Dr. Doom is the second greates scorcere and second smartest person on this planet. I think he's got what it takes to beat Apocalypse. if not, he'd definitely make it interesting.

Apocalypse.

The Secret Wars was so long ago but if I recall correctly didn't the Beyonder allow Doom to take his power on purpose as part of the game? If this is the case then Doom using his smarts in attaining Beyonder's power means nothing. Doom is a genius but Apocalypse is way beyond him excuse the pun.

Suleman

Okay, so Doom has nice tech. Big deal, old Ape-lips has alien tech far beyond that. And his own powers, which make him a multi-teambuster.

Apocalypse.

Heh, with prep time this one is very close but in terms of genuis, Apocalypse has lived since Acient Egypt and he's created everything from a mutant killing virus to a living ship, prep time he can do just as much damage as Doom and he's more malleable and able to change with the attack.

I am not so sure now, I forgot that Doom is basically second or maybe third in teh mystic arts on Earth. So....I change my vote, Doom, even in a head's up meeting with no prep time.

The ship was indeed created by the celestials. And yes the Beyonder let Doom take his power and Deadhead Doom was too arrogant and stupid to realize that he was being toyed with. While I admit that I have been out of touch since my local comic shop closed a while back, as of the last time I was aware Doom was anything but a mystic master. He was apprentice level if that. When he entered the contest set up by the Vishanti it was to watch the masters in action. In order to stay in the contest he had to cheat using his armors computers to anticipate the attacks.

TheCorpulent1
02-17-2006, 06:08 PM
Did he still perform well? You can't really hold it against Doom if he cheats but still gets results. Doom's all about cheating.

Did he still perform well? You can't really hold it against Doom if he cheats but still gets results. Doom's all about cheating. Yeah, he was the last except for Strange. He was in awe of Strange though. that Still does not make him number 2. That place probably goes to Mr, Jip. Dakimh and Jennifer Kale probably rate above Doom and probably Margali Szardos.

If his armor allows him to take out the other magicians, I'd say he's #2 in all the ways that count.

Silicon Surfer
02-18-2006, 02:31 AM
If his armor allows him to take out the other magicians, I'd say he's #2 in all the ways that count. A simple spell could take Doom to a magical dimension where his armor would not work. Interdimensional teleportation is the easiest. There against a more powerful and knowledgeable opponent he is in it deep. If you're going to take on a sorceror there is no substitute for magical skill. And Dooms armor was disabled except for the computers.

Here are the matchups broken down:

Cyclops vs. Quicksilver
Psylocke vs. Havok
Rogue vs. Polaris
Gambit vs. Strong Guy
Beast vs. Multiple Man
Wolverine vs. Wolvesbane

Darth Wolverine

Cyclops vs Quicksilver
Pietro is fast, but not invulnerable. As he's running towards his opponent, Scott sweeps the room with his beam, knocking Pietro off course and blasting him off his feet. A second, more accurate blast to the speedster's head finishes the battle.
Victor: Cyclops!
http://jerome.galica.free.fr/marvel/X-Men/original/Blanchett_Cyclopslight.gif

Psylocke vs Havok
Alex attempts to blast Betsy with his plasma beams, but she dodges and uses her telekinesis to paralyse him until she completes her move with a roundhouse kick to the jaw.
Victor: Psylocke!
http://jerome.galica.free.fr/marvel/X-Men/2nd%20team/psylocke/JR-BetsyCollection13.gif

Rogue vs Polaris
Poor ol' Lorna has no chance here. Rogue's superior speed means that she can swoop in behind her opponent and either drain her or pummel her with her fists. Whichever you prefer.
Victor: Rogue!
http://jerome.galica.free.fr/marvel/X-Men/2nd%20team/rogue/malicia5dv.gif

Gambit vs Strong Guy
This is a tough one, but again, Remy's speed gives him an advantage. He blinds Guido with explosions, and then uses his staff to propel him into a wall. That dazes him, and allows Remy to charge the wall, which promptly explodes and buries an exhausted Guido.
Victor: Gambit!
http://jerome.galica.free.fr/marvel/X-Men/2nd%20team/gambit/Gambit21no.GIF

Beast vs Multiple Man
This would be a loooong fight with Beast punding his way through duplicates if not for his genius-level intellect. He uses one of his many devices ( a scanner or something) to identify which is the real Jamie, and K.O.s him swiftly. Also remember that Jamie can feel any blows his duplicates take, which means he can't keep a barrage up for too long anyway.
Victor: Beast!
http://jerome.galica.free.fr/marvel/X-Men/original/gbbeast1.gif

Wolverine and Jubilee vs Wolfsbane
I know you didn't put Jubilee in, but I thought I might as well include the whole team. This is overkill, although Jubilee's presence does mean the fight ends quicker. She blinds Rahne before she can run, and leaves Wolverine to finish her off.
Victor: Wolverine and Jubilee!
http://jerome.galica.free.fr/marvel/X-Men/2nd%20team/wolverine/ctbp_quitely_wolverine.gifhttp://jerome.galica.free.fr/marvel/X-Men/divers/Blanchett_jubileesparks.gif

Psylocke is destroyed by Havok

Rogue destroys Polaris

Gambit is destroyed by Strong Guy (Although I love Gambit:(, Strong Guy can absorb whatever Gambit can throw)

Beast is destroyed by Multiple Man (Strength in numbers)

Wolverine destroys, mauls, eats, and kills Wolvesbane

So it's a three-to-three tie!

Mr. Fantastic vs Spider-Man: Spider-Man
Thing vs Hulk: Hulk, though it would be a good fight
Human Torch vs Wolverine: I don't know on this one
Invisible Woman vs Ghost Rider: Ghost Rider

Not exactly the way I'd have matched them up.

WOlvie and GR would have switched targets. Wolvie would be able to track her when she goes invisible, and anything she hits him with heals quick.

GR and Johnny can go at it for a while, but remember that GR can't be hurt by fire, and his fire makes people depressed.

all in all the New Fantastic four, even though I don't really believe they would work as a team.

Thinking strategically.

if I was on the FF's side....

Torch we know can't take on spidey (He can be smothered). So we pit him against Sue, she's got the powers to take him on. his Spidersense doesn't always provide the best warnings so her invisiblity is still a benifit.

I'd send the Torch against the Hulk, but keep Johnny from getting too close. just have him annoy Hulk and lead him away from the rest so that he can't be a bother. eventually the Hulk will run out of steam (Especially if Johnny plays it from a distance like I want) with minimal damage to Torch.

Mr. Fantastic can take on Wolverine, quickly wrapping him up and binding him tight. those adamantium claws are useless unless they can cut, and reed stretchs to well.

Ben going against the Ghost Rider is a good bed as he doesn't ahve anything too horrible in his past. Ben has been a good guy and should be able to go mano a mano with GR.

Spiderman vs Mr Fantastic
A good matchup, without prep-time Reed will have to rely on his abilities to beat SM. SM on the other hand has faced tougher opponent, some similiar to Reed's elasticity. I think it will be a good matchup but SM will endure.
WINNER: Spider-Man

Hulk vs Thing
Another good matchup, one that has happened in the past. It won't be a cake walk for Hulk, but in the end I think he will take this one. However, Thing's no push over so I will give hima vote
WINNER: Thing

Wolverine vs Human Torch
I think this matchup was a good one. Johnny has a couple things going for him. His ability to fly and his range of attack. Johnny just has to keep in the air away from close contact wil Wolves. If he does get up close, it's game over. But Johnny knows the score and a full flame blast should burn up Wolves pretty badly. He would recover but it will take time.
WINNER Human Torch

Ghost Rider vs Invisible Woman
Another good matchup, The Pennance stare would probably not affect IW and the hellfire could be blocked by her psionic shielding. So it would probably come down to hand 2 hand combat which she would lose.
WINNER Ghost Rider

Spiderman 6 Mr Fantastic 1
Hulk 5 Thing 1
Wolves 4 Human Torch 3
Ghost Rider 6 Invisible Woman 1

As a team, Fantastic Four would clean house. They would just work too well against these loners.....

Yeah, I had a wedding to go to over the weekend so I haven't been on much. I'll give my breakdown anyway.

Cyclops vs. Quicksilver:
Quicksilver can move fast enough that people don't even see him, they just feel a strong gust of wind as he runs by. If Cyclops can't see him, he can't hit him. (He can't just shoot a blast in all directions, given that he's surrounded by his own teammates. Yeah, he's really good at targeting and using deflections, but he'd still need to know what he's trying to hit.

Also, Quicksilver has beaten Cyclops by speed blitzing him before, in a battle from around this time period. (Infinity Crusade #5). Just zoomed in and hit Cyclops with a few dozen super-strong punches (Quicksilver also has some super-strength) before Scott could react.

Winner: Quicksilver

Psylocke vs. Havok:
Psylocke's primary attack from this time period was to stick her psychic knife in the back of someone's head, or hit them with martial arts moves. These short range attacks wouldn't do much good against someone with a long-range plasma blast -- she just wouldn't be able to get close enough. Havok can use a wide blast that wouldn't be easily dodged, and Psylocke had (at that time) no telekinesis with which to deflect it. As far as trying to use a long range psychic attack, all of the veteran X-Men (of which Havok was one) have at least some telepathic resistance from their training with Xavier, and he only needs to resist long enough to get off one shot.

The only way I could see Psylocke winning is if the battle took place somewhere with lots of obstructions (like a forest), so she could use her stealth to sneak up behind Havok and take him out. But given that it's a six-on-six battle, not one-on-one, it probably takes place in an open area with both teams knowing the other one is there.

Winner: Havok

Rogue vs. Polaris:
Polaris has gotten stronger since then (before losing her powers), thanks to training with Magneto in Genosha. But even earlier than her X-Factor days, she had fought Rogue and done quite well. When Polaris was possessed by Malice, she fought Rogue, and tangled her up in girders from a construction site. (She made them move so fast that Rogue couldn't outrun them, and then strengthened the metal so she couldn't break it.) Rogue was trapped until Dazzler cut her free.

At any rate, this fight might come down to how much metal was available in the surrounding area. But at some point during her tenure with X-Factor, Polaris took to wearing a costume made of metal, which she could use as a weapon. At any rate, I'm betting she could scrounge up enough metal to at least keep Rogue occupied. All Polaris has to do to hold her off his keep her out of arms length, since Rogue uses punches and touch-attacks.

Winner: Stalemate

Gambit vs. Strong Guy:
Gambit charges objects with kinetic energy and explodes them. Guido absorbs kinetic energy and turns it into strength. So anything Gambit hit him with would literally just make him stronger. And one super strong punch from Guido is all it would take to put Remy down. That said, Gambit is a lot faster and more agile, so he could probably dodge Strong Guy's punches all day.

Winner: Stalemate

Beast vs. Multiple Man:
These days, Jamie Madrox would probably kick Beast's ass. Why? Because he's been sending his duplicates all over the world to learn knew skills, including training in Kung Fu with the Shaolin monks. Fighting a few dozen Shaolin-trained Kung Fu artists is a hell of a lot tougher than just fighting a few dozen ordinary guys, which is basically what Jamie's dupes were in his X-Factor days.

That said, even back then Jamie had a couple of abilities that a lot of people forget about. First, when he got hit he'd absorb the kinetic energy and channel it into making another dupe, so until Jamie reached his maximum (something like 50), punches and kicks wouldn't do much against him. Second, hit could distribute injuries among his duplicates, so if one dupe gets hurt bad, he can change it so that all of them are hurt just a little.

So basically, this means Beast would be fighting a few dozen people with significant resistance to injury. Even with his super strength, he'd probably be overwhelmed pretty quickly. His best bet would be to just keep leaping around and trying not to let too many of them near him at once. But given Beast's agility, he could probably do this for quite some time.

Winner: Stalemate

Wolverine vs. Wolvesbane
No contest, here. Wolverine can take more damage, and can dish more out. Plus, he has an enormous edge in experience and training.

Winner: Wolverine

OK, so that's 2-1 X-Factor, with three stalemates (most of which I'd say are leaning a bit towards X-Factor). But what would happen then?

Here's how I see it going down:
Having taken Psylocke out quick, Havok turns to help out his girlfriend (Polaris). He nails Rogue with a plasma blast while Polaris holds her in place. Even with Rogue's near-invulnerability, Havok's plasma blasts should be powerful enough to knock her out.

Beast realizes he's not having much luck with Madrox, and goes after Havok instead, leaping in and attacking him from above. Focused on Rogue, Havok doesn't see Beast coming until it's too late, and is knocked unconscious.

Quicksilver, having defeated Cyclops in high-speed, zooms in to help his team leader. He tosses Beast into a dogpile of Multiple Men before Hank can react. He then runs over and beats snot out of Gambit (who was still in combat with Strong Guy.) Remy is fast for a human, but to Quicksilver's accelerated senses he'd be moving in slow motion.

Wolverine tries to cut Beast out of Madrox's pile-on. His claws do enough damage that even after re-distributing it Jamie is in pretty bad shape. But by the time Logan gets to Beast, Hank is already out cold.

Guido goes to help his buddy, but he takes a nasty slash from Wolverine.

But Wolverine doesn't fair so well against Polaris. The man with a metal skeleton is basically at the mercy of the Mistress of Magnetism. (I know he's had some success against Magneto, but generally by taking him by surprise or in situations where his teammates help keep Magnus occupied.) Lorna magnetically lifts Logan into the air and slams him into the ground until he blacks out.

Final Result: X-Factor win in a close one

But either of these teams would get trounced by the Gold Team -- Jean and Storm (not to mention Iceman, Colossus, Bishop, and Archangel)? Game over.

Mr. Fantastic vs Spider-Man:
Spidey can anticipate and dodge most of Reed's attacks, but Reed can attack from many directions at once, which could pose problems for Pete. I could see Reed managing to tangle Spidey up, like Doc Ock sometimes does. Plus, Reed can absorb the impact of Spidey's punches.

On the other hand, Spidey could give Reed a face full of webbing, leaving him fighting blind. But Reed is so smart he might be able to figure out a way around this. (I know Parker's a smart guy too, but Reed could still out-think him.)

Outcome: Mr. Fantastic wins a tough one, possibly by smothering Spidey.

Thing vs Hulk:
It might take a while, but in the end Hulk is stronger and more durable.

Outcome: Hulk Smash!

Human Torch vs Wolverine:
Johnny can stay well out of Logan's reach by flying, or simply intensify the flames around himself so that Wolverine can't get near without burning the flesh off his own bones. Since Logan's only attacks are short-range, he'd be out of luck. Eventually, Johnny burns Logan bad enough that even his healing factor will take a while to catch up.

Outcome: Human Torch flames on!

Invisible Woman vs Ghost Rider:
Ghost Rider is strong, pretty much indestructible, and has lots of different weapons and attacks.

But Sue's forcefields have taken a stronger pummeling than he can dish out.

Outcome: Invinisible Woman contains him, bike, chain, hellfire and all.

Final Tally: 3-1 for the original FF, but they'd still have a hell of a time beating the Hulk.

Mister Fantastic VS Spider-man - Mister Fantastic
Thing VS Hulk - Hulk
Human Torch VS Wolverine - Human Torch
Invisible Girl VS Ghost Rider - Invisible Girl

All in all, I think the original FF's leadership, and proven teamwork, would give them the edge in this fight.

Although, 14 - 9 is the final tally for the NEW FANTASTIC FOUR!

Doctor Strange. Xavier may be a stronger telepath, but Strange has telepathy and a whole lot more. Plus, he routinely takes on cosmic beings who could eat Xavier for breakfast. And as Ahura points out, there's no reason to assume Xavier would get the drop on him, as opposed to the other way around. (Plus, Strange has sometimes been shown to have automatic shields -- although I'm not sure if these block telepathic attacks)

Sure he could put on a great show but when it comes down to it, Puma should put a severe beating on the man with the fishbowl head. I'm sure there are some people who will say "Well being a stuntman has trained him in many forms of martial arts." So he's a trained fight choreographer, that doesn't make him a great fighter. Keanu Reeves has been trained to fight for his movies but does that mean he's ready for serious martial arts competitions? I think not. :venom:

Could I suggest, if it hasn't been done, a Beast vs. Sasquatch battle?

Beast would be totally destroyed. :(

Yeah, Corp is right about this one...I think Beast would get beat pretty easily

Keep on throwing suggestions out whenever you feel like it though :)

How about Speedball vs Mister Fantastic?

Vanguard07

How about speedball vs quicksilver
or hyperion vs gladiator?

Hyperion vs Gladiator was done some time ago by Marvel. Gladiator broke Hyperions neck without much effort. If you want to match Sasquatch up in a battle of the hairballs, how about the Brute.

How about a team-up battle? Like Thor and the Silver Surfer vs. Thanos and the Magus or something?

How about a team-up battle? Like Thor and the Silver Surfer vs. Thanos and the Magus or something? Good Idea. Another possibility would be Adam Warlock and Kismet vs Thanos and Nebula

Ooh, how about the baddest-ass badasses of martial arts? Mantis and Libra vs. Karnak and Gamora!

Who is the Brute?!

He's the Mutant X version of Beast. Stronger, tougher, and amphibious, but dumb as a post.

I'm voting for Thanos and Loki. Even without the gauntlet Thanos is still very powerful and intelligent while Loki can come up with some good socery to even up the fight.
