^^^^Basically, I have a friend(lesbian) who doesn't like sci-fi at all...she came over to visit and I was watching Torchwood....she saw Jack and watched the rest of the episode....so I explained who he was and all that...now she wants to watch all the Doctor Who eps with Jack
But why, Torchwood isn't terrible, but it's very rarely good. :o

Oh and and about the final arc of series 3 the first two eps were good, but the Archangel Doctor thing was god awful.:o

she doesn't watch sci-fi at all and she thought Jack was cute....along with thinking Tosh was cute as well...so its not like she would know good from bad when it came to sci-fi

Clearly, and Jack used too be "cute" but he has aged terribly since DW series 1:o

I'm rarely bothered by British actors trying to pull off American accents, but I rolled my eyes throughout the entire episode.
The American Accents where terrible in those episodes. Hugh Quarshie from Casulty/Holby City/Highlander/Star Wars accent was really bad. He was in Clive Bakers nightbreed where he did a fine american accent but apperantly since the 17 years that movie was made his lost the ability to do the accent.
Also his the only black guy I have ever seen called Hugh.
this with most of the companions is you either love them, or hate them...but with jack guys wanna go to the pub with him and women want to shag him:huh:
Everyone likes Jack his easily likeable. The rest of them not so much.

No offence to you guys north of the border but of all 3 nations of Britain (England, Scotland, Wales) your women are the least attractive.

Wales has a large sheep population like New Zealand so they are called sheep shaggers. I don't know about wales but in new zealand there are like 4 sheep for every person.

I'm hoping in the near future that they stop relying on past villians to become big threats that last multiple episodes and create some fantastic new ones. I'm frankly getting sick of the Daleks. Cybermen were quite interesting because of the ethical dilemma they posed, but they've had their run.

I think that was done for the benefit of the fans of the original series, I'm sure when it was announced in 04 or 05 that Doctor Who would be back, the writers got deluged with mail begging for this character and that character...I remember the reruns on PBS when I was younger.

I hope they realize soon that the reuse of these villians is getting tiresome. The "Daleks in Manhattan" saga could've been shortened to just one episode. There are so many urban legends and myths within our culture that the writers could easily assimilate into the Doctor Who universe. I feel that they're not taking their chance to expand the scope of the series by relegating the use of the same villlians over and over. Steven Moffat did wonderfully with the Weeping Angels, hopefully he can bring a recurring villian with a similar presence.

The Doctor did say that the Time Lords lost the war. The Master once commented that he was there when the Daleks made a major victory over Gallifrey (a victory so large, it made the Master run away and turn human). I'd say the Time Lords were already hopelessly losing the war before the Doctor wiped out both sides to end it all. Why else would he be desperate enough to commit double-genocide?

I agree. When you think about the daleks they have no conscience and would do anything to win while the time lords debate it in a council and would never go to those lengths. Hence the time lords losing and the doctor deciding that a universe without the time lords is better than a universe under the dominion of daleks

I'm glad to have the show back and it is good on the odd occasion, but sometimes scenes and episodes are so bad it's almost painful to watch and it tends to be involved with RTD, so the shows needs 2 executive producers to reign in RTD before he completely destroys the franchise's reputation, which to some extent he has, because he has changed it from a legitimate sci fi show into a questionable kids show.

I'd agree....I have only seen 3 or 4 of the episodes from the original series, but it was hardly high drama. It has been around forever over there. It has the reputation that Star Trek has over here....its gone beyond a tv show, its a damn institution and its fans have placed it on a pedestal.

The first film was a family film but on first airing kids tended to shy away from the stories, with them being overly complex and to some pretty scary (according to Wikipedia).

That may be the case for some but the pedestal thing isn't true for me I only started watching the show in 2004 (I wasn't allowed to watch it when I was a kid, my mum has some irrational Dalek phobia) after being told by one of my friends that it was "frickin awesome" and started watching the odd episode here and there.

I don't believe that. If I perceive something as mediocre, I'm gonna call it mediocre. I have to agree that the tone hasn't changed much from the older Doctor Who serials, based on the few episodes I've seen. The new series just seems sillier and far too concerned with romantic subplots. It's like a kids' show trying to pretend it's more than a kids' show at times. I could've done without the tearful goodbye to Rose or the sexual tension with Martha. Hopefully we'll be spared that with Donna.

Trailer for Doctor Who Series 4
I'm actually interested in what Donna has to bring to the plate companionship-wise. She's certainly not a regurgitation of the previous companions and the writer of one the upcoming episodes says that Donna's not just going to sit there and gape at what the Doctor does. She more or less questions what he does, especially when they're in Pompeii. Other than those aspects, I'm not exactly thrilled about Catherine Tate's Donna as the new companion.

Donna was quite loud and annoying when we first met her, but she's changed since that encounter with the Doctor. As long as Catherine Tate doesn't carry her demeanor from her comedienne personality, I think I'll be alright with the 4th series. Tennant appeared on her comedy show once

I don't know what any of that means, but it doesn't sound polite. I am not insulting anyone, just expressing what I thought of the show.

1. I actually discovered the meaning of "rentboy" from reading the "Preacher" comics.
Funny I discovered it on the news in a strange report obout a Conservative politician. :o
2. Then you keep watching and being angry all the time...It's what I do. :o
3. Sounds like someone needs a hug.You touch me and I will cut you, so you wear a constant smile. :cmad:

Yeah, I liked her on Torchwood. But if she stuck around, we wouldn't have been able to get Owen the fun-loving zombie.
Zombie Owen is ok for now although they should of let him die.
Gwen needs to go, if she wasn't there I would be much happier with Torchwood....she has a whiny voice, she isn't attractive at all, and she is in constant denial about her feelings for Jack
Gwen definetley needs to go. In terms of characters I like least in the new Doctor Who/Torchwood it goes
1.Rose
2.Gwen
3.Rhys
4.Donna
5.Owen
Gwens like the unattractive welsh version of Lena Headley

East European girls are often hot. As they make up the majority of "ladies of the night" in the U.K. up. The sad thing is they are often earning not because they are forced into it as some would have you believe, but they are keeping their families in food with the wages they earn in the "pound".

Has anyone seen Sex Traffic with John Simm. Thats a damn depressing tv movie http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex_Traffic
Most of these women from eastern europe are told they can get a better life in the west by organised criminals and are then sold into sexual slavery where they are beaten and raped, have their passports taken away so they can't leave, told their families will be killed.
The criminals get them addicted to drugs so they won't leave because they are addicted and the gangs feed their habits. Its terrible stuff :csad:
It happens a lot more than people think too.

To a point. you never answered me before, Bromley or Bexley?
Anyway, I have a friend who is an East European girl, and yes she came across as part of the sex trade and no that's not how I met her. She was never beaten and bullied and earn a lot of money to send back. Don't laugh she works part time in the city whilst studying now. She speaks Russian, Croatian, Italian and English.

Good for her I guess. If a girl is happy to do that of her own choice then I don't have problem. Although I wouldn't exactly be advising any girls to do it.

New 'Doctor Who' timeslot causes controversy
Thursday, March 27 2008, 16:04 GMT

http://images.digitalspy.co.uk/08/13/160x120_dw_s04_generic_3.jpg
The BBC's decision to broadcast the first episode of Doctor Who's new series in an earlier timeslot than usual has sparked a wave of complaints from fans.
The science fiction show's fourth season will commence at 6.20pm on Saturday, April 5 as opposed to the usual 7pm screening. The audition-based reality show I'd Do Anything has instead been preferred for the later primetime slot, when more families are likely to be watching.
Doctor Who fans have widely condemned the move on the Digital Spy forums, as viewing figures have fallen whenever the show has been broadcast before 7pm over the past three seasons.
Forum member 'prking' from Weston-Super-Mare said: "6.20pm is too early. When its been on at an earlier time in the past few years the ratings have dropped. I'll have to record it as we don't get home home on a Saturday until 6.45-ish". 'Djonshore' from Wales added: "I guess before long it'll be at the 5.30pm timeslot like the old days."
However, 'torchwood08' said: "Great news but isn't 6.20 really early?? Anyway who cares - He's Back."
Last year, the programme's executive producer Russell T Davies told Doctor Who Magazine: "I don't like it being on before seven o'clock. It just feels "lesser" at that time of day."
I think I'll have to record it. :o

And the guy who developed it for Weta, Stephen Regelous, flew half way round the world to work on the show.

Baker is only so popular cause of the fact he was the Doctor for 7 years, therefore people automatically associate the show with him.
Personally, I hate him.
