Well, his upper arms look awfully bent ;-> Not why I'm writing, really. You did a nice job. This is more of a request... Would you, or someone else willing, please post a "first draft Suit" manip cobbled together these actual captures? I just had an amusing vision and would love to see it (with various facial expressions)...

Clark wearing ALL of:
* swim trunks from diving in to save Lois during "Aqua"
* usual blue tee
* "S" from shop class in front of his chest
* red blanket from hospital scene or even from the original ep. as cape
* "Joe" hairdo (add in spitcurl if desired)
animate with him putting on & taking off the glasses from when he was temporarily blinded...

For further amusement, make the backdrop a costume party and/or add the Santa hat...

That's exactly what ran through my head ("stripper or professional cheerleader?" followed). Instead of unmemorable bimboish eye candy, how about an intelligent-looking blonde in an outfit that won't pop up over her boobs as soon as she takes off? Keep the piping, if you like, but make the costume a one-piece (more like the original Supergirl cotsume) despite what's in the comics and walking the streets these days...

No clue who the actress (model?) in the manip is, but I don't watch a lot of TV. For intelligent but not ****ty-looking, how about Rachel McAdams (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1046097/)? She may be a tad older than he is, but makeup can adjust both of them if needed. Or Amanda Seyfried (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1086543/)? She's a lot younger than Rachel (though they were both in "Mean Girls" with Lindsay Lohan)...

I like this the best. In the Justice discussion, I commented that he shouldn't get the red-and-yellow \S/ until after his training. Ditto the cape. This looks good! I'd make the pants a bit looser, less like leggings, but I like it a lot :yay: No g-string, no unnecessary belt, no briefs, no bare arms, no cape. Maybe he should have a hood and shades to match the other guys, just for SV, but not after training...

it`s a mix of Photoshop drawing and a manip.

it`s hard to explain really.. because it was a little complicated but this ws done quite fast actually. I`ve sort of developed a technique..after doing it for so long it gets easyier as time goes by.
I have a drawing of welling as superman and as clark kent... now that one.. you`re gonna wanna see... unless you`ve seen it before.

This was a request made by a fellow member back at the planet. he wanted to see what welling would potentially look like as superman. So to be nice I did this manip for him.

The fact that lana is in it or that he`s holding suntan lotion or the location isn`t an issue at all, that wasn`t what this manip was supposed to be.

and the hair is that way because I wanted to try shorter hair this time, and I used that particular hair because the lighting fit much better than the other ones I was considering.

thanks Pat, but this is hardly my best work, I sort of had to rush this one to continue on this other manip I`m working on. I have plans to make another one of welling as superman using his own body. only that will be much better and more detailed, You probably know which one I`m talking about, it`s one of the pictures of him in season 3 I think, when he goes swimming with lana. he looked great there.

I think Tom Welling has the perfect body to portray Superman. He's 6'4" has a huge chest with well rounded firm shoulders, tight abs, small hips, long legs, big feet, beautiful hair, high cheek bones and square jawline, green/blue eyes, charisma, good looks, oh and he was also not too long ago voted as having the best arms. Did you distort (shrink) the \S/ to try and make it show more? I would leave the shape normal relative to his chest and just let whatever shows through show. That would be a lot more natural looking. You don't need to "see" then entire \S/ to know what it is. Also, the blue needs to be more opaque.

Is your actual picture bigger than what you posted? It's kind of hard to critique with such a small picture since in it's full-sized state (if there is one) things may look very different.

I think the hairstyle in all the Supes manips is very much a personal choice. You should just go with the one you like best. I like a little longer, more contemporary hairstyle with just a hint of a spitcurl, but others like it more traditional. I think it's the artist's choice.

There's just so much to love there. Welling and the SV cast goes w/o saying, but the trailer does more than that: it gives us an actual STORY to a proposed Superman film. I've seen professional film trailers that can't even get that right. You watch those trailers and think, well in'dat 'pecial. A bunch of pretty pictures that look cool, but are otherwise sewn together in meaningless ways. Sometimes that approach works if the film being advertised doesn't have much of a plot beyond the film's title. "Snakes on a Plane," anybody? LOL Anyhoo, I like what Wormy has proposed:

SUPERMAN REBORN
The story opens with an establishing shot on the city of Metropolis. We see the Daily Planet and a Superman flyby - perhaps a common sight in this world. The implication being, this is a film about an established Superman, not an origin story per se.

Superman drops in on Lois like he so often does. There's attraction and chemistry, and a budding relationship. Great stuff right from the get go.

The film reviews the origin story through Clark's dreams in montage. We see the destruction of Krypton, baby Kal-El's sojourn through space, his crash landing in Smallville and subsequent discovery by the Kents. The flashback sequence reminds viewers about the basic details of Superman's origin without needing to spend half of the film retelling what *most* people are already familiar with.

We see Superman in the FOS with associated Donner-esque crystal technology as well as Superman's interactions with his father. There are quick reminders of his family and childhood friends, his dual persona, and iconic phone booth and shirt-ripping scenes.

The first half of the trailer - perhaps like the proposed film itself - re-introduces Superman to the world. This is who he is, where he's from, why he's here, what he does, who he loves, etc. etc. Basically: he's an established fixture of society, loved for who he is, and HAPPY with himself and the life he's chosen.

Then Superman's world is ROCKED when alien nemeses show up on Earth. He alone is the only one who can defend humanity from the superhuman conquerors Darkseid, Zod and Parasite, as well as his greatest mortal enemy, Lex Luthor. Let the battle for Earth begin.

There's just so much to love there. Welling and the SV cast goes w/o saying, but the trailer does more than that: it gives us an actual STORY to a proposed Superman film. I've seen professional film trailers that can't even get that right. You watch those trailers and think, well in'dat 'pecial. A bunch of pretty pictures that look cool, but are otherwise sewn together in meaningless ways. Sometimes that approach works if the film being advertised doesn't have much of a plot beyond the film's title. "Snakes on a Plane," anybody? LOL Anyhoo, I like what Wormy has proposed:

SUPERMAN REBORN
The story opens with an establishing shot on the city of Metropolis. We see the Daily Planet and a Superman flyby - perhaps a common sight in this world. The implication being, this is a film about an established Superman, not an origin story per se.

Superman drops in on Lois like he so often does. There's attraction and chemistry, and a budding relationship. Great stuff right from the get go.

The film reviews the origin story through Clark's dreams in montage. We see the destruction of Krypton, baby Kal-El's sojourn through space, his crash landing in Smallville and subsequent discovery by the Kents. Yeah I had the plot even detailed with references to Zod getting his body back. I even made a Kandor (last city of Krypton) shot but didn't add it in. In the next week or so I'll post gifs of shots that didn't make it.

Needless to say I was a tad disappointed with SR and decided to make my own trailer sans anything in SR plus since the summer I rented all Smallville seasons on DVD and decided to just use THAT cast.
I was having Supervillain withdrawls and was so tired of complaining I decided to get it out of my system by having a bit of Manip fun.

Oh my God, Wormy, that was one of the coolest fan trailers I've seen. I do think the first portion of it (up until the montage section that starts with Clark throwing Lex) could be tightened a little bit, maybe. It would best benefit from more of a throughline or thread, maybe audio/dialogue, to make it less of just a montage of images and more of a cohesive first half.

Bottom line, though, AWESOME use of found footage, and even more awesome alteration of it. Some of those shots of Welling in Reeve's suit are fantastic, especially the one of him turning away from camera at Lois' apartment. Oh, and Zod looks amazing.

I think a mix of the 2 outfits would be great. Something in the middle in terms of color brightness, texture and S emblem size., :)

Thanks for feedback. I agree, The montage section was the last thing I workerd on and I was getting a little burned out looking for the right music scenes etc to make it a better bridge between the opening and end. I had planned on dropping in some audio voiceovers too but just felt it was time to finish because other priorities started surfacing. I still need to learn the real editing software so I can make more serious professional looking ones like Robocop vs Neo.

It certainly helps that we've only a tiny youtube screen to fill with our homemade FX and not a huge theatre screen.
And not to compare my manip to the real thing but yeah over the last 20 years I've fantasised about how kick a$$ a superman movie could be given an air tight story/script and hi octane superfights and effects. We've only our imagination to limit us. I don't care what people say, Superman IS cool. I've always looked at him as a moral rightous Bad A$$. As great as Reeve was, his Superman I felt was always a tad too nice. In the movie he would yell "Stop, The People!" but in the comics he'd just act in a spit second, save the people and unload a can of A$$ whippen on the fools who threatned his earth people. I just finished watching the very last episode of JLU and my god it's got some great action pieces especially Darkseid vs Superman in downtown Metropolis. Such an action scene could EASILY be made live action.
And using Champian City (from Mystery Men) as metropolis (at the beginning of the manip)is something I've wanted to do since I saw that movie in the theatre. It's a great looking city, so futuristic yet set in todays world. The City of Tommorrow. Metropolis looked plane to me in SR. It doesn't have to be ultra stylised but at least be unique rather than a misc New York.

lois: Honestly, I do like this face shot better, but the exposed near-boob looks gratuitous next to Superman. Again, just personal opinion. I also think she should be tucked in a little further behind Supes. the composition as it is seems off.

This is a good concept, but since you asked for constructive criticism, you got it (and I apologize in advance if I come off as harsh)...

The Suit: Reminds me too much of the SR suit - clean up the lines on the suit and change the belt. I've always felt that when and if Tom dons the blue tights on the show, his suit should be unique to him, without any traces of previous actors' outfits.

The Hair: I'd like a more natural-looking style on him - again, the hair looks like it was taken off an SR photo and flipped into the current look.

The Body Type: Fine as it is.

The Lois/Erica Design: Clean up the edges around her (and around Tom, too) a bit - they look like they've been cut and pasted. And is there any chance you could flip the cape so that the :supes: can be seen better?

Just my two cents...enjoy.

This is a good concept, but since you asked for constructive criticism, you got it (and I apologize in advance if I come off as harsh)...

The Suit: Reminds me too much of the SR suit - clean up the lines on the suit and change the belt. I've always felt that when and ifTom dons the blue tights on the show, his suit should be unique to him, without any traces of previous actors' outfits.
yeah, its based from the SR suit, but it needs a unique look for Tom, it seems everyone wants the seams gone, so they will be, im a people pleaser:oldrazz:

The Hair: I'd like a more natural-looking style on him - again, the hair looks like it was taken off an SR photo and flipped into the current look.
not sure about this, i really like the look of his face and hair, the SR look could also be because of the thinner look he has right now, if i broaden him it could solve this...

The Body Type: Fine as it is.

The Lois/Erica Design: Clean up the edges around her (and around Tom, too) a bit - they look like they've been cut and pasted.

i think that is a GREAT idea, not only will it reveal the \S/ but it will cover her a little more, and if i position her behind clark more, it will help you understand the context better, GREAT idea!:woot:

i haven't tried anything with any of the cast except tom, so i thought i would go for a classic moment with a modern day spin, still needs some work, but its a start...i need to make clark a little wider and lois' hair needs to be more frayed at the ends, im also willing to change the actual erica durance picture if someone post a better one for me to use ( i feel like she looks more like j-lo in that pic )
