Actually, Harry died well after Bart Hamilton. The SSM 200 story was written in 1993 and Bart died in 1977.

I dont know how many of you remember or even know about the brief stint of Phil Urich as the Green Goblin, but he RAWKED. He found one of Harry's old Goblin hideouts, with updated weapons and technology and used it to save his Uncle Ben Urich. After that, he used the Goblin outfit and glider to "sky skate" around New York, having fun and not being a hero or a villian. Of course, he would always see a crime in progress and would reluctantly go stop it. He was always a little like Peter Parker in that he was kind of dorky and pining after a chick that he couldnt talk to at the Daily Bugle (where we were always treated to an extra dose of JJJ's ranting and raving :D).
The series only lasted 13 issues, but its one of the great things to come out of the 90's.

For the simple reason that we've already seen GG in S-M1 & Marvel/Sony would be hard pressed to shift any merchendise that involves a charactor whihc they'd already used a few years back. If anything we'll get Hobgoblin. At least they will be able to market him as a 'new' product!

Yes, a thread for the Green Goblin! Heh, he's actually my favorite out of the whole Spider-Man mythos, but only the original Norman Osborn. Harry was fine I suppose, but Norman Osborn is and always will be the one true Green Goblin to me.
Anyway, there's this website called spideykicksbutt.com, and it has one section entirely devoted to indepth Green Goblin articles, and some reference to him seems to always creep into the other articles as well; madgoblin is a fan of him too, so the attention to him should be expected. :) It's one of my most favorite websites, and I highly recommend it to Green Goblin fans and general Spidey fans alike.

I hate to say it, but I think Juggy might be a little out of Norman's league. Goblin and Spider-Man are approximately the same strength, and Spidey gave Juggernaut his best but didnt even slow him down. Pumpkin bombs wouldnt do much, since Jugs took an exploding semi head on and kept coming. Could be interesting though.
GG vs DD might be interesting. Matt is a little darker and meaner than Peter, so he could dish it out to Osborn as good as Norman can. I think Daredevil is closer to Norman's power level than Jugernaut. (Dont mean to be trashing your idea, man. Just thinking "out loud." ;) )

I like both the classic and original Ultimate Goblin costumes. I dont care much for the latest design of the Ultimate Goblin. The hood and cloak is just much more regal looking than having Norman run around in some pants. He looks like a PO'd redneck in the pants.

Bringing it back!!!!
So just read Legacy of Evil, what a story! Its a pity that they runied stories like this by bringing ol' Norman back. He should have stayed dead the hunting memories that Spider-Man had in this book took the Osborns to a new level that they don't have with him and his bastard children about.
Also read the drugs issue. Joey Q take note. As much as I'm enjoying Civil War we need to go back to these stories afterwards rather than another big movie tie-in event. I got out my handy dandy check list and marked the story.

Me like! One little nit picky thing though: the Goblin with the cape doesnt have the long hat thing. The hat he wore was more like a skullcap. See?

The only thing bad about the Spider-Man movies was Green Goblin`s costume.
Spider-ManHero12
03-15-2007, 08:54 PM
Green Goblin is really a cool villian. I mean he has alot of history with spidey and alot of events happened between him and spidey. the most tragic and the most sad, and the biggest event in spidey history was when Gwen Stacy sadly died. I mean that is one of the things that made the Green Goblin one of the most popular villians in spidey history besides Venom. now as for movie Green Goblin, I thought his look was cool. I mean it was frightening and it had armor on it. I'm thinking that if they when't with the comics look then the Green Goblin's costume would look like a halloween costume which is why I think is one of the reasons James Acheson and the whole costume crew didn't go with the comics look. I'm not mad or dissapointed though.
Demogoblin
03-15-2007, 09:09 PM
Too true, the comic costume wouldnt have worked onscreen. Change was necessary and inevitable. Still, some combination of the movie Goblin costume and the Alex Ross costume design would have been better. The mask was cool looking, but it was a performance killer. Some facial expression would have made the Goblin so much more real.
Oh, and if you guys havent voted already, I have a poll in the Spidey 1 forum on just this subject.

hi all i,m new here and go by the handle grimleyfiendish, i'm a huge fan of ole gobby and am currently making a suit. the pic is of the mask sculpt (pretty early on) it is going to be cast in platsil gel10 silicone and intrinsically coloured. it will move with my own features hence the neutral expression. even got pumpkin bombs in the process of being made. i saw the post with the guy (sorry i forgot your name) wearing a suit and thought it was great. i'll put more pics up as i progress. he's already nearly sculpted so more pics in a day or two.

DEMOGOBLIN thanks for the kind words, ive nearly finished the sculpt and he will be moulded at the end of the week. ive had some intrest in this so i think i'm going to do a limited run to sell to fans of the goblin. the platgel i am casting it in feels and moves just like real flesh and will move with the wearer so you can get the look thats in the comics i.e. large grins , frowns etc. i do a lot of special effects makeup and this stuff is state of the art and not cheap, there is no real way of mass producing them in silicone and get the results. i think they will go for about £150 / 200 quid each the silicone alone costs about 50 quid. they are going to be intrinsically coloured with a slight pearlescent green finish . i'll post more pics this week.

The cover to the next issues looks sweet, it will be interesting to see what happens if Gobby decides to put Bullseye in his place....just like he did in the last issue! :gg: "Guard, I think Bullseye can do without bathroom privledges for 24 hours, dont you?" Well, the new Thunderbolts came out today. Goblin stayed tucked away inside Norman's mind, but Norman is cracking up. He keeps saying Spider-Man when he means Steel Spider. Damn you, Ellis! Stop teasing us and let Norm fly off the handle! :gg: :bomb:
Also, the team psychiatrist told a fellow team member that Norman is "massively bipolar," the first time that a definitive diagnosis of Norman's mental illness has been given to us. She believes that he will continue to disintigrate mentally, at which point she will take over as leader of the Thunderbolts. That should be interesting to see. :woot:

That's not too bad of a price for a tat of that size and with that much color. My girlfriends Supergirl tat cost about 300, and took about 4-5 hours.
My next tat is going to be the famous shot of GG dragging Peter behind his glider, his mask off, but the suit being exposed underneath his clothes. But it's a pretty expensive one, so I'm saving and saving.:ninja:

Just wondering: Whats everyone's opinion of the Grey Goblin? For those of you who arent familiar with him, http://spiderfan.org/characters/gabriel_stacy.html
Here is what I think. Norman Osborn seemed to have a personality transplant after he was impaled by his glider. Before, he was a cackling lunatic, someone that was clearly mentally ill. He had hallucenations and ranted and raved to himself while he was the Goblin. Nowadays, Norman seems more in control of himself, probably due in part to the medical patches that keep him from having psychotic episodes after the Gathering of Five.
Much as I like Norman now, I kind of liked the raving madman that he was before. True, the depiction of his madness wasnt very true to life, but that was just the stories being products of thier times. People wanted an evil lunatic, not a person suffering from a sickness.
That brings us to Gabriel Stacy. In the final part of Sins Past, as the Grey Goblin is pummeling a weakened Spider-Man, he is ranting and raving like a schizophrenic. Something about the way the Goblin looked seemed very J.R. Sr to me. I know Gabriel is an unpopular character, to put it lightly, but I kind of like that he is a throwback to the old Norman. Now we have a cold, calculating Green Goblin and a loose cannon Grey Goblin.
Of course, my one concern is, where does this leave the Hobgoblin? I mean Roderick Kingsley. He always seemed to be the calculating Goblin to Norman's lunatic. He is a great A list villain and I really want him to come back, but I dont know how he can stand out with two other Goblins around.

Lizard may be my favorite Spidey villain, but GG is hands down his best.
Even when GG stories suck they're still worth reading...except for Final Chapter (that was just too wretched). But Death of Gwen Stacy/Goblin's Last Stand, the drugs three-parter, Unmasked, even Revelations, the little boy lost storyline (Norman kidnapping his own grandson to prove his innocence), Goblin's Gate, the one where he brainwashes Peter and of cour A Death in the Family.
Great stories, best villain. And Harry was another great villain as seen when DeMatthis or Conaway wrote him and he managed to steal the show from both Sandman and Venom in the third movie as well.

Ah nice to see someone who grew up with it the same as me.
Seriously, I was only 10 at the time, but seeing Ben Reilly/Jackal in the animated series was such a crucial moment. I loved that.
It defined what Spider-Man was at the time. And, I guess at that age, I had more tolerance [read- naivety?] to the story.
Yes, parts may be contrived...but I really and truly I loved it. It's really the only Spider arc that resonates with me because of the memories it creates. :yay:
This may not make the least bit of sense, but hey.

I was a sophomore in high school when I started reading Spidey comics, waaaay back in the day. Yeah, I know exactly what you mean about re-reading old comics and bringing back old memories. Yes, parts of the Clone Saga are definitely a stretch (even for a comic book) but so are a lot of current stories. (ie, Charlie Wiederman burning down Auny May's house, conveniently forcing Peter to live in Stark Towers right before Civil War.)
Enough sentimentality! More Norman!

Aw. I love the Goblin arcs back in the day. The art is tremendous.
And...for some reason....I can't really put my finger on it....but it's got a real 'NYC' feel to it.
A gritty almost noir feel to it all. Which really makes it all the better.

Weird. When I checked this thread at home, this last page (and much of the last page) didnt exist.
Yeah, I like the new clean art a lot but there is something to be said about the old style too.

The new art is amazing [excuse the pun] but the old ways still have their charm.

Ditko's rendition of GG is by far, my all time favorite.

If I remember correctly, Green Goblin had his broom glider in the 1960's cartoon at first. I loved the Green Goblin in that show.

Agreed, Ditko designed many things Spidey related that we know and love yet today. His designs for the characters are so powerful that they are still used today, take Spidey's suit for example; the suit has barely changed throughout the years.
So did I. Didn't nearly all of the episodes he appeared in deal with magic?

I laways loved this issue, where the Green Goblin uses Spider-Man's own overrated webbing against him. :gg: :bomb:

Yes, I tihnk all the episodes the Green Goblin appeared in had to do with magic. But they were still great.

A Kingpin/Goblin War would be interesting to see.

A Kingpin/Goblin War would be interesting to see. Yeah, it would be great if they did that in the comics. Or maybe even the upcoming Spectacular Spider-Man animated series.

I would want to see it in the comics. I just dont see a kids TV show doing a Kingpin/Goblin War justice. It'll never happen either way, but its a cool idea.
Oh well. More Gobby and his sky stick.:woot:
