what program did u use dragon for the spidey movie?

Thanks again, DL, Squirrel, Thresh, GG.

I use for the most part 3D Studio Max for animation.

3DStudio Max, thats a good program, but I could never get it to do anything I wanted....I use Maya since I suck with 3DSM. I am glad to see someone putting it to really good use, very impressive dragon.

Are you going to school for this? or did you teach yourself?

Thanks Spider-Girl. Yeah, I taught myself. About 5 years ago, I just said I was going to learn the program and haven't come up for air since. I also work with Maya, but only for modeling since I'm not comfortable enough to do much else. I at one point wanted to use Maya for some of this film, but that didn't work out. So hats off to you for getting good with it. It's a great program also, and I'm hoping to get more proficient, especially with the paint effects and particles.

What type of work do you do in Maya?

Some pics from a scene we should all recognize:

Oh, I'd have plenty of great little stories for that commentary. Like how people thought I was being attacked while doing fight dialogue for the flick. My dorm advisor at the time actually sat me down and asked me if my roommate was hurting me. It was friggin' hysterical! :O

I guess we film-freaks (who love to make little movies of our own) are going to fill this thread up with our own works and projects until Dragon delivers the highly anticipated and hyped Teaser Trailer for the film.

So, on that note, I shall present a new film from the insane minds that brought you the 'Gary & Sandy' trilogy (which hopefully all of you have never heard of, cause if you have, stop stalking me!!!) and the shorty Sam's Choice, which showed up earlier in the thread.

scarred (http://vp06.video.l.google.com/videodownload?version=0&secureurl=qwAAAJ5mK0zx_TUcqv5YRq_d77gm8C50YIBJeELH 7UNzR04wGY-MW3HPVeLlrQRugZqLwXklp9dYSPc_qF_ni4nFaeyyNDHYi_zy5 hs1IYV-_mV4LDkrMAKYNZFpdv0X976HLHvXBUeqoY7mQ7E3EC0Pf-6RiQ51IlP1Wxp-YQPFxoiKdBWhxIf7-nAFbmLYsKgRxEOk_IccmVprq_jI7EwIH2WZsWpZbj9WcyNCaHX WTVWr&sigh=um7UO9U3HIvMs611rJ58japvnq8&begin=0&len=1124123&docid=-7148075470429271308&rdc=1)

It's not a comedy like the last thing I put out, but a drama (featuring a slightly more Spideyesque me... Just don't expect nerdy attire, hip dialogue, or wall crawling action).

You'll also find that this one is more competently made and executed, with an emphasis on characters and atmosphere, rather than the emphasis on improvisation and comedy that Sam's Choice featured.

If you'd rather view them over at YouTube, you can check out the movie split in two, via my youtube page...

Webakin's Video Gallery (http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=Webakin).

Enjoy!

I havent got around to reading your sequel script yet but i was wondering, does Eddie Brock make an apperance (however fleeting) because if he does, I'd love to give voiceing him a try.
however i understand you have to get this masterpeice finished first before starting on the sequel so, all i can say now is good luck man, i really look forward to seeing the finished thing. :yay:

In Max I use a cylinder primitive as the webline (At least when i just need a thin line for him to swing on) and I add Noise and Flex modifiers to give it bounce and a frayed look. I know you have the equivalent in Maya, but I forgot what they're called.

and thanks for the kudos, guys.

He pretty much said that there will be updates coming, but he's got some pretty incredible stuff coming in the pipeline that has kept him from this project lately. However, this summer he should be able to return to working on finishing the film as well as perhaps starting the second installment.

He really wants everyone to see it all at once, so patience is going to be very important in the coming months.

During this slow period, I think it's gotta be on us to keep the train running and pumping people up about the film. Try to keep the thread bumping and hopefully, before we know it, we'll be getting great new updates from Dragon for the film. Maybe we'll even get a hint at some of the exciting things that he's got lined up next... :)

Yeah, as bad as it is for some of you guys who are dying to see stuff from the first film... I've already recorded my lines for it's sequel! I also feel I turned in a much better vocal performance the second time around, something that feels more 'classic Spidey' than the first one.

My whole thing with the first one was to make him a wimpy dork that got superpowers, using some nasality in the Parker lines and a more brassy tenor in the Spidey lines. In the sequel, however, I felt like Parker (now in College) would be a more confident (but not too confident) person in his own skin. Spidey's voice, on the other hand, dropped to a swaggering baritone. Kind of like something Harrison Ford would've pumped out 30 or so years ago.

Wouldn't you want to see the movie that features your Harrison Fordesque dynamo of a voice?

I thought so. :)

(It's really early and I didn't sleep very much)

Hey folks- it's been awhile, and I'm thankful for the continued support. I'm working on a couple feature films so that's the only thing that had been slowing me down on Spidey. But I'm done until the fall, so i can devote more time to this. Just want to assure everyone that regardless, i'm going to finish this movie. I'm having a blast working on it. I'm also kind of torn about posting stuff. i want you all to see what i'm doing, but at the time I don't want you to see the movie piecemeal, but rather in its full entirety. So I'm selective about how much I show. But i'll continue with the updates more frequently since as I said I'm done with my movie work until the fall.

I'm still learning! :ninja: :cwink: I use 3DS Max 9 now. But I've been doing animation for over 6 years. It took about a year and a half before I did anything that I can stand to look at. Another year before I really felt like I was getting any good at it.

The Max program comes with Tutorials covering pretty much all aspects of the program. But there's also a book series by author Kelly L. Murdock that he releases with each new version of Max. They haven't mentioned it yet, but i'm sure Max 10 will be released this year.

It is final rndering. But there are things that lower the quality. for one thing it's half the resolution. Also it's an AVI and uploading to photobucket further lowers the quality. It's a bit darer and more high contrast than the full render.

As ofr the voice acting, the one playing Unlce Ben is altering his voice to sound older than he is. He also plays Mendel Stromm in the movie. But I think he gives an excellent performance as Ben which is underlined by further dialogue done in the film.

That is great stuff, Thresh, but then you're an extremely talented actor.

But honestly, the more naive tone in the original stuff you did for Spidey 1, I think kind of suits Peter at that point better. The re-do you sounds like a more knowing Peter than the guy who's still shaken by all this stuff that's happening to him. The stuff you did for Spidey 2 shows a Peter who is growing up in the midst of all these crazy experiences and is maturing because of it.

At any rate, your work on these films keeps me inspired to churn it out, and I'm looking forward to hearing what you'll do with Spidey 3 and 4 ;)

Dragon, you sure do know how to butter a gir... actor up! I'm going to school for acting and I'm honestly pretty mediocre at best. I've done the training, so all of this incredibly fun Spidey stuff is merely just stuff that any old person can do with the right vocal range and the appropriate classes under their belt.

You know that if you write 'em, I'll talk 'em... That sounded better than it looks written. But in all seriousness, I'm going to hold you to that, because I don't feel finished with the character (especially not after where you left him in ASM2).

Oh and if you could get those fighting grunts to me that'd be great too :woot:

Oh stop being modest. I got ALOY of Spidey auditions and yours was far and away the best. I was even considering doing Spidey myself, athough my voice isn't really right for it, but i figured i could act my way through it. But you actually sound like Peter/Spidey. You also nailed the full range of emotions Peter is experiencing.

You're absolutely right, I just wanted to show off my new skillz... ;)

And like I said, it's great stuff. But say, had you given me that line initially, I'd have told you to make Peter sound more "golly gee" when delivering the line. Which.. you happen to have done in the first take anyway:woot:

You know that if you write 'em, I'll talk 'em... That sounded better than it looks written. But in all seriousness, I'm going to hold you to that, because I don't feel finished with the character (especially not after where you left him in ASM2).

Yeah.. and he's going to go through some real crap in those last two. :oldrazz:

How much do you need? Can I crank it out with a trip to the toilet after two bowls of Raisin Bran? Or do you need variety? :D

:joker: Well...Look at it this way. Go through the fights Spidey has in the script and imagine some of the hits he takes. Such as being hit by a bolt of lightning from Electro. Being slashed at by the Goblin's razor bats or just taking a very hard punch. As far as offensive grunts imagine Spidey throwing hits by degrees. A light punch, a medium level hit to putting everything he has into it. Also imagine other actions such as making long jumps, lifting heavy objects and dodging a series of attacks.

I mean, I don't need a ton of these things just a few takes covering those scenarios.

Yes I do have several additional voice parts. But - I'm still having trouble getting voice work from people that have major parts. So, anyone who wants to do voice characters, please make sure you are willing to do them in a timely manner. For example, I've recorded Gwen's 90 plus lines including retakes with the actress in a single afternoon. So, it shouldn't take long to do less than that. I'll be, in the next day or two, posting the characters that need voice recordings....and we can go from there.

Glad you like Ock. Those first tentacles were just filler until I figured out how I wanted them to look, and how I could pull them off without being a memory intensive nightmare.

Spidey 3 has several villains like the others, but the main villain is The Lizard. It basically continues up right where Spidey 2 ends with Peter picking up the pieces (or trying) after Gwen has left him.

Well I was only 18 when I did Shocker's voice.

18, in terms of development, is way beyond 15.

Nonetheless, I would love to be a part of this.

Or maybe its just funny to watch a 15 year old online try to talk down to someone.

Try not to get so aggravated by something someone says to you online. Its just silly. Okay buddy old pal?

I'd really like to make my own movies like this. What programs did you use to make the characters and then animate them? I'm really interested.

First, let's not turn the thread into bickering. To be clear I have not made any casting decisions for Doc Ock. I'm not even casting the second film yet since I am still working on the first. I only welcome asteroid as well as anyone else to audition for any role they are interested in. The pic I posted for Doc Ock was for a cameo scene with no dialogue.

To spiderfan the programs I use are 3D studio max for modeling and animation, combustion for compositing and effects, and premiere for editing. But if you have any further questions please ask.

Regarding voice work for this movie, the following characters are still uncast:

-Jonah Jameson

-Crusher Hogan

-Kurt Conners

-The Big Man

-The Vulture

-Robbie Robertson

-Bart Hamilton

-Silvermane

-The Ox

And several bit parts. For anyone audition please note the link below:

Wow cool, thanks for responding. A lot of people on this board may have just ignored me, so I appreciate you telling me. I don't know, I'd really like to start making my own models and animating them. But I'm sure you've probably taken some classes or studied the programs for a while. So, my question would be how did you learn how to use all of this stuff?

By the way its all looking great, I'm pretty interested.

I pretty much taught myself. I found the best way for me personally to learn it was to try different things and challenge myself with different types of effects and animations. I would come up with different types of scenes, usually involving comic characters like spiderman and the hulk, etc. It's definitely a learning process, my earlier work was pretty bad, so be patient with it. There are also a lot of free tutorials and instruction pages if you search online.

By the way, I'll be posting some new screens next week.

The Connor voice is fine...finish recording the other lines. I'll send you a pm to further elaborate, but we'll probably need some new lines for the Vulture fight, since I'm expanding it a bit. We are also missing a line from one of the other scenes.

I've been insanely busy lately, dude. Sorry I haven't gotten the extra Spidey noises or the Connors dialogue to you yet. I've been either at work or class for the last month with very little time to sleep, eat, or chill out... Let alone record lines for this film.

When I get a chance to lay down the lines on the laptop, I'll be sure to let you know instantly!
