Actually, although I will miss the individual episodes, I like this idea. Perhaps with these three "specials" with their longer running times, the special fx will be even better, the "specials" themselves will be a bit crisper and we might even get a bit more of the oft called for "character development". This might be a plus. I think there will be less of a chance of these shows being clunkers.

It might alright for you to start off with Eccelstones series, which started in 2005, then work through the Tennant's series. Then just work your way through the classic series, watching as little Colin Baker as possible...

You guys have that TV license thingy, right? The BBC makes money just from people owning TVs. Why the hell are their DVD box sets so damn expensive? The BBC will produce a show with 6-13 episodes, and charge more than any American company does for 20 episode shows.

Amazon's pre-order of Who series 3 is $69.99 (sold down from the listed $99.99). That's 14 episodes with the Christmas special.
Heroes is listed at $59.99 (sold down to $39.99). That's 23 episodes.
Doctor Who's special savings price is still more expensive than Heroes' full list price.

I think you got the Heroes numbers wrong...

But the BBC don't get a lot of money from the TV license, it's about £100+ each person, adverts would bring in more money.

What does "chav" mean?

She may appear in the series, but she's not listed as one of the main stars. My guess is that she'd just be a recurring guest star or something. Not having her in it at all would be ideal, but the less of her the better if she's got to be in.

The Web of Fear - found?

News Dated: 6/9/2007

DWO have received reports that the lost Doctor Who adventure; The Web of Fear, has been found.

Obviously it is very early days, and we don't usually report these kind of rumours, but the DWO team genuinly feel there may be some truth to this report.

If indeed it is true, fans will at last have a complete Yeti story to add to their Doctor Who DVD collections in the months to come.

DWO will keep you posted as this story unfolds further.

HE may have only just turned 18, but Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe is the bookies’ favourite to be the new Doctor Who.

Ladbrokes are offering odds of 3/1 that Radcliffe will take over as the Time Lord if David Tennant steps down after the next series, which is produced by BBC Wales.

If Radcliffe lands the role, he will be the youngest ever Doctor Who. Peter Davison currently holds that accolade – he was just 31 when he took over in 1982.

Tennant, 36, is currently filming the fourth series of Doctor Who to be made since Swansea writer Russell T Davies resurrected the programme in 2004. The new episodes will be aired in spring 2008.

The programme will take a break in 2009 as Tennant is to play Hamlet with the Royal Shakespeare Company, but there are doubts as to whether he will return to the role.

There is now strong speculation as to who will take over in 2010 and among the other favourites are Jekyll actor James Nesbitt, who has odds of 5/1, Band Of Brothers star Damian Lewis at 6/1 and Welsh actor Rhys Ifans at 8/1.

Bets are also being placed on a female becoming the new doctor and Welsh actress Ruth Jones, who co-wrote the BBC hit comedy Gavin and Stacey, is at 25/1.

A spokesman for Ladbrokes said, “Television betting continues to go from strength and we anticipate that the search for Doctor Who will really capture punters’ imaginations.

“Daniel Radcliffe’s got the Doctor Who look and we think he’s the man to beat.”

But TV critic and Doctor Who fan Elaine Penn believes that Ifans would make a far more suitable Doctor Who.

“Rhys Ifans would be great as he is quite quirky,” said Penn, who is features editor of TV Choice.

“He showed a serious side to him when he played Peter Cook in a TV drama but we’ve also seen his fun side in Notting Hill.

“I think they should definitely look in Wales for the next Doctor Who.”

Penn says she won’t be putting any money on Radcliffe, even though he’s bookies’ favourite.

“I think Daniel Radcliffe is too young. He’s a good actor and will have teen appeal but you have to be a certain age to pull off that role.”

Penn admits she’s a huge fan of Tennant and says it is difficult to imagine anyone else stepping into his shoes now.

“You do get used to someone playing Doctor Who and when David came along people did wonder how he would be able to take over from Christopher Eccleston but look at him now.”

Swansea actress Helen Griffin, who appeared in two episodes of Doctor Who last year alongside Tennant, is also flying the flag for Ifans.

“Rhys Ifans is always fantastic – he’s a brilliant actor,” said Griffin, who was in the episodes which saw the return of the Cybermen. “He would bring some anarchy to Doctor Who. He also has good solid socialist principles and that would be good to play the Doctor.”

But she would also like to see renowned stage actor Simon Russell Beale step into the Time Lord’s shoes.

“He has done masses of work with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre but he has yet to break into television and film,” she said.

“He is just a revelation to watch on stage. I think he’s the best actor in Britain.”

Director Ashley Way, who has directed episodes of Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood, is also backing Ifans.

“I think he has the right attitude – and he’s Welsh,” said Way.

In series one i think it was the doctors character to inspire characters to do things themselves. The triumph of humanity that culminated in Rose as the Bad Wolf. In series 2 it was the Rose/Doctor equal tag team. In series 3 the doctor took a big role in solving the mysteries because martha couldn't. He saved the day in smith and jones, gridlock, the dalek two parter, lazarus, human nature/family of blood, the finale. Remember it was the doctor's instructions to martha that saved the day at the end

While the doctor is on Hiatus, should they re-air episodes from the past couple of years in the same timeslot or "best of's" from the earlier doctors?

they never really stopped showing Doctor Who. They had reruns in the UK on the cable channels.

they had classic who on in august all weekend on UKGold. They showed the pilot, caves of androzani, attack of the cybermen, the TV movie, some new who after 7.00 at night and more that i can't remember. Survival might have been on actually.

I was listening to paul mcgann's shada on bbc7 tonight. It should be on listen again now- click the audio symbol next to the episode http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7/listenagain/monday/
it two parts on every night.

Well i don't think any of the Dr.'s side kicks have been particularly great. I've heard that there's hatred with a passion for Billie Piper (i think that's her name), from series 1 and 2 (?) haven't seen those myself, but i think they pick side-kicks who cannot out shine the Dr.

Both Billie and Freema have a large amount of haters and fans. The Hype! mostly has the Billie fans and Freema haters. Especially LV.

You'll find an amazing divide on past characters we all want to come back as companions, too. Personally, I wanted Sally Sparrow for series 4. I can dream, I suppose.

The Question

Has anyone noticed that they've been going a tad spin off crazy with Doctor Who lately? First we had Torchwood, then we're getting a show about Sarah Jane Smith, and now they're making a kid's show about K-9.

Lord Valumart
09-16-2007, 09:33 AM
K-9 isn't really a spin off...

it's not even done by the bbc. it was in negotiation before the new series was i think...

and yes...i dislike freema...but mostly because of her character and lack of acting ability

True. I think somewhere in the series 1 commentary, someone mentioned that Rose mostly saw the Doctor as a father figure in the beginning. We weren't really given any hints toward romantic feelings until "The Empty Child."

I think they want to have the sexual tension that made X-Files a little more interesting for a while... but it just doesn't work when you know the Dr is an alien who really doesn't see humanity as equal to his race.

Exactly, we can't live up to his idea of "womanhood" whatever that may be... so we have no real hope of a relationship with him. Therefore, the writers should just drop the whole attempt at sexual tension and make his next "companion" a confidant and a helper instead of constantly moping for the inaccessible doctor.

I think the tension works good in some ways...the Doctor is lonely. Martha (and whoever else may come along) take that as needing love...someone to be with...the companions think of him in human terms...they can't comprehend his pain though...the last of a once proud race. The last in the universe (for the most part).

As humans, they can't understand that...they fit him into a box that they think they can understand.

Meh. They SHOULD be. The Time Lords, when we actually saw them, however are the very definition of "Meh"-tastic. The most accurate definition of what we SAW on screen (not what they should have been, the Time Lords from the War Games or Genesis of the Daleks) is from School Reunion. "Dusty, old senators." They were so boring!:p
