All posters are made in Paint. I know, Paint is not quite good to make posters, but it is a beginning.

PhotoShop is much better and i gonna look for it.

Enjoy my posters and all the other posters from the other members!!!

It's just a thought ctmarvelman. 2 characters played by Tom Hanks. The one doesn't speak good English (like i) and the other one is a little bit strange...

2 "special" persons in 1 movie? You never know...

Spider-Steve, do you have High Speed Internet?

Spider-Steve

Hi Drakon,

I have Belgacom ADSL. Belgacom are the Belgian leader in telephony. ADSL is fast, but Telenet (internetconnection with the TV-cable) is faster.

Check out http://www.belgacom.be/home/en/jsp/dynamic/homepage.jsp and www.telenet.be (he site does only exist in Duth and French) as you like to reed more information. I don't know as the pages exist in English.

Drakon,As you live in America, what do you use for your internetconnection? Is that America On Line (AOL)?

I just searched a pic from Robo. I searched also a cool font on www.1001fonts.com.

I found a font, installed it on my pc, then i was thinking for a good text (tagline) and typed it in Word, cut it and paste it in Paint.

Friends of me say that PhotoShop is not easy to work with it. When i gonna have it, i hope i can work with it in a few days.

Does somebody has some advice for me to make good artwork in PhotoShop?

Hi :)

I assume that you have DSL, then. And while I do also have an AOL Account [as per my friend's parents] I actually have DSL speed internet through a small company called Zoomtown.

I can only offer the advice that I used myself--Dont be afraid to experiment. I have looked at a few sites to learn different techniques, but for the most part, I was a trial-and-error kinda guy.

Steve, PWN means that you were basically just shown how much you suck, according to them.

Seriously, guys, if you dont have anything constructive to say, please don't post in the thread. We already know that the only tool he has is MS Paint, so it's hard for him to blow our minds, but jeez. A little support and encourgement would be nice. I think we all as artists know how hard it is to work when you don't have much to work with.

Spider-Steve
03-12-2005, 10:53 AM
Hi Drakon,

Thanks to explain what PWN means. Ok, Paint is more for children. Instand of paper they use Paint to draw and color and such things.

I know PhotoShop is much better, but hopefully i gonna get i next saturday!!! I hope it is a Dutch version!!!

I get a lot of positive comment with my Robocop 4 poster. That was easy: a pic from his back with under the pic a text.

Who looks can see, it is a pic from a Robo-game!!! As you search with Google, you can find the pic back! ( I cut peaces of the real pic away because you see more on the real pic)

And very important! Drakon: Thanks to deffend me! People who know me, known that i'm a real moviefreak! Maybe i'm sometimes (or moste of the times) to optimistic to make something and put it here on this forum.

Maybe we can open a new topic: Make a movieposter... in Paint!!!! Then we can see how other people does it when they don't have/use PhotoShop...

Oh yeah, something different: Is anybody here a fan of drum and bugle corps?

No biggie, dude. I know what it means to have a good eye for art, just not the outlet you need. I have great ideas, that sometimes won't translate as well as I would hope them to. You got a good eye, bro. I just hope that when you get Photoshop, you get an even better one.

And hopefully, we can start making this thread a little more positive.

Drakon,

Nice that you want to help me. Saturday somebody from my family comes to visit us (my, my siter and parents)

That person knows a lot from pc and he gonna bring PhotoShop for me. Then i gonna instal it, and then try/learn to use PhotoShop.

I also wonder how it would be. Assistence on the internet. The new way of communication.

Internet is good and bad. Good: You meet other people Bad: Internet is addictive!

Dr. Doom is very negative about my matrix-poster. I never search for trouble with somebody but i'm a little bit dissapointed of his reply... :( Maybe he is jealous it isn't his/here idea.

Clone of Neo... That isn't so strange i think for a movie?! And i hope there comes a Matrix 4... Maybe not direct, but before 2010?...

Thanks! I notice it myself and i try to keep on making good posters. It's not easy! I want to do something with a background, but i don't know how to do that...

Like this one from Barney:

http://img94.exs.cx/img94/4466/spiderman3teaser2ao.jpg

Only, the background is in Spidey's body, and i want it after it. Hope you know what i mean...

Difficult to explain in English, especially when don't speak it very good.

Here 2 other posters from me:

I can't think of a single poster that uses "Coming Out in (whenever)".

You're getting better, Steve.

When an image is cut off like that, [Bat's legs], you should really find some way to have that covered up, like make it at the end of the pic, or something. It should never be something really drastic, but if it works, use it.

Examples----

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v34/Drakon/SHH/batbegcopy.jpg

Here, I simply cut your Batman out the pic, and replaced him near the bottom, so you can't see his legs are gone, you expect them to be there when the pic is done, so it looks right.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v34/Drakon/SHH/8.jpg

Here, I got a little fancy. I took a brush I downloaded from Pretty Brushes (www.prettybrushes.net), (www.prettybrushes.net) and made a white fog around his legs, so you cannot see the ends. Again, you already know to expect them there, so there is plenty or room to work with. You will also note the Batlogo stands out a bit more. I simply selected the logo, cut away the background, right clicked the layer, and added some blending effects.

Spider-Steve
04-14-2005, 05:07 AM
Wauw! Look's very good! Thanks! Like what you have done with the logo!

The fog is also good, but isn't it a bit to much fog? I don't gonna discus about it. It's just my opinion.

But again, thanks! I like them!

Good thing you told us, for a minute there I thought you had taken that picture.

See? It's that kind of crap that disgusts me. When I pick up a new comic,I sure as hell don't any last one of your names on it. And hell, at least he has a thread showing his stuff so that he can [try] to get some constructive C&C. The only one of you three that even have an art thread on the first five pages of this section is Nicolae, and a lot more people have been to this thread than to yours. 2,633 views since Feb. 15 is a much higher ratio than 633 since March 16.

Seriously, it's stuff like that that makes other artists, [hell, for all we know, Bendis and Miller themselves peruse our boards] NOT want to post art. If you can't be helpful, quit yo' jibba jabba, foo's.

And for what it's worth, you guys should be happy I am not in a position of power. Excelsior has been remarkably lenient around here, and has given consistant warnings--especially about the flaming. Same with Bob. I don't like the idea of probation or bannings [especially to good artists], but just cause you have a speck of talent doesn't mean you should be crass about it. Everyone is accountable. Don't believe me? Just ask Coolius. Personally? I would make examples out of the three of you, and give you a week's probation. But, lucky for you, it's not my call. Just realize you lost a lot of respect.

The Traveller

I'm not against Spider-Steve posting his stuff for criticism, i'm against all those who falsely encourage him.

I've seen a lot of good fan art in this forum, really good and I can't stand that people are to blind to see that he's not actually making a "poster", he's grabbing someone else's artwork, slapping a bunch of text (most of the time just a big "3"), and claiming it as his "fanmade poster". You'll know what i'm talking about the moment he uses the fan art from any of our fellow posters and says he did it because he added some text.

Antinicolae

I don't have as many views because I don't post as much stuff. Why you ask? Because if I'm going to do anything, I want to take my time and actually put some effort into my work. If you want me to just start putting the number 3 on random pictures, I guess I can manage that.

What good does it do to just compliment Spider-Steve just for putting text over a photo? Rather than trying to rush to put out a new piece, he should take the time to make something unique. And some of it is just plain laziness. I could have made the example below better just using paint. How hard is it to at least paint over the background around spidey? I have to assume from the quality that despite having photoshop he's still using Paint. It took me a whole 8 minutes to remove the junk around spidey. Like I said, laziness.

I understand that, but your comment was [at least, in the context that I drew it from] was still crass and out of line. He's pretry much where I was when I first started. Getting to know what function of Photoshop does what. Tweaking things, adding things, subtracting things. And, two years later, I'd like to think that I'm not too bad with it.

Besides, what he's doing is no worse than when someone else draws a character [say, The Thing] without a reference picture, so it's an original drawing. If his brow isn't huge, or his rocks as rocky as they are in the comics, for all intents and purposes, is that not still "your" art? Now, I'm not by any means saying that Steve should only do what he's been doing til he is no longer satisfied with art---that'd be jackassish on my part. I want him to get better. But right now, he's only had Photoshop for---what? A Month? And between work, sleep, and other human activity, I'm sure he hasn't been able to learn to do anything phenominal just yet. Just cut him some slack, will ya?

I mean, Steve's already had to deal with his fair share of BS, and [admittedly] I was perhaps a bit quick on the draw to fully get your drift. For which I apologize. But I'll be damned if I am gonna let another artist get flamed for experimenting. And as a community of artists, we should all be critical, but supportive.

Example---

Good thing you told us, for a minute there I thought you had taken that picture.
Did you "squish" it from the sides all by yourself or did it come like that?

Glad to see you are still with it, Steve. How about kicking it up a notch? Adding text to the pictures is okay, but do something with the pictures themselves. Experiement with some of the functions.

I guess in the end, it all comes down to semantics. If your friend said "Do these pants make me look fat?", I'm sure you wouldn't be crass and say "If by fat, you mean your belly looking like the overlooming avalance over your beltline". A simple "I'd go for a different pair,eh?" would suffice.

Again, sorry for instantly throwing up defenses, but Steve seems prone to flame attacks. And it doesn't help that most of our posters here nowadays seem more akin to Johnny Storm than they used to.

No apology needed here. It was meant to be a burn, but it might have been a little harsh. In all fairness, I may be biased in my criticism. I've been judging him mostly on his inability to speak english. Also, there's something about the hype that turns me into an angry person. I can be posting at one site and be supportive. Then I come to the hype and deal with all the post limits and newbie condascension. That makes me want to start killing people. Sorry for being so harsh, Spider-Steve. I'll ask nicely.
Can you please try to put a little more time into each piece? I'm sure you could do some great work if you took a break from posting and just experimented in photoshop for a week or so.

Agree! But, whe all "steal" things that already exist! Pics from searchsites, official sites,...

But!!!! I never sayed it's my work! I already sayed that i use pics on the internet (and then i mean also art from other members of this board)

The ones with the big 3: It's like the postcards with Doc Ock, Spidey,... I just use pics and put a 3 under it to let it look like a kind of postcard...

Steve

Spider-Steve

I know, i always make things in less than one hour...

YES! The book about PhotoShop is back in the library! I just can borrow it for 3 weeks! Now, i'm gonna go back to the library and hope they have the book.

Later, i gonna buy the book, but in stores i find PhotoShop 7 and not CS...

Indeed, laziness, time to work on that. Strange thing is this: I have work (i mean a job) and i'm lazy! I'm also too impulsive! 2 bad properties! I'm drawing back more. Just it's all crap! Made a head of an alien, and that's the only thing that is a little bit good... Gonna redraw it in big version and colour it.

Ik ben niet alleen slecht in posters en wallpapers maken, maar ook in Engels. Eigenlijk kan ik vanalles, maar niets perfect, behalve dan de clown uithangen, onozel doen, zeveren, ...

English: I'm not only bad in making posters and wallpapers. I'm bad in everything i do. I can do one thing perfect except behave as a clown, going nuts,...

Englisch: O yeah: I know a lot about movies. When i see a trailer i can say: i gonna like this movie. One time i made a mistake. Does anybody loves Lemony Snickets? I thaught it would be a good movie, but my opinion: It "sucks" (i use word that i learned here) Jim Carrey dissapointed me in that movie.

If this guy showed up at a comic convention and showed his "art" what do you think would happen?
I've been right next to Charles Vess when he was in a particularly vicious mood and he made a girl, a girl that had a lot of talent CRY, she ****ing cired from the stuff that he said to her about her very nice, very proportionate drawings, and you think your fake praise is going to help steve in any way?

No, you're infact holding him back, you and all others who think that praising someone witht undeserved encouragement is somehow stimulating their growth.

Look, I have been here in the forums for a long time, long time even before I signed on, the thing that gets me it's that I have seen people get critiques on their work and take them, this thread has had nothing but praise and the few people that dare speak out against the fact that it's BAD get flamed by drakon for not being "Supportive", frankly, in the interest of the forum I'll just step out of this thread after answering Steve, but just blind praise will not do him any good, I can understand that he doesn't have to be professional quality but c'mon, taking bits and pieces from other people's work and rearraging them is "collage" making.

Charles Vess Is overrated my point is not that, but the fact that someone out there who is an artist for a living will not be as quite as "supportive" as you all, and frankly if he didn't want any negative comments he should've stuck to showing his stuff to his friends and family.

Without a trial of his peers, without constructive crit, and without people giving him tips, he WON'T get better. Do you think you would have learned to read without someone's help? Then how do you expect him to get better with drawing without C&C? Magick?

because If you have ever been to a portfolio review you KNOW that his stuff is sub-par, and he is old enough to know that as well (I'm sure you must own tons of comics with art similar to steve's huh? I'm sure you'd pay for them? right?) I'll be the first to admit--Professional? Steve is not. I know his stuff is sub-par--even for an average High School art class. That's not the point. The point is, be his art good or bad, we should help him to get better. Not by saying that his stuff "sucks" or whatever, but by telling him how to do it better. Nobody on this board has learned everything they know on their own. They have had teachers, parents, friends, peers, SOMEONE to help them learn along the way. Pay it forward.

If this guy showed up at a comic convention and showed his "art" what do you think would happen?I've been right next to Charles Vess when he was in a particularly vicious mood and he made a girl, a girl that had a lot of talent CRY, she ****ing cired from the stuff that he said to her about her very nice, very proportionate drawings Thanks for the heads up. If I ever see Charles Vess, I'll remember to kick him in the balls with my fake leg. And I already know that he would get boo'd off the stage. I mean, hell, he's getting booed of the stage of non-professionals right here at SHH.

and you think your fake praise is going to help steve in any way?
No, you're infact holding him back, you and all others who think that praising someone witht undeserved encouragement is somehow stimulating their growth.it's the opposite, you're stiffling it. Have you even backlogged to see what I have been saying about Steve? Not once have I called his work Mind-Blowing. Nor have I called it crap, however. Read all my previous posts, and you will see what you SHOULD be doing.
Duker is right. You will learn more and faster if you just experiment. That's a good start, Steve. There's not a lot I can do to actually HELP you. Best I can suggest is that you tinker with some of the Photoshop effects, and see what you like and don't like. If you have a specific question, I will be more than happy to help, but overall, this is gonna be your project. As for posters, why not do some game-related stuff? Maybe a Final Fantasy poster or two? And really explore the brushes and blending effects.
Or, look at this post (http://www.superherohype.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5474450&postcount=119), or even go back to pages 6-9, and look at the discussion I was having with Antinicolae and Traveller.

so I encourage YOU to find a new pet project Nah, I kinda like it here at SHH Fan Art, so I think I will stick around, and help newbies. http://www.superherohype.com/forums/images/smilies/icon14.gif

The thing that irritates me about these threads are the uber supportive "whoa that's awesome!!!!111" when it's not. You're not helping the guy out by just saying whatever he does rocks. Seriously its not art if you take two photos, combine them and give lettering saying ______vs_______. Its poor. And you people don't have the balls to say it.

Look, I have been here in the forums for a long time, long time even before I signed on, the thing that gets me it's that I have seen people get critiques on their work and take them
So have I. I remember when Mnemo and Corpulent1 were regular posters in Fan Art. I'm trying to uphold the tradition of being supportive without total immense negativity.

This thread has had nothing but praise and the few people that dare speak out against the fact that it's BAD get flamed by Drakon for not being "Supportive". Hold the phone. If it comes off as flaming, then I apologize. But there is a difference between "Your works sucks!" and "Your proportions are way off; here is a site that can help you learn how to do them better."

Frankly, in the interest of the forum I'll just step out of this thread after answering Steve, but just blind praise will not do him any good. I agree. Hence why I encourage him to get better, instead of "stagnating", as you put it [not sarcasm, I had honestly forgot the word I was looking for til I read you say it.] [/quote] I can understand that he doesn't have to be professional quality but c'mon, taking bits and pieces from other people's work and rearraging them is "collage" making.
[/QUOTE] Agreed. However, he never said that he took the photos, or drew the pictures in his posters.

Charles Vess Is overrated my point is not that, but the fact that someone out there who is an artist for a living will not be as quite as "supportive" as you all, and frankly if he didn't want any negative comments he should've stuck to showing his stuff to his friends and family. Again, admittedly so. And I don't want you thinking that I am against negative comments, cause, I'll be honest. His work can be subpar. On the other hand, if I can't tell him how to improve [which I have been doing]. then I don't need to be talking.

I agree, this will be dropped. But if you want to continue through PMs, I'd love to. It seems you have a misconception of me.

Wow. Didn't see you turning that back on to me from a mile away!

and still you did it, that makes you a brave fool....kudos.

No, but there is no reason to flame his art. Be constructive, or be quiet.

yeah, I'll remember that whenever you say somethign I disagree with in communtiy or any other place like that, your attempts at modding are sad and unwarranted, why only here whe I have seen you and other Oldbies goa around being all "negative" in community....sorry It just seems abit hipocritical to me.

you mistake being dilluted to being constructive, he is not 10 and should be able to take it from the source, like I said , it's the kind of reaction he ellicited from me and that's it. I have seen this type of thing get overlooked by you in other threads.

fact, a guy posted some art a while ago and dew came in and said that his drawings made a "mockery" of the models they were drawn after, I didn't see you there telling her to beconstrcutive or be quite, I wonder why?

And when will he knows he gets better? Does Tinkerbell tell him to start posting again? Without a trial of his peers, without constructive crit, and without people giving him tips, he WON'T get better. Do you think you would have learned to read without someone's help? Then how do you expect him to get better with drawing without C&C? Magick?

yeah, good example there Drak  , now imagine that when I was learning to read and I read "book" as "flame spewing dragon" my teacher said "good going, keep at it" instead of "WTF? you kidding me?"

I'll be the first to admit--Professional? Steve is not. I know his stuff is sub-par--even for an average High School art class. That's not the point. 1.- I never said he "sucks" but I cannot condone the fact that he's not making original artwirk and is telling everyone that he is, and you're agreeing.

2.- sure good point, coddling is never a good way to learn either

Thanks for the heads up. If I ever see Charles Vess, I'll remember to kick him in the balls with my fake leg. And I already know that he would get boo'd off the stage. I mean, hell, he's getting booed of the stage of non-professionals right here at SHH.

I'm sure Charles Vess carries a sword or a staff or elves or some **** like that, so I think a fake leg would leave you at a disadvantage, and the way i see it better he get a dose of reality here than outisde in the real world, or would you rather someome told him later on?

Have you even backlogged to see what I have been saying about Steve? Not once have I called his work Mind-Blowing. Nor have I called it crap, however. Read all my previous posts, and you will see what you SHOULD be doing.

oh yes, and by the way, did you ever tell him to start CREATING HIS OWN STUFF? instead of praising his manips? nope, i didn't see that maybe i missed it, I see a lot of tips and a lot of projection but no advice on actually creating stuff sorry. not backlogging enough I guess

Oh, I looked at it, however it still strikes me as odd, and just like you "like It Here" so do I, so I'll just say this. the post was aimed at steve, and here you are answering it, when it has nothing to do wih art now, all you want I wish your modship applied to averything and not just your little pet project.

Hmm, there we go again. Arguing over Steve. I must say Drakon is right. We don't tell him he's awesome, or that his stuff is mindblowing. We tell him to keep trying, and get better. Isn't this the way you learn. Try, fall down and try even harder ???
Not al of us are blessed with a drawing talent, we must learn it the hard way.

I can see you inked your pencil drawing.

Don't be afraid to scribble a lot when you are using a pencil, it doesn't matter because you are going to erase it when you ink it, that way you only use the line you liked better.

And try to crop the unnecessary edges from your scans, it makes you look lazy.

and still you did it, that makes you a brave fool....kudos.Damn, forgot the rolleyes smiley.

yeah, I'll remember that whenever you say somethign I disagree with in communtiy or any other place like that, your attempts at modding are sad and unwarranted, why only here whe I have seen you and other Oldbies go around being all "negative" in community....sorry It just seems a bit hipocritical to me. Community is a place to talk crap. Fan Art is a place to talk Art. And yes, Community really isn't a place where you see me being uber positive. I'll admit. But community, like Fan Art, is a shell of it's former self. I'm starting small, and doing what I can to bring it back to a former glory.

And Modship? I'm not worried one little bit about Modship. I am a mod at a male-oriented forum, and an Admin/Co-Founder with Malice [formerly of SHH Fame] for a World of Warcraft Board. Having power is a take it or leave it thing for me here. Besides. I talk to Dew and another unnamed mod on AIM on a regular basis, so if I was worried about moderation, I would simply lead them to the posts.

You mistake being dilluted to being constructive, he is not 10 and should be able to take it from the source, like I said , it's the kind of reaction he ellicited from me and that's it. I have seen this type of thing get overlooked by you in other threads. You're right. I probably have overlooked it before. I'm far from perfect. But at least I'm handsome. [or funny. I haven't decided yet.]

Fact, a guy posted some art a while ago and Dew came in and said that his drawings made a "mockery" of the models they were drawn after, I didn't see you there telling her to beconstrcutive or be quite, I wonder why? Would you please show me?

yeah, good example there Drak  , now imagine that when I was learning to read and I read "book" as "flame spewing dragon" my teacher said "good going, keep at it" instead of "WTF? you kidding me?" No, but if the teacher didn't tell you that it was "book" instead of "flame spewing dragon", then we would have a problem.

1.- I never said he "sucks" but I cannot condone the fact that he's not making original artwork and is telling everyone that he is, and you're agreeing.

2.- sure good point, coddling is never a good way to learn either 1--The ideas, though bland as some of them may be, are his. He's never admitted to taking the photos of Batman or Spider-Man.
2--

I'm sure Charles Vess carries a sword or a staff or elves or some **** like that, so I think a fake leg would leave you at a disadvantage. I'll sic my attack midget on him  and the way i see it better he get a dose of reality here than outside in the real world, or would you rather someome told him later on? I understand that point. And yes, I agree. But on the other hand, there's no need to be a prick about it. I'm not calling you a prick, just stating my point.

oh yes, and by the way, did you ever tell him to start CREATING HIS OWN STUFF? instead of praising his manips? nope, i didn't see that maybe i missed it, I see a lot of tips and a lot of projection but no advice on actually creating stuff sorry. not backlogging enough I guess
I know I suggested once he get comfortable enough with Photoshop, that he should start to work on his own stuff. But I believe that was in a PM. I know I eluded to it when I mention my Star Wars Pic [which I will post as soon as I am done here].

Oh, I looked at it, however it still strikes me as odd, and just like you "like It Here" so do I, so I'll just say this. the post was aimed at steve, and here you are answering it, when it has nothing to do with art now, all you want I wish your modship applied to averything and not just your little pet project. Either or. No need for sardonic remarks.

I was thinking the same thing.
Spider Stev just keep on doing what you are doing, and don't mind some of these guys.
You'll get better if you keep practicing.
Try drawing from pictures or other artists it's a good way to learn.
