so people complain that they don't use the Daleks or Cybermen, then people complain when they do....where is the happy medium?

I pay about $150 per month right now on a household consisting of me and my roommate, each of us with DVR boxes, an HD tier of channels, basic digital cable, and high-speed internet.

I'm canceling the cable and keeping the internet when I move tomorrow, though. Pretty much everything you could ever want to watch on TV is now online anyway, so I figure why bother with the extra expense?

Lord Valumart

I hope they lose the rights to use the Cybermen after this damn Christmas episode. What an inept bunch of useless robots.

as far as i know the bbc own the cybermen so aslong as they can keep the cybus suits from falling to bits we're all set:up::huh:

Using them less often, like once every other season, and keeping them out of s*** stories like "Daleks in Manhattan." People would complain less if they reintroduced more classic aliens, too. People were super-excited for the Sontarans when they were announced. Why go back to the Daleks or the Cybermen when there are still Silurians, Sea Devils, Ice Warriors, and more just begging to be touched up with modern special effects?

But wasn't RTD constantly whining about how he does Earth-based episodes because he couldn't get the money to build alien sets?

Although, for the Time War, it's moot anyway. RTD also said he didn't want to set it in stone and preferred everyone to make that part up for themselves. Kind of dumb, but whatever.

Well, we know the Doctor ended it by using a Delta Wave that destroyed Gallifrey and killed everyone on it. I can only assume the Daleks had already taken over Gallifrey at the time, since the Doctor told Martha that his side lost, the Master said he ran after the Daleks took over some sort of cruiform, and the Doctor assumed all of the Daleks were dead when he destroyed Gallifrey.

No, seriously. In the right lighting, from the right angle, when making the right facial expression, Gwen looks pretty good. None of those things happened to her in the recent Who finale, though.

ASH is worthy of a come back...even if he did explode they could just ignore it like they did allthe time in the classic series with davros and the master...and more recently with the daleks always being "wiped out of existance"

I wonder what happened between Rose and Mickey during the year in Pete's World. I mean, it's pretty obvious they didn't get back together, and Mickey stayed back in his home universe because there was nothing for him (not even Rose) back on Pete's world.

But it's like they weren't really friends anymore. I just watched Journey's End again, and I noticed that Rose and Mickey never spoke to one another. Not once. Each of them spoke to practically every other companion (Rose introduced herself to Martha, scolded her mum for showing up, said it was nice to see Sarah Jane again, talked to both Jack & Donna during the Doctor's non-regeneration -- Mickey said he had to look out for the other Smith, said he was going to miss Jackie most of all, hugged Jack), but they didn't say a single word to one another in the episode.

Maybe he broke things off permanently with Rose after he got tired of her using him for sex while she talked about the Doctor constantly.

To be specific, here's the Who/Torchwood/Sarah Jane order...

1. Doctor Who Series One*
2. Doctor Who Series Two
3. Torchwood Series One
4. Doctor Who Series Three
5. Sarah Jane Adventures Series One
6. Torchwood Series Two
7. Doctor Who Series Four (which just finished airing last month)

*By "Series One" I mean the 2005 episodes from the new Doctor Who show.
You don't need to watch the old Doctor Who from the 1960s-80s, but it certainly doesn't hurt.

If you're watching them for the first time, you actually DO need to see most of them in order.

Ianto's horrible episode in Torchwood Series 1 only makes sense if you've seen the Doctor Who Series 2 finale, not to mention you'll need to watch Doctor Who Series 1 just to know who Jack is.

The episodes with Martha in Torchwood Series 2 only make sense if you've seen the finale of Doctor Who Series 3. Otherwise, you'll have no idea who she is, or why she knows both Jack and the Doctor.

You can watch the Sarah Jane Adventures at just about any point, though.

Torchwood Series 3 is only going to be 5 episodes. I think she can handle more than one TV show.

Honestly, I don't know how you Brits put up with TV shows that last for less than 20 episodes.

TheCorpulent1

13's not bad for me. I think a lot of American shows would actually benefit from having fewer episodes or a number of episodes determined by the story rather than stretching things out to fit a stock 20- or 22-episode season. The latter leads to a lot of terrible filler episodes a lot of the time. Smallville, for example--even when it was watchable, there were plenty of episodes that clearly existed solely to fill slots on the schedule.

Well having shorter series benefits us in the fact that we don't get any mid series cancellations like you guys do, plus British shows tend to get more series than American ones, so it all works out okay in the end.:o

There are plenty more, especially the soaps (Coronation Street has been running since the 60's, Eastenders since the 80's etc).
Drama's/thrillers/sci-fi though don't generally tend to last too long. Doctor Who is definitely an exception, and even he got stuck in tv limbo for over a decade.

Put me down in the "Jamie rules" brigade, too. I loved him with the second Doctor. God, a reunion between the tenth and Jamie would be awesome. Less awkward than the reunion with Sarah Jane too, since the Doctor really didn't have any control over leaving Jamie and Zoe or any means of contacting them since they're both from time periods other than the '70s or '80s or whenever he was dropped off and began working with UNIT in his third incarnation.

the problem with bringing jamie back is that the time lords wiped his memory when they sent him away...

The TARDIS can apparently be repaired instantaneously from the inside. After seeing the Titanic crash into it, and the DonnaDoctor fixing it during "Journey's End," I doubt he'd need Jack's help for very long.
Who said the doctor didn't take him back a few months late? His TARDIS flying isn't that great sometimes.
Okay, that might be it. After all, there was the whole "12 hours/12 months" thing he did to Rose in series 1.

i always wondered what happend to them.....

seeing as it was a setup by the master, when time reversed, the setup would have reversed too...wouldnt it, and they would have just come home. they could have at least mentioned it or something.

BlackLantern

well no...The Master did that prior to the President being killed and the paradox machine being activated....when time reversed it only went back to the point where the machine was turned on....the master told the Doctor about sending Torchwood off the day previous......I would assume they were sent off on some wild goose chase so it wouldn't be worth mentioning unless Jack bought it up...

Jacks not into martha. When she kissed him he had his eyes open and was shocked

That whole Olympics thing in ''Fear Her" was just god awfully cheesy. Especially him picking up the torch and carrying it.

That was the only good thing about the episode...

JustABill
08-14-2008, 05:31 PM
Catherine was on a radio talk show and she was asked why there was a slight hint of rememberance in her face when she said goodbye to The Doctor. She says it's because there was scene right after that they filmed where she hears the uproar of the motor of the Tardis, turns around and looks out the window as if she's possibly remembering. She says they cut it out because they were unsure if people would get she was remembering and does it mean now that she might have remembered that she's going to die.

TheCorpulent1
08-14-2008, 05:34 PM

There's always hope for her to return. I kind of like the tragedy of her character, though. The one companion of the new series so far who genuinely just loved the wonder of seeing the universe and time spread out before her (as opposed to a stupid crush on the Doctor), and she's the one who has it all taken away. I hope Donna returns at some point, but for now that tragic twist is a pretty good place to leave things.

I'm of the theory that RTD changed the ending after he'd written the entire episode. It's almost like Donna was supposed to die on the TARDIS instead of the Doctor taking her memory away. Donna kept saying throughout the series that she'd travel with the Doctor for the rest of her life, Caan said one of the companions would die, and Donna came very close to death until the Doctor wiped away her memory.

That said, the scene they cut out of Donna hearing the TARDIS and seeing it disappear... that would've led to her death. The Doctor told Wilf and Sylvia that they can't let her remember anything about him, implying that her memories were only locked away, not destroyed. He said that if she started to remember, THEN she'd die. It would've sucked major big ones if the Doctor's departure jogged Donna's memory, leading to her death as soon as he leaves.

TheCorpulent1
08-15-2008, 08:58 AM
It would also be pretty bleak for Doctor Who, which is almost always upbeat and happy in the end. Even what we were left with regarding Donna is unusually depressing, to be honest.

I watched a recording from the Doctor Who panel at SDCC a few days ago and Steven Moffatt said he loved the ending to series 2 where the Doctor dumped his needy girlfriend in another dimension, it was a hell of a way to get rid of an ex.

any emotionak impact was swiftly lost and then kicked out the window with the series taking a 10 minute detour up it's own arse then the whole donna remembering=death thing...so...i disagreee, the emotional impact was donna's story, it was donna's series, everything else was thrown in there cause rtd thought "screw it...everyone likes jack..." and wrote from there...

As I've said before, I didn't mind Rose that much during season 1 and 2. At the time, a companion who was hugely crushing on the Doctor was something new and somewhat interesting.

That being said, Rose's place in the Doctor Who mythos was much more tolerable when she was left in the alternate dimension with no more Doctor and only Mickey as a consolation prize. She was made a bit more of a poignant character because she didn't get what she wanted - and rightly so because this is the Doctor we're talking about here.

But noooo.... RTD just had to bring Rose back and turn her into the ultimate fangirl Mary Sue (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Sue) wish-fulfillment character with a ridiculously contrived ending to give her what she wanted. Bleh.

BBC America just reran The Runaway Bride tonight (cut down to an hour, because they don't want to screw up Primeval's new time-slot), and GOL-LY was Donna an idiot back then. Now I remember why I was so hesitant to see her as a fulltime companion. I remembered the constant yelling and slapping, but I forgot just how slow she was in that episode.

Like when the Doctor took her back in time to watch the Racnoss ship form the center of the Earth, she came back to the present, got kidnapped and strapped above the giant hole in the ground, and was still stupid enough to ask the Empress "why? What's down there?"

Well, that's what's planned for the UK. In the US, we typically don't see the Christmas specials until right before they air the premier for the following series. The Sci-Fi Channel effectively makes the Christmas specials our "series premiers."

You guys/lot are getting the 4 episodes on holidays, right? God only knows how the Sci-Fi Channel will handle only 5 wide-spread episodes of Doctor Who next year. They don't air new episodes of ANYTHING during holidays.
