He was certainly the most fun Master I've ever seen. No disrespect meant to Anthony Ainley or Roger Delgado, but toning down the "arch-ness" of the Master helped Simm's portrayal of the character a lot.

Rose will return...not soon...but eventually
It's a pretty good deal for Tennant, since he can quit playing the Doctor when he feels like it, but later if he wants to return, there can always be a "clone-Doctor & Rose" spin-off series.
And yes, that would be EXTREMELY lame. :cmad:

Meet Sarah Jane's new sidekick
http://images.digitalspy.co.uk/08/36/160x120_sja_rani.jpg
Doctor Who may be off air until Christmas, but The Sarah Jane Adventures will be back in short order to help tide us over. The second series, airing on BBC One from later this month, promises to offer more action, more monsters and at least one familiar face from Doctor Who history. Sarah Jane's team is also changing, as Maria Jackson departs and feisty new girl Rani Chandra arrives. Tube Talk grabbed a quick chat with young actress Anjli Mohindra to find out more about the new arrival.
How have you found working on Sarah Jane?
"It's been really great. Sometimes when you come into a show, everybody has already formed a little tight group and you feel a bit intimidated, but not at all. Everyone's been really welcoming."
When does your character join the group?
"Fairly near the start, after bidding farewell to [Maria]. I have a bit of a nosey into the lives of the world-saving team and plot my way in!"
What's Rani like?
"I'd say she's pretty keen. She shadows Sarah Jane a lot. If there's a moment where she doesn't quite know how to deal with the situation - whether to be quiet, scared or worried - she will always watch Sarah Jane. If Sarah Jane goes in being really bolshy, you'll see Rani up there a few seconds later as well. She's also a girl between two guys at times, which is nice!"
How does Sarah Jane feel about having a new apprentice?
"It does take some getting used to for Sarah Jane, because at first she's not that interested in taking on another child. But she does, and it turns out to be a nice relationship."
Are there any similarities between Rani and Maria?
"I'm not here to play the next Maria Jackson. It's a completely different character, which is lovely. The only similarity that she has is that she's a girl and she lives in the same house. In personality terms, I don't think they're that similar. They're both quite strong-willed, though."
Did you watch the first series?
"Yes. It was a lot younger than my age range - I'm eighteen - but I saw it a few times. Obviously I got more into it after I'd found out I had the audition! I thought it was great because normally children's TV is patronising, but not with this. There's no morals at the end of every story. It's completely the same as Doctor Who. Adults can watch it as well, which is great."
Even more so, with Doctor Who not being on the air as much next year.
"I just finished sixth form and more of my teachers were excited [about my new job] than the pupils! A lot of the teachers don't actually have kids that are young enough to justify them watching it. So I think adults are already interested in it and hopefully that's going to go up this series."
Series two of The Sarah Jane Adventures airs on BBC One and the CBBC Channel from later this month.

I know, but it's not the first name I'd give to someone in a Doctor Who spin-off when all the Time Lords are dead. A lot of fans are expecting one or two more Time Lords to pop up after the Master. You don't name a character Rani for the same reason you don't name a character Val, Roma, Mr. Monk, or Razz.

Personally I hope Rose's story is done now. I liked Rose but her latest three episode appearance really added nothing to the overall story and it would've been better to have kept the Doomsday ending IMHO. I'm sure she'll come back sooner or later but hopefully in like ten years or something when everyone has more or less forgotten about her and her return would be surprising and exciting.
Because of how poorly Rose's return was handled I'm hoping they don't bring Donna back in one of the specials. I liked Donna and felt that the memory wipe ending was tragic stuff and a brilliant and unexpected way to end her character's time with the Doctor. What would going back on that achieve if it's only for one episode? If Catherine was coming back for one or two series fair enough, but I can't see the point in undoing a major plot development for one episode.
John Simm's return as the Master on the other hand would be fine with me, though I'm not sure how they'll go about it.

Zeta-Jones To Star In Dr Who?
12 September 2008 9:03 AM, PDT
http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BMTg4Nzk2NTM0N15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMDM5NTYyMQ@@._ V1._SY90_.jpg Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001876/) has been tipped to star in a movie version of cult sci-fi series Doctor Who (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0436992/) - by the man credited with reviving the show.
Writer Russell T Davies (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0203961/) brought the British programme back to TV screens in 2005 after a nine-year absence.
BBC bosses were recently rumoured to be planning a big screen version of the hit show.
And Davies insists that Zeta-Jones would be perfect for the role as the Timelord's assistant.
He says, "Being from Wales myself, I'd love to have Catherine Zeta-Jones (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001876/) as a companion for the Doctor."
The writer also insists that the series' current lead actor David Tennant (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0855039/) would be the first choice for a Doctor Who (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0436992/) movie.
He adds, "To have anyone else would be inconceivable."
Davies is due to end his tenure on the show in 2009.

Well, they had the Valeyard already and nobody really expects the Doctor to regenerate into him anytime soon. Maybe Morrissey's just playing another possible future version of the Doctor that we can write off and never think of again.
most people try to forget trial of a time lord...it's hard but the medication helps
Yea, especially since he was already there as another character. I could see it if they brought him back as someone else, like they did with Freema, but not as the Doctor himself. No....

-Finale
Series 3:
-Daleks
-Human Nature

Series 4:

*It can be argued that the finale to Series 1 was a 3-parter, since the Doctor's little adventure with Blon Slitheen led almost directly into the Bad Wolf finale. They had just picked up the extrapolator, and the last thing anyone remembers before being sent into Reality TV Hell was dropping off Blon's egg on the planet Raxicalifragilisticexpialidocious (even though the sound of it is something quite atrocious).

INT TARDIS - NIGHT
WIDE SHOT. In flight.
THE DOCTOR, all alone. He's a bit bedraggled, from the rain. Looks up at the Time Rotor.
Lost in thought.
Deep breath. Move on. He starts wandering round. Flicking switches. Recovering himself.
Nice and slow, taking his time. All the time in the world.
Then, eventually, there's a small bleep from the scanner. He wanders over. Only half interested. Studies it.
Then, more curious.
THE DOCTOR: What...?
(looks closer)
What?
(closer)
Whaaaat????!
And he's bending over, facinated, unable to see -
TWO CYBERMEN, rearing up behind him!!!

However, Tennant had not responded well to the suggestion.
"David doesn't like the JK idea, he thinks it sounds like a spoof, so we've paused slightly, wondering whether to win him round or just abandon something that he's not going to be happy with," Davies said.

From Russell's book, he talks about his female companions
"I suppose there's a basic characteristic that I bear in mind. An essence. Rose is open, honest, heartfelt, to the point of being selfish, wonderfully selfish. Martha is clever, calm, but rarely says what she's thinking. Donna is blunt, precise, unfiltered, but with a big heart underneath all the banter. But we come back to what I was saying ages ago about turning characters. If Rose can be selfish, then her finest moments will come when she's selfless. If Martha keeps quiet, then her moments of revelation--like her goodbye to the Doctor in "Last of the Time Lords", or stuck with Milo and Cheen in "Gridlock"-- make her fly. Donna is magnificently self-centred--not selfish, but she pivots everything around herself, as we all do--so when she opens up and hears the Ood song, or begs for Caecilius' family to be saved, then she's wonderful."
Rose was selfish at the end of Journey's End

Wesley should play Blade. At least then, his character might or might not technically be English.

Has anyone else been watching The Sarah Jane Adventures this year and does anyone else think that it's been better than the last couple of series of Doctor Who?

The first series (with the exception of The Trickster ep) was distinctly underwhelming, but as of the second series the quality has really improved, the Sontaran episode was decent enough if only for having the guts to show (albeit green) blood on a kid's show and the second story of this series (about a Tulpa) was by far the best episode they have ever done..

Kate Winslet would've been lovely. She can do the sassy, fast-talking thing with charisma and charm. Alex Kingston just wound up sounding condescending and obnoxious.

It was still a surprising performance out of Kingston, as it was a completely different type of condescending and obnoxious than what she did on ER.

Ironically, that bald, unabashed obnoxiousness on ER was somehow more endearing than her failed playful obnoxiousness on Doctor Who.

Billie gave birth last week
[http://www.stuff.co.nz/4735788a1860.html
Billie Piper, the star of raunchy television show Secret Diary of a Call Girl, has given birth to a baby boy.
The former Doctor Who actress welcomed her first child with husband Laurence Fox into the world at London's Portland hospital, after having a caesarean section, today.
At the time of writing no other details about the birth had been revealed.
The 26-year-old actress - who was accompanied by Laurence, 29, at the hospital - recently revealed she was feeling nervous about the birth, and had become obsessed with having scans.
She said: "Some women are all about this glowing, blooming thing, aren't they? I haven't really tapped into that. I've basically replaced all my vices for a new one - control.
"I've had about 10 scans and I bought one of those baby heart monitor things. Such a bad idea - it's like listening to a huge shell on the beach.
But I do love it. The whole thing is just so sweet, tender and adorable."
Congrats to them all.

yeah its from "the writer's tale" a book with some interesting insight into Russell T davies reign as producer. Also he wanted to an episode with JK Rowling
In further extracts from A Writer's Tale showrunner RTD has revealed his choice for The Eleventh Doctor - RUSSELL TOVEY. He may be already fmailiar to some DOCTOR WHO fans as he appeared in VOYAGE OF THE DAMNED as Midshipman Frame.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7618537.stm
Davies also revealed he had wanted JK Rowling to star in a Christmas special.
'Spoof' idea
However, Tennant had not responded well to the suggestion.
"David doesn't like the JK idea, he thinks it sounds like a spoof, so we've paused slightly, wondering whether to win him round or just abandon something that he's not going to be happy with," Davies said.

Is there not enough K9 in Sarah Jane now?
I imagine Mickey will be joining Torchwood based off the end of series 4.
Also David Tennant for Dr. Who - The Movie :D with lots of wibbly wobbly timey wimey.

I honestly think there should be a Doctor Who musical episode. There should be no wacky sci-fi/supernatural explanation for all the singing and dancing. It just happens as it would in any musical. Maybe at the end, whoever The Doctor is hanging out with that episode comments on all the singing, and The Doctor replies "Yeah. That was weird." And then the episode ends.

davis should never have gotten respect...the man can't even write good sci fi. he tried it several times and the most sci fi story from him we got was smith and jones, which was horrible.
now...i'm all for getting him fired out of a cannon into the sun if you're all with me?

Didn't he come up with Cybermen vs. Daleks?
I think there have been billons of fanfiction stories about that before he did it. And they were probably better writen and more balanced than his army of Cybermen who can't even hurt 4 Daleks let alone one.
TheCorpulent1

Yeah, if you've got a show with a big fanbase, you can pretty much guarantee that all the "vs." combinations have been thought of and discussed or been made into fanfics by said fanbase within a year or two. It's the nature of fandom to have character pissing contests.

It's one of the very few times Davies didn't write himself into a corner, and conjure some wacky-tacky plot device to fix everything. You know, stuff like sucking everyone with Void radiation back into the Void except for the Doctor because he's holding a clamp.

Didn't he write some good episodes in series 4?
his best ep in series 4 was midnight, which surprisingly apart from the setting wasn't overly sci fi. as with love and monsters it just shows that yes, RTD can indeed write good stuff, just not sci fi.
it's a sad thing when the head writer can't write for the shows main genre... but now he's gone and we have moffet who'll probably give us some eps that are meh and a few that everyone loves and ones that i'll argue to the death that they suck but everyone else loves.
i wish they could please us all...:csad:

What is so bad about the writing though?
other writers have atleast made up some kind of whoinverse style scenice explination for stuff that goes on in there episodes which allows us to beleive that little bit more that this is happening. RTD just has the most random explinations or "becasue it's part of the plot and was writen to just be there" which takes us out of the show and makes us groan at the telly...
