OK so here are some of my drawings that I do in my spare time.

Nightwing and batgirl. I'm not really certain where the inspiration for this came from. It's a pretty dark, somber image though.

nightwing: ever the acrobat.
http://img136.exs.cx/img136/5412/batgirl6ow.jpg
sorry guys... this is a wicked crappy scan. :( but its batgirl on a jump line
http://img136.exs.cx/img136/7403/viola3nv.jpg
well i scanned this one a little crooked... and its no hero in particular. i did this during the comic book class i teach at work and the kids thought her face looked just like mine. must be some weird subconscious thing i do. i love her suit the best. if i were a superhero my suit would be just like that.

thanks. i should keep a running tally of how many guys think something dirty about that first one. right now its about 5 different guys. :D it's really meant to be kind of a sad picture.

i'm doing my first batman one ever right now. it's also my first attempt at a figure running ever so bear with me. i had to use Hush as a figure guide so i don't fu¢k it up too badly.

I work at an outdoor environmental education program for middle school kids. I teach all science all week long EXCEPT when I teach them my special comic book class. The kids go nuts over it. Their only complaint is I don't bring enough Marvel comics to look at :o

Anyway, here comes batman, superman and a portrait I did four years ago...

the batman one up above and this one are quick sketches i did in about 15 minutes each. as you can see batman was inspired by jim lee... i've never drawn a figure running before so i had to look on to see how the geometrics of the body were.
here's supes. if he doesn't look much like him its cause my friend asked me to stick his head on superman's body ;)

and lastly here's a portrait i did back in 2000 that i spent a whole lot of time on. it's my cousin but it *could* be a young bruce wayne, right?

Nice, esp. the portrait.
Portraits are very difficult to nail right, because you know what the person has to look like, there's no room for a hell of a lot of flaws.
I tried making one of my girlfriend, everybody likes it but me.

I like the portrait the best, but it looks like he is wearing lipstick

Babs Gordon
02-23-2005, 04:53 PM
well when you do a pencil portrait all shades of pink and red become very similar. so i don't blame you on the lipstick. i should get back into color but i don't really have the space :(

anyway. here's another quick sketch i did. this time batgirl and supergirl... no shading though.

thanks zer00! that's one of my favorites too. i started out with the girl... then i added the guy and i was like "hey-- that looks like nightwing and babs!" so i draw some stripes on his suit. i like the emotion in it best. it seems very tragic to me.

If there's anything you need to improve on, Babs, it's the anatomy. Usually, the arms are about the same length as the legs, so your arms need to be lengthened a bit.

Other then that, you're a preety good artist. The work, espically with the colors over it, sort-of reminds me of the drawings you'd see in fairy tale books. Your style would probably fit with something like Sandman like the perfect glove.

Babs Gordon
02-26-2005, 02:15 PM
well due to my minimal shading on the last few you can't easily tell that i'm using foreshortening techniques to show the angle of an arm or something. especially in the batman running picture.

and i don't know about you but my arms are only about 2/3 the length of my legs including a stretched out hand.

but thanks for the compliments. i'm a work in progress. having never had an art lesson in life learning anatomy is just practice. i can draw what i see really really easily but with those batman drawings i didn't even have something to look at save the face front running one. maybe i should look onto pictures of people for examples.

anywho, here's a little sketch i JUST did of aaron eckhart as green arrow

i know what you mean. i go through phases where i'm all about trying to draw something, and then it's like "eh, i'll draw when i feel like it", which i usually never do. the only time i really draw is at work when it's slow. then i draw stuff that's on the groceries or out of the magazines. more than half the stuff in my art thread was drawn at work.

i need to get back on the "on" side of drawing.

Nightwing and batgirl. I'm not really certain where the inspiration for this came from. It's a pretty dark, somber image though.

You're very good! I especially like your Batman drawing, but I like this one the best. You did an excellent job on their bodies, and the drama in the pose. Though I have to admit... as has been said before... my mind immediately went somewhere dirty. It's a guy thing, we can't help it. :D

Yes it is. One of my best friends is a teacher. I also have an aunt and uncle who teach, too. Well, they did. They're retired now.

It's a shame the job doesn't pay more -- it really should -- but either way somebody needs to do it, and it's great that you do.

haha just kidding. it's probably because it's one of the most challenging body positions i've ever tried and for whatever reason i decided to start with the legs. i'm weird like that. i decided i didn't want to do big bulgy arms anyway and i left out excess shading so folks over at the planet can color and shade it as they like.

You can get lint out of keyboards? I need your services. ;)

And a cook, too? Increasingly rare in a woman these days. I've had to refine my own culinary skills, on the theory that any woman I hook up with wouldn't be able to cook, or wouldn't want to. I make one hell of a blackened chicken alfredo. And I make my own spaghetti sauce, too. Of course the last time I tried that, I was staying with the woman I was interested in, and, uh... well... naturally I screwed up the recipe. But I did the dishes afterward. Impressed her roommate more than it did her, though.

Yes, I'm housebroken. :p

thanks keyser :) i've been spending more and more time on my drawings. especially on the guys i draw because they are more of a challenge for me.

I hear ya. It's always a little easier to sort out the anatomy of your own gender than it is the opposite one. When I started drawing superheroes (well, other than my deformed childhood attempts, I mean, LOL) back in high school, I had some trouble getting the female form to come out right. Now I could probably do it in my sleep.

i fixed nightwing so that his head wasn't so squat. it was annoying me.

You know, that's what sets you apart from most people. You have a really well-developed sense of proportion, which, most people who try to draw the human figure have difficulty with. I'm interested to know what your technique is. Do you start with a stick figure and build up, or, what?

Excellent as always, Babsy.

Huntress is wearing an unusual amount of clothing, but to be fair, it makes more sense this way. ;)

"Larissa Powers" sounds like a comic book name. Like it's your secret identity, a quirky school-teacher by day, and a sexy superheroic ass-kicker by night. :D

bwahaha yeah i like my name. i don't think i'll ever be able to part with it for marriage's sake or whatever. anyway, huntress had a costume change somewhere a few months back. people were getting annoyed with the bare midriff, the bare thighs... so impractical. so they redesigned it to make more sense. :)

I don't blame you. If I was you, I'd keep that name too. It's too awesome. And it suits you so well.

So... they put clothes on Huntress? What's next, no more fishnets for Black Canary? Wonder Woman in plate mail? Are we not allowed to be sexist anymore?!?!? :p

Personally, I think it's bull... because I guarantee you, if Siegel and Shuster had been women, Superman would be wearing a speedo and boots, and nothing else. Face it, it's already there in the subtext. "Pardon me while I jump in this phone booth and strip to my skivvies!" :supes:

Yeah, you don't wanna see it on me, that's a fact. Funny how that rule applies to men and not women. Well, okay, so it applies to some women... but I've never seen a woman who knew that.

You know, the more I look at your Huntress drawing the more I think it's the best one you've done yet. It's damn near flawless. Looking at it I would think you'd been to art school, if I didn't know otherwise.

EDIT: And I mean graduated and everything. it's amazing. The only possible flaw I see is that she needs more definition on the side of her torso... everything else is so perfectly defined. That's like the ONLY thing I would say. It looks absolutely professional.

thanks Keyser. I think it's all a matter of opinion. i still feel that ivy is my best or heck maybe even wonder woman. i just put a lot more time into huntress shading her. :)

We've got one computer in this house, and my folks don't want me to put a file-sharing program on it until we get a decent virus protection program. But, they don't want to pay for one, so we have a jam.
