is almost outside of regular time, time for him is like a location, not a "time". so it's where he's going more than when if you like.... figure?

As it’s a minute by minute it’s was written as I watching it so I have decided not to follow up the clues about what is happening (I hope you know what I mean). It’s a cracking episode, say what you like about Russell T Davies after that he’s allowed to look a smug as he wants.

The Tardis arrives in Cardiff and the Doctor explains the rift in time and space to Martha and the need for the Tardis to refuel or as Martha calls it a ‘pit stop’.
Here comes Jack with his great big backpack. Wasn’t it dark when he disappeared in Torchwood?
Jack leaps for the Tardis as it is disappearing; he’s obviously done something as the Tardis is hurtling very far into the future

Professor’s radar has picked up the Tardis.
Doctor says that not even the Time Lords came this far; he says he reckons they should flee, aha he’s joking, the Doctor is never a wimp!
Martha finds Jack, looking for a pulse
Doctor recognises Jack, doesn’t look all that pleased to see him, yep the Doctor definitely not keen.
Jack wakes up. Doctor and Jack start sparking off each other.

Both Jack and Martha are having a go at the Doctor; he shuts them up with a nice quip about blogging!
They arrive at a big hole in the ground. It’s a sort of city.
Doctor explains that everything is dying, as it’s the end of the Universe.

Back on point, sorry. They run to a guarded industrial complex where they have to show their teeth to get in.

The rescued human asks to be taken to Utopia. Doctor is asking after his Tardis.
Humans seem to be hiding in the complex. Martha calls it a refugee camp. Doctor is his excitable self. Jacks start flirting with a refugee.
Doctor and Jack warming to each other.
They find a really big rocket – the humans are passengers for the rocket.
The Professor meets the Doctor, passes mad max person in disguise on the way.
This is turning out to be classic Doctor Who, all impossible machines, silly words and dodgy costumes.

Martha unpacks Jacks stuff, finds the Doctors hand in a jar
Breakthrough on Martha/Doctor chemistry - the flirting between Martha and Doctor is now on a Rose scale but slightly different, Martha is good at the smart remarks.

Professor explains the mad max people are what the humans will become unless they reach Utopia.
Professor shows Utopia on a map, It’s a beacon calling the last of the humans to it. The Utopia project was created thousands of years ago to preserve humanity at the end of time.
Professor's having another seizure whilst the Doctor fiddles with the computer. Doctor knows that the rocket won’t fly. And knows the Prof hasn’t told anyone about it.
Doctor is coming out with gobbledegook, whacks out the sonic screwdriver and fixes the footprint. (Sorry, bear with me).

Passenger’s are now boarding the big rocket.
Mad Max infiltrator is giving Martha dirty looks.
More gobbledegook. They created the system out of glue, food and staples. The Professor is called Yana. He and Doctor having a cosy chat.
Someone has to stay behind to activate the footprint. But it’s OK, the Tardis has been found so the Professor can catch up with everyone else.
Professor is ailing. He has a constant noise inside his head, the sound of drums getting closer and closer. He says he’s had it all his life.
Octo woman fancies the Professor. Martha is teasing Octo woman.
Man in James Bond-esque radioactive suit goes into bright red room under the rocket to fix something to get the rocket to go. The room is full of radiation.
Oh dear. Doesn’t seem to be going well, they can’t seem to get the fuel cells out of the tubey things
Infiltrator alert! She’s gone and pressed a load of buttons. What a *****! Stop speaking Parseltongue!
She’s bloody well gone and lobbed a dirty great thing at the fuse box.
Jack does something and stupid

They’ve got a room where no man can get into without dying… Enter Captain Jack and lots of running down a corridor.
Jack goes into the room in his scanties. Says something cryptic. ‘How long since you’ve known’
Doctor ‘Ever since I run away from you.’ What can that mean?
Jack puts pants back on and goes into radiation room.
Martha a lot more confident this episode, like she’s coming into her own at the moment she is explaining to the Professor that the Tardis travels through time. This appears to be a bad move.

Good old sonic screwdriver gets them through a door. But the mad max people have got in.
Doctors chopped off hand has reached boiling point.
The mad max people are close. Doctor is trying to get though the last door.
Octo-ant woman plans to save the day,

the master is the dr's mortal enemy. renegade time lord who was forever nacking things up and trying to take over/destroy a world. thought to have been killed in the TVM after being sucked into the eye of harmony either escaped or it's been retconned so he didn;t really get sucked in. used the watch thing to aoid the time war like a coward. and thats about it really...used to have a beard...dressed similar to the ood...annoying during his later years...
