I think one of her first TV jobs was on a commercial for a UK teen magazine called Smash Hits, where she blew bubble gum and said "POP".
Then I think she became the youngest female solo artist to
a) get a # 1 single in the charts
b) debut at #1
c) get a 2nd #1 in a row
Then she married an extremely rich and ginger nerd and they went off to sell trees and she became a wreck, stopped washing and became an alcoholic. After she divorced him she got the Who job and turned it all around.
Ahhh, I found one....... and she has BLACK hair!
I had no idea she was a singer

Tate keen on 'Doctor Who' return

Catherine Tate is keen to reprise her role as departed companion Donna Noble in a future series of Doctor Who.
The actress, who left the show at the end of the recent fourth season finale, told Doctor Who Magazine: "I knew that there would definitely be an end to Donna, at the end of the series.
"But had that not been the case, had it been open-ended, had there been potential for Donna to stay on for another series, I must confess that I'd have said 'yes' like a shot."
Despite Donna's mind being wiped in 'Journey's End', Tate added: "Could Donna come back? Well, in science fiction, anything is possible."

Aw, f***in' RTD. Why'd he have to go and give Donna's character a set end at the end of the fourth series? I hope they bring her back. Maybe there's still time to work out a deal for the fifth series.

Yeah. I was fine with Donna leaving had it been Catherine just wanted to do one series. But she's written out because RTD wanted her written out? That's it. I officially am starting to hate Rose, cause he loves her so damn much. Is s he the only one who gets to be in two series as a full timer RTD, is that it? :cmad:

the return of jack and martha and even sjs would have been fine...just the return of rose was so pointlessly stupid it killed the most of the build up for the doctordonna. i've said before that this was donna's series and that rose had no business showing up and taking away the series from the only real companion we've gotten on new who

Rose had such a good final episode in series 2 and I didn't mind her showing up last season. I thought it was kind of cool during the first episode and just seeing her on the screens and stuff. The whole clone thing was total **** though. Rose still didn't get the Doctor she knew and loved so to me, it cheapened their relationship. Even though I really didn't like Donna, you do warm up to her a bit and she really didn't have a big kick ass moment like Martha and Rose had. Plus she truly wanted to see the universe. She wasn't in love with the Doctor so for her to forget everything about her adventures was just ****ty.

Yet her reaction to the Hath drowning was hilarous...
I mean, she walked around a nearly destroyed Earth for a year, dealing with constant death and stuff, yet when one little alien thingy dies, she goes into melt down...
AND! Half the series later, she's willing to blow up the Earth without giving a crap? What's up with that?!

She clearly gave a crap when she was contemplating using the Osterhagen (or however the hell that's spelled) Key. But by that time she was a UNIT soldier and there seemed to be no other tactically sound alternative.
As for the Hath, putting a key into a slot and having everything go white is much different from actually witnessing a living, sentient being drown right in front of you with no way to help. She was probably as freaked out from the helplessness as she was from the Hath's death.

Yes, I get that bit, but she'd know that she'd be killing every single person on Earth, and she should be showing a bit more emotion.
And, how come she reacts differently to the Hath dying, to Tom Milligan sacrificing himself for her as well, it's the same principle.

Martha's crying scene in "The Doctor's Daughter" was out of character for her. Martha has seen a lot of people die, and she's freaked out a little before, but she doesn't break down and lose her composure. None of the Doctor's companions do. That's usually why they stick around.
Martha stood there and personally witnessed the deaths of:
The Master of Revels
The Globe Theatre's architect
Pig Slaves
Several humans killed by Daleks back in 1930
Richard Lazarus (granted, after he tried to kill her)
The Face of Boe
Townspeople in the year 1913 (not sure about this one)
Countless people from around the world while the Master was in power
But she didn't cry until a Hath died. It was a poorly written scene, and she shouldn't have cried. Shouted? Yes. Looked sad? Obviously. Cried? Hell no.
TheCorpulent1
08-27-2008, 09:03 AM
How do we know she didn't cry before? How do we know any of those instances were comparable to the Hath essentially killing himself to save her? Not in the purely abstract sense of people dying while she rallied support for the Doctor during the Master's reign--literally, the Hath threw himself into a situation he knew would result in his own death to save Martha's life. The circumstances are pretty extraordinary, so I don't mind Martha crying. Freema overplayed it a bit, but visibly displaying her grief in that situation was fine for me.

As did Tom Milligan in LOTTL, yet, no tears were shed.
He's the head guy... he would have had to clear the story line.
He's also admitted to changing alot of scripts sent to him, he's even done a complete 100% re-write a couple of times in the past. However, he's never changed any of Moffat's episodes ever....
The odd thing about that was that she hardly knew him...

They should take some pointers from Star Trek's makeup department.
Manic
08-27-2008, 08:17 PM
Well, yes and no. Star Trek is famous for its bumpy-headed aliens who basically look like humans with one or two slight differences, but that's not something that needs to be done with every alien race every week. It's hard to believe Klingons, Vulcans, and Bajorans all look just like Earthlings, save for jagged foreheads, pointy ears, and jagged noses. It's so implausible that writers eventually had to invent a wacky progenitor-species that hopped around from planet to planet spreading its humanoid DNA to every gene pool.
As it is, I have a hard enough time watching Doctor Who and trying to figure out why there are actual humans across the universe with no relation to Earth.
TheCorpulent1
08-27-2008, 08:27 PM
Because it's cheaper!
And I mostly meant in terms of individual looks. Yeah, the Star Trek aliens all look like slightly modified humans, but you can at least tell who's who among the more well-known ones, even under heavy makeup. Worf doesn't look like every other Klingon, Quark and Rom look very different, etc.
Manic
08-27-2008, 08:33 PM
True. Actually, I wouldn't mind if Doctor Who had more heavily made up aliens like (give me a sec to look up Quark's money-hungry race) ...
Ferengi! God, it's been so long since I've talked about Star Trek.
Anyway, yeah. They need to make aliens like that. None of this "fish head wearing a bong" crap.
The Squirrel

I like star trek aliens. Why is it so crazy to think that alien life could look like humans? Why do they all have to be little green men?
Manic
08-27-2008, 08:58 PM
Aliens who look like humans is fine when done in moderation, but...
Betazoid = Humans
El-Aurian/Listener = Humans
Klingon = Humans with ridged foreheads
Bajoran = Humans with ridged noses
Vulcan/Romulan = Humans with pointy ears and bowl haircuts
Trill = Humans with freckles
Then you've got the random "planet of the week" where the explorers of the Enterprise or lost morons of the Voyager run into an alien race that either looks completely human, or has receding hairlines or monochromatic eyes.
They did good work with the Ferengi, Cardassians, Jem'Hadar (unnecessary apostrophe aside), and whatever the hell Neelix from Voyager was, but we got a ton of "humans with slight deformities" out of that franchise.
TheCorpulent1
08-27-2008, 09:07 PM
Neelix was a Talaxian. And, to be fair, a lot of the human-looking aliens were introduced in the original series, back when making a white dude bronze and giving him pointy eyebrows was considered the pinnacle of stage makeup.

I've only read about it on Wikipedia, so I may get some facts wrong, but basically:
There was a civil war on Earth in the late-20th century between normal humans and genetically augmented humans, called Augments. Augments split the world up into tribal states before finally being killed off in around 1996. (Some escaped, like Khan.) After this, genetic engineering was outlawed on Earth but the Klingons decided they wanted the humans' technology to genetically augment themselves. I'm a bit hazy on the details, but basically the Klingons accidentally create a genetic virus that sweeps across the Klingon Empire, augmenting Klingons to be stronger but twisting them to be more malevolent and look more human. In Enterprise, the Klingons manage to reverse the virus and stop it from spreading further, but the effects of the virus remain until it's bred out over generations (i.e. after the original series) and the Klingons return to their original appearance.
And, really, this is getting way too much into Star Trek in a Doctor Who thread, so any future Star Trek posts should go here: http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?t=259866&page=115

A trio of guest stars for the third season of Torchwood have been announced by the BBC.
Peter Capaldi, Liz May Brice and Paul Copley will all have prominent roles in Torchwood: Children Of Earth, which will be shown over five consecutive nights on BBC One next spring.
Capaldi, best known for The Thick Of It, will play civil servant Mr. Frobisher - a man trying to conceal a terrible secret. The renowned actor recently guest starred in the Doctor Who story 'The Fires Of Pompeii' as Caecilius.
Brice, who played convicted murderer Pat Kerrigan in ITV's Bad Girls, will take on the role of Johnson - a cynical undercover government agent with a mission to expose Torchwood. Copley, best known for recurring roles in The Lakes, This Life and Coronation Street, will play the traumatised figure of Clem.
BBC Wales Head of Drama Julie Gardner hailed their involvement and stated: "Joining our main cast are some fantastic guest artists who will only add to making this unmissable TV."
Series regulars John Barrowman, Eve Myles, Gareth David-Lloyd, Kai Owen and Tom Price will all be returning.

Hm, yes, because I trust all the news I get from a LiveJournal blogger.
The BBC has taken money from US supporters before. That's how the second series of Torchwood was produced. But to go through all the trouble of moving production of an entire British show to the US? A show that hasn't elevated beyond cult status in the US? Because of the Sci-Fi Channel?
My ass! The Sci-Fi Channel doesn't even film its own shows in the US. They're all filmed in Canada with 90% Canadian casts.
Furthermore, when you read through that blog's multiple sources, most lead back to here: http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/news/article17008.ece
That article clearly states that 2 of the specials will be filmed in the US. It's also implied that the 2 US-filmed episodes will be 2 of RTD's final 4 before handing the show over to Moffat.
God, it's like bloggers and online news sites don't even bother reading their own sources. 2 specials in America, folks. 2 specials.

I've gotta admit replacing Owen and Tosh with Mickey and Martha would have been a good swap and would've made Torchwood feel even more like a Doctor Who spin off with characters from the parent series turning up in it. I felt sure it was going to happen after Journey's End, perhaps it was planned but never came off because of Freema's ITV contract.

Probably just more paper talk, I've heard so many different things in the newspapers about this story over the last couple of years I cringe whenever a new story comes out. I'd expect the BBC to make an official announcement when Tennant's future is certain (like they did last year about the hiatus and 2009 specials). Until then I'm treating everything as rumour and speculation.

Talking of rumour and speculation, what do you guys think will happen in the 2009 specials?
Judging from the end of season four I doubt we'll see many of the companions from Nu Who returning (certainly not Rose and Donna anyway and with Martha film ITV series I wouldn't expect her to return soon either). So will there be new companions? Or will the Doctor travel alone for a while and just meet people for one off adventures? Will we see any monsters (other than the Cybermen which we already know are coming) in the specials?

I'm pretty sure that for every series that Tennant has been in, we've had a "HE'S LEAVING!!!!!!!" article in a newspaper...

Rose should never come back, Donna needs to come back, but it isn't likely...And I'd imagine that we'll just get 4 stand alone companions for them.
And there's rumours flying about that we'll get a special starring The Master and The Silurian's, which should be great.:woot:

I agree Rose needs to never come back again. To be honest although it was kinda nice to have them reunited I prefered the heartbreaking ending at the end of season two to the weird "look after my other self" ending we got this season. I guess I'm just a mean hearted man.
I liked Donna, but I don't think they should bring her back. Her ending is tragic in the same way Roses was at the end of season two and as we've seen with Rose, going back didn't really add or improve anything (at least not IMHO). The only companions who could really come back soon are Martha and Captain Jack.

True Mickey kind of evolved into his own man half way through season two so I could see them bringing him back. Also he's moved on from Rose (finally) so there seems to be potential for a new love interest there.

Actually, upon watching Journey's End again, the Daleks were about the same height as Billie Piper. You can tell during the scene where the DoctorDonna neutralized the Daleks' weapons, and everyone started pushing the things around like they were furniture on wheels. Rose and Sarah Jane were about the same height as the Dalek they pushed away, and the one Cap'n Jack kicked was up to his shoulder.
So I'd say Daleks are about 5'5" or so.
